A Canadian Review: 500 THB to enter which makes it the most expensive temple to enter in Bangkok. However, you get access to Grand Palace, a free tour at 10:30am or 1pm, the Queen's museum, and the textile museum. Is it iconic and very beautiful? Absolutely! Is it mandatory to see it when you have equally beautiful and cheaper temples? Absolutely not! If you like golden pagodas, and large structures, then it's a must see attraction. Highly recommend, but not mandatory if on a budget!

I find it difficult to come up with words to describe the experience of visiting this remarkable temple. Its opulence is extraordinary, and yet, upon entering I was filled with a sense of tranquility such as I haven’t felt in a while. Perhaps the sincerity of many of those who entered to worship had its effect on me. Regardless, this is a temple that must be experienced to be understood. No photos are allowed in the interior. I believe that’s the way it should be.

If you were to visit only one temple in Bangkok, it might as well be this one. As glamorous and grandiose as a temple can get. Without mentioning the beautiful gardens and scenery. They change guards periodically and go marching in groups around protecting the palace. As long as you're respectful and don't break any rules, you should have a great time. And if you happen to be a Buddhist or have similar beliefs, then you'll have a wonderful time. Even kids might enjoy seeing the giants and sculptures all over the place. Don't skip on the museum of the Queens fabric. No pictures are allowed on most of the classic dresses and outfits.

Even as local, I still can't get enough of this temple. It's elegant craft and detail worked that's go into building this temple is absolutely astounding. It can get very how during the day (especially during the Summer) best time to visit is very early in the morning when the temple just open. It's also good to try to avoid the crowds. Make sure to take the time to enjoy the wall painting along the temple.

Iconic tourist destination, filled with Thailand's cultural diversity, stories and much more. The statues and golden Temple blinking in the mid-day sun is just an amazing sight. You have to look up close at the wall, the pillars, the statues to see the details, the complexity which artists put time into. Around the main site, there is wall mural with so much stories, arts for you to enjoy. If you want to deeper understand the story behind the mural, rent an audio tour or get a tour guide to tell you its story. Magical. However, be sure to bring an umbrella or you'll have a head-ache from the sun and the bright view of the golden temple.

We were lucky enough to go to the grand palace and the temple of the Emerald Buddha, while Thailand is still empty due to covid restrictions and a slow restart tourism. It was absolutely incredible. There were probably less than 100 people on the entire premises during our visit. It is spectacular and well worth the visit even if the crowds were much denser. If you take the boat, finding entrances somewhat tricky so do your research.

Very beautiful, culturally rich place. You visit here on a combine ticket that you buy for Grand Palace. Must visit place when you are in Bangkok. It provides for a history and the temple is so beautifully designed. The total price of the combined ticket is 500 Thai baht that includes visit to Grand Palace, Emerald Buddha, Museum and the Thai theatre show.

Not to be missed when visiting Bangkok. The ticket includes entry to this temple and the Grand Palace (actually this temple is part of the Grand Palace). It includes also a traditional dance show at a nearby theater. It is worth watching it and there are free shuttles just outside the temple. Following Lonely Planet's advice I looked for a guide inside. There were no guides, except for a free tour run by the administration that I believe runs 4 times a day (10, 10:30, and another 2 in the afternoon). Unfortunately, I had hard time understanding the guide (the mask certainly didn't help), so I quit the free tour and followed the free brochure (they have them in several languages) and I was just fine going with that. Most of the people were with guides hired outside the temple and they seemed to do well. It gets quite warm during the day, so my advice is to be there early. There is a lot to see, plan for at least 3-4 hours (combined with the Grand Palace). One more thing, you can't take photos or videos inside the temple.

Everything here is well preserved, the emerald Buddha is kept in the ordination hall or bot. No photos taken allowed inside the hall so no pictures of Emerald Buddha to share, but it’s magnificent and majestic. I’m proud to be Thai and once in life to visit there. No shorts 🩳 or revealing outfit allowed there be prepared before step into the temple and after your trip has finished don’t take any taxi 🚖 from there it’s not ordinary taxi the cost way too high I recommend to take a bus go anywhere that far enough from that area then you can take a taxi. On the way to get there no problem to use taxi or Grab but the way back is super difficult.

