Greyfriars Bobby's Bar is a standout! Tried the salmon fish balls and steak pie, plus haggis, neeps, and tatties. Haggis was the highlight – delicious and savory. Quick service, nice atmosphere. No need to book ahead; walked in on a busy weekend during the Fringe Fest and had a great meal.

A friend and I stopped in for a coffee and a sweet treat a few weeks ago on a day trip to Edinburgh. We had sticky toffee pudding in mind (which we got, with custard...freaking amazing), but were distracted by a daily special of meringue and raspberry goodness in a dome (so we got that, too). The lady serving us was super friendly, and the place has a cute story about a dog (be sure to touch his nose outside the place). I'm including pictures of the meringue raspberry thing because never in my whole American life have I come that close to orgasm from a dessert. You're welcome.

An average experience in a beautiful city. Although the pub has been around for a very long time it’s lacking some of the higher service standards you would expect from this kind of establishment. At best I would say drop in for a pint but leave your meal to another pub.

Excellent place with traditional British food. One of the best fish and chips of Scotland. Also some great pie and cold beer.

I had my first haggis experience here. It tasted better than I had expected. Nice and friendly service. Good stop for a drink and snacks.

Bobby's bar is just outside the Grey friars church and visited is mid-week after a ghost tour. Nice bar with friendly staff. Although I didn't eat, friends did and the food looked good. It came quickly but it was fairly quiet. Friendly staff too.

It is a very cozy place, with a beautiful history behind it. My boyfriend and I had the famous pies of the place. I had the Fish pie, and my boyfriend had one with Haggis, like a classic meat pie. Both were good, but nothing spectacular. My boyfriend had a beer, and it was really good. The staff was very kind :)

Cozy local Scottish pub. Known for their homemade pies. We ordered the steak and pale ale pie, served with mash potato, steamed greens and carrots. Tasty, generous portion.

A warm and cozy place where we've enjoyed the best haggis, cranachan, and beer in town 😋😊... There is no Edinburgh without Greyfriars Bobby 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍🤗😁👋!

If I could give this place 10/5 I would - the food was fantastic and fresh. The staff were really welcoming and professional! We had the fish platter for starter, all of which was really fresh! I also had the crofter’s pie which was delicious! Would definitely recommend this pub to a friend!

5 stars for the food & vibe, but 3 stars for the service. Yes, it was on Boxing Day and it was jammed pack inside so will give them the benefit of the doubt. Will definitely be back for another try. Had a couple of their Famous Pies and they all were great!

Great pub to visit for a nice meal and a pint after visiting the worlds most loyal little dog. I came here a couple of times, once for a pint after visiting Bobby’s grave and then later on that night for dinner. The staff on both occasions were great and the food was really nice too! I’d definitely come back here the next time I’m in Edinburgh.

Wonderful food and service! It was even better than I had read about. I had the chicken and mushroom pie with mashed potatoes and gravy and the vegetables were perfectly cooked.A goal of mine while in Scotland was to try sticky toffee pudding and my mind was blown by theirs.I highly recommend this establishment!

This was one of the last meals had in Edinburgh. Friendly and charming place with a calming atmosphere and great food. It sits next to Greyfriar Bobby, a prominent commemorative statue of a Skye Terrier who became known in 19th-century Edinburgh for spending 14 years guarding the grave of his owner until he died on 14 January 1872.

Honestly one of the best pub meals ever! We were lucky to get a seat without booking, on an impromptu decision. Not so the folks trying just after us. It’s popular! I had the sausage and mash. Husband had the wild boar pie. Service was top class despite it being a Friday night and they were rushed off their feet.

It’s a fun and comfortable place to come and get some good Scottish food! Located near the museum and not far from the castle, it was a nice place to stop and grab a bite to eat.

Great service + staff very friendly and helpful with dietary restrictions. I got the puy lentil & vegetable cottage pie - 10/10 one of the best pies I've had. The only downfall is because it's a popular stop for tourism it can be hard to find a table.

The quality of food is satisfying. Don't expect Michelin star flavours, but service, prices and atmosphere make up for the food quality.

