Overall an awful experience. My wife and i arrived early for an 8 pm dinner booking, we were shown through to the bar to wait with a drink. The barman was polite and chatty, drinks were a little on the pricey side but nothing too alarming. After 15 or so minutes the barman told us to return to the reception area to wait for our table but were ignored completely by staff there. Eventually we weโ€™re ushered back to the bar to wait, but not five minutes later we were taken upstairs to our table. It took about 10 minutes to be given menus and another 10 for our order to be taken. The table opposite were just leaving and a member of their party warned us sheโ€™d been waiting almost an hour for something to eat. After another 40 minutes of waiting our food was brought out, disappointingly no starters, instead it was the main course. We sent these back and explained that we hadnโ€™t yet had our starters. The staff were frankly rude, they made no apology and turned back to the kitchen without saying a word to us, offering instead only a bemused look and shrugged shoulders. Our starters arrived 10 minutes later and were very pleasant, the dirty plates were cleared swiftly. Things were looking up we thought.. Our mains came up, again, after little more than five minutes and were clearly the same we had been served initially but kept warm. I had fish and chips and my wife had a calzone, hers was quite small and burned. Mine was vile, the lovely golden batter that arrived in the first place was now a dark brown and dry, as was the fish. My chips were over cooked and dry, the mushy peas had developed a white film on top from the re warming and the slice of lemon it was served with was actually charred and black along the side. We sent this all back as it was virtually inedible, but to begin with no apologies were offered. Finally a manager came up, examined the meals and argued the toss that our food hadnโ€™t been kept on a hotplate. To be honest the food was disappointing but the service was appalling. We both felt uncomfortable from the outset and were not made to feel welcome nor valued as customers. As a final insult the gentโ€™s toilet was disgusting. This was a pub Iโ€™d wanted to try for a while, i wish that I hadnโ€™t bothered.

Pizzas are great and highly recommended! A superb and versatile restaurant where you can have a casual pizza and a pint or if you prefer you can have a more upmarket dining experience with fresh Derbyshire produce. I only wish I lived a bit closer to be able to make it my go to restaurant!

What a lovely find as we didn't no the area at all as on holiday but was recommended it by family member who lives up there!!so glad we went we were seated in the conservatory area which was bright and airy with good distancing from each table !!we all had starters which were super tasty then main courses again you could taste all the fresh ingredients so well!!really well presented on the plate too !!we even managed to have puddings too even tho we were full up they were just to tempting!! If back in the area again we would definitely go back again

Just had a very strange dining experience. Was really impressed when we arrived. A very warm welcome and very happy with the table. All looking good. So I ordered the crispy beef teriyaki. Really good sized portion and so tasty. I was slightly concerned that if this was the starter how big would my main be. I shouldn't have. It was really small. 1 very small fillet of sea bass for nearly ยฃ30. Don't get me wrong it was really good but it was far too small. And then my little one asked for a taste I gave her a fork full which was a quarter of my fish. So I order desert. Raspberry savarin. The savarin hadn't been soaked so was really dry and heavy. Bill came and my 2 large glassed of Rosรฉ came to just short of ยฃ40. I clearly didn't check that properly. So it started out with much optimism and just slid away.

I had wanted to try out this gastropub for some time and spend a few squid on some top notch food. Well it does not disappoint ! Its clearly popular and busy, the ambiance of the place is very inviting, comfortable and the many staff very attentive and helpful. We had some calamari and garlic bread to start with and share, the garlic bread was amazing and reminiscent of the garlic butter found in french escargots, rich and delicious. The calamari was served with some lovely tartare sauce and hit the spot. Followed the fish of the day and sea vegetables. Flaky cod cooked to perfection, tons of flavours yet subtle and balanced. The famous fish and chips was beautiful and executed perfectly. Nothing more to add, it did what it said on the tin. Perfect. Now then for the spatchcocked chicken and chips (+ spicy slaw). This was simply "the best chicken I ever had" said my daughter. Moist and melt in the mouth texture with just the right hint of thyme and lemon and a touch of smoky flavours. It fell off the bone and clearly had a huge amount of attention to details in the execution. Simple food executed as it should. We ran out of steam for dessert and shall be back in the pub section to try some out!. Many thanks to all staff and chefs, this is a must to visit and a box ticked (tickled? ;-)) Until next time.

