Simply come here for the atmosphere and history. Nothing should be eaten here. Cold coffee was a letdown. It was cold water that had been sweetened with a pinch of coffee. The fish kaviraji was satisfactory. Despite the fact that there is a no-smoking sign on the premises, I observed people smoking right beneath it. 🤪😜

Coffee house could not maintain its great legacy and heritage which it had once upon a time. Now the food is worse than ever and the specialist which is coffee is far more worse. Just a good space to enjoy and gossip in a heritage atmosphere ,but there is no proper maintenance and the restaurant isn't cleared or cleaned properly. They literally don't have 90% of the items on their menu. The coffee tastes like 🤮🤮...

Came here for the atmosphere and history. Place of Nostalgia. Attraction is waiters’ unique white dress & unique cap was amazing. Food taste isn’t so good. Coffee was awful. But love atmosphere. Good place for smokers. And very good hangout place with friends also.

Indian Coffee House is a historical cultural place in Kolkata city and is also well-recognized by the people of the Indian sub-continent who study history and culture. However, this place is very famous for the atmosphere of it! People could enjoy different types of snacks and platters here. But the food quality is not that much appreciable considering the food price range. However, the ambiance of this place is excellent!

Situated in College Street. An Special attraction for college students, office goers and even aged people. This is the oldest cafe in the city. It's over 150 years old. The ambience is very cool and aesthetic. The price is a bit high but that won't be a problem for anyone. Service is good. Food is also good but not extraordinary. Mainly people go there for the aesthetic atmosphere. One must visit this place once or more.

The ambience takes you back in time.. The crowd is a mix from students to old people.. Tried the basics- Bread butter toast and egg sandwich and the cold coffee.. The thick shake lovers might call it watery but those who loved that Mcdonalds cold coffee will get nostalgic.. A must try for the ambience, super cheap rates and easy and short menu to choose from.. PS- Opens from 12 noon to 8 pm Cheers..

It is the oldest coffee house in Kolkata. In this coffee house you will be able to smoke freely there is no need to go to the smoking room. The food especially the snacks is really good and I will recommend you all to try the snacks. It's a good place to spend time with friends. This place becomes a bit smoky so I gave it 4 stars.

The Indian coffee house is the oldest coffee house in Kolkata, established in the 1800s. It has no doubt, been able to maintain its heritage after all these years. This place emits a really different kind of vibe, which I kinda liked it. Try some snacks with a cup of coffee here if you ever happen to visit college street.

Iconic for a reason! I think the vibe, the feel, the history and heritage of the place is what makes it faultless despite certain faults. Come here for a blissfully slow, simple time, it's like if time stood still in the best possible way! Coming to coffee, i think their infusion aka black coffee is better than their regular hot coffee. Avoid the fish kabiraji, it was weird. The butter toast was lovely, definitely try that if you like simple toast! Onion pakoda was also average.

Indian Coffee House is a nostalgic heaven that beckons friends, family, and even those seeking a authentic touch. The ambiance exudes a charming, old-world charm, making it a favourite spot for both the young and old. The pocket-friendly menu adds to its allure, offering a variety of tasty items that resonate with traditional flavors. The bustling chatter of patrons and the clinking of cups created a lively atmosphere..The waiters, dressed in traditional attire, added a touch of royalty to the experience..It's not just a place to eat; it's a journey through time, where conversations flow freely upright..Its walls adorned with portraits and shelves stacked with books create a unique ambiance. A visit to this iconic establishment is a must for anyone seeking intellectual stimulation and a taste of Kolkata's cultural heritage. Must try mutton cutlets and special coffee! USP- FISH KAVIRAJI♥️

Great place to have gossips with friends, family and the loved ones. As usual their services are not good but that's the way it is. If you want good service then you can go to new coffee house located in new town. But this place has a separate fan base, it reminds of 90's and I love the way it is. Pro tip for beginners :- if you are ordering infusion or hot coffee then do stir the coffee because the put sugar in the bottom of the cup.

The iconic Indian Coffee House in Kolkata, a must-visit place for Kolkata visitors. Definitely try out the Fish kabiraji, Chicken, Mutton cutlet/kabiraji and their ICH special cold coffee is also really good. Hygiene is a bit on the lower side and service is really slow due to the enormous crowd. It says No Smoking but no one minds as cigs and ash are disposed on the floor. Smokers can light one up along with a special cold coffee, overall it's a nice little experience.

Cafe Review: Indian Coffee House 📍College Street, Kolkata This place is heritage! You sense heritage here. It's in the air. You gossip, you smoke and have some snacks. But, the food is clearly not something you should look into with great intent. I mean, you can come here solely to visit.. but I was a little disappointed with ghe food. My order: ❗Veg Chowmein ❗Eggs Fried Rice ❗Cold Coffee . Pocket Pinch: ₹200 for two . . So I would rate the place as: ~Ambience: 5/10 ~ Food: 4/10 ~ Service: 6/10 ~ Pocket Friendliness: 8/10 ~ Overall: 5/10 .

It was a good experience I'd say. It is a bit over hyped, I'd say but nevertheless it's a warm hangout place with a good ambiance. Food is average and reasonably priced. The waiters are a bit non responsive and sometimes you'll have to call them twice or thrice. I had mixed chow and fish fry, they were quite delicious.

