On a payday Friday night it was warm, friendly and welcoming. Not crazy busy but with a few tables for groups and loads of interesting draught options. I really liked the atmosphere and it felt like a real local pub from the past. Bonus points for having loads of bar staff, being dog friendly and vegan food options

I llllove the little shacks in the garden area, nice, warm, christmasy, and cozy. The pizza is pretty damn good, and their skin on fries... omg if they nailed it 💯 staff is chilled and polite. Best pub in the area!!

A place to go to for reliably good Sunday roasts and great pizza. They have a chef who hand stretches the dough and use a proper pizza oven. They even use the pizza oven to crisp up the roasts. Reasonably priced drinks. Good atmosphere, real mix of people from families to game watchers. My only non-positive comment is the fish and chips is underwhelming, the portion of mushy peas was less than expected and the meal was very salty, salt sprinkled all over the fish which didn’t need it, as well as over the chips.

I live in the Borough and have always walked past this bar, by the bus stop opposite New Cross Gate Station, its like an Oasis going in side, you don't expect it to be as nice as it is My friend was visiting and suggested we go in, the food was great with large portions, the ambience and the vibe was relaxed, the staff were attentive and friendly overall a great time. I would definitely go again.

A lovely New Cross pub, on the posher western end of New Cross Road, this place has an interesting menu and good selection of drinks, but the fantastic staff make it great. It’s also a place where you can discreetly watch sport but remain looking cool and attentive

one of the best pubs, so underrated. great vibes outside, massive beer garden! really nice pizza and INSANE sunday roast. Probably the best sunday roast around - the beef is unbelievable quality and gravy is amazing. 100/10

The food was OK, ordered the steak med/raw, but it came well done. Fish and cips were good my partner pint of gussiness was never brought to the table despite a few reminders People are nice but a bit disappointed Could have been good

An enormous Sunday lunch. Double portion of pork belly, it felt like, would have liked a smaller portion of that and a few pounds off the bill. £4 for a coke also feels quite a lot... Very tasty however, excellent veg, and a beer garden (covered tables outside!). Would come again

Went here the last night before December lockdown and while it was busy the staff was still attentive and managed to run the restaurant in a COVID safe manner. It was my first time here and to be honest I didn’t have great expectations of the food, but luckily was proved wrong! The food was very good and would defiantly come back now we are allowed out for dinners again. Great options on the menu and was tasty and flavourful.

I came here with my wife's new boyfriend and I can honestly say I had a wonderful time given the circumstances. The staff were very understand and not at all judgemental, they where very welcoming and attentive. I had a roast while Jerome and my wife shared a pizza, they said it was delicious (so was the roast!) but u wish they hadn't lady and the tramped the last piece. my only complaint is the wobbly pizza cutter! 10/10 otherwise!! I stayed behind after they went home so that they would have the flat free for some cuddle time and enjoyed a glass of rose with myself and a sudoku

I was here yesterday with my friend and I was surprised how well the waiter treated us. He is a genuine nice guy that makes you feel safe and well in this pretty place. Sorry I forgot your name but thank you for your service! 10/10 Also they are very careful with the new restrictions we live under so hats off for this place! Thank you again.

Lovey atmosphere. Lovely friendly approachable staff. We came for lunch with our dog who was very welcome. On my online booking I requested a corner table and that's just what I got. The food was spot on and the waitress was able to recommend a wine to my taste. Brilliant! Only very small issue was that my partner had requested to take the rest of his food away because his eyes were too big for his belly! Unfortunately, the food was discarded. However, our waitress was very apologetic and gave plenty of options to rectify the situation. All in all a lovely experience!

Great roast, never been somewhere where you can have all of the meats and sauces! Service by Elliott and the team was great, good drinks selection.

First time here, so far so good. Nice vibe, cool people, heated outdoor spaces. Didn’t have any food here but decent selection of beer. Good enough for a quick pint.

