We normally go to the other Indian restaurant in Dalkeith but thought we would go here for a change. It was a midweek evening so we got a table no problem. My husband ordered chicken pakora starter which can only be described as weird, it was like minced chicken and came in 3 large burger looking blocks. I had a itahaas jingha which the king prawns were a bit over cooked however the sauce was delightful. Chicken Chilli massala and chicken bhuna for mains which were very nice served with garlic naan and rice. We had a look at deserts however settled for a sweet liquor and although we got doubles the restaurant kindly only charged us for singles. The service was a bit shambolic that evening in terms of we must have been asked about 15 times plus if everything was OK, I hadn't finished my wine or main and one of the waiters was checking if the wine bottle was empty. Felt like perhaps the staff wanted us to leave, maybe it was close to closing time? I'm not quite sure as there was another table still seated as we left. This made us feel a bit uncomfortable and normally we would sit and have a few drinks too but we left. The staff kindly boxed our dishes as we hadn't really had much of our mains. I would recommend that when serving a bottle of white wine perhaps some ice in the bottle of the chiller would be helpful. We have visited this place many times since its opened but unfortunately didn't really enjoy this evening in particular.

Friendly staff clean restaurant not to big or small just right size they do have a family room for bigger groups. the only thing I didn't understand was toilet Why pay so much attention in the restaurant but not the toilet's. definitely needs some attention. price wise very expensive I can't believe I paid £2.25 for cup of green tea wanted to order dessert but each dessert was for £4.95 food tasted very nice love my grilled chicken I do recommend it

Nothing in the menu deserves less than 5 stars…This classic restaurant knows how to serve your taste bud excellently…I have had most of their starter ; all types of pakoras…I have savoured all their special and chef dishes too…the apple juice is the best among the best I ever taste in my life…the owner and the whole crew of the restaurants also nailed it to the point you feel the welcoming vibe the moment you entered the restaurant…this will be my must visit restaurant everytime I come to Scotland… P/S: see how big was my smile the moment the food touched my taste bud…⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💥💥💥💥💥🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈

I give five stars because the overall experience was good. However after ordering a slice of red velvet cheesecake I overheard one of the waiters call us piggies. I gave a generous tip even though I was insulted. Also as I walked out thanked them for the service. Being my and friends first time visiting Scotland to be insulted. However if in Scotland again I would return but employees should be aware of what is said.

The food was great It is quite far from edinburgh City center But def should try once Alcohol is an option with your dinner The service was great but they should give a little more time for people to decide on their food and drinks because they have an extended menu and not everyone knows what they want and might be mostly their first time. We travelled 19 miles to try this restaurant, as we were impressed by google rating, but it was noting but abysmal. Tiny pretentious portions, massively over priced food as well as confusion among the staff about the food being halal or not. We ordered chicken Karahi and specifically asked for it to be mild-moderate spicy, but it turned out to be the most spiciest dish we had ever tried. Needless to say that we couldn't finish it. Tikka biryani was good but the sauce that came with it was way below average. The food being below the optimum was one thing, but the price was unimaginably high. We paid 46 pounds for one serving each of tikka biryani and chicken karahi, and two garlic nan along with a tiny glass of lemonade. Additionally upon asking to get the remaining food packed, (as understandably we couldn't finish even the tiny portions of worthless food), we were provided with disposable boxes, for us to pack the food ourselves on the table. We were charged for these boxes separately. Ladies toilet was unsanitary, dirty and simply hopless. Wasted 2 hours of my life (including the time driving to and from) , 46 pounds of my hard earned money and an evening, that could have been memorable one, if I had been wise in chosing some better place to eat. Will definitely never visit again.

The restaurant itself looks really nice inside Unfortunately we didn’t enjoy the food, the butter chicken was very sweet which wasn’t expected (I’ve had butter chicken in a number of other places and this was the first sweet one we’d had). The consistency of the butter chicken also seemed way too runny. When we sat down Popadoms and dips were brought out without anyone having ordered them which we naively started to eat - this added an extra £20 or so onto the bill which felt a bit cheeky as no one had ordered them. The accompanying dips were below standard as well - the spiced onions were literally just chopped onions with no sauce. Service was a bit questionable too - no one in our party was drinking but the wine glasses were left on the table making the space limited. Prices felt a bit steep. £4.95 for a naan felt quite pricey!

I still can't believe this restaurant was open on Xmas. Despite being very busy they have squeezed me in and delivered both great food and service. Thumbs up for Muskan who kept checking on me. Dipu was also very attentive. Every single staff member was incredible. Highly recommend it. They made my Xmas !

Ordered to collect a few weeks ago, there was a slight mix up with the order but the staff sorted it quickly and made up for the inconvenience. The food was perfect! Ordered again tonight and I made a mistake when ordering and again the staff sorted it quickly without charge despite the mistake being my fault. These guys are so friendly and accommodating! Again the door was great

Top notch Indian Restaurant. Nice restaurant, well furnished, good staff, smartly dressed. Good choice of meals, including vegan meals. Have been a fan of Itihaas take aways for a long time but only recently visited the restaurant for a sit in meal with a friend and the food was absolutely superb. The restaurant is immaculate and the service was excellent. Really good value for money. Will 100% be back in person again.