We stayed at the holiday cottages for a weekend which were perfect for exploring the area and had everything you could need. We booked a table for the Saturday evening in the pub as there were 2 birthday celebrations in our group. Wow the food was absolutely spot on, everyone enjoyed their choice, the raspberry sorbet especially was fantastic. We had a faultless meal and great service was great. Highly recommended, we will be back!!

I had a lovely meal on 29/01/2022 (well it was quite a few meals โ€œtapas styleโ€). We booked for a party of 4 and weโ€™re greeted by warm and friendly staff as we entered. The whole experience was excellent and the food was delicious ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ The best we have had in a long time eating out and the Arancini balls were my favourite. The food arrived promptly and the staff were very attentive. Katie and Alex were excellent hosts and were so bubbly and friendly throughout our meal. They are naturals, they made us laugh and were so kind and genuine, they made us feel relaxed. Thank you for such a lovely experience. We will be back

We booked the room upstairs for my mums 50th, the service was great, the room was fab for what we wanted. Food was beautiful, everyone was so thrilled with their food that we talked about it majority of our time there, everyone was trying each others meals. And the dessert.. wow! Brilliant, would definitely go back. Thank you!

Can't praise the staff or food enough. First time we have eaten in there and certainly won't be the last. Fantastic vegetarian options, was actually nice to go somewhere the chef had put so much effort into catering for vegetarian's.

Every THING was amazing! A whole menu of gluten free options is unheard of! The gluten free fish and chips with garden peas was crunchy, fresh and freshly made. The homemade tartare sauce enhanced the flavor. The raspberry sorbet did not disappoint either. Nicole, our server, was courteous, friendly and knowledgeable in what she served. If only I lived closer to come often.

Thoroughly enjoyable lunch today, beautiful pub with a scrumptious menu. The kitchen were very accommodating when I ask to a bit of a change to my order and it was beyond delicious! The pub was very clean and tidy and the staff all looked very presentable, Iโ€™d definitely recommend!

What a find! Lovely place and disabled friendly for my mother in law, placed us at a table that was near the loos away from too much noise and had space to park her walker. The food was immense, best chips I've had in a long while and loved the Derbyshire rarebit and cheeseboard (you can never have too much cheese). Thank you for looking after us :)

First visit here but certainly wonโ€™t be the last. Met with the warmth and smell of a wood fire as we came in from a cold & wet afternoon. Nice circular table in the corner we were soon enjoying some red wine and a couple of pints of Timothy Taylorโ€™s. A great menu to choose from, the calzone pizzas were excellent (although mine was served in a cold plate) and the sticky toffee pudding was superb. We will be back

Last minute booking, but they were able to accommodate us, food excellent, good value for money with lovely friendly staff. Wee bit of a wait, but not excessive. Lounge area dog friendly, even for my giant boy and waitress brought Sam his own water bowl and offered us free dog biscuits from the jars by the dog water station. Woukd definitely visut again next time we're in the area

Lovely cosy atmosphere, the log burner was lit and the Christmas Dec's were up. The Sunday roast was amazing, the beef was beautifully cooked. The staff were friendly and really helpful about gluten free options. Great meal

Sadly it was for a family funeral. First time we have been, but the food they did for us was very good and the place was lovely too. Staff very helpful, replenishing food as it got eaten. The menu for food was very good too, will visit at some point when in that area.

Booked in for lunch today, the food was gorgeous and very well presented. The service from the staff was first class, will be booking again and would also recommend The Tickled Trout to friends and family.

Mediocre at best. Food not freshly cooked. Would not consider this place a gastro experience by any stretch. Have had better fish and chips for 6 quid from a local chippy. Service reasonable but other than that not good. First time I've ever put a review on for anything which should tell you all you need to know I guess.