🇬🇧 Eng: Wat Phra Kaew is a holy and especially revered place for Thais, the most important temple and home to the most valuable relic of the Kingdom of Thailand, the sacred statue of the Emerald Buddha. The monks say that this 66 cm tall statue was discovered in Chiengrai in 1436, among the rubble of a pagoda destroyed by lightning. During its long history, the statue managed to travel a lot and even stayed in neighboring Laos for 2 centuries ... But in 1778 she was returned to her homeland, later, by the future king. The construction of the temple began in 1782 during the reign of Rama I, the founder of the Chakri dynasty. Wat Phra Kaew was conceived as the abode of the Emerald Buddha and the personal temple of the king. The emerald statue can be seen in the distance🧐 But to tell the truth, a copy of such statues can be seen in many temples) 🇷🇺 Ru: ✅ Easy to get to / Легко добираться ✅ Access by car / Подъезд на автомобиле ✅ Suitable for children / Подходит для детей ✅ Purposeful visit / Целенаправленное посещение instagram: @dreamchaser_traveling

Yes, this is a must visit. Visiting the Palace is a buy-one-get-two event. In actuality, you'll probably spend more time in the religious portion of the palace (~10% of the site) than in the remainder of the grounds. There is enough to see to keep you busy for a few hours. And it is worth the hours! You will need a map to explore all the nooks and crannies. We walked the entire wall, looking at the artwork. You may want to bone up on your Hindu mythology; there are a lot of mystical creatures and magical bows. Expert tips - Yes, gentlemen do need long pants, which are available on premises, and cheaper (with better variety) if you buy them at a local shop. There is only one entry up on the NE corner of the walled complex. Google Maps show it correctly. I would not try to visit another site on the same day - a walk through, especially on a hot day, is more than enough. I'd recommend staying up in Khao San Road for a few days and visiting the other major sites in the "old city" at a more relaxed pace.

A rare world heritage art and architectural culture with non identical style. Visit this temple is like walking in museum. From wall mural art, low relief to elegant sculpture. Emerald Buddha is a center point of this temple. We can spot some local practise meditation in this hall. However, if you wanna feel embrace by the beauty of this place, try to avoid the peak hour and mass tourist. Occasionally open in the night.

It has been for a very long time I came back this famous place in Thailand. This is the best ever trip to this unique and must visit place. In the occasion of less group tourists, we can access to the grand palace peacefully and perfectly enjoy its unique beauty, antique, perfection. We can take photo shots nicely without long queue waiting ...the crowd pass by.....and for a very first time we can sit and enjoy the peaceful and silence in this unique golden temple....very few visitors....believe me in many many years this is once in a life time we can access to this place with least crowded like this.

Located on a hill with a beautiful location, you can overlook the coastal city of Pattaya. The temple was built with unique architecture and is very typical of Thai culture. Very beautiful and dignified. The tour guide shared about the culture and spiritual beliefs here. The pagoda stands out with a majestic large golden Buddha image. 2 dragons spit out a 7-headed snake. A spiritual place you should visit once!So beautiful!..

Is it nice to visit? Sure. Is it worth 500B? I absolutely don’t believe so, especially for a religious site where Thai residents can enter for free but tourists get overcharged. You will need to wear long pants and cover indecent exposed body parts to enter. There are vendors right outside to sell you those at a marked up price. Ticket includes free admission to an art museum that closes on certain days and a performance show to a theater nearby where you can get free shuttle to at the exit if you have the ticket. I highly recommend going to the Khao show because it is worth 400Baht alone and would make you feel like the 500Baht entrance ticket is somewhat worth it. The temple itself is pretty nice to see but it’s very crowded nearly everyday. You can see the palace mansion on your way out. There is also an air conditioned museum on your way out. This would have a higher rating if not for the overpriced ticket.

