The restaurant has a lovely ambience. Although the dress code is strictly smart casual, I am not sure how enforced it is as I saw a man in shorts and slippers dining two tables away. The fine dining Indian food cooked here is prepped well and tastes fine. If you are looking for a good food with a refined dining experience, it will not disappoint. As far as looking for Indian cuisine pushed to its highest levels of sublime taste and tantalising the senses, it never reaches those heights so that is why it is just okay for me. Let's just say it is fine dining at its average.

Excellent restaurant, service, ambience and food. George was our waiter and he was very pleasant and helpful. It’s our absolute favourite restaurant in London, and hands-down best Indian food I’ve ever tried. The lamb biryani and butter chicken were heavenly, and the venison samosas were out of this world. Always would come to this place when in London and definitely recommend 💯

Very well presented, but needs some attention to details and replacing old and worn items. The staff are very friendly from the moment you walk in. The menue has good variety for vegetarian and none vegetarian food. Some items on the menue is Halal ( look for the H letter). Food was great but some dishes were extra spicy. Over all great experiences. With a high price tag the place was packed on a Wednesday.

Amazing food, best Indian food I've ever had. We went to dinner here for Christmas day,, and had a great time. All of the dishes we had were perfect, except for my duck which was a tad bit overcooked. Everything else was amazing and the service was very good. Would definitely come back.

Very fancy and luxurious place Staff were very friendly except the receptionist she was rude and unprofessional. I prefer you do an online booking rather than deal with her. We stayed at the bar side it was really awesome atmosphere. Portions quite small and expensive.

The best part of my visit—it hasn’t changed! my first visit to London in 2 years and revisiting the restaurant felt like I had never left. The tokri chaat is still the same delectable mix of veggies and springlings of ‘sev’ long thin strands of gram flour deep fried and pomegranate seeds. The afghan chicken tikka beats the everyday chicken malai tikka you may be used to. The lamb kebab—cooked tender so that it melts in your mouth was a welcome addition to the appetizers. The fish curry felt simple and flavorful while the piece de resistance remained the goat biryani—cooked with the right amount of masala and the tenderness of the goat enough to leave the rice mixture in your mouth a medley of flavors, spices, meat juices and basmati silkiness… A solid 4.2 stars!

A decent Indian cuisine fine dine place in the heart of London. Perfect for those special occasions that require well rounded dining experience including good “close to desi” food, “great” ambience and “decent” service. A little towards the dearer side, with an average vegetarian meal for 2 costing around £90-£100. Maybe I am an exception, but the service could be a bit better. I had to search for the right person to discuss my reservation. Didn’t see anyone coming promptly to assist me as I entered the premises.

The atmosphere is beautiful, perfect lighting with great ambience. The food was delicious! The starters were my favourite part of the meal. The tokri chaat has so many flavours that work so well with one another and I love how the pomegranate adds to the colour and gives it that extra texture. The crab cakes were perfect with the tamarind sauce that it came with, it was easy to bite into and as fishy as I was expecting. I had the prawn curry, which at first I felt could be more flavourful but to my surprise the more I had the more the flavour enhanced. The coconut and chilli came through. The prawns were perfect, big and juicy as I like and easy to break into with my naan. They really know how to make a good garlic naan. I also got the aloo tuk as a side, as I was craving some potatoes. These were extremely flavourful, could taste that chaat masala. The potatoes were amazingly soft on the inside and it had a nice crunch outside which was satisfying to bite into. Drinks - I opted for the mango lassi. This was my least favourite part of the meal due to the lassi being more on the sour side rather than sweet, however it is not mango season so can only blame the mangoes. I also tried the mango nojito which I prefer as I wanted a sweet drink, it was decorated with pomegranates and mint. I would highly recommended and would love to go back to try more.

