Check in to start was a disaster. Despite knowing they had a large group coming, they didn’t have anything prepared for us. They refused to book us an airport transfer in advance & was a struggle to get them to make a fresh breakfast for those of us leaving really early (we paid for it). We booked and paid for a twin room with 2 beds, not a bunk bed room. I am sure that although the rooms were probably clean, they appeared very dirty. I refused to walk bare foot and luckily was only there one night so didn’t need to shower. On to the beds……. I am not kidding you when I say I will need to seek a medical professional after sleeping on that bed for one night. I have slept on pool tables and floors more comfortable. I was woken up three times due to being in pain & needing to move. I understand that we are in a hostel, but this is one of the worse I’ve stayed in in a long time. I shouldn’t need to book a chiropractor , physio & massage in order to feel better again.

Nooki and Jackie doing the tours are amazing! They were without a doubt the best part of my stay. As for the rest: rooms, beds, lockers, showers are okay. Not great but not bad. The bar is too expensive in comparison to others around the area. It is really really annoying that you cannot take anything from outside to eat or drink in the common areas. The best they have is a little bench. It feels like they are trying to take your money at every step of the way, without really providing a value. The bar could be quite nice, but the music is way too loud. If you care about the social scene, pub crawls, tours etc, you can just walk in and book, you don't have to be a hostel guest.

Given the number of positive reviews & the popularity of this hostel, I had high expectations staying at this hostel on my second night in Bangkok. Apart from the lively atmosphere and super hospitable staff, getting a good night's sleep here was impossible. It was loud 24/7 in the hallways (presumably full of drunk tourists returning from parties). The AC in my dorm did not have a remote and was impossible to turn on until I requested the staff come and fix it. The beds were clean enough but were super hard and uncomfortable. It felt like you were sleeping on a sheet of steel the whole night. If you only want to room to crash in after partying all night, this hostel is for you. Otherwise, I would avoid staying here.

Great Hostel and a perfect location. Awesome spot for solo travellers thanks to their friendly Staff. Big thank you to Martino and Nikki for rallying all the guests into going out, and making sure everyone had a great time. Martino took us on a day tour and was very knowledgeable and made sure to answer everyone’s questions. Will definitely stay here again if I’m back in Bangkok!

First and foremost, the hostel's location is worth mentioning. Situated in a vibrant part of Bangkok, it offers easy access to popular attractions, bustling markets, and a wide range of dining and entertainment options. The hostel is conveniently located near public transportation, making it a breeze to explore the city's wonders. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler, the hostel's location serves as an excellent base for your Bangkok adventures. One of the standout features of Mad Monkey Hostel is its social atmosphere. As a solo traveler, I found it incredibly easy to meet like-minded individuals and make new friends. The hostel organizes various activities and events, fostering a sense of community and ensuring an engaging experience for guests. From pub crawls to group excursions, there was always something happening that encouraged interaction and created a fun-filled environment. The dormitory-style accommodations at Mad Monkey were comfortable and well-maintained. While the rooms were not overly spacious, they provided everything needed for a pleasant stay, including comfortable beds and individual lockers to secure personal belongings. The hostel also offered private rooms for those seeking a bit more privacy. Mad Monkey Hostel boasts an array of facilities designed to enhance the overall experience of its guests. The common areas are vibrant and lively, providing ample space for socializing, relaxing, and meeting fellow travelers. While Mad Monkey Hostel Bangkok caters primarily to a young and energetic crowd, it may not be the best fit for those seeking a tranquil and serene environment. The lively atmosphere and social nature of the hostel can sometimes result in noise during peak times, so it's worth considering if you prefer a quieter setting.

We liked the vibe a lot. They hired great people here, specifically John who was just an all around great dude. He was a good mix of professional and fun, plus a good conversationalist. The facilities are clean enough, pool is a nice touch. My main issue with the place is that you WILL be woken up at 9am by the cleaning staff. Someone in management thought it would be a great idea to clean the rooms at 9am each day. This is a party hostel. Most of us come home at 4am in desperate need of a good night sleep. Each and every day we were rudely awoken by a cleaning lady. We even complained once and were simply yelled at in Thai. Do not even bother speaking with them. The beds are extremely hard as well, and they basically give you a large towel as a ‘blanket’. If you get a room on the second floor...good luck sleeping at all. All in all, if you want to party and get 0 hours of sleep, this is your place.

