Great Hindu pilgrimage center of north Kerala. Non hindus are not allowed to enter inside. Baniyan trees and large ponds are marvellous. Great ambiance.

This the famous Subrahmanya Swami Temple in north Kerala. Its a very big Temple nearly 2 km from Payyannur Town. The chuttu Vilakku is done by Thukku Vilakku. Nearly 500 Vilakku is used for this. Other than the main deity Lord Subramanya, Dharma Sasthavu, Devi, and Nagas are present here. Those who visit the temple will get good positive ambience.

One of the famous temple in payyanur. Located very near to the payyanur bus station. Decent car parking area available for those planning for marriage function there. Dining area is on the other side of the temple which is not attached to the temple premises and seating is very limited. Pond infront of the temple has lot of fish habitat. The temple is famous for this fish habitat also. We can feed the fish. You can purchase fish feed from the vendor nearby.

This temple is the one that comes right after my favorite temple Trichambaram Shri Krishna Kshetram. I consider Trichambaram temple to be the most beautiful temple in the world. It's not just because I belong to the same place though that has a lot to do with it 😉. Coming to the topic, this is a Subrahmanya temple. You will find all other gods as well like in other temples. The name Payyanur originated from Payyante Oor. Payyan is Subrahmanyan here and you will find that there are plenty of Murukan temples in Payyanur. This is not a common sight in Kerala. [For those interested, Payyanur comes under Kannur District in (Northern) Kerala. The name 'Kannur' has come from 'Kannante oor' meaning Krishna's Land. Kannur has numerous Krishna temples justifying the name.] The dome of the Sanctum Sanctorum or the Sree Kovil of Payyanur temple is in an almost oval shape which is very difficult to find elsewhere. I don't remember seeing such a shape to the Sree Kovil in any other temple I have visited. The environment is calm n serene once you are inside of the temple. It could be noisy right outside though. The temple pond will also be a different experience even for kids. You will know what I mean once you visit it. Have a happy time feeding 😋 the 🐟.

Shree Subramanya temple at Payyannur is a famous shrine is located in Kannur district. The pavitra modiram or sacred ring, made especially on order at the Payyanur Subramania Temple, is what draws people here. Its greenery and quaint vibe sustain a great tradition. Once a ring has been made as per the bearers’ preferences, it is worn after being sanctified at the temple by Brahmins performing ancient rituals. It is one among the district’s most revered sites, seeing a regular flow of devotees...

The two-storeyed sanctum sanctorum here is in the shape of Gajaprishtam [back of an elephant]. This temple also has a 6-ft tall idol of the main deity, Lord Subramanya. Another interesting feature is its 12ft tall compound wall that is constructed in a unique style.
