Good food at a decent price, in a good location. One of the best outdoor areas of pubs and bars in Manchester, albeit still cold in winter even with the heaters on (not their fault really). Vegan burger was tasty - not a fake meat burger, but mashed up veg and seasonings which makes for a more flavourful burger in my opinion!

Great range of beers and quality food well worth a try. Has a small beer garden in case it stops raining. Good food too. Tried the haggis egg starter (yum!) and steak pie. Very nice and well priced.

We had our wedding reception at Rain Bar, and Alex and the team made it a perfect day. The food, the service, everything about it, was fantastic. We can’t thank the team enough, and would recommend Rain Bar to anybody looking for a venue, to have a celebration or event

A very nice bar this with an interesting history, we had some Sunday afternoon lunch here and it was top notch. They have a nice beer garden looking over the canal.

If you like a homemade pie, then this is the place for it. Great vibe, reasonable prices for city centre and great outlook over the canal. Used to be an umbrella factory, hence the name. Toilets badly in need of an upgrade

Really enjoyed our trip to Rain bar! It was a new find of mine and I was pleasantly surprised! Absolutely loved it, enjoyed sitting outside to eat as the weather was so nice! But inside was just as nice! The food came quite quickly and was absolutely delicious! Staff were very pleasant and friendly! Only slight downfall is i felt it was a little bit over priced, but the food was delicious so i could overlook it!

I recently visited The Rain Bar in Manchester with a large group of 16 friends. It was an absolutely delightful experience. From the moment we walked in, the staff were very welcoming and provided an excellent service. The food was lovely. The menu offered a great selection which catered to all our tastes and preferences, this includes the presentation. Compliments to the Chef for this. What truly set The Rain Bar apart, was the exceptional service provided by the staff. They went above and beyond to ensure that every member of our party felt attended to. The staff was attentive, friendly, and displayed a genuine enthusiasm for their work. It was evident that they took pride in providing excellent service, and it made our visit all the more enjoyable. In conclusion, I highly recommend The Rain Bar in Manchester. The delicious food, outstanding service, and inviting atmosphere make it an excellent place to visit in the heart of Manchester. The Rain Bar is a definite must visit. Thank you to Alex King and his staff for the exceptional service.

We had our wedding reception here back at the end of April 2023. Of course, we knew Rain Bar for years as a great bar with outdoor space by the canal which was why we thought of it. It was absolutely amazing, beautiful newly renovated function room, great service through the evening, great food - loads of guest compliments to the chef! There were individual yummy gluten-free platters for our celiac guests which they really appreciated. Special thanks to Alex with whom we met to plan everything and very special thanks to Sarah who set up our decorations thoughtfully and beautifully. About 60 odd guests, plenty of space to dance and chat with drinks. Seating for family members who needed it. The area is so lovely with the fairy lights and the canal, we took some of our wedding couple shots there. Could not recommend this venue enough for events!

I booked my works leaving do at short notice for last night. Alex and his team reserved a space for about 30-40 people and were able to serve some bar food for early arrivals despite being booked up for functions. I was blown away by the brilliant service. Thankyou Alex so much and to Ursula and your amazing team. We had a fantastic night. Sue

Excellent place, full of character. We had a lovely area in front of the fire for 6 of us. The food was well presented and hot, all 3 courses, and we never felt pressurised all evening. A very relaxing evening. The staff were lovely.

  • 4/5 Adrian L. 5 years ago on Google
A nice bar with a large outdoor terrace area which is probably the main draw for this place especially when the weather is good. The bar is located just next to the canal so it's all very pleasant, nice and scenic. Customers can be seen lounging along the canal walkway too. Friendly and easy vibe, with a traditional-ish looking bar. Didn't try the food but stopped here for drinks.

I hired the function room for a party and I have to say that the service, food and staff were brilliant. I had looked at other function rooms before booking Rain Bar and it was definitely the right choice. Sarah and Alex were great at arranging everything prior to the night, the bar staff on the night were excellent and the food (Hotpot and Chilli) was exceptional. All our friends loved it. Would not hesitate to have a party there again.

Went for a cheeky Valentine lunch with the wife. First time eating there and would recommend it to anyone. We had garlic mushroom starter which was actually the best we have had. Sadly it meant I couldnt finish the amazing cheeseburger I had chosen for my main. The staff couldnt do enough for us and we thank you.