Greyfriars Bobby’s Bar is located in the heart of Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh in Candlemaker Row. As one of the most photographed pubs in Scotland, you’ll find us within a short stroll of Chambers Street, Grassmarket and George IV Bridge.

It was cold and raining, I would have liked to have a longer look around but I was soaked to the skin. Some very interesting gravestones, I loved the statue of the little dog... Greyfriers Bobby. #purplenanatravels

Wonderful pub. We walked in on New Years Day and was greeted by a lovely gentlemen who interacted with us most of the evening, providing a lovely service. Food was great, as Londoners the non-veggies of the group were keen to try haggis and it did not disappoint. Definitely recommend for a true Scottish pub experience.

Lovely historic pub in good central Edinburgh location. Extensive menu with some Scottish specialities - we had the steak and ale pie and the buttermilk chicken/avocado burger - both decent but not spectacular. Good pub atmosphere and decent beer on tap. Prompted us to look up the story of Greyfriar’s Bobby!

Great fish pie with vegetables and a white wine sauce. Several of their beers out but they recommended a great substitute. Cool history behind the establishment as well! Be sure to get a photo of Bobby on the way out!

We went here for dinner on our first night in Edinburgh because of the story of the dog Bobby. It was wonderful to see the statue and learn more about it, but the pub itself was a bit of a disappointment. The chef was finishing early so we were brought our starter and mains at the same time, and no opportunity to order a dessert. This was 8pm on a Friday night, so would have expected to be able to eat eithout the rush at that time. The staff were very friendly, but the service was quite slow. The food was okay, but nothing too special and the atmosphere was a bit dead. There are other better places to try scottish classics in the city.

Very endearingly named after a puppy, including a statue outside! We were too late for food when we first arrived, but went back the next day for a beer and a snack. The Mac and cheese was excellent, as were the broccoli and mushy peas. Good service, great place, warm vibes and an iconic dog!

Friendly staff. Very professional. We ordered steak pie and burger. The steak pie had gristle and fat and that puts me off looked good. Hubby said his burger was nice. The pub decor is nice olde worlde. I would drink here but not eat.

The food here was super tasty! The lentil pie was my favorite, and the apple pie delicious. Good veg options (and vegan). Plenty of meat too. I went here a few times during my stay in Edinburgh. I went with friends and I also went alone to eat and read- enjoyed both experiences. Staff was super friendly. Highly recommend!

Once I find one, I have a tendency to go to places with good food and service multiple times during the same trip, and Greyfriars Bobby’s Bar is one of those establishments. The staff is super nice, hard working, and they even remembered us from the previous visit. The drinks selections are good, and their food is just as tasty. Try the haggis and cullen sink here if you want to try it for the first time, you won’t be disappointed!

The food was great, loved the atmosphere, but the bartender asked us to leave so his friends could have a table...we weren't even finished with our meals and we were the most recently sat table. We were just kind of shocked that he was actually asking us to give up our table that we just paid, finished our drinks standing up and then left. I'm still surprised that happened. We were really enjoying the place though besides that. Our server was kind and attentive and the live music was wonderful! We had the haggis, neeps, and tatties which were delicious, and I had the salmon cakes for my main. The few bites I had were good, but I didn't get to finish even one whole cake. Would have been 5 stars if not for the rude bartender.

  • 5/5 Laura D. 10 months ago on Google
Great atmosphere and very good ales. The fish and chips were excellent (quite fast service too. Remember to order at the bar and tell them the table number you are at so they can find you when the food is done. The night I was there was pretty raucous, but fun.

Nice stop for a wind down during a day of touring. The story behind the bar is interesting, and the statue outside is a popular landmark. Don't forget to rub bobby's nose. The graveyard behind inspired several characters in the Harry Potter series as well.

A historical marker and a good place for Scottish food (and live music). We had two different pies and they were superb. We went at dinner time on a Saturday night and it was crowded, but we managed to find seats downstairs. Warning - restrooms are not accessible for wheelchairs or those who cannot navigate stairs.

One of our best meals in town! I was expecting a touristy-type average quality (not because of reviews or anything, just because it is so recognizable) but I was blown away with how AMAZING the food was! Very flavorful and very friendly service. We had the Lentil and Veg Pie and the Salmon Dill Cakes with potatoes. I would happily try EVERYTHING on their menu again. We will definitely come back on our next trip to Edinburgh.