One of the most important and significant Buddhist temples in Bangkok and throughout Thailand, this sacred site draws locals who come to pray with white flowers. I found this tradition truly admirable during my visit to the temple. Moreover, the atmosphere inside was incredibly serene! The artworks adorning the inner walls are truly astonishing and one could easily spend half an hour simply admiring them. However, it's important to note that using a camera inside the temple is strictly prohibited. The Emerald Buddha Idol, a divine masterpiece, left me in awe. Knowing that such a beautiful artistic, cultural, and religious relic originated from India filled me with a sense of pride as an Indian. (information sourced from the internet) Situated within the Grand Palace complex, this temple is accessible with the same ticket purchased for entry to the Grand Palace.

Cool to walk around in the royal palace area! So much to see and explore! The details is so beautiful! Loved my time here! But you should know that it is extremely crowded, so you have to force yourself through a lot! And it is a bit expensive with 500 baht

Guy this place is sparkling. Don’t forget your eye glasses if you have a short eyesight, otherwise you will see everything blurry like I did. Fortunately, my friend lend me his glasses sometimes 😝 so I can still exploring this place with a clear vision. Go in early morning to avoid the crowds. You have to my entrance ticket. If you are Thai just show your Id, it is free for you. If you are foreigner, 500 THB. With this ticket you can access 2 places: emerald temple and the Grand palace. If you are foreigner but look like a Thai, you with Thai peoples and stay silent 🤫 you will not have to pay. The temple is beautiful everywhere, everything is golden except the emerald buddha. Many thing to see in one place from art to architecture. You can also renting a Thai outfit to blend in with the place. Don’t wear inappropriate clothes like sexy clothes etc. Pay some respect to the culture and the place. Oh don’t forget to look up when you are inside building, the ceiling are beautiful.

The most magnificent and gorgeous temple in Bangkok! If you only had one day for your trip, definitely visit this temple. The inside ornaments and design is stunning. The outside is garden is perfect. There are people praying and singing mantra, although I don’t understand Thai, it is a good experience to see this place is still practical in use.

Excellent experience overall, understand how rich Thailand culture and experience their history, Buddhism and architecture marvels. Emerald Buddha temple is huge and you feel very pleasant near the shrine of lord Buddha and the historic events carved around the temple walls. Outside of the temple has these emeralds, gems stone carved into the walls makes it more amazing. When you visit Bangkok this temple is a must to be in the list. If you are a historic person then must have. You can visit with family and kids. Buy the tickets at the temple, if you are a foreigner, the cost is 500 Bahts and get access to Emerald Buddha temple, Grand palace and Queen museum of arts and fashion.

Defined as one of the must-see sites in Bangkok and I think it's definitely worth it. Entrance fee is 500 baht and it turns out that it is a combined ticket for entrance to the museum at the entrance to the King's Palace and the King's Palace complex and the temples. On the way out, a guide who saw the ticket explained that I had a week to use the extra ticket, it was not relevant to us because we left the King's Palace for the last day before the flight. It is recommended to arrive in appropriate clothing, long pants and not a tank top. Those who need improvements receive clothing on loan. Time consuming waiting in line at reception and return despite the very efficient work of the Thais. It is also required to leave a deposit of about 200 baht. The temples are very beautiful and after we walked quite a bit and thought we were done, it turns out that this is only the part of the temples. Then we moved to the King's Palace wing. Some of the buildings are open to the public and display the collection of weapons, jewelry, photographs, etc. Personally, I liked more the charming landscapes of Thailand, and yet you can devote half a day to it.

The time that was taken to construct these temples is heavily felt upon approaching this place. I took advantage of the prayer rooms, the outdoor prayer stations, and taking in the beauty. I met people from all over the world and had great exchanges. As a Christian, I was still able to respect and appreciate another religion and how our beliefs and faith bring us together in such a positive way. Tips: -Dress modestly -Wear socks because some places prohibit shoes -DO NOT get a Buddha tattoo

Had an amazing experience visiting the Grand Palace. It's a beautiful heritage site of Bangkok with the entire story of Ramayan depicted on the walls of the palace with beautiful Muriel paintings on the wall. If you are visiting Bangkok, this is a must visit place and do not miss. Caution: both men and women are not allowed in shorts and sleeveless dresses. So wear proper clothes to avoid unnecessary spending. 😊

Absolutely magical place or Palace! Remember, this place closes relatively early at 3:30pm. It would be more prudent and advisable to visit this historical location first and then visit Wat Pho with the gold reclining Buddha, across the street last, as it closes at 6:30pm!