Simply loved it. In this day and age it has been able to survive and that too in full glory is a testimony to the charm this place has to offer. But not just the heritage is what that captivates its patron. The food and it affordable price tag brings people in the new age and the old times alike. I was pleasantly wooed by the famed chicken sandwich and chicken pakoda. They were tasty and good sized in portion. The coffee too was quite impressive. I liked the staff serving people attentively. A definite try for anyone from the city or those visiting. If nothing, just soak in the heritage and salute its resilience.

Indian Coffee House is all about art, culture and heritage. While the food might not be that great, people flock over here for the sake of living the heritage. This is the Legendary Coffee House in the Manna Dey's Song "Coffee House". The place is vibrant . It's a great place to reliving the place which has been opened since 1942. The waiters still wear the traditional attires and this place has tried to keep it's original ambience. It's a must visit place for the ones visiting Kolkata.

It's a historic place and can't be compared with any other in India. But sadly it is not been maintained as it should have been. It has a huge and lavish architecture with a small entrance. Also you can't hear what the person sitting at the next table says. So that's fantastic. All eminent freedom fighters have once visited here. Earlier the food was very good with a wide menu. But now things have changed and so did the menu.

Some argue that this social monument that witnessed some of the largest intellectual exchanges in colonial Kolkata merely remains a poor shadow of its former fiery glory. A powerhouse of ideas and ideologues during the days of the Raj, with some of Bengali history's foremost luminaries having deliberated and debated socio-political conversations of the highest order, Coffee House stands as a solemn and nostalgic souvenir of the intellectual revolution that ushered a climate of passionate engagement with politics, literature, art, and culture - all embedded in the centrality of the Indian Independence Movement. The fact that it hasn't been modernized or refurbished, and retains the aesthetic of India's colonial days, is delightful for those who wish a short glimpse into the relics of the recent past. The food, however, is awful, and moderately edible at best. Go here for a trip down a nation's memory lane - a focal point of vigorous thought and activity iconic to the essence of Kolkata as an ever-evolving city.

The Indian Coffee house is the intellectual hub of Kolkata located in the intellectual nerve centre of Kolkata preferably called Boipara . It is on the bucket list of every newcomer in the city and grabbing a seat in the coveted coffee house is another game here . The people serving there are dressed in colloquial white fashion . Once you step your feet into the coffee house , it feels as if time has freezed . I ordered only coffee and onion pakora as it were being some of the affordable items on the menu . The onion pakoras were good as fried stuff are meant to be but the coffee was really bad and I mean it . Nevertheless for one time experience it is a good place . Go and enjoy with your friends and family , it is a good place for adda indeed .

Best place for spending some quality time . This place has a nostalgic history . Very reasonable price but I suggest to increase the quality or taste. Most of the staffs take long time to note the orders. Even they serve late. One or two old staffs are very ill - mannered which degrade the authenticity & image of the indian coffee house.

The rich history of the place is what attracts the most customers. The ambience feels magical, the food - not so much. If you want to visit this place for food, then I'd suggest looking somewhere else. The cold coffee, hot coffee, cutlet and fish fry we ordered were below average. If you want to enjoy the ambience and have a good time with your buddies, this is the place to be. Overall rating: 6/10 Overall verdict: Great place for ambience/hanging out due to its rich cultural history, but not for the food.

This place has a very nice ambience. The coffee is not up to par, and the butter toast is too delicious. A bad smell comes from the bathroom near the dining area, and thus it needs to be cleaned. It's a pleasant location to sit and talk with friends overall. And the issue at hand is parking. There is a pay parking on the streets close to the restaurant.

After so many years, the aroma of The Indian Coffee House is still immortal🥰🥰💕... When I entered this place for the first time, I was very disturbed because proper maintenance is not done and the building parts should be repaired.... But when I entered the dining hall, yeah I was speechless💕💕💕💕💕💕... Old nostalgia, romanticism, Manna dey's age old immortal song "Coffee House er sei adda".... you can feel everything... Then, I ordered Cold Coffee and Chikchen Hakka Noodles... You just can't belive how much tasty those were... i was drinking Cold Coffee for the first time and I am really feeling lucky that my first time was just exceptional🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑.... The cost was much less than many restaurants and hotels of Kolkata... I ordered for Chicken and Fish Kabiraji (the main thing for which the Coffee House is famous, information collected from my father🤭🤭) Both were amazing.... 💕💕💕💕💕 P.S.- Don't follow Google maps, the actual location shown there is wrong... Rely on your eyes and ears😁😁😁😁

Very cheap in price, food quality is good but don't expect like renowned restaurants, more like quick snacks of roadside cafe. It is very pocket friendly to college students and smoke lovers. No bar in smoking. But it is difficult to get seat in the peak time and waiting hour is long. If you are in a long chit chatting mood with friends then it is the best place. Best thing to eat is cutlet, kabiraji, Hakka noodles and it is must to have coffee in coffee house.

The place has a charm of its own. The old decor, the rugged furnitures and the old menu all have their own importance in the history of the place. People spend hours here chatting away or reading newspapers sipping over a cup of tea or coffee. Their best tradition kept alive are there waiters, who are all dressed up in full white with turbans to compliment the look. ?☕

College Street Coffee House or Indian Coffee House is a cafe located opposite the Presidency University in College Street, the most famous of Indian Coffee House  branches in Kolkata. It has been for a long time a regular hang out and a renowned meeting place (adda) for people in College Street. It has played an important part in Calcutta's (Kolkata) cultural history and known as the hub of intellectual debates. The food tastes good . This is a NO SMOKING AREA but i saw people smoking there.