This review is a little late. My husband and I stayed at MM Bangkok in October and our experience was awful. The only reason I didn’t write this review sooner was because we had other stays at mad monkey booked and I was afraid they would get canceled without refund if I wrote this. I will admit we were there longer than most people, but in the time we were there it sucked. Our first week there the water went out for 48 hours, meaning no toilets or showers and no communication from staff the first 36 hours. No trying to accommodate us elsewhere, no refunds, nothing. A girl in my room projectile vomited all over everything and my other roommate told the front desk and it took 12 hours for them to clean it up. (Pic below) Another girl in my room had a panic attack after she was harassed by a fellow male guest and had her phone and room key stolen (HUGE SAFETY ISSUE) and wanted to leave the hostel and hostel staff came in at 3 am and told her she couldn’t leave until she found her key. I had two girls in my room who constantly opened my curtains and shook me awake because I was snoring, and when I asked reception to move ME, they said no they would move the girls. I showed back up 8 hours later and the girls were still there unmoved and they proceeded to yell at me and tell me not to snore (sorry can’t turn that off), so I told the front desk and the front desk proceeded to kick me out of my room and put me into another room while housekeeping stood over my shoulder and rushed me out. All of which could have been avoided if they had moved me when I asked that morning. For reference I asked to move rooms at 9 am and I was kicked out at 5 pm. Nothing was done to the girls who kept touching me. But hostel staff had the audacity to beg me not to leave when I went to a different hotel for the night. As other people have said the hostel has a mosquito problem. I stayed at other hotels twice during my stay (no running water and after the girl problems) and I had no issues at those hotels. Hostel staff open windows when cleaning and my legs got torn to shreds while I was sleeping. Yes I put mosquito spray on but by the time I woke up it was worn off. (Pics below) I was in a female only dorm, and the amount of times men ended up in my dorm was annoying. The first week I was there there were no curtains, and I was asleep in my underwear, and girls brought men in to hook up in the bathroom and they ogled me in my underwear. The music is so loud that you can hear it word for word up on the fourth floor, they blast loud music all night and then the cleaning staff gets up super early and are loud in the morning, so if you want to sleep good luck. (Another video below, I keep receipts) Rooms are dirty and the bathroom door needs to be closed at all times because it smells so bad like a port-a potty. And the WiFi doesn’t work in most rooms. Sorry for the long review, but basically what I’m getting at is if you want any sleep whatsoever, any privacy and don’t want to be eaten alive by mosquitos or have people throw up all over your stuff stay away. If you want to get blackout drunk, and hook up with someone in a bathroom, who possibly has an STD (guy in my husbands dorm bragged about having an STD) this is the place for you. I’ve stayed at hostels all over the world, some for long stays like this one, and this is by far the worst experience I’ve ever ever had. And for those of you wondering why I stayed for so long and put up with so much, I could not afford to rebook all of my Mad Monkey stays, unfortunately, we had a golden ticket and had three months worth of stays booked at Mad Monkey. It was either deal with it, or go back home and lose out on a whole six-month trip. If I could’ve checked out day one I would have. I’ve attached photos and videos.

Did not have a good experience. Room was very underwhelming and looked better in the pictures. Worst part was the lack of blanket. You get a large towel to use as a blanket, but you don’t receive an actual blanket and will have to buy one. Also, in my opinion the social vibe was super weird. Don’t go if you’re under 28 years old. Lobby is not a nice place to hang out and chill if that’s what you’re looking for too.

I had an absolutely amazing time at Mad Monkey Bangkok! The property was great and a wonderful atmosphere! Jake was incredible! He made sure everyone was always having a great time and really took His time to introduce solo travelers to each other! He is one of a kind and a fantastic host! Can’t say enough good things about him as well as the rest of the staff. They make you feel so comfortable and welcome in Bangkok! Can’t wait to get back! Thank you!

Mad Monkey was our first hostel experience. We were very impressed with the effort that the staff put in to make it a good time for the guests. Jack made a lasting impression on us and we will definitely recommend that other travelers check this hostel out and take a tour with Jack!

One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in! The staff were all so amazing and friendly (special shout-out to Yanisa, Apple and Jamie). The hostel organise so many events and activities so it’s great for groups and solo-travellers as you get to meet so many new people. The food was also amazing and great value. Would definitely recommend!

