Sunrise tour is one of the best things you can have in Indonesia or in entire SEA. You need to get an expensive ticket in advance or on the same day early morning (like around 5am). If you can prove that you are a student, Indonesian or Southeast Asian, you get cheaper rates. Then you can trek up to the top of the temple and watch the sun rise. You are allowed to take photos but not videos. Try long-exposure photos, they look super good Pre - Sun Rise. Attached are some photos I got while visiting .

We experienced a sunrise from the temple, what an amazing experience besides from such a historic place🙏. The journey to the top fills one with awe. The detailed carvings displaying the Buddhist journey is amazing. Wow, what a great experience. Lots of additional activities to do and a restaurant available to offer food and drinks. 👍

This famous Buddhist temple, dating from the 8th and 9th centuries, is located in Central Java. It was built in three tiers: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces, the trunk of a cone with three circular platforms and, at the top, a monumental stupa. The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha. UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site ..very beautiful in deed ..neat and clean place well maintained by the Indonesians..

This is my second visit after visiting this temple as a child. This temple does have things that are charming and extraordinary. This temple deserves recognition as one of the many wonders in this world. However, during this pandemic, visitors must comply with health protocols by not touching the temple, they must still wear a health mask and when I visited yesterday they could not go up to the top of the temple. Even so, I will revisit Borobudur Temple in the future.

Came to this place before the Covid Pandemic hit. This place is wonderful and the vibe is relaxing. Access to the location is easy. The last time I visited here, the view at the top of the temple was amazing and crowded with tourists. If you want to visit here, please pay attention to the signs in several locations to help keep the temple well maintained.

The Borobudur Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is undeniably a must-visit destination that seamlessly blends history, spirituality, and architectural grandeur. Stepping into this ancient monument is like taking a journey back in time, surrounded by the intricate carvings and majestic stupas that tell the tales of a bygone era. The serene ambiance, especially during sunrise or sunset, adds a mystical touch to the experience, making it a pilgrimage for both locals and tourists alike. While the historical and spiritual significance of Borobudur is awe-inspiring, I couldn’t help but notice a few areas that could enhance the overall visitor experience. The vast green expanse surrounding the temple, while charming, could benefit from a bit of grooming. A well-maintained lawn would not only add to the aesthetic appeal but also provide a comfortable spot for visitors to relax and soak in the atmosphere. Additionally, the introduction of more public seating areas could be a thoughtful improvement. Considering the number of visitors exploring the temple grounds, having strategically placed benches would offer a welcomed respite for tired feet and an opportunity to contemplate the marvels of Borobudur. In conclusion, Borobudur Temple is a cultural gem that has withstood the test of time. Its grandeur and historical significance are undeniable. With a few enhancements to the surrounding greenery and the addition of more seating areas, the experience for visitors could be even more delightful. This is a place where the past meets the present, and with a little care, it could continue to be a timeless destination for generations to come.

I'm sure the place must have some interesting aspects, which we couldn't seize during our visit.. 1. Their COVID rules are absolutely absurd and terrible. We went through at least 25 people (6 check-points at the entrance) checking at least twice our kitas, vaccine, ect. 2. None of the staff speaks even basic English - terrible for what is Unesco heritage and used to be a 7th wonder 3. Strong racist policy by the authorities. Price for foreigners is 350k whereas locals pay only 50k. 4. There is no straight exit. You have to go through 15 long minutes of labyrinth made of tourist shops at the exit, with most of the sellers jumping on you at your passage. Not a fun experience especially with the heat 5. During covid time, the stairs and all the temple is closed to visitors. All the annex temples were closed as well. The organization explained us that "there is COVID virus active in these parts" 🤔 of course the price remains unchanged even removing 80% of the interest of the site I am sure it is a great place with great potential. Just can't approve any of the decisions that are being made by the authorities there 🤢

The temple itself is very nice, and it worth a visit if you’re in the area of course, given its cultural significance as the largest Buddhist monument on earth. I will say the price was quite steep however for what you receive. It was approx 500000 per person if you want to walk through the temple grounds, and this entitles you to go onto the temple but only with a guide, and you only have one hour. Because of this, a lot of the panelling work and areas are missed off the tour, and they seem to drag you only to where people will want to have photos of themselves taken. I’d have preferred to not have a guide at all had I known what I was paying for was a time limited tour of one corridor and the roof area, but unfortunately you are not allowed to access the temple without the guide.

BEWARE! This was a complete rip-off and money-grab for anyone who isn't local. They charge foreigners USD $25 (vs USD $3 for locals) just to walk around the structure. The tickets for going into the structure sell out quickly. When you are exiting, you have to go through a maze of stores with vendors who are relentless and like vultures. They literally follow you throughout hoping you'll buy. I was so exhausted by the time we made it out. Overall, the structure is beautiful and impressive. I just wish the management was better and actually respected the structure and its history and meaning. The entire time we were there, we heard nothing but Islamic prayers over the speakers which, along with the prayer room built on the grounds of the structure, felt very disrespectful and as though they wanted to overshadow Buddhism. The prayer room could have easily been built outside of the structure and its grounds as a form of respect for another religion. It's sad to see that this structure, which is important to Buddhism and history, is nothing more than a money grab for people who don't care about the culture except to exploit it for their own selfish gains. I'd honestly skip this one and visit Bali instead.