I visited the place on a Monday afternoon, it was packed up, only few tables were available and they soon got filled while we took one. Coming to the food. It's utter disgust. It's overpriced, not tasty and not even warm. I ordered a chicken cutlet, and a chicken sandwich. The former cost INR 85 and the later INR 75. The price is not the factor only if the taste justifies it, but it doesn't. The sandwich is only shredded chicken with little amount of butter, and not even properly salted. The cutlet was the worst. It was just a big piece of potato and veggies stuffing coated with a earth crust size layer of breadcrumbs, if you are lucky you can find 4-5 chicken pieces which is also not tasty. With all this disgust, add the fact that it was not even warm. The waiters are very weird, one waiter usually takes a table and serves them (this is very normal), but here one waiter will take 3-4 tables and if you mistakenly don't give your order (maybe because you are still deciding on your food) the first time he comes, he will take the the rest table order and will return only after bringing them food. You have to wait until he returns, because no other waiter will take your order even they are free. There is some understanding between then I guess, they mark tables and no other waiter will take your order. It's disgusting. I'm very disappointed, I gave the extra one star only because it's nostalgia for many. I don't recommend this so called Cafe.

// Indian Coffee House // It's a good place if you are quite fascinated with the heritage, art and nostalgia of old Kolkata. Undoubtedly it's still one of the most go-to places to hang out and chill around for long hours. Cozy ambiance and adda culture oozes out from every corner of this place. But if you talk about the quality of food with respect to the price then it's quite not the place that you would love too much. Apart from that the order comes a little late than usual. So in terms of ambiance, it's a good place to explore but for food and drinks it's not the place to be. Still, if you also feel bounded by the legendary song by Manna Dey then checking out this place will only make you go through each and every line of that song.

During my visit to Kolkata in Feb 2023. I visited the Indian Coffee House and it was a good time. It is situated in college street so you will find a lot of college students. Even other responsible citizens of the country. As the coffee house is the regular hangout place for the students, intellectuals, etc. So sometimes you have to wait in queue to get a place to sit and relax. The service is good and also the food and the beverages. The atmosphere is cool and aesthetic. As the coffee house was one of the oldest in the city and many noble citizens were frequent visitors to the place so that makes it a heritage for intellectuals and students. So if you are in Kolkata then its a must place to visit.

Oldest cafe in the town. It transports you back in time with its high ceilings, small tables set together and high-set windows of homely atmosphere. It has a special attraction because of Manna dey's famous song named "Coffee House". Dishes and beverages here are highly affordable. Food quality is good but not extraordinary. It has two floors. You can smoke in the second floor. The service is really good. Particularly appealing to young but also suitable for the elderly. It is a hub for the city’s well-known intellectuals and litterateurs. You will see young people are busy at debating, discussing and exchanging ideas over coffee. You can listen to the stories from the waiters while dining. It remains open 9 AM to 9 PM. Has restrooms but no parking.

If you want to see the tradition of old Kolkata, you can come here..There is so much to talk about the coffee house that it is not possible to write here. Best Place for adda in college street. Overall, this coffee house carries on the tradition of 90s.

Indian Coffee House is one of the must visiting place in Kolkata city. To feel the essence of the city Kolkata, one must visit this place, situated just opposite to Presidency University, Kolkata. It is on the first floor of the building. Nearest 🚇 metro station- Central/MG road Nearest rail station- Sealdah Nearest Bus stop- College Street junction People comes here and takes little food and spend more times in various types of discussion by relaxing their mind. Noone is interested in having quality food here, rather quality time spending in this one of the oldest coffe shop of Kolkata is much more important here. Coffee, tea and different types of snacks available. Behaviour of the staffs are very good. Some features of this shop- 1) Inside seating area available. 2) Washroom available for Gents and ladies. ♿ Wheelchair accessible toilet not available. 3) Fire extinguisher available inside 4) ♿ Wheelchair accessible entrance (ramp) not available 5) ♿ Wheelchair accessible seperate car parking space not available. 6) Foot operated sanitizer dispenser available during COVID-19 days

Indian Coffee House is located opposite the presidency university in college street. This is famous & remarkable cafe among the Indian coffee house branches. But prices of dishes are so costly. Food quality is good. Now , in this pandemic situation, the organizers are maintaining all the safety protocols.

Visited after 10 months. The amount of dishes were reduced due to covid. Food and water were served in paper plates and plastic cups instead of porcelain ones. Ordered coffee, hakka noodles and chilli chicken. Tasted almost the home. (PS - Thousand times better than the newtown one. As we all know there is only one original coffee house ❤)

This place is not only a coffee house this is a place where you will connect your heart with others. A place where you will find various kind of people. I personally go there not only take a sip of their coffee but also open the entrances of my heart with my friends. I love this place. Okay now the main thing , the place is crowded so if you are thinking about Covid19 then you can avoid this place.

Five star for not the food tastes but for preserving all the history as visible as possible. All Bengali people heard the famous song of Manna Dey based on this coffee house. So loved to be there. But did not get enough taste from the foods. Whatever it was wonderful to be there.

Not so good. Food quality is so average than expected, but price is comparetively high. Also very congested space. This place don't have sufficient seats for customers also, they have to wait for it. We ordered some hot coffee there but the coffee wasn't that much good. Though this place has some nostalgia so you can visit it for once only.

One can still feel the vibe here. The old charm, the old coffee smell in the air. Do not expect this to treat you and the food to be like you get in a regular cafe. Indian coffee house is the place where this cafe culture began and it has its own taste and flavours. Chicken sandwich, fish fry, fish finger and some coffee, is all that you need. One can sit here with a book or laptop for hours and keep sipping your coffee. One more thing, you won’t get tea here!!

