Often said to be one of the most beautiful libraries in the country, it's worth a visit. Paid street parking is easy to find nearby. Open during the day every day except Friday and Saturday, walk inside. When you see the check-in area, go left for a little exhibit space and the door to the library. It's very large with stunning design. You can't go up any stairs so stay on the ground floor, keeping quiet out of respect to the people studying.

As a wedding photographer who has captured over 200 weddings I can truly say this venue is amazing! The stacks of books and the library’s warm glow create an incredible atmosphere for your wedding day! Plus you’re steps away from Mount Vernon, which is a great spot for your portraits and first look. I work hard over at Kate Ann Photography to create artful images that remind my couples what matters most. I’m here to be your trusted resource not only on your wedding day but throughout the planning experience. I gotcha!

This is an out of sight library! Baltimore is a hidden treasure near Washington DC. If you are visiting Washington DC, you really should spending one extra day to visit this city and this beautiful library.

Beautiful historic library right in the gorgeous Washington monument cobblestone square. Only the ground floor is open to public access while the other floors are reserved for researchers and JHU students. The main room of the library has the world famous ballroom view and a handful of tables all around available for visitors to study at. There are also adjoined connecting rooms that lead to the Peabody institute, reserve rooms, or gallery-like exhibits of the history of the place. There is limited street parking in front of the building, but more around the corner in the mount Vernon district. The place is a short walk away from all the other cafes and attractions of the iconic art district. Limited space for studying for worth stopping by

By far the most beautiful library I have ever seen. It was like being in a movie. It is worth taking 5 to 10 minutes to explore this fairy tale, romantic library.

OVERALL: Stunning! Honestly, my husband brought me here simply for the views + it was fabulous. I loved being surrounded by books, feeling the history, and being stunned by the architecture. Such a lovely visit + if I lived closer, I would absolutely return.

I'm told this library was the inspiration for the library in Disney's Beauty and the Beast and I knew I had to visit! I did expect there to be a bit more of an area to walk around and explore but unfortunately guests were limited to the first level. I believe tours were available, but it didn't take us too long to visit and see the whole place. There is a lobby with some musical history for lovers of the arts to view. Cute place to visit in Mt. Vernon and would be a great addition to a trip to the Walters Art Gallery.

This is a historical landmark to visit when you are in Baltimore so I made it a priority. It is really beautiful in here and I love the architecture of the building inside and out. You cannot go anywhere except the first floor of the library but you can see plenty from the ground floor. They are located in Johns Hopkins University so sometimes it is closed so just beware. This is the library that was the inspiration for Belle’s library in Beauty and the Beast so if you loved that movie or just love library in general check it out next time you are in town!

The George Peabody Library is one of the coolest wedding venues a couple could ever want! The beauty of the library space where ceremony and receptions are held is awe-inspiring, and the spiral staircase makes for some really stunning portraits! This spot is anything but "by the book," and we can't wait to get back here and make more art soon! IG: @theoberports

This library is stunning! It was an inspiration for Beauty and The Beast and I can totally see it! The space is beautiful and they have so many incredible and very old books that I just find so fascinating. Definitely a much visit when you're near the Baltimore area!

I wasn’t aware that I needed a K95, 94, or cloth and surgical mask before coming. I just had my cloth mask still on after coming off the bus. Since I don’t live in Baltimore, this was my only chance to visit for possibly years. Such a shame-I was looking forward to exploring the collection.

This is such a great library. Everyone who doesnt want to read but posting instagram stories, this is the perfect spot. And it was quiet, very few ppl inside. 2 guys were studying and there was a woman feeding her baby. Baby was very quiet and peaceful. If your kid like this baby, you can bring it inside otherwise stay outside.

So glad to see this library open to the public again. It is a serenely quiet place to get work done and an architectural masterpiece. Note to college students - eduroam wifi is accessible here.

The cast iron architecture of this library and the books it houses are breathtaking. If you’re in the Baltimore area, don’t miss a trip to Mt. Vernon and to this incredible library!!

