Amazing park just to relax, chill and watch the world go by... especially in the late afternoon... with the majestic Chao Phraya river nearby, watch the boats... You can also see some old wooden houses nearby, very well kept...

You cannot not enter the fort, but you can walk around the area since the grounds surrounding the fort has been converted into a park. There is also a nice view of the river and some local bands playing.

Very nice place to sit and relax during hot sunny day or evening. The of Rama VIII Bridge at night is mesmerising. Grab a seat near the river side and enjoy sun set. They play music in the evening too.

Perfect place to have a evening stroll, adjoining a beautiful park. The best relaxing spot, where you can even it and pen down your journal or have a read with your kindle or listen to some favorite music of yours. Be at this place to feel that peaceful soothing ambiance just with in close proximity of the most happening place for the back packers.

Beautiful place to come in the mornings or afternoon to just relax and enjoy the quietness. This fort is located within a calm and green park on the river. You can watch the boats pass as you take in the surroundings. There is also a coffee shop in the park on the left end near the water. Food is all around outside the park. Be sure to stop by if Khaosan Road is too chaotic for you.

On Phra A-thit Road the houses are ancient style and the fort is in the corner of the road. It was the city wall. But now only the fort left. That area become the public park for local and tourist to relaxing.

Very interesting fort along side of the river next to a beautiful peaceful park with lots of benches and shade to have a cool drink or relax and just contemplate the meaning of life and watch the river go by. It was free to walk around I didn’t go inside.

Phra Sumen Fort was built during the end of the 18th century by King Rama I in order to protect the city of Bangkok from invasions. It's the only one of two forts (from 14 forts) remain until today. There is a calm park nearby where you can walk in and relax. It's called Suan Santichai prakarn park. Free entrance.

Thailand is becoming a real “Communist Dictator Country”. The Government is pressuring and controlling everywhere. No freedom anymore! Most Thais are still wearing the slavery masks and believe the COVID panic’. Thailand’s tourism slogan “The land of smiles” no longer exist! New Cameras all over the places. In the park it is not allowed to smoke or drink and even cannot take off the shirt for sunbathing. I am done with Thailand. Better visit other countries where there is still freedom to live a free life!

Not really a fort. Very small structure. But there is a park nearby the river. Park is very quiet. Good place to relax. We went in the afternoon still there was many trees and we could sit in shadow. You can also get drinks nearby. If you are visiting Bangkok for few days then not worth visiting. But if you are from Bangkok I stay here then good place to go.

Phra Sumen Fort on the banks of the Chao Phraya River is a brilliant place to relax and escape the madness of the busy Bangkok streets. The beautiful surroundings make it a excellent place to reflect on all that you have seen and done in Thailand. Phra Sumen fort it's self was built during the reign of King Rama I. Although I never went inside I am informed that there is a museum inside which displays items found during the recent modernisation. It's a short walk for the world famous Ko San Road (if you go the right way, unlike me!) and a good place to meet some locals. While I was there I met a young student from a local university who interviewed me for here project on sustainable tourism in Thailand. For people intersent in photography it is also a good place to get some pictures of the relaxed side of Bangkok and the river.

Phra Sumen Fort is just a white fort, nothing more to say about it. But the small park around the fort is a nice place to take a rest, to relax after too much walking - "walk, walk, walk", like my wife describes our day trips - and just to look at the river. Bangkok busyness with its all too many cars and traffic jams can be a stressing place, so it's good that there are parks there and there in Bangkok to spend some time to get back your curiousity, and after that, let's walk again...

Phra Sumen Fort is just a white fort, nothing more to say about it. But the small public park around the fort is a nice place to take a rest, to relax after long marathon day of walking. Beside the fort along with riverside just next to the picturesque park, numerous places to take a rest, have a cool drink and enjoy the moment. Oh wait, the Rama VIII bridge is the nice spot one for you to enjoy your day ; especially if you were here at night time.