Good experience. It's very regimented as you go through the steps 1 to 6. Online you get the choice of two different tickets. I tried to find out the difference, apparently it's all about which stories you get told. However, the girl said that everyone gets told both stories by the guides and there is no difference. Maybe they could remove this confusion by only selling one ticket. I found the archeological museum very interesting. They have photographs showing before, during and after the restoration. It was a huge project, with large mobile cranes and involved disassembling and reassembling pretty much all the stones. Great job! On the way out you are directed through a maze of vendors all selling the same stuff. Too much. It should be streamlined and the number of sellers reduced by 80% If you climb up the structure, you are given a pair of sandals which you get to keep. Somebody has a good business here, selling 1,000 plus pairs everyday. Whether they make any difference in preventing erosion is really uncertain. I had no use for them and left them on the top of a bin.

This was a much anticipated trip, I had seen many previous videos and pictures. There are many comments about the entry price being vastly different for International visitors, 375K IDR compared to domestic visitors who pay 50K. I can understand why the difference exists, but it seems rather steep to me. The biggest disappointment for me was that you are no longer allowed to enter the temple. The access points are now sealed off. Again I can understand why, but for myself, it did take some of the pleasure away. The famous bell towers can only really be seen from a distance and in my opinion can't be appreciated in the same way. The site possesses the longest exit route I have ever experienced! You walk though a labyrinth of alleys lined with literally hundreds of gift stalls. As previously mentioned, I can totally understand why this is so. All that said; it is a world heritage site and well worth a visit. The perimeter is open and you can walk around all 4 sides of this vast and impressive temple. As I walked away from the area, I had mixed feelings: I couldn't help feeling a little disappointed by the 3 aforementioned aspects but thoroughly impressed by the wonderful architecture.

Truly a magnificent landmark. Not only value its historical moment, also spiritual too. The last time I visited, it was sprinkling (not raining) and I strongly felt it was a blessing from the Buddhas to keep myself a little bit dry. The written wall of the temple is still safely kept until now, which is serving its important messages to us. However, after you done strolling around the temple, please do not forget to visit the cafe. The service is very friendly and the prices aren’t expensive at all.

I have wanted to visit this wonder of civilization for years and now that I came here I can say it is indeed very impressive, with a magical aura at the temple grounds. It is a shame though because climbing the temple was closed for visitors so we could not see the cage-like structures with buddhas inside at the top, nor the views from the top of the temple. They used the pandemic as the excuse for not allowing visitors to go but that sounds like a pretty lame excuse for charging the same entrance fee for much less maintenance/work. This was disappointing.

Visiting the largest Buddhist temple in the world and one of the most interesting UNESCO World sites, and one of the seven Wonders of the world was one of the highlights of my trip. Navigating around when and how to go, which kind of ticket to buy, was challenging. I heard a lot of stories and with this review I am hoping to provide an accurate up to date experience Q: Are the sunrise tours canceled? A: Yes they are, unless you are staying in the Manohara hotel, they have a special private Tour Q: When should I go? A: The 1st tour starts at 8:30am, if you will buy tickets on site, make sure to be there at least 1 hour before, so 7 to 7:30. They only allow 1200 visitors per day on the temple itself, so don't arrive later than, noon, because not only it will be so crowded and you might miss entry, the scorching sun will burn you, especially on the temple, being it made from black volcanic stone Q: Can I get on top of the temple? A: Providing that you buy an extension of the temple ground ticket, you can, only with a guide with a max time limit of 1 hr. The temple has 7 levels, the max reachable level is 6. The last level is off limits to public, only reserved for high religious figures Q: Should I buy tickets on site or online? What kind of tickets is available? A: I prefer to buy tickets on site since there are so many outlets selling them, which might end up being fake tickets. There are two types of tickets, temple ground and temple structure. With the ground one you will only be allowed access around the temple but not on top of it, so you should buy the temple structure ticket, which will cost you 455,000IDR or 30 dollars, which personally I found very expensive, however since this place is one of a kind it's totally worth it Q: Is the tour organized? Can I roam on my own? A: Yes a few tours leave every 30 mins starting 8:30am, each tour is assigned a number. You will have to follow your tour guide and group at all times, which is part of the ticket. They will give you a slipper to wear, because you are not allowed with normal shoes on the temple structure. Your guide will explain the history of the temple and everything you nerd to know. There is mineral water provided. There will be 15 mins free time to roam and take pictures in the end on the structure. On the temple ground itself you can stay as much as you want I believe a better job can be done in organizing the tours, streamlining all the information about the visit online to make it easier for tourists to access and enjoy their experience to the maximum

Historical place but for the foreign tourists, the tickets are RIDICULOUSLY expensive. Angkor Watt costs about $37 for whole day and much more to see. Here costs about $25 but cannot even walk up to the top. THE PATH TO THE TOP OF THE TEMPLE IS BLOCKED. If you’re a traveler with low budget, do not bother to come. But people are so nice.

Incredibly impressive. Our guide was knowledgeable but knew that most of the group wanted to get to the top and get our pictures. Absolutely the best thing we have done in Java. Only 150 people are allowed up at the time which is good. We had a tour take us there, and we did get a better history of the temple and it's significance on Java culture before we went.