Chutney Mary is a fine dine Indian restaurant. One has to make reservation beforehand. Walk-ins are perhaps not entertained. We went there for dinner and we were greeted and welcomed by their friendly staff, helped with our coats and escorted to the table. The serving staff was friendly, and recommended some dishes as we wanted to try house special meals. Starters: 5/5 We tried Tokri chaat and Chili glazed Paneer Tikka. Tokri Chaat is just outstanding. Main course: 3.5/5 We ordered Mawa Mewa Kofta Curry and Bengal Daal. Kofta was hard, dryish and daal wasn’t cooked well. Daal also had prominent taste of turmeric (which only happens, in my experience, when turmeric is not added to tadka. Can’t expect chefs of such highly regarded restaurants to not know/care about this) Roti/naan were good. Portion sizes are small, each adult needs at least one main dish. Desserts: We tried Payasam Brûlée and it was the most delicious dish on their menu, made to perfection. Can’t recommend enough. And finally, a really warm gesture when they served a decorated plate with a small cheese cake and a candle to celebrate my partner’s birthday.

Very very nice atmosphere. Food is really good. Worth for that price. Staff are really friendly and attentive. We had been to our anniversary. They gave us a private table room. And set up the room very beautifully. The staff explained every single dish we ordered. At the end they surprised us with a desert and wishing us on our anniversary. That was a really good gesture. I would highly recommend this place.

This restaurant is unique with its flavors, all the dishes we had where so good and different from other Indian cuisine. Full of aromatic spices , perfectly done. The Lamb Biryani was delicious and flavorful, the Lamb Curry is excellent. The starters we had ( Grilled Chicken Tikka , Venison Sumbosa ) is excellent. And ended with dessert (Gulab Jamun) , must try , had this dessert many times in many places, this is the best one i had . Also, the people working there are kind & helpful.

Without question, Chutney Mary create the best Indian cuisine in the UK. Great location with friendly staff. The meal was delicious and well presented. About £170 for a meal for two. Great atmosphere. 5 out of 5!

Fantastic Indian food and my favourite Indian restaurant. Beautifully decorated rooms with good bar and the excellent dishes include the chicken thighs, Golden Fried Prawns, Butter Chicken Curry, Hyderabadi Lamb Shank and kebab platter. Good set lunch menu and quieter than in the evening so good for a business lunch. It is pricey but the quality and presentation is outstanding.

Probably the best Indian food I've eaten in the nicest place. I had the business lunch which was £29/33 for 2 or 3 courses. The choice wasn't big but the food was great . A different level to most other Indian Restaurants. With a drink and service my bill was £48. A la carte a fair bit more. Considering the location, and that everything from the minute you walk in the door was of the highest quality, it's a reasonable price to pay. Worth saving up for.

Amazing Indian restaurant in London central zone. Best Indian food I have tried. The only low point is that the toilet for disabled people were not available for a long time and I had to take my mom to a lower level toilet. But the waiters were very polite and apologised few times. They were very kind and brought us a surprise cake for my husband birthday which made his day. Overall, I strongly recommend this place for Indian food and Indian atmosphere experience

This place is beautiful. It's in a fantastic location in the heart of one of London's most fashionable areas. It's dimensions are deceptive and theirs acres of space for a quiet business lunch or a big dinner party. The food is as you can imagine beautifully flavoured and presented. The only down side is the price. Enjoy it if you get the opportunity.

It’s good… but the portions are a little small. This is an upscale Indian without being pretentious. Definitely a solid place for parties and large tables. The cocktails were only okay, and don’t bother with dessert.

This restaurant was absolutely perfect. The food was amazing the atmosphere was very well created and the service was faultless. I took my boyfriend for his birthday and during conversation mentioned this to the manager and he surprised him with a free desert. This was my first time trying Indian food and I have to say the bar has been set very very high.

Simply exquisite! As vegetarians, it’s not that easy to find a good fine dining experience worth the cost! Chutney Mary’s menu - both food and drink, cover a range of tastes. They also have good vegan options! The portion sizes are also very good. The ambience is superb and the staff are friendly as well. Definitely recommend to anyone considering a fine dining experience in London!

