This museum is a mind blowing experience. Definitely worth the visit and time. Give yourself at least an hour to immerse yourself here. The guided tour is a part of the package and helps you understand the collection better. Can't thank Sushant enough for his very entertaining, engaging explanations. He is very patient with questions and entertains queries with so much dedication. If you're in a hurry, don't visit the museum. It deserves the time. The curator has collected more than 40,000 objects from across the country which requires patience and time. Also, not sharing too many photos, since the exhibits need to be seen in person and photographs do no justice to them.

If you are a history lover and interested to know more details, this is a must visit place where you can find a collection of pre-independence artifacts. This place is located but the interior but Google maps shows exact directions making it easy to find. This place will be worth visiting with kids to show how technology has evolved and improvements were done to lead safe living. Enjoy the place and there is an entry ticket of Rs 300 for adults. Mr Shushant who was our guide on the tour of 3 museums has very good knowledge and explained very minute details about all the artifacts. Thank you "Goa Chitra" team and good job !!!!

Goa Chitra Museum presents the true culture and life of the people in Goa. It was a great experience to relive old memories while walking down the paths of the museum. The tour guide was very fluent with the information that she shared and created an interactive space for us. It was refreshing to see passionate and young tour guides energetically take us around all the 3 museums. This work of one man to collect &moreover maintain over 40,000 objects is highly commendable and valued ! We need more people aligned with a similar vision to conserve the past to enrich all our futures!

Highly recomended .. don't miss... Goa Chitra Museum is a museum showcasing the culture of the Goa state, displays many artifacts from different states as well. Museum seems small from outside but covers a large area and is a conglomerate of three musems. Amazing collection which clearly reflects the stages of life style of the people in the past. The collection of the ancient carriages, carts, musical instruments, tools, utensils .... much more to mention are really stunning... The museum is well maintained, entry fee of Rs. 300 per person, includes guide who undoubtly was extraordinary and very interactive while briefing things.. without whom we couldn't have had such a great time in the museum... overall a must visit especially with children to gain ample knowledge...

The Goa Chitra Museum is an absolute must-visit destination and should definitely be included in your itinerary when visiting Goa. The museum offers a fascinating collection of historic artifacts that are beautifully preserved and thoughtfully displayed. The entry fee to the museum is Rs. 300 per person, which is well worth the experience you'll have. One of the highlights of visiting the museum is the complementary guide that comes with your ticket purchase. These guides are not just knowledgeable, but they also make the entire walkthrough interactive and engaging. They go above and beyond to ensure that visitors are not only informed but also actively involved in the experience. Their passion for the subject matter shines through, and they make the visit truly memorable. I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff of the museum for their hard work and dedication. It is evident that they take pride in their work and strive to create a welcoming and enriching environment for visitors. Their efforts truly enhance the overall experience and make the museum visit a standout highlight of any trip to Goa. In conclusion, I highly recommend a visit to the Goa Chitra Museum. The impressive collection of historic artifacts, the interactive guided tour, and the outstanding staff make it a truly remarkable and unforgettable destination.

After days at the beach, visiting historical temples and churches, visit this museum to experience four hundred years of Goan history at this small but well maintained private museum. The museum has a large number of artefacts with various sections related to transportation from the past, hospital, and surgical instruments (ancient posters educating locals about hygiene and ways to stop the spread of infections). Kitchen pots and pans, kerosene stoves, distilleries, musical instruments, Hindu and Christian items of worship, a model steam engine, clocks, phewwww, the list is endless. The guide who showed us around was very clear and knowledgeable and kept the group well entertained and informed. Everyone and their children thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

Goa Chitra is one of my favourite museums. Most museums stress the chronology of events, which can be boring. Goa Chitra is about lived history. It is also for people who are curious about how objects are designed. Tiny innovative objects that are used over and over again and then get forgotten as society moves on. They encapsulate lived history better than anything that can be found in books. Through objects that were used in daily lives, the museum gives you a sense of how Goans have lived their lives through the centuries. The highlight is the transport section of the museum where you can see the range of different types of carts people in India have used to travel. In Goa Chitra, you travel both across space and across time.