Pub was extremely quiet...shame...no office workers in work presumably due to covid....so not lunching out. Took our contact details immediately. Mask to be worn until food or drink came. Veggie falafel burger was tasty and I'm a chip fan...10 out of 10 for chips. Staff very friendly. Lovely place...nice outside seating area too for those braving the chilly, sunny day

I like the bar but we hired the board room upstairs and were quite disappointed with the general technology setup - the Wi-Fi was useless meaning we couldn't stream two simple 4 minute videos as part of a presentation and the serial connector didn't connect to the TV properly so we couldn't hook up the laptop. We eventually managed with a very blurry projector for the presentation but it isn't ideal at all. So as far as the pub is concerned it is great, if you're renting a meeting room I wouldn't recommend unless you don't have a need to present on a TV/projector.

They now have an enlarged indoor area with a pool table, and will soon have an Indian restaurant operating from the back room area where the pool table used to be. Should be serving curry from November 2020, which will be a great addition to the village.

Turned up on a very sunny Saturday afternoon with no booking. The lady at the front greeting us was great. Sat us inside as no seats were available in the garden, but within 10 mins we got an outside table that came available. Very organised. Lovely pub with a wonderful beer garden on the canal. The table service was excellent. Staff constantly walking about, so waiting for drinks was literally few minutes only. Will definitely be going back to try the food.

I’m a regular but infrequent visitor here for a few warm-up pints and a meal before going to the Manchester Beer Festival nearby. The Lees beers are excellent, food is very good and the decor is traditional English pub - dark wood everywhere. As this is a mid-day visit it’s half full, so it might not be the typical experience for a Friday evening pint. Outdoor area looks great, but not terribly tempting in January. For some reason I didn’t go there this year, hopefully I can arrange something with my local friends.

Great atmosphere, and staff. Didnt sample the food but from what i saw around me looked great. Tbh i would prefer more of a selection of draught, but the guinness and jw lees craft lager were tasty

Lovely place. I spent an entire afternoon here withy friends drinking beers. The location has a real British atmosphere. You can drink and eat, inside and outside, so they have a lot of space and seats. We went there in a quite Thursday afternoon and it was a bit crowded. I think in the weekend it could be better to book a table.

Rain Bar played host to a wedding I attended, it turned out to be a great place for it. Lovely smallish "board room" upstairs for the ceremony and private use of the upstairs bar. Nice food too. J W Lees beer, so it may or may not be to your taste, personally I prefer a Robbies. Canalside location with plenty of space outside so good in sunny weather. McDonald's just down the road if you don't fancy the pub grub!

Met up with some friends here during the day on a Saturday - was busy and the music was playing very loudly, which made it hard to hear one another. Not the best selection of non-alcoholic drinks either, just coke or lemonade. Most places nowadays have a few other choices or even some mocktails. Regardless, wouldn't give it a negative review on those grounds; I would prefer somewhere with a more relaxing atmosphere but that's just personal preference. They have a beer garden which is difficult to find so close to the city centre.

Was attending an event organised by a large accounting firm. They had taken over the upper floor room for a wide variety of drinks plus food spread. Rain Bar is located on the Manchester Canal ways and that makes it pretty unique within its setting in the area it operates. It's a popular place and it proved to be a very enjoyable plus joyful evening alongside familiar business contacts plus plus other attendees amongst which was a very skillful magician with a few tricks up his sleeve! Overall a great night out.

Only stopped off here for a brief drink, it used to have a great atmosphere a few years ago not now dull, scruffy and the bar staff are pretty uninterested in anything apart from hugging and ķissing each other and generally looking down their noses at us clientele..as I have witnessed on the last couple of visits. Will not be visiting again and I know quite a few people that feel the same.

Been here a few times recently because it's been that good. They're currently doing mulled wine with rum which is delicious! Very Christmasy vibes, especially sat by the fire in the beautifully decorated corner room drinking mulled wine. There's also a disabled toilet on the same floor which I was relieved to discover as the other toilets are down quite a few stairs, so the staff were very friendly and helpful whenever I needed them to open it.

Visited Rain Bar for pre-concert food and drinks last night. Service was great (thank you Ursula!) and the fish and chips was excellent, and great value in my opinion. In fact, everything coming out of the kitchen looked amazing, so will be back soon to try one of the home-made pot pies.

Great place to celebrate an event. We went upstairs for an engagement party. Lovely feel to thee place. Food was spot on, and drink prices weren't too bad. The only downside was a rude, miserable barmaid who spoke to me like I was dirt in front of my daughter.

Attended a wedding reception there, so we were in the upstairs bar. Staff were friendly and service was great. The lighting was really nice in the beams etc and there is a good sized outdoor area, overlooking the canal. Really nice place.

The Rain Bar. Nice place & busy. Then it went wrong, We ordered food for 4 of us, girl who took our orders did not have a clue what she was doing ,it took 8 attempts to pay by card on there machines because all the machines did not work. Food came out at different times and we had to ask to warm some of it and would say food was tasteless.