I have come twice for private dining for family celebrations. It’s always been incredible. Food is one of the best for Indian food in London. And the service is incredible. I would recommend this private dining set up if you coming with very young children. We were served by the GMs son, for someone who is very young gave outstanding service. Overall it’s not baby friendly within the main restaurant no changing facilities and high chair etc.

The bar and lounge area is really good and creates a welcoming atmosphere. I loved the snacks tray which one can enjoy with drinks. The food is authentic and tasty great. It is perhaps the best Indian food I have had outside of India. Everything is up to speck and the staff is wonderful. The only reason I have not given a 5 star is that in the basement room where we had the private dinner, there was a bit of a leak in the roof and it was dripping, however they sorted it out after a while, which was a bit dampening experience. Otherwise the decor and everything else was just amazing.

Chutney Mary is phenomenal! We had the butter chicken main dish with butter naan and chili cheese naan. For the appetizer, we did the Jaipur lamb and afghani chicken tikka. The lamb and chicken were so tender, with excellent taste profile. Cooked perfectly. The butter chicken was very high quality - it was great, but we could use a bit more flavor. The chili cheese naan was much preferred to the regular butter naan. To finish, we had gold gulab jamun with vanilla ice cream, and it was absolutely perfect (coming from gulab jamun enthusiasts lol). The service and decor are high end and 5 star. Chicken and some lamb dishes are halal, as specifically marked on the menu.

Very tasty food but it’s geared toward the rich or the company card holder. There are other High end Indian restaurants that are geared toward more of a dinner experience with slightly better costs.

Took the In laws for lunch and were pleasantly surprised to locate this hidden gym in Mayfair, who accommodated us last minute due to another restaurant not having wheelchair access. The decor was warm and inviting and the staff welcomed us with a smile. Service was swift and the recommendations were perfect. The crab cakes, goat buriani and fried potatoes were the stand out favourites for me but everything we tried was exceptional. They even gave my niece a mango lassy to cool her tongue due to a bit of spice in her butter chicken. Definitely better than benares in my opinion

  • 5/5 Brian C. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent food and service. The food is traditional but really well made with an excellent balance of flavours and not too spicy - just as it should be. The Goan Green curry is addictive ! Service led by Ramni was exemplary.

Amazing Indian restaurant! The food is both delicious and beautifully presented, and the atmosphere inside is chic and classy. The staff is also very attentive from the moment you walk in (shoutout to the awesome doorman!) We ending up trying the tasting menu and it was absolutely perfect. Each round was better than the last, and it was a surprisingly filling amount of food in the end. This was one of those meals you don’t forget! Can’t wait until my next trip to London as this will surely be my first stop!

Chutney Mary's is one of Londons oldest Indian restaurants it is located in the heart of Mayfair literally opposite St. James place. The restaurant is nicely dressed up especially around this type of year with the autumn colored flowers outside. The service was really good with us being seated straight away and our drinks order being taken. I had no faults with the food as well perfectly balanced tastes - only thing is the naan portion is quite small. A great place for great Indian food in London!

Went there with for a family dinner. The atmosphere and the decorations were elegant and beautiful. However, the lights were really low to me, but I think it is just like any other luxury restaurant. It is very spacious, and the waiters were really kind and helpful. We asked them for recommendations, and we tried 5 types of appetisers and 3 types of main course. The appetisers were way more delicious than the main course full of flavours. The main course on the other side was below average, which was very shocking. Butter chicken was very thick. There were many tomatoes paste that you could taste it in every bite. For that really high price, they should do better than that and work on main courses. Good sides: Spacious Delicious Appetisers Friendly Staff Central London Parking Bad sides: Tasteless main courses Low lights Extremely high prices Need booking (sometimes especially holidays)

Nice little place the food is below average honestly for all the hype. The waiter we had was pretty friendly and nice but the hostess was a bit aggressive might be his personality but for that type of job he needs to work on his friendliness. The food is way over priced for the quality and taste not authentic at all. I gave it 4 stars because it was actually fine dinning and the staff did their job and the place was clean. The beg samosa and the shrimp cocktail were really nice and the chicken tandori The biryani was tastless

Not cheap, but absolutely the best curry I have ever tasted. Every dish my friend and I ordered was well presented and delicious. The meat was soft and tender, the sauces full of flavour and just the right level of spice \ heat. Elegant decor and attentive service. I can't fault it.

