Rude owner and patronizing (typical Indian behavior) Overpriced sizes Dirty silverware Plastic cheap water cups Chlorine smelling water Not enough customization Horrible horrible place! Go to the other Indian restaurant! This was the only option opened for me. What a shame to the Indian food.

I’m super disappointed with the customer service here. They got my order wrong and then were stalwartly rude and unnecessarily stubborn about correcting it. For the insane amount of money I paid, I expected better human connections. I ordered takeout, brought the meal home, and saw that it was chicken instead of paneer. The receipt for my order, clearly said paneer. I don’t eat chicken, so I called them and told them the mistake, and they said I could come get the paneer meal in 20min, and to bring back the chicken so they could throw it out. I said I was happy to come and show them it was chicken, but my partner eats chicken, so why do I have to throw it out? She said if I kept it, they’d have to charge me, even though it was their mistake. So I brought it back, showed them it was chicken, and again asked why they had to throw it out. “It’s their policy.” So I had to make two trips out to fix their error, they didn’t offer to reimburse, discount, anything! Andddd they threw out perfectly fine food that could have been eaten. It’s just disheartening. Really such a waste and makes me kinda peeved. As a vegetarian, throwing out chicken is worse than eating it. For a ridiculously expensive restaurant, I expected far superior customer service. Bad policy, guys.

Not only is the owner rude and makes sure to make you feel stupid if you ask for something that normal Indian restaurants serve but the portions are abysmally small!! The samosa are like crab Rangoon at a Chinese restaurant and the lamb was so gamey tasting we couldn’t even eat our food!! $40 on three items of small portions and disgusting flavor… needless to say I’ll be going to Glory of India in Easthampton for my food. They’re extremely pleasant and the food is amazing and you always leave there with a smile!!

Highly recommend this authentic 🇮🇳 Indian restaurant in Northampton. We were warmly greeted by kind staff immediately upon entering the authentically decorated India House! The atmosphere was very inviting and cozy. We were asked by staff how our meal was to ensure it was nothing shy of delicious. Staff genuinely care about their guests here, and it's apparent. The food was very tasty! We will definitely give our business here again. *please note: if disabled, there are stairs both into the establishment as well as internally to the restrooms on the second floor.

Absolutely amazing service! The food was fantastic and they are so conscientious about allergies. The first thing our server did after greeting us was ask if we had any dietary restrictions. In a world where more and more people are developing food sensitivities/allergies it is such a joy to walk into a restaurant that really takes these things seriously. I will definitely be back!

Cool ambiance and beautifully decorated .... the hostess was really nice and welcoming. HOWEVER!!!!!! Food...food was anything but Indian ... I mean it’s good food for Americans looking for Indian food.... but Indians / Pakistanis steer clear. Every thing was sweet. Dal .. chili chicken ... paneer tikka ... kadahi paneer.... everything was sweet. The garlic rosemary naan was an abomination. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth..... and well it was expensive as well. ...... 2 stars for the good service and the nice hostess.

I am blown away at how good our experience at India House was. We decided last minute to get dinner while we were out and after a quick search we saw that India House had a lot of Gluten Free options on their menu. We drove over and found parking on the street in front of the restaurant, we were seated right away and then it took me a while to pick something on the menu because there were so many options that sounded delicious. I really loved the popcorn chicken appetizer that had a crispy chickpea batter. We got a vegetable korma and I opted for Mild spice to try it out, but we could have definitely ordered it spicier. It was too mild for our tastes but the flavor was good. I also really enjoyed the basmati rice. I will definitely be going back to India House and will order a medium spice level next time. I could probably do hot level but I’ll try medium just in case.

Last time I dined at an Indian restaurant was back before the pandemic. I had heard great things about India house, and this place delivered ten fold. The mango chicken couldn't have been better. One of our group had a soy allergy and another requested a dairy substitute for her meal, and they easily accommodated both of them without hesitation! Our server was extremely personable and charming - she talked with us like friends, and you could tell that was just the general atmosphere this place has. Officially the go-to spot anytime I'm in Northampton!

Bombay Royale is by far the preferred restaurant for Indian dining after the rediculous experience. Portions of EVERYTHING ordered were size one would expect for appetizers. The Paneer and Spinach Naanizza was disappointing. More cheese then anything else - did not look appetizing. Samosas were tiny - after seeing everything else ordered, no surprise. First and last time ordering. Overpriced food. True disappointment to Indian food.