This is a must visit place for anyone travelling and exploring South Goa. The owner Mr. Victor Hugo Gomes is a humble person and getting a chance to meet him and visit his collections representing culture of ancient Goa was a great experience. Our guide Ms. Coreen ma'am was very knowledgeable in explaining the different museums making the guided tour interactive for us. The ticket cost per person is 300/- covering all three museum's guided tour. Since I had a rented bike and was exploring South Goa, I found the road signs at turns leading to the museum very helpful. These days we speak a lot on sustainable living where Recycling plays a key role. The ancient cultures knew this back then which can be seen through the collection. Thank you for such a great experience!!🙂

This is a little gem of a museum 😀 in South Goa! Must visit place - you must take out at least 2 hours for this museum tour. Tickets priced at 300, kids charged half - which is all worth it. I believe crowd management can be a bit better.

Not an easy find, but it's tucked amidst a serene way in the beauty lanes of goa. There are 3 museums as part of the entire experience that is guided as part of the entry fee that's Rs 300/- per person. As per your choice of language, i.e. English, hindi or goan the tour is given. The museum has various rare artefacts that date back to the 17th era, mostly from the time goa hadn't received independence. It shares the tools used for cooking, warfare, hospitals, music, and even commute. Right from the religion intricacies followed to daily means of living, customs and unknown nuances across cultures pertaining to different states of the country are displayed here. Since there is a lot to show and very little space you might find it a little cramped up but the entire guided experience is indeed fun for people who love museums and are truly inquisitive about the evolution of man and his toys across sectors. The tour is approx 45 mins for all three museums and you can go through it at ease. There is a cute cafe as well for some chilled drinks and light food. Must visit museum!

This museum is a must visit place if you really want to go back in time. What a collection! The owner himself collected all the artifacts over the years. It's really unbelievable. There are a total of 3 different museums that get covered in a single ticket of Rs. 300 per peson. A personal guide is provided, which is a great thing. Property is very well maintained.

Absolutely loved visiting this place. A must visit place for all those who love history, ancient culture. It is an amazing collection of old items and artifacts and the owner / Curator has done a commendable job in collecting and maintaining the museum. The staff guide Sarah is very knowledgeable and literally took us down the history lane and very nicely explained about the collection. Overall, a real WOW and pleasurable visit to the museum. Time well spent.

Good museum to understand the tool used during pre Portuguese era. There are three museums in total. Entry fee is Rs150 per person which includes a guide too. This museum is divided into three sections - Chakra, Chitra and Kruti. Overall good time spent here understanding the various tools, transport mechanisms used during those days. Just one feedback - Guide explains too fast and in a hurry. May be due to the limited number of guides available. We are told that time will be given to click pictures later but again under the vigilance of another guide so that we don't touch the exhibits which I agree. But then I feel they should increase the number of volunteers to overlook such things.

Nice to see this museum. There are plenty items from old era to now a days. Different sections depending on items. Can't judge from outside, there is huge area covered by museum. Guides were also explained properly. However, ticket prices are little bit higher. And mainly maintenance is not proper. Management need to look at this. Overall, good to visit once.

Well maintained museum having 3 different sections. The guided tour was really good and descriptive. 1 hour would be enough time to walk through and know about Goan cultural things and other various heritage objects kept in the museum. Recommend to visit if you want to explore Goa other than beaches.

It was a wonderful place to visit. I was pleased to hear that it's a private museum who had been collecting antiques since his childhood times at the age of 10. Through his passion for the antiques, we came to know more about the old Portugal culture in Goa.. i am also thank ful to the guide who took great interest in explaining the whole units.. There is also a cafeteria where you can take refreshments. Do not consider this as a fun place. This is a treasure place where we find ourselves long years back..it's our history. I once again Thank you sir for letting us to see your museum.. Lovely to see one more time..

Visited Goa Chitra Museum after hearing great reviews and was totally in awe of what Victor has done to bring together an eclectic collection of objects across Goan and Indian history under one roof, all individually curated and painstakingly restored. This is one of the largest exhibits of this nature, truly worthy of the time you spend. The space is divided into three distinct zones - one which catalogues vehicles over the 100s of years from different states, the second which documents Goan culture and history, and the third which speaks to day to day objects from the people of this land, as well as an ode to the very first medical facility of its kind in India, which was started right here in Goa. Sushant was assigned as our guide - a gem of a person who walked and talked us through the entire space. A treasure trove of knowledge, Sushant answered all our questions and gave us anecdotal stories of how some of these pieces of history came to be. He was interactive throughout and put us all at ease through his personality and his vast, multilingual vocabulary that connected with people from other states too. The photos in this review show only a few of the thousands of items in the museum. I would definitely recommend every person coming to Goa to take out an afternoon for this ~1-2 hour tour and take in the culture and heritage of this land, while also admiring the efforts of Victor and his team to curate and maintain Goa Chitra Museum, as well as the guides who provide a truly immersive experience!