(Translated by Google) Incidentally visited here before the Covid 19 pandemic so it's still open, can review this place now. If now it is certain that it is closed even if it is opened but it is not allowed to go up to the top of the temple related to the health process to avoid the spread of the corona virus. Indonesia's cultural historical tourism destination has become one of the iconic wonders of the world. Apart from traveling, it is also to add historical insight, the place and location is quite extensive with several interesting points of interest. Public facilities such as toilets or bathrooms are also available here. Hopefully the Pandemic ends soon and this place can be reopened for medicine filling the holidays after a long hiatus.

Borobudur Temple in Indonesia is an absolute must-see for any travelers visiting the country. The temple, which dates back to the 9th century, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is considered one of the greatest Buddhist temples in the world. One of the things that makes Borobudur Temple so special is its stunning architecture. The temple is built from over two million stone blocks, and its design is inspired by the mandala, a Buddhist symbol representing the universe. The temple is also adorned with beautiful carvings and reliefs that depict stories from the life of the Buddha and other important figures in Buddhist history. Another highlight of a visit to Borobudur Temple is the opportunity to climb to the top of the temple and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The temple is located on a hill, and from the top, you can see for miles in every direction. Overall, visiting Borobudur Temple is a truly unforgettable experience. The temple's history and beauty make it one of Indonesia's most important cultural and tourist attractions, and it is a must-see for anyone visiting the country.

Loved this place. Foreigners have to pay a lot more than locals. But they use the extra money for restoration and maintenance. They only allow 150 per hour into the temple and you have to have a guide. Got a ticket and only had to wait about 30-45 minutes for the next tour group. They give you special sandals to protect the temple and then you get them as a souvenir. We had an amazing guide that is very knowledgeable about the temple and it history. The tour lasted about 40 minutes and we still had 20 minutes left for our tour. So we were able to walk around, relax and check out the temple at our own pace. Took an overpriced shuttle from Yogyakarta then shared a taxi coming back.

Borobudur, the crown jewel of Yogjakarta. We heard from our tour guide that Borobudur had been closed for the last three years and had just opened to the public about a month ago. And along with its opening, they are trialing a new system of limiting the number of attendees, how they access the park, and new entrance fees in order to preserve the park and the temple. First things first, the entrance fees. To access the top of the temple, for me, a foreigner, it costs 455,000 IDR. For local it costs 120,000 IDR. I am used to paying more to get into various attractions in Indonesia however, this difference is stark and unfair in my opinion. Hopefully, once their trial is over they will adjust the price to where it's more reasonable. After getting the ticket, we were then given these sandals to wear in the park and they are mandatory. You get to keep the sandals after your tour. One of my friends had expressed that the sandals were quite uncomfortable to walk on but I didn't have issues with them. After that we were split up into groups, each group assigned to an Indonesian-speaking or an English-speaking guide who would then guide us around in the park. We were forewarned by our guide before starting our tour that we were forbidden from straying from the group that we were in. Doing so would cause us to be removed from the park without further reasoning. Our guide gave us our tour of and a lot of history to do with the temple. Very interesting stuff. And of course, we got quite a few photo-ops while on the tour. I recommend wearing a hat and bringing extra water for this tour. It gets quite hot there. This of course is a must-do activity while in Yogjakarta. As with any large attractions in Indonesia, be wary of the souvenir vendors. A lot of them were quite aggressive.

Who doesn't know Borobudur Temple, its fame is very well known throughout the world. Want to share experiences when visiting here. Before you come, it's best to buy tickets online so you don't have to queue for a long time. My advice is to buy a ticket with a package entry to the temple, it's more expensive than one with access to the grounds, but it's more satisfying if you buy a package to go up to the temple because we get a guide and are also given special sandals. to go up to the top of the temple If you want to come here, don't forget to bring an umbrella, hat, drinking water and don't forget to use sunblock because it's really hot up there. Lastly, if you want to buy souvenirs, after coming down from the temple, buy souvenirs in the area near the exit because it is cheaper. That's all the review, basically this Borobudur temple is really recommended to visit.

Don't come here during pandemic time, not much to see, especially the main entrance is still being reconstructed, so disturbing. You can't climb to the temple, so many area are closed, the museums too. At the vaccination check point, place you will stand for a while before you buy the ticket, there are some guys will give you useless instruction of the covid protocol. Tbh, all of them has been written crystal clear at the board, no need further explanation. They provide washing places, but not with dryer and no tissue available to dry your hands, and they proceed you to Pedulilindungi app barcode scan with your wet hands holding your phone 🤣, poor service for international tourism spot. People come here to see the temple, not to hear the noise from the endless reconstruction of the surrounding. Rp.50K didn't well spent, trust me! Haha

