(Translated by Google) Walk out from Sanam Chai MRT to the entrance. Admission fee for adults is 100 baht. Inside is not wow (Maybe because we are Thai and familiar with these things) But conveys a 100% Thai style It is beautiful, it is really unique in presentation in Thai style. I like it. Take photos and enjoy it, each corner is beautiful. 🥰 Recommend foreigners to visit Definitely not disappointed (Original)

We took a boat and got down at the nearest pier and walkes around 950 meters to reach this place. It was all small alleys and the people were doing their daily stuff. It is an interesting walk and since Thai people are very nice, it is safe to walk in those alleys (it is an experience, alleys are probably 4 to 6 ft wide). Once we reached this place, it is amazing. Not a very big museum with lots of displays. But worth visiting. If you take a private boat ride, then there is a stop here on the front side of it. Very large boats used by royals, in good condition after a king restored it. Restrooms are there and very clean.

You can reach this place by getting off the Chao Phraya Express Boat (Orange Flag) at the Pinklao Bridge stop and then walking through some small back alleys to the museum. There are far more Royal Barges stored by the Thai Navy elsewhere, but here you can see eight of the finest. Each barge is beautifully carved and gilded lacquer and mirrored glass decoration. You must pay an additional fee to take photos here. These Barges are still used by royalty on very special occasions.

The Royal barges museum is a wonderful place to tour that takes only 45 minutes to an hour to see. There are posters written in Thai and English to orient you to the rich history surrounding the barges and their use in royall processions on the river, as well as two short films. The barges themselves are majestic, approximately 100 ft long and spanning the length of the museum. They actually do go out on the river still to mark special occasions. The complexity of their decoration is astounding and quite beautiful. Pay attention to the mythological figures on the bow of each barge. Tickets are only 100 baht, but you must pay an extra 100 baht if you want to take photographs. We'll with the price of admission.

100bt to look at 8 boats, another 100bt to photograph them - totally not worth the money. Also hard to find and the guards are rude

Cash 100THB entrance fee and another 100THB to be permitted to take photos .. STRICTLY NO VIDEO RECORDING PERMITTED... English well spoken.. and after signing in...I was permitted to browse in peace. First thing to note.. the museum is not directly accessible by road ( read taxi) .. so you end up walking the last short distance in the back streets and soi's to get to this point of interest. Quiet and calm neighbourhood .. hairdresser or two... a stray dog.. and a radio playing somewhere.. Enter the Royal Barge Museum... floating splendour majestically displayed to reveal elegance of Royalty and sublime craftsmanship that adorn these barges. Demon that devours the wind... The Serpent King.. Garuda on the wind.. sheer poetry. Perhaps not as riveting as a social media visit to Wat Arun, but for the Naval and Nautical enthusiasts this museum will delight. Enjoy!

A hidden gem tucked away on the banks of the Chao Praya river. Difficult to capture the full scale of these magnificent gilded barges in pictures. Impressive in person and definitely worth the stop to check them out for yourself.

Facts: - 100 baht per person for entry - 100 baht per person to take photos with your own camera Good: - get to see some interesting looking boats made for royalty Bad: - messy - lots of construction - really not much to see for the price they charge - charge to take photos, really? - very out of the way, lots of walking to get there Verdict: - not worth your precious time in bangkok to come see this. Many other great places to see

This is one of the unique museum inside the thiland , bangkok. Here you can see the big royal barges used by the king . All together there is 8 barges and they are painted in red and golden color and designed with glass . The biggest boat is more than 45 meter long . Only in four year this boats run in the river for show . Entry ticket to the museum is 100 baht . Any type of camera need 100 baht extra .

Another tucked away gem definitely worth a visit - arriving or leaving by public boat bud (16 THB) is also worth considering as the life of the river and the four of the barges in the museum really comes to life like this - then enjoy the elegant collection of royal barges - a great one for boat geeks !

