Hiking Tunnel Mountain was a great way to start my morning. I hit this trail just before 7 am and for the most part, had it to myself on the way up, there was only one other person at the top when I arrived. On the way down is when I hit the traffic coming up. But there is plenty of mountain to go around, and I am sure it is worth hiking at any time of the day. The hike is not super tough, but it took this Fatman a few stops to catch my breath on the way up. You will find some amazing views of the town, and the lodge, and on the other side of the mountain is the golf course area. Truly spectacular vistas!

Nice moderate hike with steady incline throughout (1.5-2hr in and out) with great views of Banff downtown and surrounding mountains along the way! Saw a fox and a group of Mule Deer doe on the hike. Trail was packed snow/ice, crampons/spikes highly recommended for this time of year.

Nice quick hike with some great views. I hiked it right after Sulphur Mountain so it was nice to see Sulphur from Tunnel and vice versa! Ice cleats were a game changer as it was quite icy in late March.

Easy trail, only 30 min on the trail. Not too crowded but better earlier the better. Small parking lot. Lots of kids on this trail. Great view.

After doing this hike more than 20 times, I can finally attest that this trail/hike is the best. Iโ€™ve done this with my friends, my family and my gf. Theyโ€™ve all loved it ! Iโ€™ll keep climbing Tunnel Mountain until I move away from Banff.

Great hike for beginner-moderate level. Some steep switch backs on ascent, which are a bit challenging in the higher altitude. Trails easy to follow. Beautiful views from the summit.

Beautiful trail close to town. Itโ€™s not paved and some sections are steeper but itโ€™s a challenge worth the effort!

Nice trail up to the top. The top is heavily treed so you have to walk to the different sided to get good views. There are many places to lookout. Bit of a climb so not super easy. It's not flat, that's for sure.

Easy hiking, but you need cleats in Winter. You can see the views of the town on summit. After sunset, it's really dark so quite dangerous but the views were stunning.

In my opinion Tunnel Mountain is an easy hike but I put moderate based on what I saw on my way to the summit. The hike was about 2.25 round trip. The views of the village below were nice but nothing spectacular. Basically it's a decent exercise hike with okay views from the summit. I wouldn't avoid the hike but I would choose another option if it I had one.

This was our favourite hike! We found it pretty easy but it was steep so be prepared for an uphill walk the entire way. We went in the morning and hardly anyone was there. Absolutely breathtaking!!

Tunnel Mountain Trail offers a rewarding hike with breathtaking views. The moderate difficulty level makes it accessible for most hikers. The trail's well-maintained paths and informative signage enhance the experience.

Limited parking, thereโ€™s about 10 spots near the top. Fairly easy hike - took about 45mins to go up and shorter to come down. The view is worth the effort. I went on a cloudy day, so not many people were on the trails.

Quite steep so it was a little tough going up for us 20+ year olds but we also saw others going up with ease so maybe it is just us. The view of Banff from above is totally worth it though. Absolutely stunning and beautiful. The trail is also accessible from the town

Easy workout trail. 45 mins up, 20 down for intermediate. Zero technicality, decent view of Banff town and Rundle. No snow as of May, since it's low and slow. Feel free to "summit" this glorified hill if you have an extra hour in the area and want a cheap view. Skip if you've been to Sulphur, Rundle or surrounding true mountains.

Perfect hike for first morning in town! Little steep in the beginning but the views of town were gorgeous! It was just what we needed to warm up for the longer hikes!

A beautiful hike with a challenging incline. Recommend hiking boots and hiking poles. There's a great spot at the top with plenty of room to enjoy a break, get a view and prepare for your descent.

This is rated as one of the easiest summits in Banff, with a 2km switchback trail from the upper parking lot to reach the summit. If you aren't a regular climber with hills.....it isn't going to feel easy. It was a good hike up and the switchbacks keep it from being too steep, but this is a constant upwards go, and from the lower parking lot it is even further. But the paths were fairly wide, only became rocky near to the top, and were definitely climbable for all sorts of levels of fitness. We took several breaks on the way up, often to marvel at the view, and enjoyed the climb and the experience. Climbing it in September it was not too busy, though the upper parking lot was full and it is clearly a popular hike. If you are in Banff and want to be able to say you climbed a mountain this one is a good one to do and the views are undeniably gorgeous!

Some steep portions, especially for a flatlands (Houston) like me, but the rewards are great when you reach the top...particular the overlook on the backside of the mountain to the valley and Rockies expanse spread before you. Definitely worth the climb!

This is a must do hike when youโ€™re in Banff. We walked to the trailhead from the hotel. There was plenty of parking in the lower lot. The upper lot was full. While the terrain is easy to navigate youโ€™re literally going straight up a mountain. If youโ€™re a weekend warrior youโ€™ll definitely get a great lung work out. People of all ages on the trail, some with babies strapped on their back. Incredibly saw a few people in Birks and flip flops. We did the trail at 10:30 am and it wasnโ€™t busy. It took about 45 mins to the top starting from the lower parking lot. As we descended it was a lot more crowded with people coming up. The views from both sides of the mountain are incredible. Well worth the trip.