Always love this place, both out of peak time and in peak time. JW lees bar/pub, always nice has a atmosphere, friendly, has a nice outside little area next to the Manchester locks, has a good selection of drink both on tap/draft/barrel/spirits can't fault the place. Given it 5 stars on the fact it's closer to a real pub that's a bit more modern rather than an old school pub or a posh new "pub". Speaks Manchester if I'm honest.

Went here for my Graduation lunch (dinner to us in the north). Absolutely delicious. Fish finger bap is a must. Gujons beautifully cooked and seasoned. Bread fresh and good quality. Side of greens with lovely earthy satisfying flavours, I could eat this on its own. A gem in Manchester.

I haven't been in this bar for 20+ years. We went for lunch. I had a small fish and chips. It was quite a big piece of fish. Very nice with big chips and mushy peas. I also had a pint of J.W. Lees bitter, my first pint of bitter in the UK for over three and a half years. I enjoyed it. The service was good. There weren't many people in so atmosphere wasn't great.

Great venue for a warm summer's evening. Bar staff efficient at getting people served despite how busy they were. Manchester Lager was just what I needed. Nice and cold and better than your standard lager offerings for someone who would usually prefer a "beer" Prices are steep for JWL but it is city centre and next to the canal. The beer garden is the place to be in Mancunia on a warm evening Can't fault it really.

Nice place inside but after my partner and I went in to try the Sunday roast this past weekend due to the offer of bottomless Yorkshire puddings, we both got food poisoning! It’s now Thursday and we are still suffering. Avoid!!!

We had our wedding reception here on the 8th July 2023 and we were bowled over! It was all absolutely amazing! Sarah was an especial help throughout (since we contacted her first in May 2022) and answered all of our questions and concerns with professionalism and kindness. Alex also helped coordinate closer to the time and they were both absolute gems on the day, as were all of the staff! We couldn’t have asked for or expected better. Our guests all commented on how great the food was (most people said it was the best wedding meal they ever had, and my husband and I certainly concur!), there was an array of drinks on offer, the room looked amazing, everything was handled swiftly and efficiently. We were able to drop in our decorations the day before and were allowed in early to set up the room, and they kept all of our things safely for us to collect the following day. We would absolutely recommend Rain Bar for anyone looking for a venue for any event.

Nice pub with a nice outdoor seating area. Prices are as expected for Manchester centre. My food (steak 8oz) was poor. A good third of it was gristle. Don't think I'll dine here again. Still bloody starving when I left. Had to call in to Tesco express on the way home. And the food ain't cheap either.

Great place to be on a sunny day. There’s shade and sunny spots to sit in. Nice tables inside too. We didn’t eat as we had booked in elsewhere but the food looked fab, will definitely go back. My partner tried the Manchester Lager and absolutely loved it. Would definitely return when next in Manchester town centre.

I had my 50th birthday party at the Rain Bar in the function room in early September 2023. It was all very easy to arrange with Alex and his team. We had our own music played through the room speakers, and a slide show on the TVs. The function room is a great venue with its own bar and terrace (overlooking the canal), with easy access to toilets. We had great weather so guests spent a lot of time outside. We had the buffet which was very good and plentiful (one of the guests went back for 3rds which definitely means something). The staff on the night were very helpful and friendly. Plenty of variety of drinks at the bar. I would certainly recommend to hire.

Best bar I've come across in Manchester. Visiting for a concert at the Bridgewater Hall, the pub is like a 60 second walk from it. Beautiful beer garden, great staff and the Manchester craft lager is lovely. Cant recommend enough. Will be back.

Had an excellent afternoon here sitting outside in the sunshine. The place is a bit of history sympathetically brought up to date. The drinks (J W Lees) were great, the food was good and the service was friendly. Recommended

Booked a table for 6 sat lunch time - food was excellent and good prices. The service was great - the waitress looked after us and checked in on us for drinks etc and we weren't rushed. Will defo visit again. One member of party had allergies and they were very keen to make sure everything was OK and we're very thorough

It's was quiet when we went on a Monday evening. The staff were great, very friendly and really lovely. The food was 'pub grub' but it was cooked to perfection, tasty and just excellent.

Excellent bar service and always a good friendly atmosphere about the place. A regular, convenient meeting place with friends. The Gent's was in good nick too. A bit pricey, but I suppose that's the norm these days!

Had a work Xmas do, here on the top floor. The atmosphere was great, drink prices were not so bad. The only reason for 4 stars, was the lack of seating for 50+ us.

👍👍 I was craving curry during my stay in Manchester. And Google suggested this place to me. It's in the centre, almost 6 minutes away from my hotel. The interior design is very hip and it has a great vibe. The music that is being played is modern. The curry was amazing. And the prices were perfect for...