Borobudur, also transcribed Barabudur (Indonesian: Candi Borobudur, romanized: Candhi Barabudhur) is a 7th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple in Magelang Regency, not far from the town of Muntilan, in Central Java, Indonesia. It is the world's largest Buddhist temple.[ The temple consists of nine stacked platforms, six square and three circular, topped by a central dome. It is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated inside a perforated stupa. Built in the 9th century during the reign of the Sailendra Dynasty, the temple design follows Javanese Buddhist architecture, which blends the Indonesian indigenous tradition of ancestor worship and the Buddhist concept of attaining Nirvana. The temple demonstrates the influences of Gupta art that reflects India's influence on the region, yet there are enough indigenous scene The monument is a shrine to the Buddha and a place for Buddhist pilgrimage. The pilgrim journey begins at the base of the monument and follows a path around the monument, ascending to the top through three levels symbolic of Buddhist cosmology: Kāmadhātu (the world of desire), Rūpadhātu (the world of forms) and Arūpadhātu (the world of formlessness). The monument guides pilgrims through an extensive system of stairways and corridors with 1,460 narrative relief panels on the walls and the balustrades. Borobudur has one of the largest and most complete ensembles of Buddhist reliefs in the world. Evidence suggests that Borobudur was constructed in the 7th century and subsequently abandoned following the 14th-century decline of Hindu kingdoms in Java and the Javanese conversion to Islam. Worldwide knowledge of its existence was sparked in 1814 by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, then the British ruler of Java, who was advised of its location by native Indonesians. Borobudur has since been preserved through several restorations. The largest restoration project was undertaken between 1975 and 1982 by the Indonesian government and UNESCO, followed by the monument's listing as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Borobudur is the largest Buddhist temple in the world, and ranks with Bagan in Myanmar and Angkor Wat in Cambodia as one of the great archeological sites of Southeast Asia. Borobudur remains popular for pilgrimage, with Buddhists in Indonesia celebrating Vesak Day at the monument. Borobudur is Indonesia's single most visited tourist attraction.

Get blessed going Borobudur Temple... I would come here again to go upstairs for the Buddha since it's closed due to Covid-19, so you only could visit in below of the temple and there are also market and souvenir to buy but all of them are common. If you like to buy some of the souvenir make sure to bargain first but do not pass the limit also aware of scams and happy holiday!

Very beautiful. Although the two separate entry points aren’t being made clear to tourists. There is the general admission where you can explore the grounds, including AROUND the temple, then there’s the separate admission (with a schedule on a first come first serve basis) where you can walk ON the steps of the temple and whatnot. However, I love the museum. It has a lot of great displays with the descriptions available both in Indonesian and English.

Largest Buddhist temple in the world. Absolutely beautiful and well worth the visit. I'd advise buying a ticket to do the climb as the tour guide is very informative and you learn a lot about Buddhist culture and history. Get there early as tours later in the day are very hot with little to no shade. I arrived at 6:30am but the tour was not until 8:30. Food options while you wait

My 3rd times here. This time visited with the kids. Will be a memorable time and such a great opportunity to see and learn one of world’s seven wonders. The area was very clean with some updated facilities like electric bus, golf cart to touring around temple area. The toilet was also clean. Hopefully get better with more attractions and facilities in the future.

Finally... i came here after a long time ago. Lastly i came here when i was kid.. 3rd grade elementary school on vacation (study tour). I visited Borobudur to accompany my friends. Unlike in the past, Borobudur is now more organized and clean. There are two types of tickets sold, namely tickets that only reach the courtyard and tickets that can go up to the top accompanied by tour guides. This time I was with a very friendly tour guide. We went around the temple area in groups. The ticket price is around IDR 120k and you will get a bag containing small mineral water and sandals. We use these sandals when we go up to the top of the temple. In addition, we are also accompanied by a tour guide.

Borobudur is the symbol of once prominent Buddhist influence in the Java Island. Lava stones are used to build this magnificent temple. Javanese life of a thousand years back is depicted in the stone trough all the drawings and scriptures which still stood as it is ten centuries back. Some part of the temple were destroyed by volcanic eruption and earth quake. The temple wall is adored by over 2500 relief panels. Each relief panel depicts one story from the history. We are so lucky that years of Buddhist history is preserved in this wonderful monument which stand as a symbol of a forgotten history of Java. Borobudur can be easily accessed from Yogyakarta city which is just 35 kilometers away from the site.

Borobudur was constructed between about 778 and 850 CE. It was buried under volcanic ash from about 1000 and was discovered  in 1814. This temple is one of the most impressive monuments ever created by humans. Each of the monument’s three main levels represents a stage on the way to the bodhisattva ideal of enlightenment; symbolizing this spiritual journey, a pilgrim begins at the eastern stairway and walks clockwise around each of the monument’s nine levels before reaching the top. Must visit once.

Evidence suggests that Borobudur was constructed in the 9th century and subsequently abandoned following the 14th-century decline of Hindu kingdoms in Java and the Javanese conversion to Islam.[7] Worldwide knowledge of its existence was sparked in 1814 by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, then the British ruler of Java, who was advised of its location by native Indonesians.[8] Borobudur has since been preserved through several restorations. The largest restoration project was undertaken between 1975 and 1982 by the Indonesian government and UNESCO, followed by the monument's listing as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.[3]

Love the place, always feeling wow whenever I visit this place. One of the oldest and biggest temple not only in Indonesia but also in the world. The place is so large that it provides the visitor many vehicles to stroll around. Visitor can choose bike, mini busses, and tradisional vehicle, andong. The ticket is 50 K rupiah for resident. The place is also clean, nice crews and since reopened in pandemic the health protocol is a must. One thing that bother is the souvenir seller around temple who folllow visitor since we park the car, not only one but sometimes too many.

The Borobudur Temple in Magelang Regency, Central Java Province is the world's largest Buddhist temple and a pride of the country. My last visit here with my family took place back in 2009, shortly after its privatization and revitalization were completed, which turned the place into a vast recreation park offering not only a temple but also museums, restaurants, a garden, a shopping center and children elephant ride. We also visited the Samudra Raksa museum showing a replica of the wonderful ocean cruise ship, a masterpiece of the nation in the past. Minuses: the entry fee is expensive; it can be scorching hot during the day (they offer umbrellas for small money); walking around the vast area can be so exhausting.

