It is an ancient temple in Bhopal. It's made of rocks. Its architecture looks marvelous . Bhojpur temple is round 25 km from the city Bhopal. The rocks structure is really nice and there's is a picnic spot here . Visit this temple during winter season. In summer season the rocks become so hot, it's become so difficult to walk on hot rocks.

Bhojeshwara Temple - The construction of the temple is believed to be initiated by Raja Bhoj during 11th century and for some reasons remained incomplete. The shivalingam is perhaps the largest in india measuring almost 7.5 feet in height and 17.8 feet in circumference. This is set on a square platform giving it an imposing look.

Amazing place for visit, it's connected with the the history of king Raja bhoj. The Bhojeshwar Temple is an incomplete Hindu temple in Bhojpur village of Madhya Pradesh, India. Dedicated to Shiva, it houses a 7.5 feet high lingam in its sanctum. The temple's construction is believed to have started in the 11th century, during the reign of the Paramara king Bhoja. When I go to this place I just face transport problem, because no direct vechile for go to bhojpur temple. Because it's located at the village area....

Bhojpur is famous for the incomplete Bhojeśvar temple dedicated to Shiva. The site is under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India as a monument of national importance. The temple houses one of the largest liṅga-s in India, 5.5 m (18 ft) tall and 2.3 m (7.5 ft) in circumference. It is crafted out a single rock.[6] The liṅga was repaired by the Archaeological Survey of India who also added a roof over the top to prevent weather damage. The attribution of the temple to Bhoja is based on the testimony of Merutuṅga, who reports in the Prabandhacintāmaṇi that Bhoja bestowed on the poet Māgha "all the merit of the new Bhojasvāmin temple that he was about to build himself", and then "set out for the country of Mālava".[7] The style of the sculpture on the building confirms an early to mid-eleventh-century date for the structure. The building as it stands consists of the inner cella or garbhagṛha, supported by massive pillars, surmounted with an elegant corbelled dome. The outer walls and superstructure of the temple were never built, but unfinished parts lie nearby. Quarries and rock drawingsEdit Architectural fragments in one of the quarries at Bhojpur The temple at Bhojpur is unique in being left unfinished, with a series of large architectural parts still located in the quarries where the stones were cut and fashioned. In addition, there are a significant number of architectural drawings engraved on the flat surfaces of the quarry showing mouldings, pillars, and temple plans.[8] Also of note is the large earthen ramp behind the temple which shows how medieval craftsmen raised the large blocks of stone into position. The drawings and architectural parts have been subject to in-depth study and with a book on the subject published by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts. [9] Jain templesEdit Idols at the unfinished Jain Temple, Bhojpur Bhojpur also has an unfinished Jain temple containing a 6-meter-tall statue of Bhagwan Shantinath and two statues of Bhagwan Parshvanath (left) and Bhagwan Suparshvanatha (right). On the base of the central images of Lord Shatinath there is an inscription mentioning king Bhoja, the only epigraphic evidence connecting Bhoja to the site.[10] The Suparshanath image on left has an inscription date samvat 1157 which mentions Naravarman, the nephew of king Bhoja, and mentions that the two smaller idols were installed by the grandson of Nemichandra of Vemaka community, who had installed the main image in the middle[11]The same temple complex hosts shrine for Ācārya Manatunga who wrote Bhaktamara Stotra. Main Temple & IdolEdit This huge temple was established in year 1100 AD. The miraculous idol of principal deity Bhagwan Shantinath in standing posture (22½ feet in height) is installed in the huge sanctum of this temple. On the both sides of this idol, 2 standing beautiful idols of Bhagwan Parshvanath & Suparshvanath (7th Teerthankar) 8 feet in height each are installed. Near the feet of Bhagwan Shantinath, artistic whisk bearers are carved on both sides. Cave of PārvatīEdit Immediately opposite the temple, on the west side of the gorge facing the Betwā, is a rock-shelter or cave, now occupied by religious mendicants. Popularly known as Pārvatī's Cave, the cave contains a number of sculptures and architectural fragments dating to the eleventh century.

Bhojeshwar Mahadev Temple, Bhojpur. Friends, if you are planning to visit Bhopal, then my high suggestion is to visit Bhojeshwar Mahadev Temple, Bhojpur once, because this temple is not a temple or lifetime will be your experience because you will be amazed to see this temple. Or the temple is very beautiful and the Shivling is very big and was built by King Bhoj. According to me, this temple will be the best temple of Lord Shankar in the whole of India because I had never seen such a temple, must visit this place once. Here you will not have to take any ticket, there is a very little crowd and very few people according to me or know about the temple and this temple has come at a distance of 25 km from Bhopal. So if you go to this temple in your car, because the transportation facility is also very less here. And here you will see many monkeys and this temple is located in a very quiet place. Om namah Shivay If you liked this review, then definitely follow us on Google Maps.