The museum offer 3 tours which showcase the rich cultural influence of the Portuguese on the history of goa. The ticket costs are 300 per person as its a private collection. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour for a guided tour.photos are allowed. It ranges from the judges office , utensils , medical equipment, clothes and furniture alongwith other various transportation modes and agricultural tools. The only negative thing is a slight prejudice of the guide regarding indian culture which can be a little disappointing.

A really awesome and truly inspiring place. This museum is a must-go for all the history/culture enthusiasts coming to goa. The ticket price is 300₹ for all the museums (there are 3 seperate museums here). The founder: Mr.Victor Hugo Gomes was really jolly during our visit. Our tour guide was a good story-teller and explained every artifact in great detail and also translated some terminologies in Malayalam, hindi and few other languages. The collection of carts are really great and we can see the clear evolution of transport in Goa, and other parts of India. 10/10 best place for almost everyone coming to goa

3 types of small museums are there. - about wheels ( carts, charakas , palanquins etc across ancient India) - farming tools, pottery used in ancient Indian people - musical instruments etc Even though the collection is maintained well, Entry fee too expensive. ₹150 per person per room. Overall for 3 combined, it's ₹500. You get a free guide. But that minimal information they give can be written on a board itself.

People would prefer beaches and bars when in Goa rather than visiting museum. Even I was of the same opinion until I visited Goa Chitra Museum, Benaulim. This is a must visit place (esp. if you are historophile) for the sheer work that Mr. Gomes has done to collect the artifacts from various parts of the world. His collection has more than 4000 items showing cultural heritage of Goa. They offer a 45 minutes tour with a guide (3 category) charge you ₹300 for adults and ₹150 for kids. Their guides are very well spoken and informed about the history of Old Goa. Do visit this place if you are in or around Benaulim. You won't be disappointed.

This Museum is an ambitious and grand vision of an individual collector. It is unimposing, nestled in the village of Benaulim but opens up into 3 separate collections - Kruti, Chakra and Chitra. I found Chakra with its amazing collection of traditional carts and modes of transport as well as some carts of colonial times from all over the country the most fascinating. It was also the most well displayed. Chitra was devoted to Goan agrarian life. The collection was extensive but could be better display or arranged. Kruti the section which presented Portuguese living in Goa could be better curated. The museum ticket includes a guided tour and our guide Alfonso courteously explained all the exhibits. If you want to experience Goa beyond the beaches and the food, Goa Chitra provides a nice glimpse of its history and culture along with some older modes of transport as bonus. Well done Victor Hugo Gomez.

It was an amazing experience to witness such a huge, private collection of antiques of eras gone by. Mr Victor Hugo Gomes, the owner, is an artist, collector, and restorer, and we had the great opportunity to meet and talk with him. It was both interesting and informative to see the three museums - Goa Chitra, Goa Chakra, and Goa Cruti. Each artifact holds a story.. and our guide Ashika helped us to understand all of it as we wove through a treasure trove of relics so lovingly and painstakingly collected and displayed. Time stood still as we were transported back to times where developments were achievements. The ticket is for Rs 300/- per person, which includes all the 3 museums and a guide. Worth it .. Would love to visit again.

It is difficult to understand what's on display if one tries to explore by themselves. Would be helpful if they add titles to all displays.

Want to see the true culture and history of Goa, beyond what the media presents then this is a must visit on your next trip. I visited Goa Chitra and all the three museums earlier in December and have been lost for words to describe my experience. This is due to level of details that Victor Hugo Gomes and his team present during the tour and story behind each artefact and item showcased here. It leaves you in awe of what was and what Victor has personally procured and preserved all these years for the people to see and relive the days bygone of the Portuguese era. The museum is a hidden jewel in the Benaulim area of South Goa and is easily accessible by road using Google maps. Finally, the museum is the best example of one man's dedication to nurturing and preserving ancestorial tools and equipment that were once a way of Goan life. Hats off to Victor and his hardworking and dedicated team.. Watch this space as Victor's got some more interesting ideas up his sleeve for us due to come up in other parts of Goa like a Marine artefacts museum and another showcasing some good ol Motorbikes of the golden era.