Nice pub opposite new cross gate station. It has a fabulous outside area both back and front. Menu isn't too bad, a little hit and miss sometimes, pizza is its main fair. The pub is very popular with students.

Friendly bar staff, ordered food, came to the table in around 15 mins. Had the beef chuck burger & the vegan burger - both served with delicious triple cooked chips & slaw. Followed up with apple/blackcurrent crumble & rhubarb/sorbet (vegan) dessert. Atmosphere is nice & relaxed, enjoyable pub. Football also shown. 2 floors & garden

Nice and spacious beer garden, good atmosphere, good selection of beer on tap and table service available

  • 2/5 William C. 2 years ago on Google
Lovely pub in an excellent location opposite the New Cross Gate station. We had Sunday roasts and were disappointed with the quality of the food and level of service was not great either. The beef quality wasn't great - fatty and chewy. Chicken was OK. All the trimmings were served cold even the roast potatoes. Already roast potatoes I ever had. TBH I won't even serve them to guests , let alone to paid customers. The portion size was OK and a bit pricey.

Bar staff were so rude. I ordered brandy and forgot to ask for cola with it, but the bar tender had started talking to another bar tender about her uni studies by the time I asked for the cola. They both looked at me as if to say “you’re interrupting our important conversation to order cola”. I ordered avocado salad which they kept almost taking up and throwing away every time (I kept catching them just in time before they got rid of my plate) Oh sorry, I never realised I had to eat the salad all at once! Eventually, I had one bite and wanted to bring it home with me - went to order a drink and by the time I knew it, the salad disappeared. No refund, nothing. Hostile atmosphere and I’ll be honest and say I know a couple of people who have good days here and bad days, so I clearly caught this pub on one of its regular off days! Not happy!

Always great venue during day and night. Delicious menu freshly cooked and pizzeria. Staff friendly and efficient, restaurant with table service plus great garden space with music and bbq

This is very much my new local, a little pricey and there is student vibes being so close to goldsmith's but the redecoration they have done between lockdowns has been amazing. The beer garden is now a really lovely place to sit out. The food has never ever disappointed me, for a pub it's more restaurant quality food, still haven't tried one of their pizzas but they look amazing. The starters are lovely. The menu changes seasonally so it's always nice and fresh. I haven't tried it but my partner loves the vegan bowl

Had a great pizza and drinks here with an old school friend. We began drinking in the Rose in the 70s in our school uniforms and I have to say I think it's in the best state it's ever been in. The interior is lovely and there is a very nice outdoor area which is bigger than you'd think. Teeny gripe only that there is no real ale. Fix that and I'd give the fifth star! Lovely place and people now, we'll be back before long.

Pleasant surroundings, pleasant service - this is really just a place your young people to drink. Sunday roast beef was £20 and very chewy. A good place to socialise, but I'd avoid the food.

Newly refurbed and a cosy yet trendy addition to our neighborhood. Fantastic selection of food, a really big, covered and heated garden that twinkles with fairy lights and really friendly staff. They also do table service which is great when the bar gets busy.

Great pub, fantastic beer garden, decent selection of beers. Just had a face lift which, not necessarily needed, looks good. Gastro pub vibes, not traditional at all. No cask beers, standard power pint selection with the odd Brew Dog/Beavertown choice.

Great pub, nice atmosphere, we went for a Sunday roast and it was one of the best we’ve had. Staff are very friendly and service excellent.

Expensive! Pub selling itself as a restaurant with prices to match. Beware of the added service charge! Good food, well appointed interior. Staff pleasant enough though not really dressed for the image they try to sell. I would go again but I'll have to save up a bit first.

  • 3/5 James D. 2 years ago on Google
Went on a Sunday. Typically you expect to wait longer on Sunday service. But it would be better customer service to be told that food will take an hour. Food was good but not exceptional. If something is within the description of the menu item please ensure it is on the plate/bowl. Overall good place.