This is a 'must see' Mahayana Buddhist temple from the 9th C CE. The sunrise tour is an early rise but is spectacular. The carved temple reliefs, over 2,500, and hundreds of statues of the Buddha are in amazing condition. The reliefs Include the tales of the prior lives of the Buddha - the Jataka tales - and the tales of the pilgrimage journey of Sudhana in search of enlightenment (perfect wisdom). Spectacular detail. Yogyakarta is not the crowded destination that the Hindu/Buddhist Angkor Wat temples in Siem Reap, Cambodia have become. This temple predates most of the Angkor temples.

Exquisite Hindu temple complex. Must see in Indonesia. Prepurchase the tickets for access on the main temple. I suggest buying the last scheduled tour, 4 pm this way you will see all the temple structure ( in a good day ) in the " golden light - before sunset. There are no more tours for sunset only so take this chance to have a heavenly experience. Access on the temple terraces requires a set of special flip-flops that are provided by the visitor centre, brand new, your size and that you can take home in a nice local tote as a gift. All these tours are guided and the guides have pretty good English skills. Hope you have the patience to listen to their stories about ancient history and local history. You will not be allowed to go on the terrace levels without a ticket and special shoes. The walk / stairs : stairs are fairly standard in size and can be easily approached by anybody. I consider the terrace tour is a must

Amazing and magical place. We did a group tour with Sunrise, so we arrived to the Temple very early, we were the first one entered to the temple's first ground. We took a big walk around the temple and in the area. Around 9am they took us up to the temple. There is maximum 150 person/hour, and we were divided up to smaller group with a local guide, what made the whole experience even better

Requiring a guide limited the experience for me. Requiring unsafe sandals that allowed my feet to get sun burned was a drawback to the experience. Recommend taking socks that you can wear with the required sandals that you have to buy with the tickets. We chose not to pay extra for a guide that could speak English. We thought we could explore at our own pace, but we had to stay with our guide. It was really hot at 10:00 a.m. and the guide had us standing in the sun multiple times getting baked. Our group had 15 people, which was too many for one group. It would probably be worth it to find a way to pay extra for a smaller group of your own party to go at your own pace. You definitely should walk up the steps to the top.

We booked this trip through ViaVia travel in Jogja. They arranged a driver and car for the hotel pick up and drop off. The assisted with online entrance ticket purchase. Since covid Boroburdur have changed their visitor system. They now restrict numbers on the structure at any one time, so they have introduced 1-hour timeslots in small groups led by an appointed guide. There is no extra charge for the guide, but you do have to stay in your group. When you book your ticket online, you select a 1-hour slot from those available, and that is the time you are allowed onto the structure. You are given a wristband with QR code containing your time. You are also given soft soled 'slippers' as they call them to be worn on the structure to protect it from erosion (Pic attached). As you enter the structure, your guide will explain and describe each level and the carvings as you ascend. Once at the top, you are allowed to wander around alone but keep an eye on your exit time. You all exit on the opposite side of the structure to the one you entered, and each wristband scanned out. Thus, they know if anyone is overdue. Your guide then points you in the direction of the exit. You can stay on the grounds as long as you like. Be mindful of the heat when booking your timeslot. Warning ⚠️ exit is through a myriad of market stalls and allys, and you will be pestered to buy, and they follow you around, insisting you spend. It is quite a gauntlet. Be firm.

Well regulated with their entrance rule of only 150 people per hour (with more people on the temple, the temple would sink). We had a tour guide provided with the tickets we bought and he was a very informative and fun guy. The entrance difference for tourist and locals is huge though. If you go in the afternoon, be prepared for a hot walk. They give out umbrellas for 20k to use for shade. Overall a great experience.

A world miracle and the pride of all Indonesian people. Borobudur is the single most visited tourist attraction in Indonesia. This monument is a model of the universe and was built as a holy place to glorify Buddha as well as function as a place of pilgrimage to guide mankind from the realm of worldly lust to enlightenment and wisdom according to Buddhist teachings. Located in the hills of the city of Magelang, Central Java. Until now it is still used as a place of religious pilgrimage, every year Buddhists who come from all over Indonesia and abroad gather at Borobudur to commemorate the Trisuci Waisak

Candi Borobudur. Jadi cuma liat aja dr Jauh.

Borobudur, or Barabudur (Indonesian: Candi Borobudur, Javanese: ꦕꦤ꧀ꦣꦶꦧꦫꦧꦸꦣꦸꦂ, romanized: Candhi Barabudhur) is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple in Magelang Regency, not far from the town of Muntilan, in Central Java, Indonesia. It is the world's largest Buddhist temple. The temple consists of nine stacked platforms, six square and three circular, topped by a central dome. It is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated inside a perforated stupa. Built in the 9th century during the reign of the Sailendra Dynasty, the temple design follows Javanese Buddhist architecture, which blends the Indonesian indigenous cult of ancestor worship and the Buddhist concept of attaining Nirvana. The temple demonstrates the influences of Gupta art that reflects India's influence on the region, yet there are enough indigenous scenes and elements incorporated to make Borobudur uniquely Indonesian. The monument is a shrine to the Lord Buddha and a place for Buddhist pilgrimage. Evidence suggests that Borobudur was constructed in the 9th century and subsequently abandoned following the 14th-century decline of Hindu kingdoms in Java and the Javanese conversion to Islam. Excerpt from Wikipedia

