(Translated by Google) Bibi Hibat Mosque is a historical mosque in Baku, Azerbaijan. The existing mosque was built in the 1990s, before another 13th-century mosque of the same name was built on the site, which was completely destroyed by Bolshevik in 1936. The mausoleum of one of the descendants of Hazrat Mohammad is located in this mosque and is a spiritual center for the Muslims of this region and one of the most important buildings of Islamic architecture in Azerbaijan. The people of this area know this mosque as Fatemeh Mosque, which is the name that Alexander Duma put on the mosque during his visit to this mosque in the 1840s. Background of the mosque The tomb of the daughter of the seventh Shiite Imam, who escaped from the persecution of the caliph to Baku, is located in this mosque. It is written on her tombstone that she belongs to a holy family. According to inscriptions on the south wall of the mosque, historians date the construction of the mosque to the late 13th century, and the inscription on the wall of the mosque reads in Arabic, which was built by Mahmoud Ibn Saad. It is the same architecture that built Nardaran Castle near Baku. Haji Sheikh Sharif is one of the Muslims buried near this mosque. He was one of those who came to Baku to promote Sufism in this city and lived in the same mosque for the rest of his life. Alexander Dumas, a famous French writer who visited the mosque in the 1940s, said in one of his books that the mosque was a place for the worship of barren women. They found. Destruction of the mosque After the Soviet Union seized power in Baku in 1920, Bolsheviks fought against religion, and the Bibi Hibat Mosque and several Christian churches were destroyed. The mosque was demolished in 1936 as a result of Soviet anti-religious struggles. After the mosque was demolished, in the same year in Moscow, the Soviet government decided to preserve architectural monuments of historical significance, and anyone who destroyed the mosque was sentenced to 20 years in exile in Siberia. Reconstruction of the mosque In 1994, after Azerbaijan gained independence, President Heydar Aliyev ordered the construction of a new building for the Bibi Hibat Mosque. Earlier in 1980, the design and construction of the complex was reconstructed based on photographs of the mosque. A small article written in 1925 describing the mosque helped greatly in the reconstruction of the mosque. On July 11, 1997, a special ceremony was held for the mosque in the presence of President Haider Aliyev. In May 1999, the new mosque was inaugurated, and in 2005, according to the president's order, the mosque was rebuilt and enlarged, and new halls were added to make it easier for pilgrims to feel comfortable. Mosque architecture The reconstructed mosque has three domes and two minarets, which are traditionally built and have Quranic inscriptions engraved on the domes.

The mosque was built over the tomb of the daughter of the seventh Shiite Imam - Musa al-Kadhim, who fled to Baku from persecution of Abbasid caliphs. On the tomb there is carved on a stone inscription indicating that Ukeyma Khanum belongs to the sacred family: "Here was buried Ukeyma Khanum, a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, the granddaughter of the sixth Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq, the daughter of the Seventh Imam Musa al-Kadhim, sister of the eighth Imam Ali al-Ridha". Haji Sheikh Sharif was among many Muslims who is buried near the mosque. He arrived in Baku to spread Sufism, and spent the rest of his life in this mosque The modern restored mosque is a classic example of the Shirvan architectural school. The mosque has three domes, which have kept the traditional corrugated galvanised iron shape of the old mosque and two minarets. The domes are decorated with the green and turquoise mirrors, which are bordered with gilded inscriptions from Qur'an. The men's praying room is located on the south side of the complex, while women - on the north side. Between them is the mausoleum

I was expecting much more, as this seems to be a famous mosque. There are no lights at night like other ones. Its on the way to Qobustan, and on the main road itself. Very limited parking along the road side. The mosque is pretty interesting, and prayer room is also available. Its on the sea shore, so you can have the view of sea port and lots of containers and shipyard.