A most delightful tavern ( I am travelling and took advantage of the fayre on offer, both solid and liquid). A fine pint and very good value "One Pot stew", all fine. The Rose is a wonderful rambling kind of pub, over the road from New Cross station. There is a large rear seating area with an expansive courtyard garden, also a little more room upstairs. The staff here are excellent, welcoming and cheerful. This is a most pleasant place to pop in for a drink.

Sunday roast and pizza were fabulous. Especially pleasant is the new chef Bruno who took time to take us through the best options in the menu. With staff like Bruno and food like this, we will be return visitors!

Nice pub with beer garden and goblin statues 😂

  • 4/5 Enrico 1 year ago on Google
Cool place with a massive beer garden. Really good selection of food and pizza. Ingredients seem of quality as well. Went for a pit stop pint and shared a pizza and a portion of triple cooked fries. The only thing I didn’t like (despite it said on the menu) was the tomato sauce with the Salsiccia and Friarielli pizza as I think it’s a pizza that needs a white base (as per tradition).. Aside from that minor detail, we were looked after really well and the table service staff was always around in case we needed something. Food came out pretty quickly.. nice and quirky! Recommended!

Lovely pub with great beer garden and food. The cocktails were very sweet, I get that this is not a cocktail place but if you are going to serve them then it’s best to do them right. Other than that small detail, I love the place

Best Sunday roast I've had in ages! Brought my daughter and we are both vegetarian and the Beetroot Wellington was absolutely delicious. The Yorkshire puddings are worth the visit alone! We would love to have tried the desserts but were too full of lovely roast. Will definitely be back!

Class pub/restaurant with quality food! Came with my parents at the weekend and everything was great! Slick service, tidy tables/cutlery etc. Very big venue so can hold a large capacity. Would love to go back and try some different foods as the pizza (as you can see) was top tier

A good gastro pub run close to Goldsmiths university. The servers and staff are always super kind and the pizza is great. They sell out the vegan and veg options pretty quickly though. Their sticky toffee pudding is really good too. Outdoor space fills up pretty quickly so be fast if you want a seat under the heaters.

Nice place but cleanliness need to be upgrade. Also young staff is more interested into themselves then guests and loudness of them is disturbing clients.

Lovely staff, observed social distancing/lock down rules well and great food/wine!! Defo worth a visit, especially in the new year when hopefully things will be a little more "normalised" post Cvd19.

  • 3/5 Samuel T. 3 years ago on Google
Not a bad little pub, nice atmosphere and lovely interior. However, We were a little dissatisfied with the 2cm of head being served on some of our drinks, when we asked if they could be topped up we were abruptly told "that's how they come and it won't change" which is against the BBPA guidance that states "Requests from customers for top-ups should be received with good grace and never refused, subject to avoiding spillage of liquid." We also has a service charge added to our second and third drinks order but not the first which struck me as odd, other than these few off putting things we had a pleasant evening in a very nice pub

  • 5/5 Jamie B. 3 years ago on Google
Pizzas were absolutely fantastic. I was going to say fantastic for a pub kitchen, but actually way better than many pizza places. The staff were great, friendly and welcoming. We'll be back soon!

Had a lovely meal in here with the family, everybody found something they liked on the menu. I had the Flat Iron Steak which came with delicious chunky chips, cooked just the way I like it. Not too busy at the time but it was during that time between Xmas and New Year. Would definitely go again if I'm in the area.

Cool pub, friendly fast service, great crispy pork belly and summer slaw. Reasonable priced selection of beers. Beer garden gets noisy due to trains passing through New Cross station so went inside after eating and watched the snooker. Well worth a visit.

One of my favourite London pubs. The food is always fantastic, especially the Sunday toast! Great selection of drinks. I'm a big fan of beer and the stock all the greats from Camden to Beaverton. Staff are amazing, the pub is beautiful and there is a great outdoor space suitable for summer and winter!