Awesome hostel. Such a fun atmosphere. The pool is a nice place to chill during the day and escape the craziness of Bangkok, there’s welcome drinks every night for new people, the reps are so friendly and get everyone involved (shout out to Cerys!) so it is perfect for solo travellers. Rooms are clean, beds are comfy, bathrooms cleaned daily. Even when the bar is noisy it’s still quiet in your room so is easy to get some sleep. Will definitely be back next time I’m in Bangkok!

I had such a great time at Mad Monkey's hostel! Even though I stayed only one night, I enjoyed it to the fullest. All staff is really friendly! Especially Martini and Jack who were very welcoming and invited me to join them in the games! Their common area is also pretty great, there is even a swimming pool! I totally recommend it!

One of the best hostels I’ve stayed at. I’m usually a little unsure of party hostels as I like to chill as well but this place was perfect. Chilled by the pool and bar in the day, then a fun party at night - but if you don’t fancy it, the rooms are quiet and you can’t hear the music from the bar. Staff were friendly and the rep’s spoke to everyone and got them all to mix - Cece was great and so funny! Rooms were clean and comfortable and location was perfect. Will stay again next time i’m In Bangkok! :)

One of the best party hostel in Bangkok, I stayed there for 2nights with my friends and we had a lot of fun.Rooms are clean and spacious, room service team cleans rooms and common area daily. There is a swimming pool back side of hostel, Everyday after 7pm party starts here. They party like mad. The pub crawl of mad monkey is just awesome. If you are a party animal then this is the best place for you.

Service was brilliant, the staff are all very friendly. Tae the tour guide was really good I would recommend asking him for advice and also going on his tours if you want to get some Thai knowledge whilst you’re here in Bangkok. Rooms were good I met a lot of people in through my room mates and also the bar area. All rooms have lockers and are very safe.

The stay was amazing and so does the place. The rooms were nice but they could’ve kept the AC remote. The people who work there are so cool. We were totally vibing with them. Nookie, Alex, Mark, Brook and Simon are so friendly. Nookie shared lot of stories and chocolates with us during city tour. She was sweet. Mark is so cool he will give you a very good company. I got my first tattoo and thanks to Brook as she suggested the place. We asked for something and Alex not just guided but he walked us to the store and got us the things we needed. I really loved the stay. Thanks folks and Madmonkey team.

My recent stay at Mad Monkey Hostel - Bangkok was fun. I like how the set up of the restaurant and pool. The hostel is clean and you feel secured and safe. The staff at the restaurant are so friendly and helpful, especially Apple. The volunteers are so friendly and will make sure that you will enjoy your stay. Big shoutout to Roger and Brooke!

A great place to stay for solo travellers or groups. Extremely friendly staff with a big shout out to Alex & Brooklyn who were incredibly attentive, informative and a great laugh. The pub crawl is an absolute must!! If you are going into Bangkok and want a social hostel definitely book Mad Monkey!

My main man Conner was the highlight for me - GIVE THIS MAN A RAISE! He was so informational and helpful to entire time. Been traveling Asia for 7 weeks now and this is hands down the best hostel I've stayed in. If you're looking for a good time this is definitely your place. They alway have stuff going on from tours to pub crawls. There will be something for you here. A+++

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Mad Monkey Bangkok, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations for a party hostel! From the moment I arrived until the day I checked out, the staff at Mad Monkey created an incredible atmosphere that made my stay unforgettable. The staff here were so friendly and helpful. I want to express my sincere gratitude to “Yanisa” and “champ” you guys really made me love Bangkok. Yanisa is the most friendly and kind staff I’ve ever come across. Lastly, I cannot forget to mention the fantastic events and activities organized by Mad Monkey. Whether it was pub crawls, city tours, or themed parties, there was always something exciting happening. These activities not only helped to foster a sense of camaraderie among guests but also allowed us to explore Bangkok together and create lasting memories. The best hostel in BKK Hope to visit you soon

First off, it’s an extremely social hostel, like you will have no trouble getting friends for life! The beds are long, so it’s no problem for tall people. The pillows are great, the ac is great. The only thing to mention is that it wouldn’t hurt to have a curtain covering the shower so the water doesn’t splash everywhere.