*insert emo history and heritage quotes on Kolkata and college street* Drop by. Get a coffee smoke a cigarette. Act intellectual like everyone else around. Click a few pictures. Downright, falls under historic places and not, at all under places to snack at. Great place, if u go in, with the right expectations.

Although the quality of service and food has deteriorated a bit but still the place holds a very nostalgic emotion in all the heart of Bengalis or Calcuttans. Must visit to experience how actually 'Adda' happens over Indian Coffee House in the Albert Hall, College Street.

The house was full of smokers, I ordered Mutton cutlet and Fish cutlet. In mutton cutlet there was no sign of mutton. Fish cutlet was average quality. Then I ordered a cold coffee 😂. It was a jokes rather than cold coffee. The just did coffee with freeze water. Totally worst experience. I went there just for the hype created by the people and to experience the song "coffee house er shei adda ta aaj r nei" by Manna Dey. I will never go again there.

One of the vintage hubspot for all Bengalis. Is located in central kolkata near Presidency college. Cafeteria serves both veg and non veg and famous for its kobirajis and coffe with gossips. The taste of coffee or tea is average but the ambience and look and feel will win your heart. The chicken kobiraji is not good with taste. Tbh but rest dish is good enough for one to try.

Place of Nostalgia 🖤 Place of british ruled architecture. Attraction is waiters’ unique white dress & unique cap. If you opt for a highfi cafè this is obviously not for you; but if you wanna explore ancient India specifically ancient Kolkata and old memories with homely environment this place is for you. Food quality isn’t so good. Must explore once in life.

Ambience was very good 😊. Foreigners also visit here. Those who don't like cigarette 🚬, may feel suffocating (my personal opinion) cause majority of the people smoke here. But food was good 😋. Service was also very very nice and friendly 😊. Whenever you come, always come with much time in hand, then relax and chill 😊🤞. From light food to rich food, everything is available 😊. Just loved the place 💓. Food items are moderate expensive... Overall a good place to spend time and be relaxed ☺️.

The vibe that this century old place gives is incomparable. The abundance of history and heritage it just holds, will always have a special place in the heart of every bengali. But now comes the food, it's nothing different at all, the taste is not something that I will remember. The cutlets are hard and dry. The coffee is just way too sweet. Maybe they should focus more on improving their food quality. And won't complain about the service just like other's are doing over the internet. It was okay for me.

One of the legendary place in college street area. This place always remain full with students and old aged people. Price of the food items are very much reasonable here. But don't try the coffee section, else you'll forget the actual taste of proper coffee. Although non smoking boards are hanging out in the dining area but you'll hardly found a person who is not smoking there. But overall a great place to have some adda with your friends.

This place was okay. First of all for a person visiting after years, it was a puzzle to just find the entrance to this place. Also there are two floors, wood suggest for better view check the second floor of the restaurant first then the lower floor. Service staff here are the old staff, they are in generally rude and do not like customers who are guessing what to order. Food here in simple terms is not that fast, economic. Mostly a good place to catch up with friends and gossip or move to a better location.

One of my favourite place in Central Kolkata, but here the most of the timing you will see gathering, price is medium standard. Food quality is no doubt good but when you ordered a food, you have to wait more than 30 minutes to get the food. Catering and behaviour of the server is also good.

  • 5/5 Manikandan A. 4 years ago on Google
Historical place You can still see the paintings that were made during the British-India era. The menu also hasn't changed since then is what I heard from some people in Kolkata. Coffee is not so great, but something different. You get to taste what the Britishers enjoyed. Coffee with cream is a bit different and good enough. Fish cutlet is a must try. Mutton cutlet was also good. Mostly crowded, so expect little delay in service. I didn't see any ATM card machine there. I guess it's a cash only place. So it will be better if you carry some cash with you. It's a little costly, maybe because of the history. Giving 5 stars just for the awe of the architecture and fish cutlet, not for the coffee.

  • 2/5 Aritra C. 4 years ago on Google
Overrated. I have been going here for quite some time now and i am going to share what i have truly experienced. Firstly, the food quality is below average. The moghlai overflows with oil and is loaded with an unnecessary portion of onions. Needless to mention how sweet the coffee is. Moreover, the increased prices have made the menu less appetizing. However, it is good for a hangout spot where you can spend hours over a cup of coffee and cigarettes. Tip: You can have the Chicken Afghani. It's really delicious!

College Street Coffee House (কফি হাউস) or Indian Coffee House is a cafe located opposite the Presidency University in College Street, the most famous of Indian Coffee House branches in Kolkata. It has been for a long time a regular hang out and a renowned meeting place (adda) for intellectuals and students (and ex-students) of the Presidency College, University of Calcutta, and other institutions in College Street. It has played an important part in Calcutta's (Kolkata) cultural history and known as the hub of intellectual debates.