The museum displays amazing royal barges. It's located over a canal and there are platforms to walk. There are around 10 royal barges with splendid ornament of gold. You cannot go too close to them. There is an entry fees and incase you want to take pictures you have to purchase another ticket for the same. Museum is not very busy and you need not to make prior booking. There is not much to watch ( will hardly take half an hour to cover everything) but whatever is there is worth watching.

Beautiful barges and interesting history of the royal barges can be found here. I only give this three stars due to the museum closing unexpectedly fifteen minutes after we arrived (contrary to the open hours posted at the entry gate). Despite this, we definitely got our 200 baht worth (the cost of two entry tickets) in the short amount of time that we were there. Unless you are arriving by boat, be prepared to navigate a labyrinth of alleyways filled with friendly people to get there. Trust the sign posts and/or Google Maps to get there and you will be fine.

Very beautiful, ornately carved, boats dating back many years. Only 100 BHT (less than $3 US dollars) The walk to the museum was the highlight as you walk down narrow walkways past homes, stalls and shops next to a canal. Just outside the museum is a sweet older man offering boat rides, beer and water. He has an adorable bird that sings and puffs up right in front of his shop.

Despite having visited Bangkok many times, visiting this off-the-regular-path museum was worth the visit and trek. It’s very unique as the Royal barges are propped above the river’s waters, and the barges are long, and very exquisitely made. And hardly any tourists. There are explanations in both English and Thai. Highly recommended.

It's a must see place that's not as advertised for Bangkok. They store all the royal barges here from the first to the newest. To see it on television as its being used is one thing, but to get close and personal is a whole different feeling. You see the intricacies and details that went into creating these works of art.

This is a small but fun museum for the history, the barges, and seeing the craftsmen and women restore and maintain these crafts. We can by boat to the Museum dock and that was a bit of an adventure getting there. Half of the barges were being repaired or restored. It was a delight to see the work being done and we spoke briefly with the workers. A short film explaining the barge tradition and history was interesting. We returned via another adventure and walked through the back streets about a half mile to the river to catch a water taxi. It was fun and interesting explorations.

The museum of royal barges is a fascinating place to visit. View and learn all about the royal barges, used by the royal family and their many oarsmen. Learn the history behind them. Some of the barges even have damage caused by bombing in World War Two. Painted in gold leaf, and decorated with wood carvings, with amazing attention to detail, the barges are a spectacular sight. A little difficult to find, but if you make the effort, you’ll be glad you did.

I got off the main road and couldn't find the entrance, but I had to go through an iron gate after passing through a troop or something. It used to be a royal vessel, but when I looked at it, I felt that it was large in size and clunky and not gorgeous. (Don't expect to see the elaborate sculptures you saw in Cambodia's temples.) It's like a ship used for the event, but you have to be happy to see it up close. There is no air-conditioning during the exhibition because it is an outdoor ceiling facility.

Love the museum and glad to see such museum in Thailand. Presentation is interesting (not boring). There are gamify a few display, so people and kids can enjoy it very much indeed. It is a good place to bring kids to show them what Thai is. The ticket is only 100thb for adults and 50 for students. Kids under certain age is free(sorry, i dont remember the number exactly). Locker and audio guide is free for your request. The tour start on the third floor. There is also an elevator for older people or for people who are not comfortable clmibing the stairs. Staff in each room is very helpful and ready to educate you and your kids. There are some room that they do have costume for you to try on and take some good photo. Overall is just great.

Modern, fun, interactive & informative museum! I learnt a lot about ‘Thaism’ which left me feeling in awe of this beautiful country! Definitely worth a visit while in Bangkok. I hired headphones however didn’t end up using them - they were a bit chunky and outdated, everything is in English anyway & I visited with a Thai friend so we really didn’t need them. The information from the headphones would have probably offered more detail but I was happy enough with what was already on offer - up to you though. You have to hand in personal ID (passport, work permit, visa, drivers license etc) as a deposit which some people might feel uncomfortable about. While I’m at it, I would also recommend eating by the river afterwards. We visited Krua Khun Kung in the Navy Base (opposite The Grand Palace) which served fabulous food (oysters were huge, creamy & crunchy 😋) and very reasonably priced. Have fun!

