Arrived and just wanted a drink before deciding if we wanted to eat there or not. Pushy rude restaurant manager mumped and moaned and insisted we book in immediately.... left me with a bad taste so regardless how the meal was I was always going to be hard to please. Food was ok, on the higher end of pricing but they have a captive audience from the hotel. Not impressed enough to ever return.

It's alright. The Sunday dinner is average and the vegetables (cauliflower and carrots) are too hard/raw. Service is OK and the food comes out quick. Prawn cocktail is 90% lettuce and is about £3.50 overpriced. The dessert was nice, as was the mushroom risotto although it was a bit rich. It was fine but I was expecting more. I wouldn't recommend coming for Sunday dinner as you can get better for cheaper elsewhere, but it's a nice place... maybe the weekday menu is better.

One of the nicest Caesar salads I have ever had. The prawn cocktail was delicious too. Love the presentation

The Sunday Dinner menu is the Sunday lunch one. We started with the Mushroom soup, which was spicy and tasted strongly of fennel. My wife couldn't eat hers (cancelled off the bill) but I struggled through mine. She had the roast lamb dinner, but her lamb was tough. I had the trio of meats roast dinner, with beef, pork & gammon. My meat was tender and the gammon was not salty. The roast potatoes were like bullets and inedible. The Yorkshire Pudding and vegetables were fine. I had the Eton Mess Sundae, which was ok, but had too much cream. Monday breakfast was not great. The orange juice was fresh and great and the kipper was huge, tasty and hot. However, the muffin that I had was stale. Also they had run out of some breakfast ingredients like salmon and bacon. The coffee machine initially was not working, as it had run out of coffee beans. The croissants were pre-packed shop ones, individually wrapped and nor freshly baked. All in all, very disappointing for a 4-star establishment.

Loved this place. Great atmosphere and relaxing and comfortable. Great aesthetic inside and out. Dog friendly inside and out. Bowl of water was brought straight over when we sat down. We sat inside. The food was excellent. Staff friendly. Did I mention dog friendly. Right behind Beamish Hall Hotel. Also next to Beamish museum. Free parking. Beautiful grounds. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely evening. Great service and delicious food. We had booked our table for later in the evening but arrived early and the lovely restaurant manager fitted us in and gave us a table early. The food was absolutely delicious. Thai chicken cakes & Moules starters, mutton tagine & seabass mains followed by mango panda cotta & Cheeseboard. Good bottle of house red to wash it down. Very attentive waitress, pre- empting extra Crockery, cutlary, ice etc before having to ask for them. Can definitely recommend and looking forward to going back. Staying at Beamish Hall overnight which is also really nice.

It's been so long since I was last here, well before lockdown. The place had the same feel, nice courtyard if you want to enjoy a drink outside and lovely decor inside, very inkeeping with the buildings original use. Staff greeted us on arrival & were very friendly and polite throughout our visit too. Unfortunately they no longer have their own onsite brewery and therefore their own beers are no longer available, I was devastated. They do keep other real ales/handpull but it's not the same. I was with family today, there were 5 of us. I booked a table on line, which was remarkably easy, I even amended the booking to change our arrival time, which again was hassle free. Apart from myself and dad, everyone went for fish and chips. We were all amazed at the portion size and everyone enjoyed it although the food took +half an hour to arrive. I went for a philly Cheese steak panini with fries which was Iovely and just enough. Dad went for a ham n cheese sandwich with chips, he enjoyed but I think he was looking at my panini

My wife and I went for a meal here on a dinner bed breakfast deal at The Beamish Hotel. It was excellent, the food was divine. I had large prawns cooked in garlic with a dipping sauce of spring onions, garlic, coriander and oil, to say "tasty" doesn't do it justice. I would highly recommend this restaurant as all the food was of a good standard. The breakfast was a good start to the day and so fresh. Try it for yourselves, you won't be disappointed.

You know those places you eat and you're forever waiting for service, drunks and food? This place is the opposite. Speedy service, attentive staff, and good food and beers.

Extremely accomedating for allergies. Visited both for breakfast and dinner while staying at the hotel. Lots to choose from at the breakfast self serving station with a hot meal for every guest. The bar and restaurant had a lovely atmosphere at night time to chill out after a long day.