Likely the most posh Indian restaurant you'll ever set foot in. Very nicely done interior from bar to bathroom, and dining area. Lots of spaces for groups that offer a bit of privacy. Food was very tasty though portions can be a bit on the smaller side. We did find the staff to be a bit unresponsive as the restaurant became busier. Recommended.

The food was just incredible, some of the best Indian food I have ever tasted and the people I dined with agreed. No it's not the cheapest place to eat but they don't claim to be, this is a high end restaurant in an expensive area of the city so the price is relative. 10/10

We went up for the "early bird" menu of £35.00 for 2 courses. We didn't realise you had to pick from a set menu which was incredibly limited. We shared one "deal" menu and one main course from the table d'hote menu. The Biryani was absolutely.delicious and quite enough for 2 . Don't expect a " deal" . There really isn't one. You will have to pay extra for rice or Naan. The wine was delicious too . Go for a bottle rather than a glass! Would I go again?? It would have to be for a very very special occasion.

Chutney Mary takes topmost place in my list as best Indian fine dine restaurant in London. The food was really delicious and aromatic. Many of the dishes had fine notes of aromatic ingredients and had delicate flavours e.g Pepper Chicken and air fried kale with drizzle of sesame seeds and honey. The food is magical and served very well. I wonder the skills the chef has to prepare and serve such impeccable dishes. I would really love to learn how to cook these and if I had to do something more in my career then it would be the art of cuisine. Chutney Mary is such an inspiration. The staff were very courteous as well and service was fantastic. Thankyou so much to the chef, staff of Chutney Mary to make our day so much special. Will visit again, defo!

Do not go here if you are a group of young women, they will not take you seriously. A rushed experience with poor service and average, overpriced food… not fine dining. Our party of three went to Chutney Mary yesterday (Saturday 27 January) for dinner. My friend booked it for her 25th birthday and we had high expectations for what we thought would be a quality experience but turned out to be very average food with poor (verging on rude) service. I was ignored when I sat for ages without a menu. When my friends arrived, the waiter asked if we were ready to order, and we politely asked for two more minutes. He then got the manager to come to our table and tell us we had to order immediately because they wanted the table back at 9:15pm. Whilst I totally understand tables need to be cleared for other reservations, the manner in which this was done was distasteful and set a negative tone for the rest of the evening, as we felt rushed and as if their eyes were constantly on us. This is not what one expects from a fine dining restaurant where you should feel welcomed and relaxed, particularly as you are spending so much money. The lamb kebab is not a kebab. It’s just two overpriced pieces of lamb (ie not minced meat). Our two other starters - the paneer and chaat - were tasty. But you can get the same at any other Indian restaurant at a far more reasonable price. The dal makhani was nice, but we soon realised that it was FULL of oil. Whole puddles of oil on our plates. You’re better off going to Dishoom. We informed the restaurant it was our friend’s birthday. They kindly brought some chocolate ice cream for her, but the surprise was very much tampered by the fact that the waiter miserably lit the dessert at the table in front of her. We ordered masala tea to finish the evening. After 10 minutes, the manager told us there is none left because another party of 30 had consumed it all. We knew this was a bid to get rid of us so they could have the table back. The manager did not offer us anything else complimentary, knowing it’s a birthday celebration and we were visibly disappointed. A month ago we went to Gymkhana and we were given a free starter as an apology for something not being on the menu - that is real customer service. The bill was put on our table and we were pressured to leave. As three young Indian women, we felt consistently sidelined and not taken seriously. Very unprofessional.