We don't believe in posh cafeterias if it doesn't call for inclusion at all levels. Look around and you'll find college people joking with their professors, amateur musicians, writers, journalists and intellectuals laughing their worries away, lovers teasing each other and bookworms devouring into books and forgetting about their untouched coffee with cigarettes in their hands.. Time stops here, as if even Time has had grown tired of running all day and stopped by for a break, maybe a joke and a cuppa coffee.. This place embodies the spirit of Kolkata. ❤

It is a place of heritage. It also has such an amazing location. It is a must visit place for bookworms. Carry a book or buy from the market below and sit there with coffee and snacks. One can go with their friends also. Adda+coffee+snacks makes an amazing combination. The service is very nice. The staffs were very polite and helpful. The food was not up to the mark. The famous chicken kobiraji and cutlet are not available in this covid time. I hope they will put it back in there menu after the situation improves. You can also get, chowmein, fish finger, sandwiches there. Smoking is allowed within the coffee house. Overall a nice place to hangout for everyone irrespective of any age.

  • 5/5 Faisal E. 3 years ago on Google
The place is definitely not about pakoda, sandwiches or coffee. Those are the add-ons, according to me. It's about the serene calmness you'll get to feel amidst the chatter of the city. This "adda" brings you a step closer towards understanding "Calcutta" and it's legacy. Do pay a visit over here to have a glimpse of the joyous & zealous past of the city of joy..

A nostalgia, A Heritage of our Kolkata. Standing tall for centuries witnessed some great revolutionaries like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Rabindranath Tagore, etc. This place in College Street is a must visit. It has opened a new outlet at New Town. The place offers Coffee as by the name. And also some great snacks with it. Prices are very pocket friendly. Love this place.

The writing hub of Satyajit Ray, the place where left politics in India was discussed, debated, where Indian History was made. If you happen to know, Indian Coffee House was one of the few places during the time of colonization to have the board "Dogs and Indians not allowed" and is one of the oldest coffee chains across India owned and maintained by the Indian Government today.

One of the very few places in college street to sit and have food and have a talk.. Ideal for catching up with friends and chat and take time.. because the service people do not have any rush, they will delay in taking orders, they will not rush in bring the cheque.. so that's the flipside advantage of it.. you can take some leisure and and just relax.. food is okayish, nothing brilliant.. the omlette was too oily for breakfast..

  • 5/5 Nilanjana Chattopadhyay T. 3 years ago on Google
It's more than 100 years old coffee shop. It's a very popular place in College Street. It serves classic coffee, cold coffee as well as breakfast and snacks also one will have chinese dishes here. The whole place is allowed for smoking. In covid situation they are serving in disposable cups and plates.

  • 3/5 DILLIP M. 3 years ago on Google
You go to Indian Coffee House for Adda and the classic vibe. It's got a rich history and it's the favorite hangout place of college students. And that's it. The coffee that is served is average at best and food quality isn't good.

  • 4/5 Nihit S. 3 years ago on Google
Great Nostalgic feeling.. Great place for friends to hangout for unlimited time and you can smoke their too though the signs of no smoking is there. Staffs are good though they take some time to bring your dishes.. Coffee always comes very cold.. should focus on giving the coffee hot..

Indian Coffee House or only “Coffee House” as it is commonly known  at College Street can be traced back in history to Albert Hall, which was founded in April 1876.Later, the Coffee Board decided to start a coffee joint from the Albert Hall in 1942. Notable citizens were frequent visitors to the place. In 1947, the Central Government changed the name of the place to “Coffee House”.The place became a meeting place for the poets, artistes, literati and people from the world of art and culture. The Coffee house provides a nostalgic feeling to all those who visit it. To be able to sit in the place and spend some time where some great minds of our nation has spend their time is indeed quite thrilling.

This Coffee House is well worth visiting. It has been serving coffee for over 200 years. Really busy, boisterous and buzzing with vibrant energy. Some food served but in this case just had the coffee. We grew up reading about this place in several books and listening its name from a famous song of Manna Dey. The place is very dirty and you wouldn't want to have any coffee or food from here. You should go only if you have a memory attached to it. Great Nostalgic place, Remember old days!! An Awesome Place with Touch Of History. You Can feel it's vibes through out every corner. Many of Indian scholars, freedom fighters, politicians etc was spent their valuable times in this coffe house.before covid days this place offers various types of snacks & foods, but after covid the menu chart changed with unavailability of some items.this place also good for day out with your family.the staffs are very friendly & well behaved, also they are wearing masks for safety reasons. But one suggestion from me that foods can be made more tasty.otherwise this place is nice. Finally you can feel the history & the culture every part of Indian Coffee House College Street.

Indeed a good and cheap place to have coffee, fish fry,egg sandwich and so on. Rates are very cheap and so is the cleanliness. Once a table is vacant, the waiter will not clean it up for you. However, you can still sit and enjoy the chaotic scene

The law of gravity states what goes up has to come down. When I visited this restaurant after 15 years this line came to my mind. Firstly I couldn’t locate it as things have changed so much. As I climbed up the stairs to the first floor and then to the 2nd floor towards the balcony I realised the energy level inside have not changed a bit. A lot of youngsters are spending their time talking with high passion and energy. But with a heavy heart I have to accept that cleanliness has really taken a beating. I guess it doesn’t matter for a patron but a place with so much of history somehow is not able to keep up with the modern world and I pray with a heavy heart that it shouldn’t wither off into oblivion I sat in a corner and waited patiently for the waiter to take the order. Thankfully they remain gleeful as ever when I greeted him. The rates of the food continues to be primitive and probably that allows a lot of student and youngster to come here. I ordered bread-butter, mutton cutlet & a coffee. Another thing which caught my attention is a No smoking board, which is a rarity in Kolkata city. However as expected people were smoking merrily all across even sitting below the board Bye bye coffee house. Looks like I have changed and can’t keep up to the standards you are maintaining. I have boasted about you a lot to my foreign friends & to me you signified Kolkata. But I guess everything comes to an end. Probably you will fight on and my child will visit you some day. But I will not be able to boast nor feel the nostalgia any more !