Decent place to escape the bustling street marchers and traffic and just to have a quick sit down by the river Chaophraya. There’s also a free public toilet in the vicinity.

There was no fort as such but the park outside was awesome. You can sit there and enjoy the river view and the river breeze.

Nice little corner park, with the fort in the middle. Plenty of trees for shade, and views of the river and canals. Only giving low score due to annoying and persistent tuk tuk drivers and people wanting to take you on tours. Otherwise it would have been the perfect rest place between stops.

Beautiful and nice place to sit relaxing, green grass and clean environment,,, I love this place and I never feel bored to visit this place for me quite comfortable.

The park where the fort is located closes at 9pm. Guards will blow their whistle somewhat like the end of a soccer match to rally the people out. It is unfortunate as the place is a great hangout at night overlooking the Rama bridge. It is a majestic place overall and a must visit when in Bangkok.

One of the few old forts still left to survive to this day. It was originally built to defend the old town from being attacked by the enemies from the river. There is also a park surrounding the fort where you can relax and enjoy the riverside view. Nearby there is also a museum that tells you bits of history about the old town and Banglamphu area.

This little park has something special about it. Is the light sparkling off the river, filtering through the shape of Lumpu trees? Easy to be quiet and grounded again at Phra Sumen Park.

An old fort located in a park, beside river. The fort is looking good and beautiful. However, it is closed and tourists are not allowed to enter into the fort. The octagonal fort is built of masonry on a 2-metre (6 ft 7 in)-deep spread footing foundation. It is 45 meters (148 ft) in diameter, and has a height of 10.5 meters (34 ft) measured to top of the battlements of the upper level. The fort has rectangular battlements on the lower level, and is topped by a roofed heptagonal tower, which collapsed sometime during the reigns of kings Rama V to Rama VII and was rebuilt in 1981 to celebrate the bicentennial of the city's foundation.

An ancient Thai military fort located near the scenic park with a majestic view of the equally stunning suspension bridge overlooking the roaring Chao Phraya river. Lots of community activity like dancing, picnic, or just people watching chilling in the park. No alcohols and smoking allowed.

Beautiful fort set in a beautiful park on the river. A perfect place to rest and relax, watch the river traffic or to do tai chi or yoga under shady trees. Terrific spot to watch the sunset as well take in the beautiful lit up Rama VII bridge at night. 26/1/22 A word of warning. I was told by one of the guards to put my T shirt back on and face mask as well close to the end of my exercises. When in Rome….yes.

ancient fort, very peaceful surrounding. The fortifications of Bangkok consist of several series of defensive structures built to protect the city during the late Ayutthaya to early Rattanakosin periods. The earliest structures were built when Bangkok was an outpost of Ayutthaya guarding entry to the Chao Phraya River during the 15th–16th centuries. These were reinforced when the city became the site of the short-lived capital of Thonburi after the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767. New walls and forts were built when the city of Rattanakosin replaced Thonburi in 1782, which were mostly removed and replaced in the second half of the 19th century in order to accommodate the expanding city. Today, four of the city's defensive forts remain, along with two short sections of the Rattanakosin city wall and one of the city gates.

Nice piece of Bangok history. Quite photogenic with park surrounding on one side. Gated off to forbid entry is kind of disappointing but no attendant so understand. Prefer fix up a little and attend so tourists. An witness your history. Still a beautiful site to see next to the river with many beautiful spots to photo.

One of the series Ports that were built to protect the city from the enemy ships in the past. It has the green space around it to enhance the old port.

I come here at least once whenever I visit Bangkok. The fort is nice although I don‘t know much about it. What makes this place special is the surrounding green area which is well looked after. It‘s an oasis of calm in an otherwise buzzing and exhausting city. Especially if you are in the Khao San area. Find yourself a nice spot on the grass in the shadow and chill for a while before you continue the explore the sprawl which is Bangkok.
