This
large
slow
flowing
river
is
still
having
clean
waters.
Along
its
length
from
its
source
to
its
mouth
in
Manila
Bay,
the
river
is
providing
livelihood
to
its
riverside
dweller.
Here
and
there
you'll
spot
anglers
with
their
catch
of
torsillos,
fresh
water
prawns
and
other
types
of
fish
I
don't
know
the
name.
On
the
Pulilan
portions,
water
hyacinths
(locally
called
KANGKONG),
a
nutritious
vegetable
were
grown.
You
can
also
spot
baklads,
a
sort
of
trap
pens
with
one-way
openings,
wherein
fish
of
a
certain
size
upwards
can
enter,
but
cannot
exit.
In
some
portions
where
the
river
bank
have
been
reinforced
with
concrete,
people
built
seats
where
they
can
sit
and
relax
as
they
savor
the
cool
breeze
from
the
river.
There
was
a
time
when
I
saw
young
boys
dive
into
the
water
from
Calumpit
bridge,
a
plunge
of
15
meters
more
or
less,
but
usually
they
dive
from
the
embankment.
This
river
accepts
the
floodwaters
coming
from
the
northern
dams
so
that
the
land
surrounding
the
river
is
flooding,
but
the
river
is
seldom
overflowing,
except
if
it's
Angat
Dam
that
releases
the
water.