Well what can I say, the workers that work there seem to enjoy what they do, and that flows into the way they treat the customers, great place to eat or drink, I have been there eight times and I am looking forward to the next time ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Went there for my dogs' 1st birthday. The food was exceptional! The staff were very kind and helpful. We had the pleasure to meet the owner, who is also the chef of the pub. What a guy! He gave me a birthday card for Otis! Thank you all! We had a lovely time!

What can I say. Simply awesome! We read a super detailed negative review that had us questioning our booking, but we took it with a pinch of salt & how glad we are! A party of 4, we have enjoyed every single aspect of our evening. Extremely quick and friendly service without feeling rushed. The decor and atmosphere are lovely. The food was outstanding. I opted for the chicken burger followed by the Panna Cotta & it was beautiful. The servers were all attentive & friendly, especially the Greek chap whose name I did not catch, but who made our experience all the better. We were staying at a nearby caravan site & are already planning a return trip, solely to come back here again ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜

My husband and I booked a table for our anniversary. Staff were polite and helpful and we bought a drink at the bar and were shown to our table. It was quite a while before anyone came to take our order but that wasnโ€™t really an issue. My husband had the fish and chips which he enjoyed. Unfortunately I chose the day boat fish which was plaice. The meal was well presented albeit a bit sparse on veg but the small piece of fish was full of bones, which I hadnโ€™t expected with plaice. I had avoided the trout for that very reason. Clearly I made the wrong choice but at a cost of ยฃ25+ I was very disappointed.

My son took out for Sunday lunch, it was my birthday. Both of us had not been here before. All the staff were very pleasant, smiling nothing was a bother. The food was amazing , my son took photos of the meal ,sent it to his partner. He also asked to shake the chefs hand. All veg is grown at the TT meat bought from local farms. I even got a free drink off the chef an all staff. Amazing place an staff unbelievable Thank you all for making my visit a bit special... xx

Really loved the food great atmosphere lovely staff can fault this place....but I ordered a beef Sunday lunch far too much beef on my plate....I say plate it was more like a pasta dish and found it difficult to cut my meat up and couldn't eat it all. The vegetables were cooked to perfection but the mashed potatoes were more like a puree and I didn't like that. It's a shame really because it was really flavoursome food they just need to cut back on the meat it's just too much. And maybe cut the price down too!

our first visit to this very popular venue. we visited as a group of 4 adults. staff were extremely friendly and helpful. drinks were served quickly. Starters were pretty good and very well presented. the roast pork was a little fatty but tasty and the beef was very tasty but a little tough for my liking. not very much in the way of vegetables, although you did have the option to order more. seating was in a light and airy conservatory room and there was further seating on the first floor. we felt that prices were a little on the high side but overall we enjoyed it and will more than likely make a return visit in the future.

Great food and good value. Visited with a group of five and we were seated around a round table in the corner which was a good spot and not too noisy. Service was friendly and helpful. Pork pie for starter is worth a try - best pork pie I've tasted.

What an amazing evening we had! Gorgeous pub, excellent food and fantastic staff. We couldn't have asked for more. We have a dog and we were able to sit in the main bar area to eat and they even brought Dexter his own water bowl. Our waitress was Katie was outstanding.... Brought a new level to service with a smile. Thank you to everyone at The Tickled Trout, we are looking forward to our next visit ๐Ÿ˜

Disappointing service, maybe we caught an off-day (there seemed to be an argument amongst the serving staff!) Food was okay, though the exciting looking chocolate drink on Google reviews is no longer available. Our order was a bit messed up and arrived in stages. Food was okay but quite pricey for what it was. (In answer to the response below, we visited The Tickled Trout in Dronfield. The chocolate drink โ€” which we were told at the time was not on the menu โ€” appears in the Google photos linked to this restaurant. Perhaps the restaurant has no control over photos people post, am therefore warning readers that they shouldnโ€™t necessarily assume everything shown is available.)