We attended the restaurant for our annual visit to the lights At Christmas. Last year the food and service were brilliant. We attended this year, the restaurant looked rather empty so we assumed that the service would be quick and efficient. We arrived in two parties, one arriving later. We ordered food and then our deco party arrived 20 minutes later. They ordered their food. The food for the second party came within 10 minutes where the initial order came 30 minutes later. After several mix ups and prompting to the staff that we were going to be late to our tour we finally got to the end of our meal 2 hours 15 minutes later. If the restaurant was busy, I’d understand but the place was dead. The service was so bad at one point I had to go and source our own cutlery. We spoke to the manager who was very rude, advised that it was not his fault and suggested it was our error. I have never seen such appalling manners and service. The food was ok, but the quality did not match the price, and it was a little cold by the time we got it. What a stressful start to the evening, but thankfully the rest of the light show was great.

This is probably the best restaurant in the area. It looks very nice inside and out. The staff are lovely, very attentive. The food was gorgeous, I had the chicken Caesar salad, which was massive. The prices are totally acceptable and it’s comfortable seating. The car park is a bit rough; stoney and muddy in parts. But that’s fine, the venue is pretty. I’ve been here a couple of times with my family and will continue to, ideal for small gatherings and catch-ups.

First time visiting and pretty underwhelmed. My wife found a piece of metal filing in her soup and my starter was nice on paper but pretty bland then my main came out cold and had to ask 3 times for cutlery to eat my food . Lovely hotel but the restaurant needs major improvements we were given a round of drinks for free which I thank them for but for such a high end restaurant it needs a serious review of quality

Beautiful outdoor terrace for al fresco dining leads into the indoor dining tastefully done throughout. Staff so polite and friendly well informed on the dishes no longer available before you broused over the menu. The food from starters through main to dessert, amazingly presented and tasted delicious

Sunday lunch for four people on mothering Sunday came to £105. That was for four Sunday lunches, three desserts and a drink each. The staff were very helpful, friendly and extremely polite. If they don't know an answer to something they'll gladly find out for you. The veg was spot on, the gravy was absolutely delicious and extra vegetables were provided free of charge. With several warm fires crackling and fantastic choice of vegetarian food as well as amazing cocktails we struggled to find wrong anything at all. As a treat this place was well worth a visit.

Blonde girl on the bar - appalling - totally ignored me, didn't even say thank you/smile/please and served two people who were waiting after me. Then spent the entire afternoon glaring at us. Ordered two drinks which were eventually dumped down in front of me. We had reserved a table for a meal, but I cancelled it and we left. Seems like more negative reviews are coming up here unfortunately, which is a shame as it's a stunning building. Service always lets these places down.

Booked and visited new years eve, couldn't fault the food, huge portions. I expected a little more finesse with it being new years eve but it was just the standard Sunday lunch menu (our table was 6.30) We ordered 2x kids menus, 2 glasses of wine, 1 beer, 2 kids soft drinks and 2 adult starters and mains. With a small tip it came to £120.

We had a birthday celabratory meal 5 adults with 2 kids and it was hassle free. Best beef roast I've had in a restaurant for a while! Cooked to perfection and so soft! Coffee was good too. Only niggle.. we like our gravy a tad thicker and bit more flavour but roasties and mash were spot on. Service was attentive and faultless. Location is beautiful and we often visit in summer for walks!

Another one of our impromptu visits and was happily surprised by the food. Wife ordered a starter of mussels and we both thought we accidentally ordered the main because of the sheer size that in itself is a bonus (can never have enough right?) Hopefully photos do it justice but my steak sandwich was just so yummy All round delicious

Lovely location, bar/restaurant is located in the old stable block of Beamish Hall. Nice atmosphere..went for Sunday Lunch with family, we had the nut cutlet, gammon and also beef plenty vegetables and extra gravy was provided if asked for. Only downside was that the beef was more like a steak and quite tough. However staff were very nice and service was good

I was treated to afternoon tea here at the Stables Bar and Restaurant. It was just delicious . I had the vegan afternoon tea and there was 3 sandwiches, a sausage roll , 3 cakes and 2 scones with jam and clotted cream. A coffee pot to myself and we all enjoyed what we had. It was December and so it all was very festive. Hope to go again one day.

Had a lovely family get together. Everyone enjoyed the food. Staff were attentive and professional and served with politeness and smiles. Any queries were dealt with to ensure a smooth, relaxing afternoon. Drinks were also varied and of a high standard. Picked the perfect place for our celebration.