Bhojeshwar temple is located 30 km from Bhopal... we visited the temple recently via Ashapuri route after visiting Bhimbetka rock shelters. There is no road at all for about 5 km from Ashapuri to Bhojpur... because of road works... There's no entry fee for visiting temple, but for parking the shop keepers demand money based on the crowd.. The temple is famous because of the huge statue of shivling in the sanctum. If you visit the temple after monsoon, you can enjoy the nature. The temple is open from 6 am to 7 pm and no dress code... the ideal time is morning or evening if you go in the noon it may be sunny.... You can spend 1 to 2 hours here ..beautiful Betwa river....ideal place to visit with family for short picnic.... beware of dogs and monkeys...

Travel by train to bhopal / Rani kamlapati if it is in your train route as I was traveling from Mumbai. Bus no:116 will take you banrasiya (near bhojpur) 30₹ -32₹ fare ( Ask at the station which side bus comes for bhojpur) Banrasiya to bhojpur 7km 20 ₹per person sharing auto goes as we were 5 we occupied the auto 😂as whole max 30₹ per person For stay: dharmshala near Jain temple or if you want a private stay you can go with that directly to the hotel and bargain don't follow anyone. We visited on 29th July (during monsoon/ sharavan) fortunately there was no rain but cloudy sky and when on 28th July we arrived we were astonished by the temple view we thought no going in as not bathed and were leaving after 20min ( as plan was to stay in night and bath and come back)but Shiva wanted us to see him without any bounding of laws and rituals and a 10min rain shower started when we were leaving the only place to hide was inside the temple under the lingam 😊 . You can walk 10min to dharm shala inside Jain temple surrounding and stay at a cheaper price there as we got it for 500 ₹1night only we were 5 people. In the morning I got up early and did meditation inside the Jain mandir which is also an historical site just next to dharmshala. Now well dressed in dhoti as planned, the bhojeshwar Mahadev temple arti was going(blessed ☺️) my plan was to meditate do guru Pooja ( performed by Sadhguru audio) just outside the temple again grace of God when I started the arti which was ended inside they came outside and started the drum playing aarti from outside literally got goosebumps while I was in dhyanm and ended at same point. Can't describe the feelings of energy and the weather was cool and pleasant. Next to dharmshala there is a hotel too the person who is really friendly at the hotel offers us food even late at night and has his shop near the temple too. We left for ujjain then the same travel pattern auto>bus116>Bhopal station> ujjain intercity train

Don't miss it. Majestic temple. One has to rely completely on local transport to reach there. It is a bit far from the city. We have visited during summer and the stones were hot, but you can bear everything to drop in this less frequented spot. There isnt much other than Shivalinga, still go go go

I loved this place very much. It was buult in 11th century and still strong enough. Looks amazing at present. There is no entry fee or charges. Parking charges may be applicable. It's around 25 km away from bhopal city but you can find food stall here and there. Drinking water is available. There is a park downside of temple. You can sit there and enjoy. Many children celebrate their birthday over there. Overall good experience, worth going over there.

Bhojpur Temple in Bhopal is a marvel of ancient architecture, dating back to the 11th century. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is renowned for its colossal lingam, carved out of a single rock, reaching a height of 7.5 feet. The intricate carvings on the temple walls depict scenes from Hindu mythology and showcase the exceptional craftsmanship of that era. The precision and attention to detail in the sculptures make it a captivating experience for history enthusiasts. The temple's location adds to its charm, situated on the banks of the Betwa River, providing a picturesque backdrop for visitors. The serene ambiance and lack of crowds contribute to a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere. While exploring Bhojpur, don't miss the nearby Bhojeshwar Temple, which is another architectural gem. The surrounding landscape, with lush greenery and the flowing Betwa River, enhances the overall experience, making it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. In summary, Bhojpur Temple offers a blend of history, spirituality, and natural beauty, making it a worthwhile destination for those seeking a tranquil and culturally rich experience.

Highest Shivalingam. However, crowded with devotees. No covid protocols followed. Be careful when you visit. Take proper precautions. Do not forget to also spend a few minutes on the ancient dam, you will drive over it without realising that the road passes over an ancient dam. There are boards indicating it.

Enjoyed the trip to Bhojpur temple. Easily accessible from Bhopal. We hired a can who took 800 rs for 3 hr trip. There were lots of langur ( monkey) around temple. Mostly silent and only approaxgung devotees for snatching thier packets and bags ( looking for food) . Enjoyed thier activities and jumps around while in temple premisis. We visited temple in summee around 5:30 pm. Please note since floor is made of stone it gets quite hot to walk, fortunatly thwre is rubber carpet for escape. Plz note temple will close by 7PM. Including the park around. Need to mention that temple premises was clean including the park. Light refreshments are available outside temple in cafes.

