Trip to EAST BORNEO, Bangkirai Hills/Rain Forest. The access is the main problem. Expect the rocky & bumpy road, NOT RECOMMENDED for motorbike & small car. Bangkirai trees has reached 150 years with the height of 40-50 meters. Four canopy bridges connects 5 Bangkirai Trees with a total length of 64 meters and 30-40 meters height from the ground. From Balikpapan City it takes about 30kilometers to reach here. And you need to hike within the forest for about 15-20 mins to reach the canopy bridge. Views that worth the hike.

I love this place very much. It took so much time to get there from Balikpapan. And the access road was not that smooth. Once you are there, you will be amused with the giant trees. The tracking route is so fun. You can also do a tree top activities. A bit scary though. There were not so many people there. SO peace and quiet. There was not any food stall, so you better bring your own water and snack. Bug spray is also recommended. I am not sure if you could see orang utan there but you could observe some birds. Tracking shoes is very recommended. It would be great if the operator could provide w map. The office also sells souvenir such as hat and bracellet.

This is one of the best rain forest park easily located from the city of Balikpapan. You will be able to see a large variety of flora and fauna... There are some trees originated in kalimantan with extra big size. You will also found bridges connecting between trees...

The place is awesome, good maintenance. A good place for a short walk/trekking in the woods. The view from the canopy bridge is beautiful, but becareful up there. The road to this place is not well maintained. During the rain, you better ride 4WD cars to get here. Small cars works fine if the road is dry enough.

(Translated by Google) Bukit Bangkirai (Bangkirai Hills) is one of the natural attractions for travelers who like extra challenges and energy in the forest area. This tourism object is located and managed by PT. Inhutani I Balikpapan, which develops endemic plants typical of Kalimantan such as Meranti (Shorea leprosula), Ulin (Eusideroxylon zwageri), and Agathis (Agathis sp.) As well as several types of exotic plants such as Bangkirai (Shorea laevis) , Meranti Smithiana (Shorea smithiana), and others. This tourist area is located in Samboja District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan. Bangkirai Hill can be reached by road trip for 1.5 hours from Balikpapan City. Guaranteed to be fun, along the forest area to the location of the Canopy Bridge (64m suspension bridge over 30 meters high), very nice views of the forest from the top of the bridge. For those who are afraid of heights but want photos in the middle of a suspension bridge, it can be overcome by not looking down, hehehe. Suggestions to prepare physically because travelers need energy through the forest to the suspension bridge about 900 meters, wear comfortable shoes, just in case the weather is not supportive, please bring an umbrella. Oh yes, entrance tickets and tickets to ride the Canopy Bridge (along the suspension bridge), and public facilities are charged Rp. 31k per person. Enjoy the beautiful natural forest, and enjoy the thrilling challenge of walking along the suspension bridge (connecting 5 large tall trees at a height of 30 meters) which is said to be the first canopy bridge in Indonesia, the second in Asia and the eighth in the world. OK traveler, Happy traveling and enjoying the beauty around the city of Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.

Great place to relax and go for a hike through the untouched jungle/rainforest. Amazing views and scenery from the canopy bridge, as well as very nice hiking trails. Some of the trails are however not marked super well so be prepared to search a bit. Bring lots of water of course! Well worth any visit even though it’s quite the drive, definitely recommended!

Great experience! This is a best place for us to love nature more than ever. You need to walk more than 500 meters from receptionist to canopy bridge. The bridge is very high and i really don't recommended for who have a phobia with it (i forgot what it's called, i hope y'all know what i mean). The view of forest is really nice and beautiful from above. There's also a game like flying fox, climbing, and more!! Hope you enjoy it too.

I recently had the opportunity to explore the stunning beauty of the Bangkirai Hills and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the heart of nature, the National Forest offers a serene and awe-inspiring environment that is a true haven for outdoor enthusiasts. One of the things that struck me about the Bangkirai Hills is its vastness. Spanning over miles and miles of lush greenery, it provides a sense of tranquility and escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The forest is well-preserved and teeming with a diverse range of flora and fauna. Walking through its trails, I was captivated by the towering trees, vibrant wildflowers, and the symphony of birdsong.

bangkirai hills balikpapan, this tour offers the charm of an unspoiled tropical rainforest, which is equipped with tourist facilities and infrastructure such as restaurants, lamin for meetings, swimming pools, as well as cottages and jungle cabins. In this area there is a 64 m long canopy bridge strung connecting 5 Bangkirai trees at a height of 30 m.

A breathtaking exploration of the rainforest! Treetop bridges are fun and scary, but worth the views. We have yet to explore the other activities like flying fox and ropewalk, but are sure to return for more. A great destination for the family, and they have a small cafe, large musholla, as well as cabins to stay the night. My only caution would be don't go on a rainy day, as the roads are slippery and you can get trapped by falling trees. Bring a vehicle with decent ground clearance, like a Toyota Avanza or Fortuner.

This canopy bridge is the first in Indonesia, second in Asia and the eighth in the world. The construction is made in the United States. In a short history, researchers from the United States have conducted a survey of the location and trees and the environment, so the first stage of construction was carried out in January 1998 and the second phase was completed in February 1998 where the bridge was completed in approximately 1 month. which is carried out by six American contractors who are members of the CCA (Canopy Constraction Associated), assisted by three local workers. Apart from wood in its construction, stainless steel or Galvanized from America is also used. From its completion, it is estimated that the canopy bridge will last for 15-20 years in accordance with the age and durability of the material. If you want to travel to the Canopy bridge, you will go through a path by entering a dense forest where there are shady trees. Safe and wonderful canopy tour with an English speaking guide, allowing you to have a fantastic overview on the forest and also excellent for birds and monkeys observation. We also made 1 hour trek in the lushy jungle; we were lucky as we saw the beautiful maroon leaf monkeys Interestingly, at that place, I also made a 2 hour trek during the night with a ranger and we saw different mammals (civets,...), owls and tarentule. Highly recommended Also, close to that place, make a boat trip with a local fisherman on the black river, where you’ll see probiotic monkeys with their huge nose +++
