If you're a fan of Poe this is a must-do. Its a quick jaunt from the Inner Harbor area and there are several notable folks buried/memorialized here. Don't stop exploring at the memorial to Poe. Keep walking to the back side to see the rest of the gravesites. AND BE RESPECTFUL! Please. Bringing an old worn out copy of some of Poe's works is a good idea as well. Also: And neither the angels in heaven above, Nor the demons down under the sea, Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee

A bit creepy and seeped in history, this old cemetary is a must see if you love Poe. Located right in the heart of Baltimore, you can walk through and read plaques explaining the history of the place. Free to enter. Parking can be a bit tricky.

This place is amazing, and to think I have been passing it on my way to the VA all this time. The amount of history in this place is mindblowing. Definitely a must see foe any visitor of Baltimore.

Was pleasantly surprised to see this while visiting Baltimore. Did not know he was buried here. Was able to get in even though it was supposed to be closed. We found both grave sites. Quiet small graveyard but quite accessible!

Walking up to this place is awe inspiring. The church is beautiful. Walking through this cemetery takes history to a new level. While Edgar Allan Poe's gravesite is beautiful, the rest of the cemetery is just as breathtaking. It was my second time coming here and I will go back again, just to be surrounded by the beauty and history.

Even on a super hot day, it was worth the walk...If you like quaint cemeteries and churches. The church wasn't open but the area around it was. Awesome way to spend 30 minutes or so.

I stopped by this old cemetery over this past weekend to see the monument and grave of Edgar Allan Poe. The monument and headstone for Mr. Poe seems to be well intact. There are other graves of notable figures in this cemetery, but a majority of them are pretty worn and not legible. The grounds itself seem a bit creepy, but well maintained. The price of admission is for free and all the graves are easily accessible. This is definitely a must see for anyone (like me) who was a fan of reading Mr. Poe's work growing up.

Nicely preserved church graveyard featuring multiple historical figures. Plenty of street parking with lots of nearby attractions. 4 stars only because it really isn't much to it. Only worth the visit if you are already in the area.

As A big fan of Allen Poe, I came after 8am,walking in the neighborhood till 9:20am on Sunday and all gates remained locked. What a bum. I took pictures through the gate. Guess today is not a day for me.

I walked here from my hotel. I got lucky and it was only me there for a little while. A local clued me in to walk farther back where he was originally buried before being moved closer to the gate. Free and incredibly meaningful.

This place was definitely creepier than I expected. Quite a few graves and they were quite large it was a little surreal looking at the different tombs. There were great historical facts around. My only disappointment was that the writing in Amit of the graves couldn’t be read.

Unfortunately, Tropical Storm Ophelia shut down our entrance to Edgar Allan Poe's grave site. It was still an honor to visit.

What a fun experience on Halloween. We attended a reading of The Telltale Heart and organ performances. We got to tour the grounds and the catacombs under the church. So very cool!!

Love the old cemetery. Please note that Edgar Allen Poe has two graves. The place where he is buried now is right at the entrance. To find the his original grave, keep following the brick path. His old grave has a head stone. There is no cost to wander the cemetery.

It always feels weird to review a grave site but I guess it's the world we live in 🤷 There aren't many graves sites that I have looked forward to visiting as much as this one. Having always been a fan of Poe's work, I had to come past him a visit. It's always strange when you go to something that is very old but that is located actually in town. This little graveyard is one of those odd places. It's like a time machine. You come in and you see the stones that are so old but right outside the walls, people are driving Teslas and riding on scooters. Anyway. The cemetery itself was very nice. Small enough to walk through comfortably but not enough to get a little mentally lost in as you wander. Poe's grave in and of itself is impressive but if you're like me, you had seen pictures already and knew what you were going to see. You're reminded of how life was much different. So many people died so young. I did there looking at Poe's grave knowing that I was in already several years older than he ever had the chance to be. I'm done babbling. This is definitely worth checking out.

I found it interesting. But that's just me. I'm a history buff, and I like finding historical sites in the cities I visit. It's a church and its graveyard. That's it. Poe isn't the only historical person buried here, but the most popular. It was on my to-do list while I was in Baltimore.