The restaurant is very nice and the servers very friendly. The menu describes a lot of wonderful things and gluten free options. The food was the worst meal we've ever had in an Indian Restaurant. It was too rich and very salty. The meat in the dishes tasted good, but the gravies were too salty. No flavor.... just salt.

The food was absolutely amazing as always. Staff are super friendly and courteous. I didn't get that many pictures because we demolished the food so quick. We got the bread basket and Cauliflower Lollipops for our appetizers that vanished almost as soon as they set it down on our table. We had a party of 8. They were able to cater to all of our levels of tolerance for spiciness. Can't wait to go back again!

We went for a birthday celebration. This family run place is very friendly.... and crowded. The food was excellent as was the service. The owners make it a point to stop by evey table and ask how the meal was.

First time in this establishment and I was very satisfied. We visited here for dinner , I'll say I was overly pleased with food , our server and the whole place in general. Our server was excellent and took care of everything we needed. Food was on table in very reasonable time . Drinks were 10/10. We will be back at this restaurant asap. The family here was amazing and shows what running a family business is all about. They care and it shows. Coming from culinary I can be a stickler about stuff . I have nothing bad to say about anything here. Visited 10/13/23 !

What great food! And the staff were amazingly hospitable. They were very accommodating with dietary needs and attentive to our table. We didn’t smell like a curry house when we came home, I don’t know how that was possible. Very aromatic food.

We travel far out of our way to make a special stop at India House. They happily accommodate pretty much any dietary restrictions, and the food is outstanding! They gave the standard Indian dishes, but also lots of innovative options. My faves are the GF onion rings and the Cilantro-Lime Chicken. The service is excellent, and the ambience is cozy yet elegant. It feels like I have Indian relatives in Massachusetts.

Our dishes were very good, but everything is ala carte, including the chutneys. I did not want to add to the price of the dinner by ordering them, so missed them along side my dish. Also, small dishes of rice are served, and you have to pay for additional. So I enjoyed the quality of the food, but felt that it was a little stingy.

I've had India House food before and it's always great but I think it's even better when you dine in. They can accommodate spice weenies up to the warriors. I'm a weenie so I can arrest that when I ask for mild, it's mild. Still flavorful! We opted for full outside/on the street seating but there's outside, off the street seating as well. Twinkly lights, flowers everywhere, out was nice. Our waiter was very cool. Knew all the foods, made recommendations, our food and drinks arrived quickly and he checked in often. There was a constant flow of traffic both for in house and take out so I'm going to take a guess here and say they were on top of it for all the orders. We talked to other staff as well and they were all super friendly. Back to the food. Aloo Gobi, tandoori paneer Tikka, veg masala and we got assorted naan. We got rice and cauliflower rice. Super yum! Special mention for mango chutney we got with the bread. I asked to bring dinner home it was so good.

India house was a pleasant dining experience and if you like Indian food, you should try it out. The menu was well developed, the staff attentive, and the owner probably charming. I was passing through so he didn't stop at my table, but all the tables around me were seated with regulars. He knew them and greeted them. How wonderful is that? Like so many Indian restaurants ice been to, the exterior us shabby but they interior is intricately decorated. It was very fine! It's true that India house is not handicap friendly. The seating makes the most of a small space and the bathrooms are upstairs. Leave the wheelchair at home. But there is not much room for they owner to conquer this problem given the limitations of the space. India House is definitely worth your time!

If you ever have to do a door dash for this place Id stay far away. I was told to go here for a lunch pick up. They were closed. I asked if they could talk to the customer as I try to contact them to let them know that they were not taking any orders. As I was waiting for a response from the customer they rudely came up to me and told me I would have to leave and to get out. If you do not want door dashers to come to your store then don't sign a contract with them or figure out how to use the service.

First time here, outstanding !! A very warm welcome when entering, we ate the bar. Josh our bartender was phenomenal!! His drinks wear great, his service was awesome. Elka the owner was very pleasant and informative and made us feel like home in her house. Would highly recommend eating here. Every dish made from scratch, it was great to spread out the time between the appetizers and main course. The Tangrin Shrimp was excellent, the Lamb was also awesome. We are going back

I made three visits to India and became familiar with Indian foods. More so, I remember India House as the best Indian food in the Valley. But! Friday’s meal there after an absence of ten years was a sad disappointment. The Pokoras were embarrassing, too overcooked crispy and tasteless. Perhaps asking for medium was a mistake but my Vindaloo and my companion’s Shrimp and Scallops also medium were terribly tasteless. For old times sake I’ll down the road give it another try but it will not be soon.

