This market is intense! So many sights, sounds, smells, colors! Haggle is the word of the day! You will be overcharged as a foreigner most likely so if you're not experienced in haggling, get a tour guide to go with you. They sell literally EVERYTHING there! Everyone will want you to buy from them, even if you just bought something from the stall next door and they all have similar things. It's a great experience to have. We were warned to mind our belongings, carry your bags/money in front of you and be aware of pickpockets. I recommend you do it at least once! Great experience. @geckoflextours on IG was our guide and chief haggler through the market.

(Translated by Google) Many stalls with almost the same types of items, such as bracelets, dresses, shawls, bags, figurines and masks. Of course you are literally approached by every market stall / market stall to come and have a look at her or his stall. Although everyone wants to see you in their booth, a friendly "no" is usually sufficient. My advice is to remain friendly yourself. They are and will always be lovely people who do their work for their bread. If you find something interesting, it is immediately offered for a much too high price. Count on it that you will certainly get everything for at least half or less. It is a game of negotiation. They also assume that you are going to negotiate. You will see here how men make their wood carvings: from cutting, sanding to painting. There is something for everyone here with souvenirs. Not only new, but also older masks can be found here.

Probably what you’d expect from a craft market in the tourist district - lots of handmade items from wood, material etc and also mass produced products like bracelets/ jewellery, but a good and easy place to get some souvenirs to take home. You will get hassled by every vendor and haggling is a must - you never really know of you get a good price or not! They can sew custom items for you like tops or trousers from your choice of material which I’d also great. I asked for some trousers, the taylor came to take my measurements and I picked them up the next day

The craft market is a place to visit if you are in Gambia. It has a variety of colours and styles. You will find bags, clothes, dresses, head scarves, fabrics, batik, purses, neck pieces, Bangles, beads, leg chains, waist beads, ear rings, t-shirts, tops and more. African art, wall paintings, sculptures and more. I had a great time

Small craft market. All the stalls are selling identical items. I didn't buy anything. I whizzed through very quickly. Expect to get called and hassled into looking and buying something.

It's a beautiful place tucked into a community of artists filled with handmade jewelry, tapestries made with dye and wax, tye dye. They will teach you the craft of dying pictures and they also sell tye dye goods. A museum of art!

My experience was very relaxed, easy to haggle in the wet season. Variety of clothes, sculptures, souvenirs. I recommend visiting Mama PeePee - she was very polite and didn’t hassle my friend and I at all.

Nice pleasant experience. No aggressive sales and genuine attention. Please haggle on prices. Silverware has to be stamped or don't buy.

It's The Gambia 🇬🇲 😌 how could it not be nice! I like the necklaces and bracelets. I had an awesome time with my brothers in this country, now I am back in America hauling vehicles for Jack Cooper Transport Yours truly, Willy-G P.s. I didn't go inside this shop, I've just witnessed with my own eyes the type of things they sell in The Gambia :)

Don't feel pressured by these people, it's just the way they are. You don't have to buy if you don't want it, if you look they expect you to pay. Best to visit without money first, then go back if you like something. They always tipple the price at first so this is an indication of what to offer.

This place gives a good portret of the Gambia. It is a mix of getho and a beautiful market. Local people and hotels and restaurants buy their near, fish, fruit and vegetables here. Behind the shops you can see how clothes and other crafts are made.

Great place to visit and support the locals! This is where they make the original woodcarvings from small to VERY large and you can learn and watch how they are hand crafted, then barter and purchase at good prices. Across the road is the animal market, which is worth a visit, to see where the locals buy their goats. Support the Gambians!

Wow! This small limited craft market has lots of talent specially in wood carving, cloth embroidery and other small souvenirs. Cheaply available, bargain is must.

  • 5/5 Marta C. 2 years ago on Google
Very quiet place. No stress, no pushy. In fact I was so surprised that lots of wooden stuff is very nice and a bit different than in other craft markets which I could see. Ot seems small but when you get in you will realise that there are two sections. Also if you want them to make you a dress there are “dressmakers” as well.

We tried to quickly visit this place but all the sales man and women will approach you and they have all their own ways and trics to make you buy things. If you go here be prepared for this as it might take longer for you to walk through.

It was my first time to booked ticket and a hotel with a swimming pool in it, that was my best holiday ever, they treat me with great respect , and they assist me with a lot of thing, it was a dream holiday, i have to change flights, it was quite a delay to get on the flights, but it was alright with me, the transportation was fine me , the drive pick me time and on my way back to the airport, i got the same treatment, it was a good driver and was very polite, i didn't even find it difficult to travel. The hotel beach has a very beautiful good view wow, i had a nice time in the gambia, it is a good place to go and experience of a lifetime, everything was a bit expensive for me, i saw some wild animals , and i learn much more about their culture and history of the gambia, i saw some art like picture and order things, and somethings to know about the gambia, i will like to go back, but not at the moment, i have to save alot of money, if your going for holiday you prepare for a longtime, some people dont have to wait for long, everything just happen for them, i like the country, the only thing i dont like some people are suffering alot , and there is nothing to do to help, some people are rich while others are poor , this is not enough help to feed the people, some people have to fly away just to survive and help their families, the president is not helping the gambia people, all he care about is own people, some people are begging in the street, imagine how hard it is to live their, the people in the hotel were quiet helpful, they clean the hotel room each and everyday, they are very good workers, everywhere is clean , i saw monkeys up the trees , birds, they have different building in the compound, it was a good surrounding very peaceful environment nice and quiet place to enjoy yourself, you dont have to go outside must of time, on less if you have to change some money or do some shopping, i had to take transport must of the time, the roads are on finished , is not really good for driver, the road are not good enough to travel, it is very bad to use the road at the moment, i dont know how long they will take to fix it up, there is alot of job to be done, if the roads are good everything will go on smoothly.

It was fun haggling for a good price and little extras thrown in. The wood working and leather shoes and bags are authentic. The people of Gambia are hustlers for real.
