Surprisingly interesting to this first time Gentile visitor. Particularly of interest to those who find urban history, such as early settlements by immigrants, fascinating. The museum is very professional yet not at all crowded when i was there. Definitely plan to take the free tour offered at three times each day, but the tour covers the synagogues, not the exhibits, so feel free to see the exhibits before the tour. Also plan to have lunch at Attman's deli before or after your visit; it's across the street and forms part of the history. I would allow a couple hours tops for the exhibits and an hour for the tour.

It was a very enjoyable experience, I had no idea about the Jewish and Italian immigrants early in the history of Baltimore. The synagogues and retellings of earlier stories are very informative and impactful. Our tour guide Joyce was very warm and helpful, narrating buried stories. It was not a big museum, but a very niche place to visit.

I went on a rainy day but most of the museum and tour are in the inside. There is the main museum and then a synagogue on either side. The main building has two exhibits and a gift shop. Make sure you check out the gift shop before they close as they close promptly on the dot. They had jewelry, mezuzahs, kids toys, etc. I unfortunately did not get to check it out as I ran out of time. The main exhibit (Voices of Lombard Street) is a tour around a Jewish neighborhood area and a personal visit to a Jewish home and deli. Very personal details and definitely informative. Be prepared to read a lot. The second exhibit was Blacklist The Hollywood Red Scare. I did not understand nor appreciate this exhibit as much as the other. I saw this last and feel I did not have enough time to read and understand what was going on and how it was related to the Jewish people. I was lucky enough to be there during a scheduled tour time of the synagogues. This was my favorite part. The first one we saw is no longer in use but you hear the history, see some original parts of the building and see the service area. The second synagogue is still in use. It was very intriguing to see the inside as a non Jewish person. I would recommend seeing this even if you are not Jewish. It is a part of history and interesting. We had to walk in the rain for part of the tour but that did not bother me.

What a great experience it was for my wife and I. Our son and his wife, and their 1 year old child. We were there on Christmas day. The first thing they asked us each to put a bag together of items. These bags were going to be distributed later that day to the homeless. What better way to start a tour of The Jewish Museum of Maryland than to do a mitzvah! After that we took our time walking around, and learning the history and looking at the exhibits. Great time!

Really interesting museum if you're interested in the history of the Jews in Baltimore. It's handicapped accessible. I recommend it, but call first. They're closing down for renovations soon.

One of the stops With Open Door Baltimore. We hope to get into the museum but that was not part of the deal. The tool was very good and the docents were nice and knowledgeable

I really enjoyed this little museum! It gave a great overview of the history of Jewish life in Baltimore over the course of a few centuries. Staff were very friendly and helpful! I highly recommend to anyone looking to learn more about Baltimore's history.

Really cool exhibit on the cultures of Lombard Street and the multicultural enclaves in East Baltimore. You would expect to see exhibits mostly on Jewish culture in the area, but the museum did an excellent job detailing the multicultural history of East Baltimore. Focus was on early 20th century Lloyd street area. Learned a lot about the various businesses and life in East Baltimore . Also what appears to be a temporary exhibit on Soviet Jews and the process of bringing the "refusniks" to America. Really identified with that one. Highlight was a synagogue tour of two historic synagogues on Lloyd st. with David, a local who grew up in the area and knows a ton about the history of Judaisim in Maryland and Baltimore. Learned so much! Highly recommended!

This place was really interesting! We spent about 2.5 hours here, which was more than I expected to for a small museum with only two exhibits, but there’s so much reading to do and the exhibits are really interesting. We came for the Blacklist exhibit but ended up loving the Voices of Lombard Street too. The person who checked us in was very nice.

A bit on the small side, museum-wise, but a wonderful visit!

The cool thing about this museum is that it's not just a history of Judaism in Maryland, it's really a history of immigrants of all realms into Baltimore. I really liked their main exhibit, which is visually interesting with voices and quotes from people who grew up in the mass migration era into the city. The synagogue was also pretty cool, with the basement and the excavated Mikvah.

This museum is set between the oldest US synagogue (which I visited) and a subsequent synagogue built by a splinter congregation (sadly, didn't have time to see). All together it was quite interesting. The museum has changing exhibits.

Fascinating deep history of Judaism in Baltimore & in Maryland generally. Docents spend lots of time offering detailed explanations. Tour includes 2 synagogues as well as the permanent & special exhibits at the museum. Museum has lots of things for kids to do, too.

Went for a friends art show / musical performance and had an absolutely amazing time. Free parking lot right outfront, beautiful courtyard area in a surprisingly calm little nook of the city, and two really cool exhibits! Both the history-based section and the current art installation from young Jewish artists were awesome. Could have stayed much longer - will have to come back again soon!