Goa Chitra Museum is a doorway to the past. Well preserved artifacts are divided into three sections for better understanding and a peek into the Goan way of living before modernization. We were fortunate enough to meet the curator/owner of the collection, Mr Victor Hugo Home, who explained the idea behind his project and the presentation. Instead of adding plaques with the information about each article, there is a guide. Our guide, Tracy was knowledgeable and made our visit to the museum all the more interesting and personal. Thank you for preserving a part of Goan history. This place is worth a visit

Lately I have been trying to explore whats in Goa, and I came accross this place using Google Map. So i travelled 48 kms from Mapusa for about 1:30hrs. Was is worth? Personally I found it worth a visit as it showcases some antique artifacts from yesteryears and the complimentary guide it a topping on cake with the entry fee of ₹300. Things that could be improved: personally I think the museum should tune well with its name, meaning I wish the owner of the place with no doubt has given importance to Goan pre/antique things but would really love to see more of Goa from those years. Sharring some of my pictures from the visit.

A labour of love, commitment and scholarship, the Goa Chitra Museum is the culmination of conservation expert and restorer Victor Hugo Gomes' dream of presenting Goa's ancient and colonial history in a new narrative and context. The collections are spread across three museums, the Goa Chitra, the Goa Charkha, and the Goa Cruti, each highlighting a unique aspect and connection between communities, colonizers and the common man. The guide made the whole experience come alive with her knowledge and interpretation, hats off to her dedication. I would recommend carrying water, snacks (you can eat outside, not within the premises), and a fully charged mobile (take as many pictures as you like) while visiting this place: depending on your interest in history, culture and craftsmanship, you could be spending anywhere between 2-3 hours here. This museum is a hidden gem of Margao; you could plan a visit to Colva Beach, the local churches, and round it off with a traditional Goan meal at any of the local restaurant.

The owner - Mr. Victor Hugo Gomes himself gave a brief introduction of the Museum . Approx. visit duration is ~ 2 hours. I was amazed to see such a widespread and rare collection dating back to several past years. We got a dedicated Tour Guide who explained on the 3 main sections of the Museum. The museum has a fair share of Local Goan History as well as from across the country specially of pre-Independence day era. The artefacts primarily covered the Transportation aspects as well as included the day-day chores not limited to the Cooking aspects, sanitization, eating habits, medical needs, recreational facilities, communication protocols, armory, fishery, plantation and agricultural aspects. They also had a Cafe but was closed due to renovation work as well as due to Covid. Think they should start that and have Light refreshments to offer . Was astonished to understand from Mr. Gomes that this was just 10% of his personal collection and wherever possible all these artefacts have been restored . Located quite close to the Colva Beach , tickets are priced at 300 each and is suitable for all age groups. It was truly a fascinating experience and to dwell into the rich history of Goa was quite enriching..

It is a nice museum worth a visit by people who love antiques and a peek into the past legacy. A quiet and clean building houses thousands of old artefacts which have been meticulously restored. The entry is paid and includes a guided tour. There are three parts to the museum and ticket for each part can be bought separately. A comprehensive ticket for full museum is also available. It takes about an hour and a half to have a leisurely tour of the whole museum.

Very nice place. 30 acres land. It shows the old goa, and all the cultures of goa. Created in a private property by an individual in the center of South Goa with so much greens and peace. Worth visiting the place. I really loved it.

I visited this place today after seeing in maps details like it's open, but today (27 Jan, 2021) the time I reached there at about 12:30PM, it was closed without any sign board/notification. No one was there at reception as well. It was all a silent place.

It's a private museum with artifacts and items from the colonial past of Goa. Some collectibles reflect the past, however it did not really come across as a 'wow' factor.

What an interesting place! My daughters were enthralled by the historic collection (although for those born before 1985, this may form done of their childhood!!). The guide is especially engaging and he explained the history and utilization of the objects in a way that our kids understood it. I'd definitely suggest a visit to those with young kids.

If you are looking for a break from the beaches then this museum is one of the tourist attraction in South Goa which you can visit. This museum is divided into 3 sections- Goa Chakra (different modes of transport used over the years across India), Goa Chitra (collection of traditional tools, arts and crafts including things which were used before electricity) and Goa Cruti (collection of artifacts showcasing colonial past of Goa). The Museum guide was very knowledgeable and briefed us in detail on every aspect. Museum is pet friendly. The entry fess was Rs.300 per person (3museum), Rs. 150 pp (1 museum) and Rs.250 (2 museum)

Remarkable work by victor gomes, the man behind the museum. They have 3 museums in itself, each one interesting, very wide collection of artefacts. But, it would be appealing to you only if you are interested in the history (Goa, India) and learning aspects around it. Curainne was our guide, very neatly explained everything, a commedable job. If you are looking for an offbeat experience in Goa, it's a must visit.