The place exudes calmness, peace and quiet. We went as tourists but we just sat inside the temple for some time and observed other locals offering prayers and enjoyed the architecture. No photos are allowed to be taken inside the temple but they dont take away the cameras or anything. People are expected to follow the rules and everyone did as far I saw. You will need to remove the footwear and leave them on stands provided outside. The temple is maintained very clean and spotless. Generally, remain quiet and talk softly to maintain the atmosphete. Dress modestly otherwise you will be asked to purchase from the shops before you enter.(sleeves and below knees)

It pains me to say this but unless this is the first temple that you see at the Grand Palace, it will quickly blend in with the dozens of other glittering, colorful buildings and pavilions. It is impressive, but not as impressive as the cathedrals of Europe, or the Islamic mosques that I have seen. You will have to be quiet and respectful inside as well as sit down. Guards will enforce the rules.

The Emerald Buddha Temple is actually part of the Grand Palace complex (this means you cannot visit it separately unless you buy a ticket for the Grand Palace). You have to buy a ticket for visiting both, which will cost 500 baht for farangs / foreigners. Outside the temple, in front, you can bless yourself with lotus flowers and holy water. It is forbidden to take photos inside the temple, only outside is allowed. Like with all temples in Thailand, you will have to take your shoes off and be dressed modestly (shoulders covered, long pants, etc) for both men and women. There are shops and changing rooms where you can buy clothes in that regard if you come unprepared, but they will obviously be heavily overpriced. So best to have them with you. Since there are changing rooms at the entrance, you can get the clothes in your bag and simply change at the palace.

This place is amazing... Visitors must wear appropriate clothing. No sleeveless & no shorts, or else u will buy clothing outside the temple that will cost you 100-120 bt. Taking photos and videos to the holy temple is prohibited. The main temple where you can see the Emerald Buddha. Be aware that this is one of the main tourist attractions in Bangkok. it's either off season or during season doesn't matter much with regards to the number of tourists.

You cannot take photos in the temple but you should still go inside and see. The emerald Budha referred to is actually images of them, framed behind other items of worship. Could not really see them. The budha sitting in the middle on the crown presumably is made of jade(?) as the head looks green.

Considered as one of the most sacred temple in Thailand and some reason why it is located right in the royal palace. But it is always overcrowded with tourists. Remember to wear long pants or sarong. Or you can buy elephant batik long pants at nearby store at fixed price of 100 bahts.

Getting into this temple requires some major patience. People flood the stairs and don’t care to account for who have already been waiting to go up. Once inside, you are not allowed to take pictures. Which, is absolutely fine, besides the fact that I could not get close enough to see. The locals that I interacted with (there to pray), were quite rude. I had tried to get close enough to pray myself, as I am Buddhist, but got pushed away by the locals… Leaving me with an unenjoyable experience

The inside of this temple is as impressive as the outside. You can visit as part of the Grand Palace entry. You can only take photos of the outside of the temple, but it's well worth taking the time to sit down inside and drink in the details. The free brochure they give you at the ticket entrance has a good quick read on the history of the Emerald Buddha.

The temple, a masterpiece of Thai craftsmanship, narrates the country's rich cultural evolution. With its halls echoing with echoes of ancient rituals and royal ceremonies, this temple is more than a tourist spot—it's a living archive of the region's fascinating history. Immerse yourself in the allure of the Emerald Buddha, and you're not just sightseeing; you're time-traveling through the annals of Thai splendor. 🕰️🏛️ Attire: Wear modestly (No sleeveless shirts or t-shirt/ All pants or skirts must be below knee level) Entry tickets: Get it from the ticketing counter as you can't really prebook them. Even our tour guide got our tickets at the counter only when we arrived. Photography: You're free to take photos and videos, however you can't take photos of videos in certain areas (praying areas). Follow their rules and regulations properly as the officers inside are very strict - they will chase you out if you forget your manners and behavior and act disrespectfully.