(Translated by Google) After the establishment of the Soviet regime in Azerbaijan in 1920, the struggle of the Bolsheviks against religion began. The Bibiheybat Mosque, which is of great importance to Muslims, became the target of the new government, along with the Orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Baku and the Polish Catholic Church - the Church of the Innocent Pregnancy of the Virgin Mary. In September 1935, Az. The Central Executive Committee and the Presidium of the Baku Soviet passed a resolution "based on the complaints of the workers" and banned religious ceremonies in mosques: "Satisfy the petition of 300 oil workers named after Stalin. In 1936, the mosque was demolished. Many buildings in the complex collapsed after the first explosion, and the tower collapsed only after the third explosion. In the same year after the demolition of the mosque, it was decided to preserve the architectural monuments of historical significance in Moscow. Chairman Azkomstarisa Salamov was exiled to Siberia for 20 years for the demolition of the mosque. Later, a highway was built on the site of the mosque. On July 12, 1998, the mosque was inaugurated after renovations. Bibiheybət Məscidi is a true jewel in Baku's architectural and historical crown. This magnificent mosque boasts not only stunning aesthetics but also a rich and storied past that resonates with visitors. The short drive from the city to reach this sacred site is a journey through both time and beauty. As you approach, the panoramic view of the shipyards and the Caspian Sea beyond is simply breathtaking. It's a unique blend of old and new, where tradition meets modernity. The mosque itself is a testament to the architectural brilliance of the past, with intricate details and graceful lines that speak to the devotion and craftsmanship of its builders. Its history is equally captivating, as it has stood witness to the ebbs and flows of time. For history enthusiasts, architecture aficionados, or those seeking a moment of serenity, this mosque is a must-visit. It stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of faith and artistry, inviting all who enter to be a part of its storied narrative.

(Translated by Google) Bibi Heybat Mosque (azerb. Bibiheybət məscidi) is a mosque located on the shore of Baku Bay, in the village of Shikhovo in Azerbaijan. The existing building was erected in 1998-1999 on the site of the mosque of the same name, built in the second half of the 13th century by Shirvanshah Abu l-Fath Farrukhzad, which was subsequently rebuilt several times (the last time in 1911) and completely destroyed in 1936, during the “godless five-year plan” "When religion in the USSR was attempted to be completely eradicated. The Bibi-Heybat complex, which, in addition to the mosque, includes tombs and burials of significant people, is one of the significant monuments of Islamic architecture in Azerbaijan. The mosque, in ancient times called the “Fatima Mosque”, attracted the attention of researchers and travelers. At one time, writers Abbaskuli-aha Bakikhanov, Khurshudbanu Natavan, Alexander Dumas, orientalists Nikolai Hanykov, Ilya Berezin, Boris Dorn, Evgeny Pakhomov visited her.

Breathtaking! Green jewel! The interior is absolutely amazing. I live in the Middle East and I've been to quite a few mosques. This one is absolutely a must when in Baku. The imam was reading inside close to the people. We came in during prayer time but it was open for tourists as well. Loved the huge choice of scarfs at the entrance (free of charge, of course). You need to have long pants and long sleeved shirt or else you can cover your shoulders with the long scarf they provide you with. Guys can borrow pants in case they are wearing shorts.

I found the mosque to be a pleasant and interesting destination for tourists. The mosque's architecture and design were impressive, and I appreciated the effort put into maintaining the cleanliness of the premises. The atmosphere inside the mosque was peaceful and serene, making it a great place to spend some time in reflection and contemplation. However, I did notice that there were not many informative displays or guides available to provide more information about the mosque's history or significance. As a tourist, I would have appreciated more context to fully appreciate the site's cultural and religious importance.

First step into the mosque and i was awed by its intricate tile work. The mesmerising shades of green will leave anyone captivated. Having the Caspian sea as its backdrop, this mosque will be a place i will not soon forget.

Öne of greatest islamic monuments, the bibi heyhat mosque isva reconstruction of 13 century mosque built in honour of the sister of 7 shiite imam, Ali. Sadly , the iriginal was destroyed in 1936 during stalins campaign yo bana religious worship, but it remained so deeply ingrained in local peoples herats and minds that it was quickly restored arter independence.

its a sacred place for Muslims. Very beautiful place to visit. The best is to go by Uber. Uber is at very cheap price in Baku. It will take 10 Mannat from the centre.