Beautiful old cemetery with the highlight of course being Poe's monument and grave. I enjoyed this more than see the aquarium that morning. A must visit for writers.

The gravesite was very interesting. I also thought that the descriptive signs were good. The rest of the cemetery is also pretty cool. A lot of prominent people from Baltimore are buried there.

Wow. What a neat, gothic place. There is some interpretation and it's also just really unique. I've never been to a graveyard like it. Little walking path, lots of notable people from Baltimore (including the man for whom Fort McHenry was named) and a variety of types of resting places. Learned lots, a really interesting stop.

It is very nice place and it is near to Maryland university. I have seen some movie that makes from story of Edgar Allan Poe . When I known that grave of him is in Baltimore, I found the place on the map and moved to there to visit that. I liked this place….

If you’re a Poe fan than you gotta make this stop if in Baltimore. Grounds are open to the public on Sundays until 4 pm. Make sure to double check Westminsters Church online schedule. So much history on the grounds itself.

On following the steps of Edgar Allen Poe I had to stop at his grave. As you go in the Cemetery he and his wives are the first Graves. This is a very old Cemetery as the first grave is from 1788. There's revolutionary war and war of 1812 veterans buried in this Cemetery. As you wander around this place if you look under the later built church you will find gravestones. They built the church right in the middle of the Cemetery. This is a must go for any Poe fan.

His grave is further into the cemetery. The following picture is where he's actually at. It's only open to the public. Thursday through Sunday. I think it's 11 am to 5 pm. And it's free. If you stay at the Springhill suites on the corner of Eutaw and Fayette. It's only 2 blocks away. Springhill is a Marriott property but it's only $127 a night because you smack dab in the middle of the ghetto downtown Baltimore. Which I prefer over this place we are at now. We are on a north American tour. Me and the other guys in the group. We are In Plymouth Meeting PA. Boring as all get out. Don't come to this town. Uppity isn't the word for it. Conformity! That's the word for it. Or robots would be a good one. Only MPC's here.

A little eerie for sure. The graveyard wrapped around the building. Lots of nooks and crannies. No way I'd go at night or alone. Isn't in the greatest part of town either but we didn't have any issues.

Once I took tons of pictures and after uploading them found the creepiest things. Wish I had those pictures to show. I'm going back to take more. Glad I live here in Baltimore...

Great, free historical site to visit in Baltimore. Grounds were clean, and the information on the interpretive signs was very interesting. Only complaint is that some of the signs were quite weathered and sometimes hard to read. Definitely a gem for Baltimore.

We visited on Halloween for a tour of the catacombs under the church and a reading of Poe poems next to his grave. Some eerie live organ music also. I hope they keep doing tours like that, it was awesome.

  • 5/5 Luke E. 3 years ago on Google
What a lovely stop to make! Signs surrounding the grave provide a snapshot into the life of Edgar Poe's life, as well as the life of Virginia Clemm and the mystery surrounding it. The rest of the graveyard was no-less enjoyable: what a treat it was to see all of the authentic headstones which had become so old and worn that some had no writing on them! I would love to see the church provide new grave markers with each persons information alongside the original marker. Definitely a must-see of Baltimore!

An interesting historical location. Not only is Poe buried here, but so are several veterans of the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, or both in some cases. Also buried here is Baltimore's first mayor. Some of the burial stones and vaults are in rather strange locations, such as under the porch or walkway of the church, due to the cemetery being there first, and the church being built later.

  • 5/5 Alan W. 3 years ago on Google
so much history in such a small place

  • 4/5 Lisa S. 3 years ago on Google
The church is absolutely breathtaking, so much history here. I found it interesting that the dates of Poe's birth and death are incorrect on the headstone. Not sure how that happens. I wish the church was open to tour the inside.

The cemetery is interesting. Poe's grave stone monument is definitely the main attraction although I'm always curious as to why there are two different places bearing a Edgar Allan Poe grave monument as to which he is really buried but remains steeped in mystery but the coolest thing is his grave in this small cemetery. It has a few other small but interesting grave sites to offer as well. If visiting, always Worth checking it out. I live near so I see the cemetery daily.