As a wedding photographer I work in a LOT of unique spaces. None are quite as unique as a wedding in a gorgeous library. The event space is beautiful, the staff was beyond kind and helpful, and the entire experience was WONDERFUL. I can't wait to work there again!

Beautiful library! The first time you enter in the main room is amazing. Definitely one of the top places to visit in Baltimore. Check the opening times before going, we go there a little bit before closing time. Ah, it is free admission!

Lots of old books and other collections, and it's free to visit - you can just chill in there and even bring your computer here to get your work done, the enlightenment from the past will make you super productive.

I went to study it was a good place. Not many people definitely would go to experience the beauty of the library. Everyone at the help desk were very kind.

This is definitely worth a stop. It's free and it's really an experience. You will have to enter the Peabody building and it doesn't indicate outside that the library is in there, but once you walk in it's just to the left. As other reviews have stated, as a visitor you can only walk through the ground floor. The scale of this place is stunning and even as someone who doesn't read a whole lot, I was fascinated and really wished I could explore more!

We arrived literally 10 minutes before closing time on a weekend. What a breathtaking place. If you are a book lover you will breathe the scent of old paper magnificence. This is a must see. Park and walk the whole area, it's a stunning part of Baltimore that many miss when limiting their visit to just the Port.

🌟𝕋𝕙𝕖  ℙ𝕖𝕒𝕓𝕠𝕕𝕪 𝕃𝕚𝕓𝕣𝕒𝕣𝕪 🌟 •••𝙱𝚊𝚕𝚝𝚒𝚖𝚘𝚛𝚎.𝙼𝙳••• 》📍The George Peabody Library, known as Baltimore’s “Cathedral of Books,” is consistently ranked among the most beautiful libraries in the world. The famed library first opened its doors in 1878 and was to be “well furnished in every department of knowledge and of the most approved books of the day.” 📍Architect Edmund G. Lind’s drawings called for a massive skylight soaring over six tiers of cast-iron balconies to house a collection with over 300,000 volumes dating from the Renaissance through the 19th Century. 📍Highpoints of the collection include first editions by Poe, Hawthorne, Melville, Baltimore’s own H. L. Mencken, and many other American authors; Diderot’s famous 28-volume Encyclopédie; early editions of Don Quixote; children’s books; Maryland and Baltimore maps; beautiful natural history folios; a first edition of Darwin’s Origin of the Species; fore-edge books; and many other important imprints.

From what I understand, this library is a part of The John Hopkins Institute so it's primary use would be directed to the students however, visitors are aloud to see the inside of this institution of learning & education, it really is one-of-a-kind with the way it was designed from top to bottom it appears incredibly flawless! As a visitor, I was restricted to the first floor ultimately however, I was AMAZED with The Life & Passion of Ethel Ennis & The Peabody Library!!!

A stunning library to be sure, one of the best I've seen throughout the nation. The stunning architecture and splendid designs really captured my attention. However, it simultaneously runs into the issue of being too public and private. As a practical library, it does a rather poor job with limited spaces and considerable tourist run through. The upper levels also serve only as decoration, being too private as well. Although I don't like it too much as a library, I think it does a fantastic job as a tourist must-see and event center, which still captures a different demographic of 5 stars.

Extremely beautiful!! But that's about it. It's crowded and has an awkward silent library feel. Check it out if you're in the area but don't make it a main destination.

The security staff helped us with our stroller to get to the main library so we could see the impressive display of books. It is a small visit but to walk amongst books that can be hundreds of years old and to see such an expansive display of books all at once is a special feeling. If you are in the area it is worth stopping in, plus it is next to the impressive Walter's Art Musuem.

Small exhibit with FASCINATING books, the oldest being from 1499! Peabody was an interesting character for sure, and the library is utterly stunning. Even as a library enthusiast, I only spent about 20 minutes here. It's a quick stop, but so worth it. Highly recommend! (The books in the actual library are also interesting to peruse. Lots of censuses and all books with old fashioned titles and subjects. So neat).
