Dating back to 625-650 AD, the Laxman Temple in Sirpur chattisgarh is one of the most famous structures in the city. It is believed to be one of the best examples of brick temples in India and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The intricate carvings on the exterior of the temple make it special. These designs include Lord Vishnu, Krishna Leela symbols, Vaishnava Dwarpal, and pictures bearing resemblance to the famous erotic work as in the Khajuraho Temple. The mandapa which originally bore stone pillars is now in ruins. The archaeological remains in and around Sirpur consists of both Hindu and Buddhist monuments in the form of temples and monasteries. Among them, the most well preserved magnificent temple is the east facing Lakshmana temple built by Vasata, the mother of Mahasivagupta Balarjuna in 7th century AD. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this brick temple stands on a high massive platform accessible by steps in the north and the south. The plan of the temple consists of a garbagriha, antarala and a mandapa. The mandapa now in ruins was originally upheld by stone pillars in rows. The exquisitely carved doorframe depicts figures of Seshasayi Vishnu along with his other incarnations. This temple is one among the best examples of brick temples of ancient India. It’s only and only one bricks carving temple in India. Amazing and wonderful. Worth visiting place.

One of those places which should be in your places to visit list. Though the place is maintained nicely, the efforts to make it more popular should be explored. Entry fees of 25/person (20 in case of electronic payment) is reasonable enough. The campus is not so well maintained... It houses a mini museum too in which old, rare edifices and statues are displayed. Nearby places of archaeological interests too are there

Beautiful and historic place, full of stories. I recommend to take a guide along so that you know the history of temple and museum otherwise it will just be an old building for you. Garden area is beautifully developed and temple is very well maintained by ASI.

The place is actually an Archaeological site which is approx. 1500 years old. The architecture of the temple will amaze anybody. A museum is situated at the back side of the temple preserves ancient statues and rock engravings from various historical sites of India. The place also has a park where you can sit and relax. The place is usually busy on Sunday.

It's a great place to Visit, well maintained and easily reachable. If you plan a trip to Sirpur then you must visit Laxman Temple, Surang tila and Dashkund waterfall (here you can cook and enjoy as it's a beautiful spot). And if, after this, there's more time left in your hand then you must visit Giraudpuri Dham (Via Kasdol), it's 61 km from Dashkund but as roads are very good you will reach there in 1:30 hour max, remember it's a place worth Visiting.

Calm place. Visitors have to buy ticket/pass for Rs. 25. Best time to visit is in the evenings before sunset due to the place being hot. The temple has been excavated and restored. Good place to hang out with kids. There is also an excavated site opposite to the temple main gate. There aren't any guides available so no one to explain the historical importance of the temple.

A leisurely place. Good for just one day visit for picnic stuff. Nicely preserved by Archaeological society of govt of India. 25₹ per person is the entry fee for Indians and 200₹ for each foreigner. Its a calm place without any rush and is not more than 1.5 hours from Raipur.

Very spacious premise having the historical temple, a small museum and large gardens with good arrangements to sit and soak the beauty. All the incarnation of lord Vishnu are made on the sides of the entry gate. Four of these are in good shape. On the top of the door you can notice the lord laying on Sheshnag. Not many food or eatry options so either bring something along or have it on the way to Sirpur. The place would take 30 to 60 mins.

Marvel of Indian sculpture, a time tested witness to the ages of rich culture and history, Laxman Temple and the surroundings of the district Mahasamund of Chhattisgarh are a treasure sort of thing for people with interest in ancient India. You get a feeling as if you are walking amidst the era of 3rd to 6th BC ....while going through the remainings of temples, structures and sculptures kept safe in the musuems.

The Lakshmana Temple is a 8th century Hindu temple built by Vasataa devi located in sirpur. Looks like temple colour was white but somehow all the plaster was decay, so now it’s bricks 🧱 only.
