The National Katyล„ Memorial is a monument in Baltimore, Maryland, which memorializes the victims of the 1940 Katyn massacre of Polish nationals carried out by Soviet forces. Baltimore's Polish-American community was instrumental in having the monument built. Wikipedia

Impressive memorial. The background information given next to the monument was appreciated. A good sightseeing stop for those with an interest in Polish history or a connection to Poland.

One of the darkest chapters in Polish history is commemorated and memorialized in a beautiful city sculpture. It is important to never forget the tragedies that are caused by human cruelty. The information provided on the nearby plaques is really helpful to understand what happened, and reflects the close relations between American and Polish communities.

Found this by chance on an early morning walk. Very interesting and very much worth a visit. Itโ€™s a beautiful memorial of sorts honoring some important heroes that I never knew about.

This monument stands in the middle of roundabout at Harbor East. There stands some fountains and lots of borders around here, beautiful spot. If you want to go here, you should get on The Charm City Circulator and get off at โ€œHarbor Eastโ€(Orange Root or Green Root). Around here, lots of hotels, shops, movie theaters locate.

Stunning monument to commemorate the victims of Russian barbarism and lies regarding the massacre of Polish military officers and members of the educated class in the Katyn Forest area. Signs and granite plaques give additional details about the monument and famous Poles who contributed to American history.

This is an amazing piece of art, the pain and suffering inflicted by the Soviets on WWII Polish officers is very intensely represented in the contorted postures of the statues. I saw the monument in Jersey City too but this one is so much more poignant.

I was in Katyn. This is a village in the Smolensk region, not far from the border. A terrible crime took place there. In 1940, the USSR authorities decided to shoot captured Poles When a year later Stalin made peace with the Polish government. As part of the new treaty, all Polish prisoners of war, especially those captured in 1939 on the territory of the Soviet Union, were granted an amnesty and the right to free movement throughout the territory of the Union. Poland was missing 15,000 of its officers. Only in the spring of 1943 a terrible secret was revealed to the world, the world heard a word that still emanates horror: Katyn As you know, the Katyn burial site was discovered by the Germans in 1943, when these areas were under occupation. This is just one of a series of war crimes committed by the NKVD of the USSR in 1940. I was extremely happy and touched to see this monument in Baltimore. This tragedy must not be forgotten