Great experience. Lots of beautiful things to see. I'd recommend dressing comfortably with comfy walking shoes. Ladies also need to wear long items of clothing (covering shoulders and below the knees).

Our Klook tour included entrance fees and a guide. While photography and videography are prohibited inside the temple itself, you can zoom in with your camera to capture the Emerald Buddha from the doorway. The temple was bustling during our visit, but the crowd flowed well. Remember to remove your shoes before entering, as it's required. Shoe racks are provided on the side, and security will kindly remind you if needed. It's important to be respectful, as this temple holds immense significance, especially given its historical connection to Thai royalty.

Wat Phrakaew, some people called The Temple of Emerald Buddha. This temple was the King’s temple since King Rama I for traditional Buddhism activities. This temple is the only temple in Thailand that has no monk. Wat Phrakaew is so beautiful in term of architecture and culture. When you walked around, you would feel the peaceful, clam and cool. The most recommended for everyone to visit once in a life time.

Must-visit place 😊 I had a chance to visit Wat phra kaew at night due to late-king’s ceremony, so officers let people in for night tour at Wat phra kaew for free. It’s stunning at night, very charming and classic. Thai people tend to enrich Thai culture especially Thai temples, so temples around country usually look good and beautifully decorated with all-year maintenance. However, I wish government care about other important facilities as well;such as hospitals, place for homeless people, schools, public transportation, not only just beautiful temples.

(Translated by Google) The Emerald Buddha (actually Jade) is the most revered in Thailand. The site is very touristy, very noisy but it is worth the visit. The major disadvantage is that it is easy to take pictures. The temples and the golden backdrops are breathtaking and I guess it would have cost years of work for the artists who sculpted it all. (Original) Le Bouddha d'émeraude (en réalité en Jade) est le plus vénéré en Thaïlande. Le site est très touristique, très bruyant mais il vaut la visite. Wat Phra Kaew (Thai: วัดพระแก้ว, RTGS: Wat Phra Kaeo, pronounced [wát.pʰráʔ.kɛ̂ːw] (listen)), commonly known in English as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and officially as Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram,[a] is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand. The complex consists of a number of buildings within the precincts of the Grand Palace in the historical centre of Bangkok. It houses the statue of the Emerald Buddha, which is venerated as the country's palladium.

  • 4/5 Peter B. 2 years ago on Google
Despite living in Thailand for 14 years, I had never visited this temple, as I was aware of the overcrowding, extreme dual pricing, and issues with huge tour groups from China. But the pandemic created a window to avoid the crowds, and it's worth the effort. There are more beautiful temples in Thailand, but none have the sheer breathtaking scale of Wat Phra Kaew - there's just so much Thai style concentrated in one site. I's important to avoid peak times, you need to dress right, taking water is a good idea as it's hot, and to me it feels less 'spiritual' than smaller, more remote temples, but worth the cost and effort if you can time it right.

Super and fantastic,This is one of my favorites pagodas in the whole country, all the mysticism from this ancient traditions are main located at this place full of good vibes.you can enjoy the nice wall paintings around the temple which depict the life of Buddha from birth to Nirvana covered corridor, walled on one side, that surrounds the entire temple like a Cloister Murals on the gallery walls depict the entire arc of the  Ramakien epic, which is based on the Indian Ramayana. This version was translated and recomposed in Thai poetic form under the supervision of Rama I himself around 1797. The story is divided into five long episodes.

Some of places are currently under renovation, but it is still good. It is recommended to go with a guide if possible. In addition to explaining the historical background, it also tells you where to take pictures and help you take pictures. Other places in Bangkok change quickly, but this one doesn't change. I like here.