I had a Great time staying at Mad Monkey. Tom was an incredibly laid-back and nice to talk to, and the rest of the staff were welcoming and friendly aswell. The amenities were top-notch, featuring a refreshing pool and a relaxed smoking area outfitted with bean bags. Daily events were organized to help you connect with other travelers, making the experience even more memorable. The location couldn't be better, being close to diverse dining options and a famous night market—a regular evening haunt for our group. The market offered a lively atmosphere with ping pong and a wide range of bars and clubs to choose from. For those interested, cannabis is readily available and reasonably priced. However, a word of caution regarding room rates: they can vary substantially based on occupancy, sometimes almost doubling from one day to the next. If you're planning an extended stay, it's advisable to book and pay in advance to lock in your rate.

Wow, I have to say, our experience was absolutely first class! The party hosts were simply amazing and incredibly friendly. Special shout out to Connor, who not only provided us with fantastic advice and assistance, but also made us feel right at home. Such a wonderful atmosphere!

Really great time here! The staff are super accommodating and made me feel very comfortable and safe, which is the thing I was most worried about when I started travelling. I know for next time if I'm in the country, I'm definitely staying here. Holly in specific was amazing, thank you for your hospitality in the duration of my stay!

Nice rooms and plenty of storage space for each bed. So it's really nice to sleep in - the location is really nice too. It was really hard to find the hostel even though I followed the description that was sent to me via email. From the train station you should take bus 59. Finding the stop was really not easy - the bus driver then said he wasn't going there. In the end I took a taxi - which went quickly. I have visited many party hostels on my travels. mad monkey seemed to be one too. Unfortunately, the flair didn't spread to me - it felt very compulsive. Maybe I'm getting too old for that. All in all, nice, clean hostel, good location, but not a party hostel

I booked a private room for a 2 weeks stay in November 2023. The private room was okay, but none of the windows opened and it was completely stuck. I had to turn on the AC day and night. Other then that, the overall atmosphere was okay, there's the whole hostel scenery downstairs with teens from different countries having drinks each night. Suggest getting a headphone if you need to have an early rest or you'll end up waiting till 10pm for the bar to close and music to die down. Amenities are close by and easy to get a Grab for food orders and pickups at any time.

The overall experience of meeting new people and staying there was too good. The hostel is beautifully located close to the khao San road and just opp to 7 eleven, so everything is sorted. The rooms were clean and the food was just amazing.

It was my first time in a hostel and I really enjoyed staying there. I'd like to say a big thank you to the staff who were very kind from the moment I arrived and professional. Madmonkey has really nice spaces to have a good time and meet new people.

Location is great and rooms are very clean and well organized. The issue there is the service. Almost no one speaks english well, which makes very hard the communication. They also don’t provide any help with tours or suggestions, only parties. If you are looking for partying only, this is the place for you. When we managed to ask for their help to go to Aiuthaya, all sorts of wrong things happened, so we avoided asking any further help and we did by ourselves. You cannot enter the hostel with external drinks or food, as they want you to consume from their bar. Anyways, the rooms and location are nice, thats it, nothing else. No service.

Hassle free check in ,chill staff , rooms are neat and tidy , as well architecture and ambience gives a cool vibe , bar is lively at night and pub crawls are must be done , people from various ethnicity and culture comes together as whole at this place , convience store is just opposite the hostel. Also the pool is love .

It's a nice hostel but purely commercial.. nice parties.. cheaper food from any other restaurant around.. commercial in a way that they charge for almost everything. Didn't have a locker, you have to buy a lock worth 85 Baht.. Insane right? Swimming pool water has lot of chlorine.. and if u ask the reception for volleyball, you have to buy it for 200 baht. :P I liked the staff. Had a walking tour with one of the guides from hostel and it was pretty awesome. If you are travelling in a group, this is a nice place to stay in Bangkok.

It was a nice experience considering you wanna enjoy your heart out. It's a great place for people who love to drink and meet new people. The in-house hostel events are great to have fun and pool party is amazing. But as two of my friends were vegan, there is almost no option for them to eat at hostel restaurant, the staff neither provided drinking water nor they will allow you to use microwave to eat your packed ready to eat package

  • 4/5 Nikhil J. 3 years ago on Google
Though we didn't spend much time here except for to sleep, but it was clean, beds were okay. Bathroom were too clear. Everything one can expect at this budget. Nothing to complain about.