Reviewed as part of a dinner, bed and breakfast deal. The Stables is set in a beautiful location, if it’s sunny then the courtyard is a wonderful place to sit with a couple of drinks. Inside is also very cozy. We are local, so have visited here many times in the past, before lockdown. I will get my ‘negatives’ out of the way first, as these are more personal and may not be of huge help to others. In the past, I have loved the various boxes of scrumpy type cider on offer here…. this time I was disappointed to only have Magners, Strongbow or a huge array of fruit ciders to choose from (which I’m not overly keen on). My husband was disappointed that the microbrewery didn’t seem to be brewing any more. He was looking forward to a Silver Buckles after our walk. The ‘positives’. The menu at the Stables quite literally has something for everyone and it is very well labelled for anyone with dietary requirements. I found, with my food intolerances (I need gluten free vegan to cover everything), the staff went above and beyond to accommodate. We got a 3 course meal with our package, which included all items from the normal menu - everything brought out to us was beautifully presented and tasted nice. Breakfast, again with my awkward dietary requirements, was well accommodated. The chef put together an amazing, filling plate of goodness. I was quite literally taken aback by what appeared in front of me. My husband enjoyed his full English also. A great dining experience, for us only let down by drinks. Other than that I would rate 5 stars.

Second time trying this restaurant. First off, the choice of food is poor at best when you do not eat pork. First time there I ordered the duck. Waited 45 mins to be served duck with bacon! Asked the waiter to let me check the menu again as I thought I might have misread it...No I had made no reading mistake, they did add pork to the meal without any notice. The waiter offered the dessert and still tried to charge us for the untouched main. My husband meal was mediocre. The quality does not match the prices they're charging. Second time there, we decided to walk out after 1hr30 of wait for the main and seeing every table around getting their food although people arrived after us. No apology were offered. On the contrary, waitress tried to justify it. Will not be returning there as this seems to be standard practice. Also worth mentioning that we were there with my sick mother and newborn so it would have been nice for the staff to actually pay some attention. Overall awful restaurant, awful staff and upsetting experience.

My family and I visited 4 adults 2 children and our pet dog we were shown to our tables , two tables as we are two households covif 19 rules so all good . We Ordered drinks and ask for a menu the children were very well behaved and sitting in the highchair is provided we were the only six in the entire building one of the staff members informed us that we were not allowed to speak to each other I explained we were in our family bubble he then informed us management were showing higher management around the venue and would we mind not speaking to each other how do I explain to my grandchildren who is two years old not to speak to me or to speak to their Nanna and grandad who was sitting on the other table I was absolutely appalled by this my husband to be said so you’re asking us to be quiet is that right and which your team member said yes . My partner and I are to be married and I’m looking for a wedding venue with no expense spared the venue we really did think this could be a possibility but now I am sorry to say I will never ever set foot in the place again we were all very disappointed my grandchildren were crying because we had spent the last three hours at Beamish museum and they were very hungry we had to leave but we managed to go to the South Causey Inn where can honestly say food was fantastic staff were fantastic and we all sat together .

Just had a lovely meal at the Stables. Very well organised, following pre-booking system. Would recommend. The staff were very nice, despite having to wear their uncomfortable face masks ; I hope they get hourly breaks to remove them for 10 minutes. We much appreciate the effort everyone is making as places are opening up again; it was great to get out.

This stay was a treat for my birthday. My wife and I stayed at Beamish Hall for the night, we had dinner bead and breakfast. The Stables staff where very friendly and it was advised to book a table to sit in the resterant, but the outside area was available without a reservation. What can I say, I would recommend a visit as it was a great time. Coleen was a great help, my apologies if I have your name wrong.

Fine. Pleasant staff, good beer and spirits selection, food was perfectly pleasant (vegan option either a standard chickpea curry or cauliflower steak) and the decor inoffensive. Just feels a bit corporate. Plus they insist on piping Ed Sheeran type music into the bar.

The salmon raclette was flavoursome and the capers were massive then the main course of beef dinner was cooked perfectly with great seasoned veg and a massive Yorkie. Friendly and professional service and although any delay was due to covid we were given our coffees for free. In addition to the great food and service this is a venue with a lot of grandeur and Theakstons bitter on tap highly recommend

Very very disappointing took our booking on the 50% off scheme then phoned us up the day before to say unfortunately the table there system had booked us on to didn’t exist It took us a while to get the six people in our party together to go for this meal they didn’t offer and alternative at all basically you can’t come we will look at a discount for next time We booked a couple of weeks later after the 50% off scheme manager was going to ring to speak about the discount what a surprise still waiting !!!!!!!!! Absolutely 100% rubbish service obviously just don’t care at all
