You can hear everything from the next room, I don't know why. I couldn't get quite sleep at night when I stayed there. The tv was broken & a poor wifi connection. The most annoying part was the broken phone. So every time I needed to ask something, I should go to the lobby. I have told the receptionist about the phone & tv but nothing has been done. I also requested to move to another room (twice), but they said the hotel was full. But when I checked in Reddoors app, the room was still available. I don't understand what's going on. Not satisfying at all.

Bad experience. Looks nice from the outside, and the lobby is also quite beautiful, but the rooms are terrible. Only one lift worked, and very slowly, leading to excessive waiting periods (10+ minutes) during busy times. The rooms are terribly dirty. Everything is covered in cigarette burn stains and everything is dirty. Bathroom appliances are rusted or missing. AC was old and creaky, so loud it woke me up at night. You can hear everything from neighbouring rooms. For whatever reason one afternoon the hotel staff tried to enter my room without anouncing who they are or what they want. Luckily I had the door locked from the inside. When I said that they're at the wrong door (thinking they are another guest who has mistaken the room numbers) they continued trying to open it, then louder through the door what they wanted they just said "Oh just checking." seemingly suprised that I was there and went away. Oh, and finally the pool, was disused. Just filled with brown dirty rainwater.

Sorry but i had a bad experience staying at this hotel, the room's smells really BAD, And the hotel is scary

The place has a strategic location and its entrance hall is beautifully designed. The hotel did not have an official tour desk at the time of my visit, but the reception provided very valuable information for me as a tourist. One star down for the slow lift and the missing option to use the stairs. In overall, I enjoyed my stay very much.

The facilities are quite complete, unfortunately the cleanliness is still "a bit" lacking.😌 There is a ballroom for events, quite spacious and comfortable💙 One of the coolest, I can see the view of the city of Balikpapan and planes passing by, especially if Runway 7 Sepinggan Airport is active✈✈🇲🇨🇲🇨

"A Hotel past of its Glory" a fitting definition for the oldest hotel in Balikpapan. Once, it was the biggest, the most Luxurious & for the most privileged, but now no more. After staying for a night, here's are things I can say : The "kind of scary big old" room & public facilities definitely lacks maintenance. I would give 2.5 Star for the room  & facilities (Lift, stair, etc.) if possible. The staff are friendly & still able to give the standard of best possible services, adapting with the condition of such facilities. So, it's 4 stars. Located near the beach, culinaries & many interesting places and facilities you can easily reach in walking distance makes it the best located hotel to stay for a holiday, so 5 stars for the location should be approved. I recommend this hotel for you who wants to have a group holiday, staying in a big room equiped with err.. "old" facilities, not alone but with friends or familly and you'll get these with low budget. Overall, 3.5 stars.

The covid-19 pandemic has turned the luxury 4 * Benakutai hotel into slums hotel. Too bad.

Once a fancy place, now an old and filthy hotel. Rodents in the room. Only one elevator in the entire hotel, and they closed the staircase.

First impression when my wife and I came to check-in. - Many people complain when they check out because they wait for more than an hour. - The receptionist who works seems very rushed. - Front office employees who don't look fresh, like they just woke up. - Check-in time is very long. - Check-in time until more than one hour. - Check-in should be at 14.00 and can only enter the room at 15.10. - When entering the room the condition of the room is very shabby and not well maintained. - There is no room window lock slot because it is broken. - So the window can not be locked. - The bathroom door, both the handle and the door leaf in the lock slot, is damaged. - The condition of the door is damaged at the bottom. - Can't move to another room location. By the way I stay at room number 202. It's not about price, but how to keep consumers loyalties. Actually this hotel is still good and can still improve its services and improve its facilities. As a consumer personally I am happy to stay in this hotel, even though there are many drawbacks. Hopefully the management can immediately update any deficiencies that now exist.

First the lift was very slow you need atlest 5 minutes to wait on the lift,the wifi sucks aswell,the place is dirty,you cant use the ladder,and there is no warm water honestly i felt like playing a horror games staying on the hotel.but its very close to a mall and other things like fast food restaurants.

Can't believe they have 3 stars on the travel app. Everything are broken, from the door knob, the water tap, the exhaust fan and the room are dirty and filthy and smells bad. They said they had done some renovations yet I doubt very much...that or they just selling unfinished revonated room or even not yet renovated?? Just so can't believe it...

Used to be the best hotel in Balikpapan, now the hay day has gone. Serious makeover is required, maybe another rebranding will bring back interests. I would suggest new name without 'benakutai', something with ultra modern impression or in contrast, deeply embracing local tradition As its new name.

It used to be a good hotel. Benakutai hotel is one of senior hotel in Balikpapan but some how the current conditions is required badly maintenance / renovations to compete with others hotel in town. But if you looking for cheap and strategic location where exactly at the center of Balikpapan then it may become a choice.

Used to be the best hotel in Balikpapan. It is reopened recently hence 'New' is added to its name. It needs renovation: lobby is too empty and dimmly lit, the carpet is old and torn, cheap spring type of bed (although its king size bed), chipped bathroom door (as if someone force open the door). It also need new hotel management suitable to uphold Benakutai big name. The staff is poorly trained (need some hospitality training), poorly dressed (crocked tie, sloppy shirt), and perhaps poorly paid. The pros of this place is: strategic location (in the city), well known, spacious room (twice the size of whiz hotel). Would I stay at this hotel again at this price point? Only if I had too, if I dont have other hotel available!

There's cockroach in drawer and bath tub so disgust There's used tissue everywhere and bathroom also disgust,there's no water heater, wifi not good

The security take a high price for his help and thas so irritating. And the receptionist not help for his customers.

Old building hotel .. quite and some functions not working. good enough for those who stay overnight because of the trip.