Located on the island of Java, the magnificent Borobudur temple is the world's biggest Buddhist monument. The temple sits majestically on a hilltop overlooking lush green fields and distant hills. Built between AD 780 and 840 during the reign of Syailendra dynasty, the temple's design in Gupta architecture reflects India's influence on the region. However, there are enough indigenous scenes and elements incorporated to make Borobudur uniquely Indonesian. It covers a total surface area of around 2,500 m2. The monument is a marvel of design, decorated with 2,672 relief panels and originally 504 Buddha statues. The architecture and stonework of this temple have no equal. It was built without using any cement or mortar! The structure is like a set of massive interlocking Lego blocks held together without any glue. The temple has remained strong even through ten centuries of neglect. It was rediscovered in 1814 under the order of Sir Thomas Stanford Raffles. In the 1970s, the Indonesian Government and UNESCO worked together to restore Borobudur to its former majesty. The restoration took eight years to complete, making Borobudur one of Indonesia’s most valuable treasures. The temple is decorated with stone carvings in bas-relief, representing images from the life of Buddha. Commentators claim that this is the largest and most complete ensemble of Buddhist reliefs in the world, unsurpassed in artistic merit.

Strongly recommend going in the early morning to beat the rush and suggest you arrange a tour guide to help explain the multiple symbolic meanings the temple has. You still can’t climb up the temple due to covid regulations but you can walk around it and appreciate it’s beauty.

It's surprisingly small. Comparing to Angkor Wat it's tiny as it only consist of 1 "building block". And since you cannot climb it, thus only see it from the ground outside (i think due to corona) you kinda miss out on the details. The information on site is also limited. Conclusion: it's a neat trip if you're in the area, but I wouldn't recommend adding an extra leg to your travel itinerary just to see this

Since March, it has been open for guided group ascents to the top of the temple levels. At the ticket office may not tell about this possibility, and you have to pay for it in addition to the basic ticket. Group tours begin at 1:30 p.m. Ask at the ticket office about the possibility of climbing. The temple is amazing, the guide tells interesting information.

A majestic temple complex. Opening time 8.30 for the groups (with guide). No sunrise tours at 4 /5/6 am anymore. Purchased tickets online a week in advance. A tour with guide last 1 hour plus (inside the temple, climbed all the way up). Only about 1200 tourists allowed daily. Lots of souvenirs shops around, cafes etc.

    1) We’re so excited to save our energy exploring the ruins from our hotel which is located in its compound. 2) The problem we encountered was the premium ticket we purchased is entitled to BOROBUDUR MUSEUM which we found out on the internet! Then only we went back to Exit 4 which is an entrance closed to the museum and explained and requested to enter with all the proofs of photos, slippers and wristbands 2 days after! Please note that you are free to enter with your entrance ticket! 3) Kindly note that there is no point renting a bicycle at the entrance 4 as the exit #5 is right next to the MUSEUM. There was a great walk to return the bike 🚲 at entrance #4 and walked back to the Museum exit #5. 4) Again, from the exit 5 we had to walked round and round annoying through a full of hawkers maze which is about 800m+ then only we could get out to the roadside car park!

A truly stunning attraction, world class. Full of feeling and mood and history. From a time where scale and craft meant something. And time and money in its pursuit meant nothing.

World's largest Buddhist temple that is amazing to walk in. Built in the 9th century, this site will thrill you in it's grandeur. It's difficult to image this survives in such beauty after 1400 years. A must visit.

Worth the money coming to explore this beautiful temple. We came in the middle of the day and started the climb up the temple around 2 which was very hot, I would recommend coming earlier or later to avoid the heat. The temple itself was amazing and had a lot of history behind it. The number of people heading to the top of the temple is limited, so make sure to plan ahead, as you will need to be accompanied by a guide. You get a free water and pair of slippers that you can keep as a souvenir for when you ascend the temple so it does not get damaged. The guided tour is around an hour and a half with 30 mins explanation about the history of the temple before starting the ascent. Then you have an hour once you get your ticket scanned and start the climb. Our guide did a great job explaining the carvings and different levels of the temple and then we were given 20 minutes to explore the upper tier and to take photos on our own. Luckily since they limit the number of tourists, it wasn’t so crowded at the top and you can get a great picture. I definitely recommend the ticket where you climb to the top, otherwise the experience may not be as worth it. This place is a must see when in Yogyakarta

Everything is good and neatly arranged, only after we have finished admiring it, when we get to the exit, we have to go through a maze of selling stalls (and these stalls should also be attractively designed) which is quite tiring. Maybe there should also be some kind of cafe and/or restaurant that is nice and clean so that visitors can hang out there.

This is the center of Buddhist spirituality in Central Java. Although the Buddhists are minority here, but there are some Buddhist monasteries around. Those are very peaceful place to come and experience.

Borobudur is one of the most amazing ancient structures that I have ever seen. I strongly recommend that you read up on the history and rediscovery of the incredible temple. The temple consists of nine stacked platforms, six square and three circular, topped by a central dome. It is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated inside a perforated stupa.

The must do. The must see. The must experience and the must explore. This historical temple which is the proud central attraction for people of all walks of like, from all over the world. Our journey to Borobudur, the jump start earliest morning start, leaving the hotel by 4.00am, for not only, like the adventurous climbing up the temple, but also, sunrise watching. Pretty much, what an experience still treasured till this day.