Got a takeaway from here and asked for a tender lamb Karachi and my got it was amazing. The lamb was so soft. Super tasty dish. Well done 👏🏾

We have been many times. Could not complain about anything. The food as usual was delicious hot and a delight to eat. Service was spot on. The waiters were very friendly nothing was too much bother. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

We had another lovely mealy at Itihaas tonight. The food is delicious and authentic, the staff are friendly, efficient and attentive (thank you, Muskan!), and the atmosphere is warm, sophisticated and relaxed. We look forward to our next visit!

The restaurant staff here made me really welcome and comfortable when my husband and I arrived without a booking, having booked at a nearby Indian but found it to be completely wheelchair inaccessible. Itihaas made me feel like a valued customer rather than a nuisance. The food was delicious and it was reasonably priced too. Will definitely visit again!

Delighted with home delivery service during lockdown, the food is as delicious with the delivery service as it is when sitting in the restaurant. A massive thank you to all the staff for continued excellent customer service.

As you are aware Indian food has a different taste and ingredients are different as is the rice. Please can you tell me was my meal a Indian meal or Bangladesh meal. thank you. Finally why do you advertise your Indian restaurant authentic if not.

Lovely meal and great service

Really poor, one curry a really watery constancy and could only taste chilli, the other curry only tasted of lentils. Paying £32 for two currys a rice and naan I expected a lot more.

We have only had takeaway menu from here and its lovely. A friend said to try a lamb dish you won't be disappointed. First time I've had lamb (lamb Pathia) so tender and tasty.

Iv been going here for years and lately the food has went down hill I thought maybe they have had a off night but my last 3 meals have been the same tasteless and sauce is very watery and chickens tasted as if it was lying for days I phoned to ask them about this if they have changed the chef or anything and they were very cheeky and unprofessional on the phone I will not be back for there overpriced food

Arrived last night at 6.10pm. Order taken promptly and poppadoms arrived quickly. Unfortunately we then sat for an hour waiting for our main course. No one spoke to us for the next hour so we got up and left without being fed. And they still charged us for the poppadoms! Heard the food is tasty. Who knows? Certainly will not be back.

Unfortunately I do not have pictures, but we enjoyed our meal, and the naan bread was absolutely fantastic. We will come back again and probably we will also bring family/friends as we live close by. Service was great.

Took my kids for a treat. On arrival I made clear my son has a cashew allergy (it’s a standard allergen that any restaurant should have listed in its ingredients). I asked for information on which dishes were safe for him, as I know a few of the creamy sauces have these nuts in them. There was even a big sign on the wall about allergies. First server said he’d ask his manager, which is fine. We ordered popodums and cokes meantime. And we waited a while. A manager came eventually and I explained about the cashews. He didn’t seem to be sure what I meant but told me he’d check with the kitchen. Fifteen minutes later still no reply and then a third different server came to take our order. I asked why no one had given us information yet on the cashews. He didn’t seem to know anything about it. At this point I didn’t feel it was safe to put in an order, and we’d been in the restaurant 25-30 minutes. We left. Cost us £14 for a non meal. Poor service. Poor communication between staff. And an unacceptable lack of standard allergen information. Won’t ever be back.

This is a decent Indian restaurant. The service is good. There is always a lot of them buzzing around so if you need anything you will get it quickly. My only complaint is that I ordered my Lamb Shatkora med/hot (as it comes medium). Our waiter seemed to struggle finding what button to press. When I received it I thought it was very bland with no heat at all. I never complained as I didn't want us eating at different times. When we got the bill it had my dish stated as mild!! I wasn't very happy being a lover of a hot dish. I did mention this to our waiter but he laughed it off and said "next time". Think I'll try the Bombay Lounge next time.

Great food. Nice place. Lamb Pathia could have been a bit hotter. Service was a bit weird at one point, one of the waiters kept moving stuff about the table - but still tipped so wasnt anything bad.

Love it! Been a few times and food is amazing and staff always are ready to go the extra mile and are very polite.

As Paris had been cancelled for our 40th Wedding Anniversary we decided to try something different and ordered a take away from here. We tried a number of starters with mains and naan. We enjoyed every mouth full apart from the Garlic Mushrooms, and that was down to personal preference on my part so 5 star

We got a delivery tonight for the first time and it was fantastic. 40 minutes earlier than scheduled and the food was amazing. My only gripe was when I ordered a poppadom and it was literally only 1 poppadom. Don't be tight and give 2 or 3 lol. Joking aside what a fantastic meal. Good job guys, will definately order again.

We love Itihaas! My husband and I travel frequently- across Europe, to America and further beyond. This is one of our very favourite restaurants. We come often and have never been disappointed. My husband is strict vegetarian and loves the choices on the menu. His favourite is the achari baingain! The staff are lovely - friendly, attentive and give excellent recommendations. If something we want is not in the menu, they will make it for us. My husband loves the lassi with toasted cumin (which is not on the menu, but always made special for him!)The owner, Matin always takes the time to chat with us and check we are happy. A special thanks to Syed, Dipu and Nicky and their newest waitress Muskan. Huge thank you to all. We love it here and it is always an extra special night out. We cannot recommend it highly enough! xx

Great atmosphere and friendly staff. I couldn't have been happier with our experience as we didn't pre book with the restaurant on arrival and instantly got made to feel at home. The food was amazing and we weren't waiting overly long. Our waitress Muskan was very polite and well mannered. Would definitely recommend even the owner came around the tables to check everything was up to standard which it was.
