As a literary fan, I was excited for this one. You have to reserve a time (there are no walk ins) and they do not allow you in early. At the "top of the hour" two guides came out to give instructions (steep, narrow staircases, wear a mask if dust gets to you, times, etc). They were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. You have 45 minutes to self tour the house, which is more than enough time because it is only 600 sq. feet. There are signs in every room telling the story of Poe and the family, and what stories he wrote while there. Five people lived in that house, including an invalid who was bedridden. It took us about 30 minutes to go through, read everything and talk to the guides. The only thing I was disappointed in was that I paid extra for the audio tour, not realizing you need to bring headphones because it's a cell phone tour. I didn't want to bother others, so I didn't listen. The guides did mention that the audio tour will play anywhere (and in any of the places Poe has been) so I will be listening to it later.

The Edgar Allan Poe house and museum was the main reason I went to Baltimore and in the end, I was incredibly happy I dud. The house itself is incredibly well kept, Cramped only because it's an old house that was made that way and just pretty overall from the inside and out! The people working there were pretty cool to! They knew there stuff and knew once they had said their piece, to let visitors walk about as needed! The Exhibits on display are varied and just neat. They're spread throughout the museum and vary from Poes family tree and some of his personal belongings! Accompanying information gives you the details on each Exhibit, from the bottom to the top! If there were any complaints I have, it's the Crampedness is a bit overwhelming and the area it is in is not so much BAD just not well kept! That aside the Edgar Allan Poe house and museum is great, highly recommended by me and a staple of Baltimore culture and at a reasonable price no less! Videos and pictures are of the outside and inside of the Museum, Exhibits, and info on the Exhibits!

This is a neat little museum to learn about a cultural icon. Edgar Allan Poe once lived in this small building. Find out more about his time there, as well as some of his other history. Poe is also buried nearby. Street parking is available, depending on when you come, and can save you a good deal over nearby garages.

Great piece of history and self paced. Reservations are needed, but there were some walk ups. For fans and history buffs, plan to spend the full hour. The house is very small, so it's an easy walk thru and can be done in 20 minutes. House is very authentic and minimally decorated. April, who spoke about the home and time period, has been with the house for 30 years. She has so many wonderful stories and answered all our questions. It is an amazing part of the big Poe tour if you add it to multiple other sites like visiting the gravesite. Gift shop is small and sizes limited.

Teeny tiny temporary home of Poe and family. The stairs are a trip (almost literally) but the feeling of history is palpable here. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable and the self guided tour is short. Worth it for the souvenir book also! Thank you Poe, thank you Baltimore. 💜

Dark, crowded and gloomy, Poe's home has been preserved and it's hard to imagine several adults living in these tiny cramped rooms. Winters must have been awful. The stairs are tight, twisty and dangerous. Worth the visit to walk the same floors that Poe did.

I'm glad they have kept this as a museum to honor such a great American author. It is crazy how small this house actually is and how steep the stairs wthe stairs were it's hard to imagine writing in this environment

Very nice for the price. The people were nice and informative. I must say thank you for the portable ACs in the home and the fans. Otherwise it would have been miserably hot

My sister and I were very happy to be able to take our mother (who was visiting from Savannah, GA) to one of the historic homes of Edgar Allen Poe - one of her most favorite writers! This was such a treat! Laura was a great help before our arrival, being attentive and answering very quickly via text to our requests ! Jordan was a wonderful historical guide! He gave us such good information about Poe and my mother was so very pleased. Jordan even shared other historical sites for us to visit for Poe - and we did visit his grave site in Baltimore just a couple of miles (10ish minute walk away)! We are originally from Savannah, GA and we truly appreciate and value history! I'm so glad to have been able to help my mother's visit to Baltimore so very pleasant with this visit!

The Poe Festival and Poe House were amazing.. So many vendors with cool themed items to buy. The burial exhibit was very interesting, the man who ran it was very knowledgeable and had awesome items to show from that era. Parking for both was not fun, but worth the walk.

If you’re a fan of Poe, you will love it!! Just be aware that there are many steep stars and small places to take them. I loved it!

This tiny home at tops only takes an hour to self-tour. If you read every plaque and poster, it might take longer. The tour itself was great, and there is portable AC's around the house. The staff was friendly and happily answered any questions we had. They have Edgar Allan Poe knick knacks for sale at the entrance.