This was a magnificent and magical place and quiet the memorable experience that I will never forget. We lucked out with the weather being nice and it not be hot plus it wasn’t over crowded. My only complaint is that the security guards were obnoxious and loud during the sunrise but I wasn’t going to let that ruin my experience, but I really hope that the management has a serious talk with them all and possibly find new security guards that actually have respect for the temple and the people that travel from all over the world to come see the temple that is a once in a life time for some. Besides that if you are in the area it is a most you come see the temple and see the sunrise

During the new normal, the management restrict the visitor from 100.000 per week to 1.400 per week. No visitor is allowed to enter the temple, so we can only do the sightseeing and take pictures from the surrounding garden.

Tiket masuk lumayan mahal 50rb per orang, anak2 25rb, lalu naik mobil 15rb per orang.

Klw mau masuk boleh tp sampek pelataran itupun hrus bayar tourgate lg 100k perombongan kan susah ya cari2 orang but satu rombongan maksimal 20 orng. selain uang masuk 50k.

  • 3/5 Ferry F. 3 years ago on Google

I went to this best historic place in Central Java with my family. We went there in the middle of my school holidays. My family and I chose this place because we thought that this place could be the best of both a relaxed and a spot to study history. The whole way to the temple, I already felt so happy because the area is a clan. To enter the Borobudur temple, we bought four tickets, and it's not expensive compared to other places. I felt so amazed by the beautiful statues and relief. I could see beautiful scenery on the top of the temple.

The Borobudur Temple Compounds is one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world, and was built in the 8th and 9th centuries AD during the reign of the Syailendra Dynasty. The monument is located in the Kedu Valley, in the southern part of Central Java, at the centre of the island of Java, Indonesia. The main temple is a stupa built in three tiers around a hill which was a natural centre: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces, the trunk of a cone with three circular platforms and, at the top, a monumental stupa. The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs, covering a total surface area of 2,520 m2. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha. The vertical division of Borobudur Temple into base, body, and superstructure perfectly accords with the conception of the Universe in Buddhist cosmology. It is believed that the universe is divided into three superimposing spheres, kamadhatu, rupadhatu, and arupadhatu, representing respectively the sphere of desires where we are bound to our desires, the sphere of forms where we abandon our desires but are still bound to name and form, and the sphere of formlessness where there is no longer either name or form. At Borobudur Temple, the kamadhatu is represented by the base, the rupadhatu by the five square terraces, and the arupadhatu by the three circular platforms as well as the big stupa. The whole structure shows a unique blending of the very central ideas of ancestor worship, related to the idea of a terraced mountain, combined with the Buddhist concept of attaining Nirvana. The Temple should also be seen as an outstanding dynastic monument of the Syailendra Dynasty that ruled Java for around five centuries until the 10th century. The Borobudur Temple Compounds consists of three monuments: namely the Borobudur Temple and  two smaller temples situatued to the east on a straight axis to Borobudur. The two temples are Mendut Temple, whose depiction of Buddha is represented by a formidable monolith accompanied by two Bodhisattvas, and Pawon Temple, a smaller temple whose inner space does not reveal which deity might have been the object of worship. Those three monuments represent phases in the attainment of Nirvana. The temple was used as a Buddhist temple from its construction until sometime between the 10th and 15th centuries when it was abandoned. Since its re-discovery in the 19th century and restoration in the 20th century, it has been brought back into a Buddhist archaeological site...

For the first time coming here, and being able to visit this place is my own pride, considering the borobudur temples are known all over the world. Here not only enjoy the magnificent view of the temple, we can also learn history. It's a pretty big ticket to get in, but I think it's worth what we got. The business goes well with me.

World class tourism destination, well-preserved relic, surrounded by wide garden. You can ride tourism car (kereta kelinci) or elephant, nice experience. Just before exit gate, there is a long narrow alley where you can by souvenir and art. Beware, they are, sometimes, quite aggresive. Happy traveling.

In Borobudur Temple you can see relics of the past that hold a lot of history and mystery,You can learn it too. There are many facilities there such as tour guides, trains, traditional craft shops, riding a horse, facilities for foreign tourists, lots of miniatures and explanations that can add to our knowledge even though we don't hire a guide.I feel this place is special because the building holds a lot of mysteries and deep history. And also Borobudur Temple is one of the 7 wonders of the world.Borobudur temple is a very educational and fun place.I really recommend this place to many people out there because you can get a lot of things from this place, especially those who like history.

Very beautiful, unique place and well preserved. Unfortunately the information are not provided properly on the website:-opening time now is 8am-12pm and 1pm-3pm;-is not allowed anymore to climb the hill and every Monday the temple area is closed to the public; -The ticket for non-resident is 350.000 IDR now, which is a bit costly, and it allows access only once to the temple site. The overall experience was great, even though they could improve organization and information.

I justed to make you aware of the terrible treatment of elephants I saw today at Borobudur park. One was chained around the ankles and could not stand properly because the chain was so tight. It was chained to the ground and could barely move. The worker also hit another elephant with a shovel and jabbed a different elephant with the wood stuck of a broom to force them from the only shade and out into the sun for tourist to see. Is there something we can to do to help these poor animals?

It is part of the Indonesia pride. During the blue and clear sky the majesty of this site is even more emphasized. The detail of each carving, the gargantum size and also the meaning for each floor. Love this site and i hope i can join vesakh celebration some day directly from this site.