If we can walk a little further in front of Kolkata University, we can observe a huge bustling borough of booksellers. We can climb the stairs of the Indian Coffee House through plenties of books, tales and crowds. From the pictures on the walls to the conversations around the chairs, the eyes will breathe amazed ... Even the burning cigarette butts look like a symbol of wonder... I always wish to find time to trudge into the sides of the Indian coffee house during the time in Kolkata.

A heritage place of Kolkata. No visit to the iconic College Street is complete without a cup of coffe and an intellectual discourse at this decades-old coffe house. The food quality is good which boasts of a veg and non-veg menu, mostly of snacks, though priced a bit on the higher side. Poorly lit, invaded by cobwebs n dearth of space is in no way a deterrence to the Calcuttan crowd, who pride in this place as an inseparable part of Kolkata. This place is definitely worth a visit.

Retro!.. It's a coffee house since British time... It gives you the vibe of that. It's one of the best place to hang out with friends who like old-school.. Smoking is not strictly prohibited as i have seen people smoking there but not sure if it's possible all the time for more look at ICH guidelines ... Must take care of people at your adjacent tables while smoking ..Note: It doesn't accept online payment.

I visited this place today for the first time..hearing its popularity. The place is spacious. The service good. But the food is terrible. We ordered Chicken Omelette and Egg Omelette which were very very very oily. We could literally taste the oil. There was no salt or pepper sprinkled over. The chicken was bad. Also we ordered Black and Cold Coffee. The cold Coffee was too sweet but decent for me since I have a sweet tooth but it was all liquid. Black Coffee was terrible. Hygiene wise its okayish. Not too bad. Not too good. It's pocket friendly. You can even smoke there.

Located at the heart of the College Street boi para, just opposite Presidency University and few steps from Calcutta University, this place has been a favourite to the scholars for ages. The famous Manna Dey song has made it immortal. The ones that are regular here will understand, will know how the "adda" has lived on. Most of the food is very ordinary from sandwiches to the chowmein. One will definitely be disappointed if he/she visits with high expectations. Even the coffee is going downhill. The only saving grace is the black coffee which you can keep sipping as many times you want. It takes time(sometimes very long) for the order to get served and once done you will be asked to leave the table or order more. A number of staffs are unfriendly. The price is reasonable here, however, the balcony section has a higher price. If you are a non-smoker you will have it difficult with almost everyone around you smoking. Cats do roam around and under the table but they are friendly, doesn't bother anyone much. So if you have some time and a group of friends this is the place. You may also locate some of the popular faces of the city sitting in their adda session and no one bothering them much, such it is. I have been visiting this place for 8 years now. Never disappoints.

Coming to conclusion it's a good place to come and spend time along with good nostalgia but coming to service it's average and they also forget to give balance ask them out

A place of heritage no doubt. But needs maintenance now. A good place for an adda only maybe. Not a place to dine . Horrible coffee, noodles, overpriced. Behaviour of the staff is so rude. Yeah, i understand that they have to face and serve different types of customers the whole day, but that's their only job apparently, they need to be kind and soft.

Kolkata and Coffee House----Synonymous. Year after year, everytime you visit here, you'll get the same olfdnostalgia, same feel, And you'll never miss to see groups of people sitting round the table discussing Politics and Bengal. Everything changes, Coffee House Doesn't.

A place with historic significace! You will get tonnes of video about it on YouTube hence skipped the history. Onto the present, the place is not well maintained! The coffee doesn't taste good and the menu lacks variety too! The place is very noisy and has a low-key entrance which undermines the potential and significance.

It's a place I personally like to go more often , here you can get good food and the traditional building gives you a good vibe . All foods are tasty enough and people who serves us also behaves pretty well . Now that we go more often we're familiar to this place . Most importantly they maintain proper hygiene in washroom . And also there's a book stall in the entrance where you can find best selling books. So yes , it's a thumbs up .

Ambience speaks of the history this place holds within its walls. Smoking is allowed which is debatable. No additional GST charges added beyond the price which is mentioned in the menu. Nice place for a visit.

  • 5/5 Aayush K. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing place to hangout with friends. It also has a historic value attached to it as many famous personalities used to frequent this place like Satyajit Ray and Rabindranath Tagore. One aspect that should change is that there should be a separate smoking area but apart from that everything from the food to the service was great.

  • 5/5 SOHAM S. 2 years ago on Google
The nostalgia of the greatest, back to the indian history. Honestly speaking you have to compromise with the food taste, but ambience at its top.

  • 3/5 SHABUJ K. 2 years ago on Google
Its okay but not great. Only suitable for college students and breakfast eaters. Staff is not attentive. Portion sizes are less against the prices. The normal water looks pretty unhygienic, you need to purchase the bottles. Overall, I guess the hype for this place is only because of its history, vintage and nostalgic existence.

  • 4/5 Su 2 years ago on Google
Constantly busy, humming with human activity. Public smokers are allowed so be prepared to sit next to a smoker. Masks are not enforced, so the onus is on you. The buttery toast with their coffee is good. Their menu has everything from first fingers to fried rice. Good for breakfast to high tea.

  • 4/5 Arnab P. 2 years ago on Google
Nostalgic setting with great ambience and energy. The visiting students, discussions, and camaraderie are what makes the place, not the very average food or service. Be prepared for someone smoking right next to your face.

