I am, in general, a pro-zoo person. However, I must admit that Baku Zoo is just begging for tons of TLC (with direct reference to the basic infrastructure, the lack of valuable engaging and interactive conservation education, and the poor animals): It left me seriously wondering what purpose it serves.... absolutely no dis-credit to the Zoo's employees, let me add ... well done, you lot! :-) If an oil-rich country cannot shrug of the shackles of a Soviet era zoo, and endear itself to animal welfare, then it simply begs real questions. It was very sad to see these animals cooped up in tiny spaces with little / no stimulation. I was shocked to see the way visitors treated the animals. For example, I saw a child of about 8 or 9 years old spitting at an emu (and his parents and siblings never blinked an eye!). I saw a father bash the monkey cage (proactively tormenting the monkeys) in front of his young kids. Numerous kids (all totally encouraged by their 'adults') were feeding animals 'human' food such as crisps ... All these experiences today put a tear in my eye! My heart bleeds for those lions, the brown bears, the pythons, the eagles, the crocodile, the foxes ... all of them. There are some simple ways to educate Azerbaijanis into the right way to manage and visit a zoo, where animal welfare is the prime goal. An easy example is to supply food at the little cafe / kiosk specifically formulated for each type of animal (and in so doing, earn some valuable income). Promote volunteers for conservation education / information purposes. Put a donation tin somewhere to encourage people to add to their AZN2 (about €1) entry fee. Encourage kids / schools / kids clubs / companies to adopt an animal / species. Do visit Baku Zoo! Please do visit this precious wee gem in the middle of Baku .... the animals need you!

Its in the middle of the city, so, easy access. Entrance fee is 5 azn for adults. After the renovation zoo is quite clean, well taken care of. Animals all look healthy. (Although its honestly sad to see them in cages)

By far the worst zoo I've ever been to. Definitely needs to be renovated or shut down. Very small places for the always hungry animals and not to mention the bad smells. Even Pakistan has a better zoo than this this was very very disappointing and sad to see.

A very small zoo with very few animals. The cages are too small and the zoo has a few places to sit and enjoy a meal or anything. Many of the animals looked sick.

I recently visited Baku Zoological Park and had an incredible experience. The variety of wildlife and the overall atmosphere made it a memorable trip for both me and my family. The exhibits were well-maintained and it's heartening to see the efforts made to provide a comfortable and natural environment for the animals. The layout of the park is well-planned, making it easy to navigate and ensuring that every exhibit is accessible. This is a fantastic destination for families, nature enthusiasts, and anyone interested in learning more about the incredible diversity of our planet's wildlife. I highly recommend it and look forward to visiting again in the future.

Great place to visit with family and kids. Large variety of animals are kept in this zoo . They are placed in a well ventilated natural habitat however they looked little sad to me . Kids will definitely enjoy this park . The aquarium is also interesting part of the zoo . Eagles and falcon looked depressing though . Many washrooms are available inside the zoo . Additional cafes can be included for competitive food delicacy

It’s is very good zoo. A lot of exotic animals are present there and are kept in very good condition. You can easily spend 2-4 hours there with your kids. Children under 4 years are free. Older than that have a flat rate of 10 AZN per person.

Zoo guides was helpful and friendly all over walks area. Due to high temperature “35c” some animals was like suffering such as lion. At the end you have to exit through zoo shop “good marketing idea”. There is a view point where you would have wide view for the zoo. Elevator was not working so we had to climb the steers with our 2 years baby. Feeding animals is prohibited. There is good verity of animals but you’ll miss elephant and giraffe.

Medium size zoo with a relatively ample selection of well taken care of animals in large enclosures. There is an unique observation house that not only provides great views from an unusual elevated perspective, but also from the city. There are places to stop for snacks and meals and a small gift shop at the exit.