Very beautiful. You cannot go to the top during the pandemic. Hopefully they allow visitors to go up again soon, it is not quite as worth it without going to the top. Still worth a visit. Our tour guide was helpful for 150k. Higher prices for foreigners

It was an amazing experience visiting this temple. The temple itself has a beautiful structure and all the decorations tell the story of buda, like the pyramids in Guatemala or Egypt, the decorations tell the story of ancient civilizations. Get ready and it might depends on the weather, but it can get really hot and humid or very rainy, so do a research before going. The people who works over there, are very nice and welcoming people, always with a smile.

We loved visiting here. The guide was brilliant, very knowledgeable and funny. The flip flops you have to wear (included in ticket price and bag) we good and a lovely keep sake. The worst part was trying to get out of the temple complex with 300meter plus of souvenir shops.

It's a must visit place in Yogyakarta. Its one of the famous Buddhist monuments in the world, built between 8th and 9th Century. The best way to visit the temple is to take a guided tour. A limited number of tourists are allowed to enter inside the temple at a time. Without prior booking It's difficult to get a slot. More than half day is required to visit this temple. Enjoyed my visit to this place.

2nd visit to the monument using the guide and with limited time to spend. The previous visit was much better as there was no time limit. Had a bad experience when exiting, had to go through long lanes to reach the parking like going thru maze of souvenir stores

It’s a must visit if you are going to Yogyakarta - the largest Buddhist temple in the world and it’s awe inspiring. It’s advisable to book tickets online - they give you time slots when you can go up the temple. The ticket cost includes special footwear that you need to wear if you want to climb to the temple. You go in small groups at an allotted time slot and a guide comes along with you. All this is included in the price. During dry seasons it’s advisable to carry water to drink. The temple itself has been ravaged by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, but kudos to the Indonesian authorities and UNESCO for restoration and taking painstaking efforts to maintain the premises.

Definitely a must visit. You're assigned a tour guide and also you'll get a pair of sandals made by the local community. You can keep it.

Candi Borobudur in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is a breathtaking masterpiece of ancient architecture. The intricate carvings and serene backdrop create a truly captivating experience. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site that showcases the grandeur of the past. Exploring the temple's grounds reveals the rich symbolism and intricate carvings that adorn its walls. The attention to detail and craftsmanship are remarkable, showcasing the incredible skill of the ancient builders. The peaceful ambiance surrounding the temple is incredibly serene and conducive to contemplation. I highly recommend visiting Candi Borobudur for a unique and enriching experience. While access to the temple's upper levels may be limited, the lower levels still provide a glimpse into its magnificence. The sheer scale and spiritual significance of Candi Borobudur make it a must-see destination. It's a place that will leave you in awe and offer a profound connection to history and spirituality.

Borobudur Temple is a historical temple of the Buddhist religion. It is a temple worth visiting for lovers of history, antiquities, and learning about the ancient civilizations of the residents of the region. The place is not large, so you can take a walking tour, enter the temple, and take the most beautiful souvenir photos. The shrine is excellently equipped, with all necessary bathrooms and very clean public facilities available. The temperature is high, so a hat or sunglasses are required. These are also available there where you can buy or rent them, but I prefer that you prepare yourself in advance to reduce the cost 😅 Sunglasses and pre-booking a ticket to climb the temple and wander inside the temple itself. Tickets can be booked online. There is also a market for selling clothes and parts. The memorial is considered relatively cheap. The area is about an hour away from the city of Jogja by motorcycle. The road is excellent and fast. The area around the temple is very beautiful and worth a visit.

Definitely a must see. However, advise to visit early in the morning, or late afteroon. We visited midday, and it is scorching hot. Too bad though, that you are only allowed 15 minutes to roam around and appreciate the temple.

It’s a must to visit around Yogyakarta, especially to the top of the temple with just Additional or 100k Rp. But remember to secure early the ticket to the top, because only 1200 ppl is allowed per day to the top of the temple. Ohhh, remember to prepare with sun screen or cap because the sun is pretty hot. And bet fit to ready for some unbalanced height stairs climbing.

Borobudur is a must see place for anyone visiting yogyakarta. It's an hour and a half from the city so I recommend booking a car with a driver to take you there and back. You should also get the structure ticket which lets you go to the top of the temple with a guide, takes about an hour or so. Book in advance as these tickets are limited each day. A pro tip if you're going on a very hot day is to bring an umbrella for shade and a hand towel that you can wet to cool you down. Trust me it's a life saver. Also, be prepared to be hounded relentlessly by street merchants outside. Don't show any interest whatsoever and keep walking or say "tidak, therima kasi" which means "no thanks". I didn't enjoy having to do that and I hope they crack down on it. Also when you exit to go to the parking lot, they make you walk through winding rows of street merchants to hope that you might buy something. I think they learned that from Ikea. Other than that it was a great experience and I highly recommend it.

Must visit!! Obviously you must take the ticket to go up to the temple. With the ticket, you will get a slipper and most importantly a tour guide. Furthermore you can get a private photographer along the way that will guide you to the perfect spot.

👍👍 Luckily no other visitors when we visited with family even though Borobudur was quite full with crowd. Good animation and narration, kid loves the interactive screen on the wall and underfoot display of sea creatures. Too bad visitors cannot get on board the replica ship.