Edgar was also an innovator of tiny home living as on display here. The shop and tour docents were the highlights as was the general nervous vibe of occupying his space even temporarily.

What an awesome experience to be in the same home as my favorite writer of all time lived.

It was interesting going through the house and seeing how he lived while living with his cousins. The tour is self guided and roughly takes 20-30 min. The staff was helpful and fairly knowledgeable about the property. Don't go in the expectation to see anything of serious significance.

Brief visit to Baltimore and we stopped by here because we saw it by chance, we weren't sure if we would make the next available tour because we had to catch our flight. A tour was just getting out (1:30pm 7/9/23) and people were buying souvenirs so I asked if I could possibly just get a souvenir because we weren't able to make the last tour because of our flight. She turned us away and said, "No I'm sorry we can't help you were going to be taking our break..." all while people were still buying souvenirs. Also, there weren't any other people trying to get in that were not a part of the tour either, it was just me and my son. For a museum that takes donations it's surprising that they would turn away money without actually having to give a tour.

This house is where Poe was living, when he first began writing prose, while supporting some of his relatives. The house is humble, but full of treasures. The staff is engaging, friendly, and knowledgeable. Your reservation gets you 45 minutes in the house. Word to the wise: stairways are steep and narrow, and there's nowhere to wait inside, or outside, for that matter, so there's no reason to show up too early before your scheduled tour.

An interesting experience for Poe fans. A beautiful little house. It is very important that you reserve your ticket in advance, since it is the only way to enter. The prices in the store are a bit expensive.

Great little museum, sharing a portion of Edgar Allan Poe’s life in Baltimore. The house is very modest, showing where Edgar’s family lived around 1832. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and shared all he knew!

Friendly informative staff, miraculous that the (a) house of America’s greatest writer still exists here considering it’s in a housing project. The mile walk from the gravesite was interesting to say the least. Merch for sale at the house, don’t miss this place.

Showed up without reservation and luckily was able to squeeze in before the 16 person capacity. They accept credit card and you get a freebie with a donation! For those that read all the plaques like me, it will be a 1 hour foray. Prep for a great experience by reading a poem from Poe's early years! Accessibility:; There are about 12 steep and narrow steps up to the attic, that barely the ball of your foot can plant, so elders with walking devices not advised for this part.

The guide was very friendly & knowledgeable. The house itself was very interesting. There are many pieces of information to read. Recommended for any Poe fan.

Amazing experience to walk into house of such a great and influential writer! The staff is sweet and is quick to offer information when someone is doing the self-guided tour. The place was kept as close to original house with few recreations. Its very mych like stepping back in time. They have a cute little git shop with very unique gifts to end the visit with something nice to take back home

Amazing visit! It’s small but historic and impactful. Jordan shared so many tidbits of knowledge about Poe that made our visit so special (thanks Jordan!!). Laura was a welcoming face before I arrived and when we got there her cheer started our tour off beautifully. Great historic visit

I loved the experience of stepping into Edgar Allan Poe’s house. It’s a tiny house that will take you around 15 minutes to explore. If you are an avid reader or a Poe fan — don’t hesitate and go! If you are trying to learn more, do your own research before you go as they give you only tidbits of general information on Poe’s life. It’s much more extraordinary than that! The only downside is that the experience is overpriced for what they offer, $10 a ticket is a tad too much!

  • 5/5 Alex M. 5 months ago on Google
I will admit that it is a really cool experience for any literary nerd. It’s certainly a must-do experience for all that enjoy Poe. I would just go with the expectation that it will be quite basic. It is a really tiny house and they tell you a bit about Poe but nothing that an avid Poe enthusiast probably wouldn’t know. We paid $20 and probably spent 10-15 minutes (which is all you need). I’m glad we did it but it was also slightly underwhelming.

Very interesting place. Tour guides were great. It's a self guided tour, but there's a couple guides to answer questions. There is on street parking(free) if you are lucky. A couple people parked out front. I rode on the rent a scooter from Inner Harbor. Easy to get to. Make reservations. The place is popular and no walk-ins available.

The staff were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It took us about 30 minutes to go through, read everything and talk to the guides which it was enough time because it is only 600 sq. feet. There are signs in every room telling the story of Poe and the family, and what stories he wrote while there and five people lived in this house.