  • 5/5 Nitesh Giri G. 4 years ago on Google
Lit, young, noisy (in a good way) and what not. The best place to stay in this area. You meet people from different countries, you'd love to interact with them. There's a pub crawl that takes place twice a week for not so high price which you'd definitely want to experience. They do give free shots during pool parties and certain events which you'd not want to miss again. The staff is helpful and the rooms are beautiful and clean. Pricing of the rooms is nominal (probably best in the area). Go ahead make your bookings here without any doubts.

Mad Monkey has been the most amazing start to my Asia trip!! The location is great, the social area makes it so easy to meet people and the volunteers are wonderful!! Jack and Jess are so friendly and won’t leave anybody sat by themselves, they’ll make sure you’re included and having a great time!! Can not recommend enough :)

Great social vibe, everyone’s always enjoying themselves and everyone is always welcome. The beers are slightly over normal bar prices at 115 baht, but the game nights and free shots here and there do make up for it. Definitely give it a go, Khao San is right around the corner. Good nights were had!

Cannot say enough good things about staying here. The neighborhood is perfect for exploring, good food and great nightlife, the bar in the hostel is great for working during the day and getting out of hand at night, but really it was the staff that put it over the top. They’re all insanely nice and know how to help you make the most of your trip. Glad to call many of them friends now! Special shoutouts to Jack, Pat, other Jack (in from Cambodia temporarily), Nicaela, Jackie, Yu and everyone else for making my birthday weekend one to remember.

  • 5/5 Roger R. 1 year ago on Google
This place was fun!! But also a healthy balance to find tours or just sightsee. Joke pronounced Jack was super helpful with ideas to explore the city and things to watch out for. As far as the hostel vibe and nightlife Nicaela kept things fun and lively. Not sure how she keeps the fun going day after day but by the end of your trip you will be calling her your friend. She also planned a fun social dinner at this bbq place near the river.. that was an adventure on its own. Full staff was amazing. Hostel bar made good drinks. Food was good and on par with local eateries. Beds were on the firm side. Rooms average plus for a hostel. Awesome pool. Security was never an issue. Good location. Easy walk to Khaosan road. Close enough to easily get anywhere by quick taxi, grab, or tuk tuk. Will miss this place and the friends I made at Mad Monkey. Well done Bangkok.

4 dorm room was lovely, enough space for everyone, nice bathroom, compared to other dorms, really top! Location is amazing, close to the center (khao san road) but still quiet. Excellent street food just out of the door. And the best thing is the community, just spent 2 days there but met lots of lovely people. Its just nice to hang out at the pool or the bar and people will start getting in touch. They have free activities to join almost every day (beer pong, free shots, free sightseeing tour -> shoutout to Nicaela :) Very recommended place to stay if you are an open person willing to meet people and having a good time!

We went to Bangkok as our first destination in Thailand and I can tell you Mad monkey is the place to stay if you want to meet new people and do all kind off fun activities together. During our stay in Mad Monkey Hostel we have met dozens of nice and social guests and employees. With a special shoutout to Jack and Nicaela for bringing the group together and always having a kind smile on their faces!! Will surely stay there again if I ever visit Bangkok again.

When traveling the best times are made by the people you meet and experiences you have. Fortunately, Mad Monkey has a team of hosts and staff that will make you feel welcome and included from the moment you check in. Jack, Martino, and Nikayla all immediately introduced themselves to me, showed me around the city, local food spots and fun night life activities. I was literally halfway across the world and never felt more at home. If you are solo traveling or looking for friends to meet along the way of your travels look no further than the friendly smiling faces you will encounter at Mad Monkey. Have fun and safe travels :)

Loved this place! It’s definitely the place to stay in Bangkok! As soon as I arrived here I dropped my bag off in my room and was down in the bar meeting other backpackers. Once the bar closed, most people headed out on a bar crawl which was great. I spent three nights here and it was a great start to my trip around Thailand. I would highly recommend this place to anyone staying in Bangkok and looking to meet people!

Awesome place to meet people and enjoy the busy side of Bangkok. The rooms were clean and very basic. Mad Monkeys is right in the center of Bangkok and you are walking distance from the Khao San Road, supermarkets, shopping and restaurants. Would come back if I’m in Bangkok again.

I had a great time at mad monkey. I loved the evening activity there. Moreover the environment was lively. Rooms and washrooms were neat and clean. Walking distance to market and clubs. Pool area is also good for relaxation.