Part of The Grand Palace this is a quite sensational temple. The architecture and design are something that you really need to see. The huge statues are really detailed and a little scary. Especially the green one. There are several shrines here with different styles of Buddha, each one unique. The star attraction is the Jade Buddha. This is a magnificently carved Buddha which has rotating outfits. No photography is permitted. You can walk around and enjoy the buildings and the religious feeling. It does however get very busy here so be prepared. I suggest combining it with The Grand Palace.

Wat Phra Kaew - The grand palace and Temple of Emerald Buddha. A beautiful temple and palace. Be aware that you can't wear shorts or skirts to enter, you will need to pay respect to the temple. The temple and grand palace is free to enter for Thai nationals with ID card and 500 baht for non thai. That being said you can enter the immediate grounds for free to take a look and there is fan stations around the area and tour guides available. There is a free guide for those who enter and covered in multiple languages. No smoking is allowed at all on grounds and carries a 5000baht fine, military and police guard the area. You are not allowed to take photos of military or police while inside. Be aware they will march around inside and will need your photo or gathering to wait. Outside you can purchase or rent long trousers etc, directly opposite the women generally charge 150 baht but if you buy before you go to directly outside you can get something as cheap as 50 baht elsewhere. There are some very beautiful carvings, wall paintings and different buildings that create a really interesting theme. You can arrive via boat at the river and walk in if your hotel has this service on the river, I stayed at Ramada plaza and they drop you off for free at a transit dock, the cost for my trip to the palace on a boat was 30 baht. Tuktuk and taxi are outside the area to the main road.

Something you have to see. But pay attention to dress code for guys and gals. A shawl or cover is not enough for the women and I saw guys get rejected for shorts above the knees. I think some still got away with wearing shorts but it's considered rude. Yes, it's hot but they expect people to be covered. Some people inside the temple may have taken some stuff off after getting passed the guards, but I didn't wanna get hassled.

If not you can buy a Saigon right in front of the temple!!! The place is huge and well maintained

Inside the grand palace, very original temple, a must see in Bangkok.. Be aware of scammers in front who wants to make you visit another temple by tuktuk.. they tell you the temple is closed which is NOT.. Make sure with your driver who brings you there or with your hotel. The price is quite high but the garden is very huge and nice. Nice photos spot..

It is one of the most beautiful temples in Bangkok. I went there many years ago with my Mom and it was super, super big, gigantic and enormous. We (My mom and I) went there with a group of American tourists and missionaries but it was free for Thai. It was not very far from my house and was worth going there once in a lifetime. Also, it's been one of the tourists attractions in Bangkok.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Bangkok, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is a serene haven that whispers tales of the ages. Its meticulously adorned architecture and the tranquil presence of the Emerald Buddha create an atmosphere of profound reverence and contemplation. As you traverse the temple's grounds, the intricate artistry and vibrant colors merge with the hush of rustling leaves, evoking a sense of timeless beauty. Amidst the city's hustle, this sanctuary stands as a testament to Thailand's spiritual legacy, inviting visitors to embrace its history and tranquility. The Temple of the Emerald Buddha isn't just a destination; it's a transformative journey through Thai culture and heritage. The fragrant waft of incense and the distant echoes of devotion linger in the air, leaving an indelible imprint on every soul fortunate enough to experience its profound embrace.

Was very crowded inside the temple. Would be a good idea to limit the amount of people inside at a time to allow a more enjoyable experience. Prayer can be difficult with everyone trampling around taking selfies and such, not to mention how loud it can be. 5 stars for Buddha, 2 stars for organization.

Amazing place! Lots to see! Definitely worth the money! Be careful; lots of tuktuk drivers will lie to you and say it’s closed. Just checked their website before and you’ll know for sure. There is a common scam that they’ll do right and bring you to the lucky Buddha instead as it’s closed to tourists

  • 5/5 Harris H. 5 months ago on Google
Didn’t went inside but the building looks great. One of the main reasons why people visit palace is to visit this beautiful attraction. Saw a lot of crowd and didn’t not to visit as a lot of people come here to pray and they should have first priority to go inside. Highly recommend to visit. Wish there won’t be any tickets to it as it’s a temple and not a tourist trap. Please give a way to the one going there for prayer first!