We were served Shrimp Jalfrezi instead of veg jalfrezi. When we told the owner of the establishment about it, he just took it casually and said - oh he'll replace it. Being an Indian, we assumed he'd understand the seriousness of it and apologize. But it's silly to expect it from a man who when asked where the washroom is, had once told my husband he needs to go in the fields like in India. We had ignored it then, guess we shouldn't have. On the positive side, the waiters here are very well-mannered.

We LOVE Indian food - but the food here was strange & didn't come together into cohesive flavors. I can best describe it as odd. Our naan had a plastic-y taste to it. The vindaloo was different with each bite. Floral notes. Chemical notes. Certainly interesting but not in an enjoyable way. Disappointing, considering the prices were on the higher side.

India house is my favorite restaurant in the whole world! As someone who can’t eat gluten or dairy I have never been able to eat Indian food, but at India house they can do nearly everything dairy and gluten free! Their gluten free roti (naan-like substitute) is absolutely incredible, as are their creamy traditional dishes that they can make with coconut milk. I would also recommend the onion rings as an appetizer! The staff is extremely kind and accommodating. 10/10 experience every single time.

The meal and staff, including the owners, were excellent as always. I can't really say enough good things about our experience except that we always look forward to dining here. If you like your meal spicy, without ruining your taste buds, then get your meal hot and spicy! They have mild and medium options as well. They also have quite the selections for menu items and some really nice specials. The chef does a wonderful job preparing the food; we have yet found anything we didn't like. My wife had a chicken and shrimp dish in a tomato based sauce, she absolutely loved over rice with a medium sauce and I had a scallop and shrimp dish prepared with coconut milk, cashews and raisins in a hot curry sauce; phenomenal! The only negative I have is that the portions are a little small for the price, lacking a little in the seafood end, but otherwise very good meals. Please try the Naan bread with their dipping sauces and chutneys. Especially the one that is prepared with cinnamon and cardamom ? My overall rating is actually a 4.5, well worth the visit

India House defies words. The unpretentious exterior conceals a treasure of gorgeous details inside. Our hostess, Angela, was a delight and helped us with our choices. The menu is written with a degree of zest not often found in any restaurant. The food was delicious and exactly as ordered; the portions were perfect. Our mouths are so happy. They also make a mean mango lassi.

  • 5/5 Melanie D. 4 years ago on Google
So many of the unfavorable reviews complain about the quality of the food, price and portion size. I will say that I've tried many of the Indian restaurants in the valley and this one is my favorite. I can't speak to other people's opinions, but this place has never disappointed. I usually order something different every time I go, and it has always been fantastic. So, if the food is fantastic, then price isn't a bother. Curries take a while to prepare, they have to simmer for a long time, and spices are expensive. If I have to pay a little extra for a quality product, I'm OK with that. Unreasonable portion expectations seems to be an American problem. We've become used to super-sized servings. I think their portions are more than adequate, I always need a doggie bag for my leftovers. So India House gets my vote for best in the valley, I highly recommend it.

I've been coming here since I was a kid and I have to say the quality has unfortunately gone down a bit. I enjoyed the dinning sets much better when it was more traditional brass and copper. I think they have tried to modernize there serving plates but I think in doing this they lost the authenticity and feeling of tying the whole beauty of an Indian restaurant is lost. The food doesn't have that full of flavor and taste as it use too. I really loved going here they use to have the best Indian food in town. You guys are still awesome but I really think changing the food back to what it was, was a lot better.

The food is good, but the portions are small for the price, especially the rice. A nice selection of the typical Northern Indian dishes. Only open for dinner and seating can be an issue for walk-ins. Better choices in the area for selection, quality, and price.

First time trying this place. Recommended by friends. I'm plant based so I was deciding between two vegetarian dishes. I asked the guy (manager or owner) which he would choose. He suggested something completely different. Vegetarian Balchao. I tried it, hot. OMG. The best meal I've had in a long time. Flavour and heat was just perfect. Came with rice. Freakin delicious. We live in Canada so we won't be back too often but if you live close by, and like Indian food, I highly recommend this place. They tailor to everyone. Gluten free and vegan. Kudos to the chefs. The only con was they ran out of gulab jamun. Pity. But still left on a food high!
