A small but powerfully engaging museum, Yaowarat Chinatown Heritage Center is located on the second floor of Wat Traimit or Temple of the Golden Buddha. Your journey starts off with presentation that has you peering into a living room where a Thai-Chinese grandfather begins to tell his grandchild about Chinatown’s origins. His reminiscence sets an intimate tone that piques your curiosity. From there, you are well on your way to discover more.

I absolutely enjoyed my visit to this museum. Located on the 2nd floor of What Traimit (temple) at the entrance to Chinatown/Yaowarat, the ticket actually covered two museums - the Golden Buddha museum and the Chinatown Heritage museum. My friends and I paid extra for a guide who introduced us to the history of the temple, and how the Golden Buddha (made from real gold) was casted, lost during the Thai-Burmese war, and later rediscovered. The heritage museum is a walk down memory lane (especially for elder Chinese people who may recognize bits and pieces of their migrant lives) that tells the history of Chinese migration to Siam, how these migrants established their lives in the Yaowarat area, and have integrated into local culture.

Great museum about the history of Yaowarat (modern China town). Very much worth the time and entrance fees if you are interested in history of Bangkok. The exhibition is very well done with a lot of attention to detail and lots of information.

Place is quite small, but mesmerizing and worth to visit. Be aware that this is also a place for buddhist people to pray, so don't forget to respect them.

No trip is complete without checking out Chinatown at Yaowarat Street. The streets are lined with stalls selling scrumptious and mouth-watering food.

A very good exhibition on 2 floors. Very detailed information in Thai, English and Chinese language that you rarely find elsewhere. 2nd floor is about the immigration of Chinese people and culture to Thailand. Don't rush through it. It will take at least 30 minutes to get all the information. The 3rd floor tells the story of the Golden Buddha to that this temple is dedicated. A must see to all who are interested in the history of Bangkok and chinatown. Price for temple and museum visit is 200b.

a worthwhile historical site, the view is beautiful, although the weather is very hot this season, so wear a hat and prepare sunscreen. The scene is open, a bit crowded, but the staff is very quick to support and the entrance fee is not expensive

Great place for food hunting and food souvenirs. Traffic is extremely bad in or to Chinatown. Plan your mode of transport. BTS or MRT is recommended during peak traffic hour (5 pm to 7 pm)

Really liked this. Went in with low expectations for a very local museum, but the museum paints an reasonably intimate picture of a vibrant community. The exhibits are well maintained, though some can be better lit. Painstakingly created and thoughtfully curated, gives you a perspective on the Chinese connection in Thailand through the ages, and also a sense of the history of the place. Totally recommend.

I would highly recommend anyone of Chinese heritage, especially South Chinese to visit. The Chinatown in Bangkok is one of the many Chinatowns in the world where Chinese immigrants settled after leaving their home country due to strife, poverty and hunger. It covers the period from 1700s to post-WW2 This exhibition would give you an insight into the Thai-Chinese community. Perhaps the explainations were one-sided but now I understand why Thai-Chinese own a large part of wealth in Thailand. There is a gallery of how the political happenings and economic history of China drove Chinese people to immigrate, and how it impacted overseas Chinese. Understanding this helps you to reflect on what is happening in the world today Perhaps the exhibition can cover the post-2000s period in the future! Entry is 200Bath including entry to the exhibition on how the golden Buddha was made.

Yaowarat Chinatown is the most crowded and great street food in Bangkok. And one of the World’s 8th Coolest street. I enjoyed my dinner with spicy grilled squid 🦀🐙🦞🦑🦪🍢🥰

For a Thai temple, this is kind of small. But it’s also not a crowed as the more famous ones. We like it because it was close to the MRT and our hotel.