I love this place! After the renovation it looks so much like the open park museum. Good care, clean cages, amazing aqua space, Alice's restaurant, playground for 5-55 years old kids)), and more! You can easily spend the entire day here! I would highly recommend the administration to change the opening hours: 8 till 13 and 17:00 till 22:00 during summer months, since neither children nor animals can stand that heat ( July- August). Last but not the least: it's not a good decision to have the exit through the Zoo shop- not all the families can afford the toys that cost over 15 azn, but all the children do want these toys. Long story short: go there, it worth visiting ♥️, but don't be so picky like me)

Great experience! Perfect location for family outdoors activity. They also have Farm where kids can play with some animals. Had an unbelievable joy being there! Better have some cash, as machines on the entrance accept cash only sometimes, or wait in a line for card payments.

No bears, no lions, no elephants, no rhino, no ostrich, no crocodile, nothing! Only smaller animals that too unhealthy and smelly. Only aquarium is a bit appreciable. Overpriced entry tickets for the foreigners!

Our visit to the Zoological was a moderate experience. The zoo had a decent variety of animals and was certainly geared towards families with young children. It was a convenient size, making it possible to explore within an hour or two, which was a plus for families with limited time. The staff was friendly and helpful, adding a positive touch to our visit. Overall, it was a passable outing for families seeking a simple day of animal watching, but don't expect anything extraordinary. You can visit a park with a lake just beside the zoo.

The first impression when you purchase the entry ticket, you clearly notice that you are a victim of discrimination as a tourist from the rest of the local population, as the ticket prices are doubled, but once you enter the park you see most of the animals in a short period of time due to their small size, which constitutes an advantage for children not to walk a long distance.

Very nice small zoo for the kids to enjoy. Went there with my family and my 2 years old daughter really enjoyed seeing the animals. As little as 2 Manat for adults and 1 Manat for kids, you can have a nice 60-90 minuets walking around the zoo and feed animals. There are Monkeys, lions, tigers, wild birds, bears, snakes, sheeps and more. If you have kids, it’s a lot of fun for them.

(Translated by Google) The large-scale reconstruction of the Baku Zoo, successfully carried out on the initiative of the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the founder and head of the IDEA Public Association Leyla Aliyeva, and implemented by Archico, is successfully continuing. According to 1news.az director of the zoo Azer Huseynov, work is ongoing, new aviaries are being built in which conditions are created for animals as close as possible to their environment. “After the opening, visitors will see a completely different zoo than it was before - modern, with spacious enclosures that meet the most stringent international standards. Baku Zoo will be unique, incorporating all the best that is available today in the best zoos in the world. I want to emphasize that in our reconstructed zoo animals, birds and fish will be kept in conditions that meet the standards of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA). The park also plans to build a veterinary clinic for the wounded and sick animals, which will also meet European standards. Moreover, there are plans to expand the number of inhabitants of the zoo, including through new species of exotic animals from Australia, America and Africa. But exactly about this will become known closer to the discovery. The territory of the zoo will increase by two hectares and will expand from 2.25 to 4.25 hectares, ”A. Huseynov emphasized. Zoo employees will undergo trainings that will be held for them by international experts. Visitors will be able to observe the natural behavior of animals, receive detailed information about them from educational boards and materials. The zoo will turn into a training, research and conservation center, where everyone can get information about animals, the ecosystem, especially about the unique nature of Azerbaijan. In the activities of the zoological park, special attention will be paid to the implementation of programs aimed at increasing the knowledge of the younger generation about nature and its protection. For young children at the zoo there will be a “Favorite Area” with pets (pet farm) and “Butterfly House”. In addition, it became known that a large aquaterrarium will appear in the zoo for both fish and amphibians (amphibians). There are plans to settle zebras and giraffes in the zoo, as well as to build glass tunnels and viewing platforms, a pedestrian bridge. The zoo is scheduled to open during 2020. It should be noted that during the reconstruction started in 2018, the animals were resettled on a site in the Garadagh district of the capital. These are 168 species of animals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish. Baku Zoological Park was opened in 1928 in the Narimanov district of the capital (Original)