(Translated by Google) Bhojeshwar Temple is a temple built in a village called Bhojpur, about 30 km from Bhopal, capital of Madhya Pradesh. It is also called Bhojpur temple. The temple is situated on a hill between the Vindhya ranges on the banks of the Betwa River. The temple was built and its Shivling was established by the famous Parmar king Bhoja of Dhar (10 - 1053 AD). It is also called Bhojpur Temple or Bhojeshwar Temple after his name, although according to some legends the original temple of this place is believed to have been established by the Pandavas. It is also known as "Somnath of North India". Bhojeshwar Temple Religion Information: Religion Hindu Religious Body Indian Archaeological Survey Department, Location Information, Location Bhojpur, Jilarayesin, India The inscriptions here give a knowledge of the architecture of the 11th century Hindu temple construction and it is known that the dome was used even before the advent of Islam in India. The large work plan of this imperfect temple has been engraved on the nearby stone rocks. According to these map diagrams, there was a plan to build a large temple complex in which many other temples were also to be built. After its successful completion, this temple complex would have been one of the largest temple complexes in India. The temple complex has been marked as a monument of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of India and has made a successful effort to revive it by renovating it. According to the inscription of the Archaeological Department located outside the temple, the Shiva lingam of this temple is the tallest and largest Shivalinga in the temples of India. The entrance of this temple is also the largest among the doors of any Hindu building. An archaeological museum dedicated to this temple is also located near the temple. The Bhojpur festival is organized every year by the state government on the occasion of Shivaratri. History Legendary votes According to this opinion, to worship Lord Shiva by Mother Kunti, the Pandavas resolved to complete the construction of this temple in one night which could not be completed. Thus this temple is incomplete till today. [1] [2] Historical opinion According to this belief, it is believed that the temple was built by the great patron of art, architecture and learning in the 11th century by Bhojdev, the Parmar dynasty king of central India. [1] [3] [4] [5] According to the traditions and beliefs Bhojpur and now a dam was also constructed. [6] The construction of the temple was never completed, so there is a lack of a foundation stone or a stone marking the opening / construction. Even then the name here is Bhojpur which is associated with the name of Raja Bhoj. [7] According to some beliefs, this temple was to be built in one night but its roofing was done in the morning before completion. Work was incomplete [1] The recognition of the construction by Raja Bhoja is also supported by the artifacts of the site, whose carbon age-calculation ensures them to be only of the 11th century. [6] In a nearby Jain temple of Bhojpur, which has the identity of those craftsmen, Whose are built on this Shiva temple; The construction date of 1035 AD is written on them. Apart from many literary works, historical evidence here also confirms the rule of King Bhoja in the year 1035 AD. Modas Tamra Patra (10-11-11 AD) issued by Raja Bhoj, Chintamani Saranika (1055 AD 9) composed by his poet Dasabal are helpful for this confirmation. There used to be three dams and one lake in the adjacent area of this temple. Only such a powerful king could build such a large lake and three big barriers. All these evidences appear in favor of the temple being built by King Bhoja. Archaeologist Prokirit Mankodi dates the construction period of this temple to the latter half of the reign of King Bhoja, around the middle of the 11th century. [8] 4 Outside the temple Temple notice board, in which important facts about the temple are written. Inscriptions written by later Parmar rulers in the Udaipur Commendation contain such references as: phrases like those filled with temples, and dedicated to facts related to Shiva. The description of Kedareshwar, Rameshwar, Somnath, Kalabhairava and Rudra is also found in these. According to the proverbs and traditions, he also built a Saraswati temple. Bhojeswar temple is a magnificent temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The lingam which is housed inside the temple is very high. This temple construction is believed to have started during the time of Raja Bhoj, who founded the city of Bhopal also. But the construction was stopped due to unknown reasons. Historians speculation is that the construction stopped due to natural disaster or war or lack of availability of resources. There is another story that the temple was planned to construct in one day and after a days work the temple work was stopped. There are many peculiarities for the construction of this temple. There is no window for the walls of the temple. There are balconies which are constructed for ornamental purpose. Various carvings in stone can be found on the walls of the temple. Apsaras and ganas are featured in the walls of the temple. There was no roof for the structure when it was handed over to ASI. ASI provided a roof for the temple for protecting it from the natural degradation. This temple has another peculiar nature compared to other temples. The omission of mandapa and rectilinear roof instead of curved one are some of them. Nearby rock surfaces have architectural plans explaining the how the temple would have been looked when the construction was completed.