This coffee house placed in 15, Shyama Charan Dey St, near Sharda Book Stall, College Square West. This coffee house has heritage itself. It is 145 years old coffee house. Famous writer, Poet, Novelist, artist regular go through there. You get coffee, tea , snacks and many more foods here at very cheap cost and the quality of food is really good . The behavior of the staff , waiter must won your heart. I obviously refer anyone to go there for chit chat or casual meeting.

First of all we ordered food a long time ago but it came very late .. the cold coffee was not upto the mark but the noodles was not bad.. but what I hated most was the toxic cigarette environment although it was a no-smoking zone.. I think they need to improve the some food quality as well as the toxicity diffusing around there..

Influence of the great song "কফি হাউজের সেই আড্ডাটা আজ আর নেই, আজ আর নেই।" I visited here on 21.09.2021. It was very exciting moment for me. I like it so much. Awesome please, historical test of interior design and the waiter service. Anyone can visit the Indian Coffee house if you get any chance to come Kolkata. The history of the Coffee House at College Street can be traced to Albert Hall, which was founded in April 1876. Later, the Coffee Board decided to start a coffee joint from the Albert Hall in 1942. Notable citizens were frequent visitors to the place. In 1947, the Central Government changed the name of the place to "Coffee House". The place became a meeting place for the poets, artistes, literati and people from the world of art and culture. In 1958, the management decided to shut down the Coffee House, but it was re-opened the same year, after professors of Presidency College and Calcutta University rushed off a special petition to the government, to save the heritage place. In 2006, a huge financial crunch kept the co-operative society from undertaking renovation of the coffee house. Though a few companies such as Asian Paints approached the society with offers to renovate the restaurant, the offers were refused due to clash of norms and conditions. During the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, the house was closed for 103 days and resumed its normal operation on 2nd of July 2020.

Everytime i go to college street(boi para) i go to coffee house for fun and food. Various food available but most of them are snacks like sandwich, kutlet. We ordered one egg sandwich and one chicken noodle. As per me one noodle can be shared by 2 person. Noodle quality was not that good(avg). Egg sandwich was good for me as i dont like oily food. Simple sandwich. One more good think for smokers is that u can smoke there at ur table. Non smokers or if anyone has problem with cigarette smoke better not to go there. But i think u should visit the place anyway. U will like the environment.

The Indian Coffee House was a disappointment to be honest. Not that every item was bad, but the terrible service surely ruined the experience. The Fish Finger and the Mutton Sandwich were decent, everything else was plain bad. The onion and chicken pakodas had anything but onion and chicken. Very disappointing.

College Street Coffee House or Indian Coffee House is a cafe located opposite the Presidency University in College Street, the most famous of Indian Coffee House branches in Kolkata.

I was very excited to visit this place as it was in my checklist. It was not at all disappointing, when I stepped in to this place. It took me to flashback of the Colonel times, which we have visualized in AV/TV and novels. The place is huge with double storey sitting arrangement. I took a balcony view sitting arrangement. I agree the waiters are slow, but atleast they are employed and running homes at this age. Honestly, all the waiters I came across are almost 50+. I will not get into why they have to leave house and earn at this age, they are earning and that's make me happy. Food is good and very affordable, I will not say you will see 5 star presentation, but food is good seeing the price. However, the menu price is little high for Balcony floor than the Main hall. The waiters are dressed in White dress with turban and waist band, giving a glimpse of Britishers. Also, the smoking is open creating an ambiance of British era. Happy and satisfied with my visit. Food ordered - - Chicken Kobiraji - Chicken Cutlet - Coffee - Chicken Chowmin - Chilly Chicken

After long time, I went to Coffee House alone with one of my friends.. Thought we will recollect our old memories.. But sorry to say I was totally Disappointed.. And this is only due to very bad Coffee House management... First of all it's no smoking zone.. But lots of people are smoking setting nearby without thinking about others and no one tailing them. More over there is no Ashtray in the table and the floor is full of ashes. Hight of everything is..When all people are seating and taking food and all ceilings fans are on, cleaning stuff are cleaning the floor with dry broom ... 😞 all ashes are flying in the air... It was horrible.. Last point I want to mention, the quality of food is very bad except Coffee and bread toast. I know quality comes with price. But I am asking the basic which very much comes with in this prices. We may say that this place is for the student and they can't afford more.. But what ever they are spending, they deserve batter quality and environment... And it's very much possible if Coffee House management spend some time for this rather than the money... It's my request to all the visitor to keep the place clean... 🙏

It is very nice experience of this famous Coffee House. Always crowded but you will get seat in just 2-3 mins. Food quality is good at reasonable rate. Feeling nostalgic to visit it.

Lends to nostalgia. Fish fry, chowmein and cold coffee were really good. The food has not changed in decades. Artwork around the place was really exquisite. Building is really old like most in that area. Very close to Paramount too. Also smoker friendly. I asked for an ashtray and the waiter said I could just use the floor. Brownie points ?!

It's a nostalgia for the 80's born. We used to came here in our college days during 2003 to 2006. Ambiance is as exact as we left but the food now is pathetic.

Must try mutton cutlets and special coffee! A place where you can see the intellectuals crowd. :) I guess it’s been around for quite sometime that it’s been a place where great conversations happen. The service is okayish! But definitely for the food and intellectual vibes 🙌🏾

It is a Heritage site that's for sure. Mentioned in the songs, Stories etc. But it's now old and you might like some place better than this. You can smoke inside it. People sometimes share their nostalgic memory there which you can't relate to.