Veggie approved! I was looking all over Edinburgh for a vegetarian Sunday roast. I could not believe how difficult that turned out to be! Luckily for me Greyfriars Bobby’s came through. They had a delicious nut roast bursting with flavor, roast carrots, parsnips, potatoes, crispy kale and a Yorkshire pudding. The entire meal was spectacular, my only critique would be the gravy was a little bland. I’d recommend adding a little red wine to give it that extra twist. My dad has his haggis (not pictured) and enjoyed that as well. The desserts were also good, but I think the main dishes were the best. I LOVED the elderflower cider and am hoping I can find it in a shop back in Oxford. It was very fruity and the elderflower was very strong. Overall a great meal and a nice location. I was glad to see that they had several interesting vegetarian (and I think one vegan) dishes. All too often veggie fare is typically a veggie burger or a salad, so it was nice to see some variety, and more importantly a good meal. I definitely recommend this place. It’s pretty regularly priced in my opinion, definitely not as cheap as Spoons but it’s not horribly expensive either. Thumbs up from me.

Nice little bit of history attached to the pub, found on our way to the museum and popped in for lunch, the Nicholson burger was very tasty, could tell it was made with fresh/high quality ingredients. My partner had the steak and ale pie which also went down a treat. Would highly recommend popping in for lunch/dinner nice friendly place to be

Giving this bar a 1 star and there is no option for a 0 star rating. WORST SERVICE- DO NOT GO HERE!!!! My friends and I came in today for a few drinks and snacks. We were seated very quickly, however the waitress took approximately 25 minutes until they came to take our order. After spending time taking our order, she then told us we would have to move to another area if we did not all order mains. I kindly asked if they could check if there was room for us in the other area as the bar was already very busy and we had been waiting a while already. The waitress responded very rudely and said ‘no, you can check yourself but you need to leave this area’. Very disappointing as the bar itself looks lovely- unfortunately the staff are very rude. Will never come back to this bar and will not be recommending anyone to go here EVER

A bit of Edinburgh nostalgia here at this bar and Restaurant. Plenty to choose from the menu and at reasonable price. My wife had Garlic Chicken and I had Rib eye Steak and both were very delicious. All kinds of drinks available, cask ales, lagers and spirits and coffee if you want. Very professional staff and helpful. Well worth a visit.

Welcome to the Most Haunted Graveyard in the World...Safety Not Guaranteed..:) The Greyfriars - is idyllic cemetery dating back to the 1560s...situated in the centre of Edinburgh Old Town and near to this Cemetery situated the Greyfriars Bobby's Bar, bringing the same name. The day visitors and the late-night visitors can sit, eat, drink here, between whispering headstones, listening the history of stolen bodies... Greyfriars Bobby's Bat is a beautiful place for a tranquil lucnh or dinner, just beware the ghosts...:) But before to go to eat visit the Greyfriars Bobby - a loyal dog that stood vigil over his deceased owner’s grave for 14 years. Anyway, take some good quality whisky, and don't be afraid :) In menu you can find the traditional Haggis, and other tipical local dishes. Enjoy the nice atmosphere of this special place.

A pint at last! Popped in for a drink around 5pm on Monday with a small group of five. None of us had been in before - it's usually very busy, especially with tourists in the summer. Started talking to one of the bar staff in the doorway and they had a couple of tables free so decided to go in and chose a table by the window at the front. Lovely pub, strange at first but quickly relaxed and got used to not wearing face coverings indoors! I would guess they're running at about half capacity, felt very spacious with the social distancing measures. None of us had been to a pub since lockdown began but the staff were extremely welcoming and quickly put us all at ease. I enjoyed my first cask ale in months, well, more than one. :) I should say that although we were lucky and walked in without a booking, they asked that next time we pre-book through their app. Two of our group used the bathroom and said it was extremely clean - not to be taken for granted in central Edinburgh! - but it is up one flight of stairs if that makes a difference to you. Can't really comment on the food as only had light bites but the fries and chips were good. I'll go back but it's also made me feel better about going out to pubs in general - strange times. Recommend.
