One of the best places I've ever visited! I absolutely loved the room (was lucky enough to stay in the queen room), with its windows providing a direct view to the jungle. We were served meals 3x a day and taken on the orangutan and sun bear tour. For that price, it was totally worth it. We learned a lot about the two species. It was not only eye-opening, but also fun and interesting. Furthermore, the staffs were extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back here one day!

The best place I've ever stayed in my life. I can't even mark it down for the cold showers it's that good. The service is amazing! Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The food wasn't to my taste, but the staff were so accommodating that they would cook me something special to meet my needs. The rooms are very nice and spacious with amazing views! Air conditioning is lovely to come back too at the end of a hot day. The building itself is a work of art. Like living in a giant tree house. And of course the orangutans and sunbears being so close is the best part! Love waking up to the sound of the orangutans!

One of the most special experiences in my 48 years on this planet. August is a special person and these folks all need your help. Please give and please stay here. The food was incredible, the room was amazing (especially considering we were in the middle of a jungle). I recommend arranging transport through the lodge - as the local Grab drivers struggle a bit finding it. We took all the trips and we planted fruit trees (well, they did most of the work) for the orangutans. This place is special and I will carry the memories I made here with me for my entire life.

I stayed here 1 night only. The place is nice, amid a tropical forest. They have 2 main projects, rehabilitate orangutans and bears. I really like the projects. Besides, you can do several trips in the area, like a canopy tree walk nearby. I really liked that. Minus: the hotels is expensive, but a part of the income is flowing into the projects. That's good. But for the rooms, I had 1 of the upper rooms, which are the best in this place. Aircon not working well and toilet was not flushing. For the price you pay here, this should be serviced now and then.

(Translated by Google) Particularly touching was the visit to the rehabilitation center in which the staff works to reintroduce the animals to their natural habitat by removing them from captivity to which they have been reduced by heartless people who use them in circuses or for traditional Chinese medicine.

We tried to come during Covid19 but they were not open for visitors. This time we managed to book a room in the lodge,, and I must say it was such an experience. Was a bit overwhelmed seeing the Orang-Utans, but They are well looked after. Friendly staff, good food, and being in a nature to celebrate the NYE is something different, no fireworks, no lights, no disturbance, only the sounds of nature, Orang-Utans, birds and insects… I feel rejuvenated ❤️❤️ Happy NY 2024

This place is a must if you’re in East Kalimantan. We did our research before and wanted an ethical sanctuary to see Orangutans. They are doing amazing work with what they have. The guide was very knowledgable. The food was great. They have released over 400 orangutans into the wild (not counting the wild ones that can be relocate straight away). The orangutans you see are ones that were too old, traumatised or unwell when they were rescued so they have their own islands to live out their life in a semi-wild set up. Similar situation with the sunbears. They are planting trees every day in the hope to make it a habitat that orangutans can live in one day when the trees are old enough. We were very impressed. Very kid friendly (you can help make up their food learning about what they eat). Catered for vegetarians.

Samboja lodge is very worthy. We can enjoy the vast-dense tropical vegetation view on the top of the tower. Also in the morning and the evening we can hear orangutan and other animals serenade from the the middle of the forest. They offer watching sunbear and orang utan observation. The souvenir are also available on the lodge like t-shirt, hat, tumbler, etc. I enjoy the atmosphere of this lodge, forest and the animal. Very worthy.

The lodge is beautiful, rooms are big, comfortable and equipped with everything you need to have a lovely stay. Food is good and varied to meet different tastes. Staff is extremely kind and friendly. We arrived in early afternoon and an extremely competent guide took out for a tour to see the orangutans, which we could repeat the morning after and included also a visit to the sun bear sanctuary. When we woke up, we could see monkeys climbing on trees out of our window and hear orangutans! Definitely recommended to spend one night at the lodge to have a more immersive experience!

In the heart of the Bornean jungle lies the historic Samboja Lodge. On the front lines of reforestation, they are saving the most endangered bear species on Earth, at the sun bear sanctuary and saving and reintroducing the Bornean orangutans. This is a magic place that gives you hope for humanity. Imam is the finest guide I have ever had. I learned so much and this was such an enriching part of my journey. I loved every minute. Ask to stay in the Rangkong suite. The view from the bathtub is other worldly. I highly recommend this lodge and commend the staff for restoration and ecology preservation on a massive scale.

(Translated by Google) It is an extraordinary place that protects the orangutans from Borneo in a very professional way. (Translated by Google) Having an extraordinary experience when visiting Samboja Lodge here, we found something so extraordinary but also slightly cut our hearts how the wild animals that were previously kept were then thrown away or wild animals that were shot or caught in a trap this beast is a sun bear In addition to sun bears, we also see how parents who are cared for from shipping or confiscated products are prepared to return to their habitat even though we do not know how long they will be ready to return to their habitat. For this reason, let's treat the animals with parents and sun bears, a more handsome behavior so that they can survive the extinction of orangutan freedom.

Really great experience. I did a day trip from Balikpapan to the Samboja lodge to attend the afternoon tour which also includes a nice lunch at the lodge too. On the tour I got to learn and see sun bears, including a cub climbing trees. The sun bears are had lots of spaces and go through various stages of rehabilitation and learning skills like finding food yo be able to be released into the wild. Likewise with the orangutans. It was great to see them living in a caring and learning environment.

I have spent 3 nights in Sambodja Lodge because I had read that we could have activities with orangutans (food preparation, making behavioral enrichment activities, recording observational data). All these informations are also written on the book that is given to you at arrival at the Lodge In fact, it is a SCAM because you are NOT allowed by the staff to do these activities, even if you show them all documents (vaccinations, findings of viral serologies and quantiferon). The rooms are clean and well equipped. The beds are comfortable. Food is good. Thus, I strongly do NOT recommend to stay in Sambodja Lodge. To spend a half day visit in that place is highly enough.

The air is very cool with the atmosphere of natural forest life with backsound sounds of wild animals. The experience of observing the lives of orangutans is very impressive.