The atmosphere is only holding the heritage of this place. The waiter wiped the fork using his apron after I asked him to clean it. The food was average, cold coffee was only for namesake, don't waste your money on this. Only good for smoking peacefully.

This place brings back nostalgia, One of the heritage of Kolkata. Ambiance was 10/10. Food - We ordered Chicken chowmein Hakka, Mutton cutlet and hot coffee. Mutton cutlet was horrible felt like there was no mutton in it, noodle was ok and coffee was below average.

This is the oldest place in Kolkata. The Indian Coffee House. The place became a meeting place for poets, artistes, literati and people from the world of art and culture. The coffee house is famous for its adda sessions, and as the breeding place of several political and cultural personalities and movements. However, the quality of the food and drink is still good.

Indian coffee house in college street is a place that is surviving basically on nostalgia. Located in a prime location in between the book market nearest to presidency university and the calcutta university the place is always busy. Coming to the food part most of the food they make tastes very average it is recommended that one should never take their cold coffee as it is just literally a " cold " coffee, If you know what I mean. 😂 The food prices are not very high but according to the quality it is unjustified. Coming to the service part the waiters here are extremely rude and think of themselves as the boss. They will behave with you like you're their servant. Also they'll throw you out as soon as your food is finished. Now lastly coming to the atmosphere part, this is the good part that's why I keep coming over and over again for the last 7-8 years. The ambience captures the vibe of old kolkata, there are people from every age group reading books, discussing films and talking politics. Many stalwarts also visit this place. Also the best part of this place is you can smoke cigarettes while having the sips of your coffee inside only which makes the place perfect for bangalee bhodroloks who like to take a drag of their long cigarettes every other second while sipping to their favourite hot drink tea/coffee. My recommendation would be to visit this place if you're just in for going out somewhere or you're visiting Kolkata as this place is good for heritage. However if your sole purpose is eating some good food then go visit some good cafe please. My rating - 5/10

    # The Indian Coffee House: A Classic Experience I have always heard about the legendary **Indian Coffee House** at **College Street**, but never got a chance to visit it until today. I went there with my friend, and we were both excited to see what this iconic place had to offer. We entered the two-storey building, and decided to go to the first floor, which had an open balcony overlooking the busy street. The waiters, dressed in their traditional white uniforms and turbans, greeted us warmly and showed us to our table. We quickly scanned the menu, which had a variety of dishes ranging from **50 to 200 rupees**. We ordered a **plate of chicken kabiraji** (110/-), a crispy fried chicken cutlet coated with egg, and a **cold coffee** (55/-), a refreshing drink made with milk, coffee and ice cream. We didn't have to wait long for our food, as it arrived in about **10 minutes**. The chicken kabiraji was **delicious**, with a crunchy exterior and a tender interior, served with some tangy sauce and salad. The cold coffee was **creamy** and **frothy**, with a strong coffee flavor and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. We enjoyed our meal, while admiring the **ambience** of the place, which had a vintage charm and a lively atmosphere. The tables were small and cozy, suitable for two or four people. We sat near a window, and watched the people and vehicles passing by. After finishing our food, we paid our bill through **UPI**, a convenient digital payment method, and left the place. We were **satisfied** with our experience, and felt that we had a taste of the history and culture of Kolkata. Here is my rating for the Indian Coffee House: - Food : **4/5** - Ambience : **4/5** - Staff and behaviour : **5/5** - Location : **5/5** - Budget and pricing : **4/5** **Overall : 4.4/5** I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to try some authentic Bengali cuisine, and enjoy a classic coffee house experience. It is a must-visit for any food lover in Kolkata.

When I planned the trip to the city of Joy, the only thing I have been hearing from the young people is that I must visit this place. I finally got a step into the coffee house after the Durga Pooja celebrations. Its an old and charming building and huge dining place inside and also on the top of the house. As soon as you enter, you will start feeling nostalgic and go in the past. You will find many youngsters and old people sipping coffee or having omelette and indulged in some serious conversations. Its a place known of chattering and sharing information or discussing the history of India. Its a hub for all the artists of Kolkata who come together to discuss over a cup of coffee or smoke. t's not just a place to eat; it's a journey through time, where conversations flow freely and memories linger. A visit to Indian Coffee House is not just about the food; it's an experience that binds generations together in the heart of delightful nostalgia. I had two cup of coffee. The prices are reasonable and affordable.

The place is very nice & carries the smell of pure Kolkata. The food, the ambience all are equally good. The washrooms are clean. Only I found the staff's behavior a little rude & non cooperative.

It can’t be described in words …. It’s not just a random coffee shop or café or some restaurant…. It’s a Bengali emotion …a vintage place where people_friends_families used to gather after their daily routine life ….. no age barriers …. All the age group from students to senior citizens come altogether to share their whereabouts…. So it’s a must visit place if you’re coming to Kolkata to enjoy the old streets & some time quality vintage time …. Food taste is good … and in case you want to explore the coffee in particular then go for special coffee. Last time I visited there wasn’t such option but now they have added special coffee… so you can try or else enjoy just the food specially fish fingers and fish kobiraji…😇

👍👍 Recently visited this place and trust me, it was worth every penny. The ambiance was great. We had Mutton Chello Kebab. The kebabs were very juicy and tender, I couldn't stop drooling! The egg yolk was runny and just perfect. The rice portion had a nice fresh smell and all together it was magical in...
