Tourists have stopped coming to areas that are too expensive to stay. Bali is an amazing place but since the invasion it is a lot more expensive. My advice would be to avoid Canggu and Ubud like the plague and stick to less touristy areas like Nusa Dua, or Sanur for example, Unless the Indonesian government stop the invasion then unfortunately and very sadly this island paradise will be ruined forever. If you're Australian then there aren't a whole heap of better options, but if your from the States or Europe then there are plenty of "Russian" free options out there... Probably anywhere else because there all in Bali. Hopefully the new president will take a tough stance and kick them all out... !!

As logistics ... the only things i can add are : use cash money (their currency), for travels it is better to rent car with driver or scooter. Use the time well. Plan before leaving, what you want to visit. It looks small, but it is not. Travel times can be long.