Getting to this place is not easy but worth it. To me, these royal barges represent the very essence of Thai royal culture. Strongly recommend to go but beware of the boat fee. The staffs are somewhat associated with water taxi operators and ask you to pay ridiculously high fee.

  • 5/5 Dumdee 2 years ago on Google
One of the "must see" museums in Bangkok. Well worth the entrance/photography fees. These barges are simply stunning.

  • 5/5 Jana B. 2 years ago on Google
You get to ponder the most significant wooden royal longboats, and you learn about the procession tradition from video a displays, which is in and of itself a fascinating part of Thai culture.

  • 4/5 Ittipat P. 2 years ago on Google
The royal barges were once used daily by the royal family to get about their realm, but are now used only for grand ceremonies. The most convenient way to get to the museum is by taking a motorcycle taxi from Tha Saphan Phra Pin Klao.

It's nice to learn about the history and see actual images of how they were used but for 200 baht per person is a bit much... also you need to pay extra for pictures(per camera per person) Alot of the boats were being worked on and some out for the kings coronation so that didnt work in our favour.

  • 5/5 Rosie J. 1 year ago on Google
We stopped here as part of a boat tour. You can only get there by boat. It was actually one of our favorite stops in Bangkok. We were the only tourists there at the time. The boats are very impressive! I do wish the surrounding water area had been cleaner, there was a lot of trash.

  • 3/5 Sukura S. 4 years ago on Google
The barges are very beautiful but it's difficult to take pictures of them because they are so long and the way they are sitting in the water. They charge extra for taking pictures as well, per camera or phone camera.

Very cool to get up close to these boats and see people working on them. It’s incredible to see how much detailed work goes into preparing these boats. Getting there is kind of tricky and there’s not a lot of reliable resources on the internet. From the “hop on - hop off boats” you disembark at the N11 Thonburi railway pier. From here you walk inland past some food vendors and small market area toward a traffic bridge. Make sure you stay on the canal side (not hospital side) of the market area. You can see the big roof covered dock across the canal. When you get under the traffic bridge you find stairs on the far side of the bridge. Go up the stairs and cross the bridge. When you get to the other side cross back under the bridge and walk towards the barge museum (back to toward the Chao Phraya River). You’ll reach a court yard type place with a gate and some type of military staff. Go through the gate and then you’ll make your way through some small alley to the museum. It’s not far from this courtyard area and there will be signs. Many locals working in the restaurants and coffee shops near the pier have no idea where the museum is or that it even exists. So take careful considerations if you get directions from them. We were directed several times to a place further up the canal where some racing type barge / boats were. But I knew that wasn’t the place because I could see the royal barge building right across the canal.

From main road need walk inside a 1,5mt narrow road ; have information how to reach the place. Can pay cash or book online but price depend on what like to do , everything need to pay separately , is incredible. Some boat history , interesting but not so special as expected.

Really cool display of old and modern Thai royal barges, along with oars, flags, etc. All in very good condition, with short info panels in English and Thai. 100 bhat for entry, extra charge for photos. It's located pretty far down some rustic residential streets, a nice little walk.

A great shame that the 1939 world war destroyed these boats. But they have been rebuilt and are worth a visit. Entry fees at the time of my visit would be 100 for no camera. 200 including still camera. 300 total to take video. It is a cute narrow, but long, alleyway to walk into the museum. I didn't come in off the river.

  • 5/5 Posa B. 10 months ago on Google
This is a gem. We were the only tourists out there. Here you can see the royal fleet used in ceremonies. Barges from the time of Rama I, III, IV, VI, IX. Most of them rebuild, some of them not. Especially the one damaged in WW2 are perserved but not rebuilt. Should visit.

  • 3/5 Krishna V. 9 months ago on Google
The walkway to the museum is through back alleys and it was a fairly long walk, close to a km. The museum itself was ok - there were around 8 barges, so not a large collection.
