The place is nice, traditional and well located. Sadly they haven’t been able to keep up with the reputation they had. It’s one of the most famous restaurants in Barcelona, but it’s simply not worth it. The food is local, but just average, and you end up paying much higher than the average.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. Truly the best seafood Paella I've EVER had. Servers are kind, polite, attentive and patient. Really worth the expense for a fancy meal now and then. The old style decor and atmosphere was relaxed. To finish, we were lucky enough to attend during st. George's Day celebrations, so the restaurant gave each lady a rose, very kind! We really enjoyed it! will certainly return on a special occasion.

This restaurant was a decent first culinary experience in Barcelona. The service was exceptional and the venue is historic. The food was okay. The appetizer olives were bitter. For our meal we had paella. The flavor was delicious but overall the dish was far too salty. For dessert, we had a mango dish they called sorbet. It was really more like an icy or slushy. The mango flavor was very strong but flat as though it needed a pinch of sugar or something to balance the flavor. Visit 7 Portes to experience a piece of Barcelona culinary history but don't set your expectations of the meal too high or you will be disappointed.

For most part very average food. The platter of tapas was mostly tasteless. The vegetarian paella was average at best. The gazpacho also lacked flavour. The servers though attentive are not the ones who can make guests feel welcome. Great brag value of having eaten in a restaurant that is 185 years old and has served the likes of Pablo Picasso. An old restaurant for old folks. The average age of diners must be somewhere upward of 50. Would not recommend, in a city like barcelona which is rife with ground breaking restaurants and truly great food.

Historic bar in Barcelona. We attended a set menu birthday dinner. The staff is polite and knowledgeable. The well-kept restaurant with a retro style. You can taste all the classic Catalan specialties. The only flaw was the management of the drinks, wanting to serve by the glass we were a long time without being able to drink. Excellent wines

We couldn’t wait to try out first paella. We searched online and this was in the top 3. We walked by countless outside posted ads for paella. All reviews said “don’t” go to one of those places with the flashy pics because it’s probably frozen. So we skipped all the flash and came to this very nice restaurant. Our reservation was held as we were 10 minutes late (so hard getting Uber there). And they were very nice about and accommodating. The staff was great. Their service is very elegant. Not a bad thing to say about the surroundings. The food however. Well. To me I expected the best and got what I believe to be average at best. The wife had 1 half of a tail in her seafood paella that was mostly squid. My “meat” paella had one little sausage and very little meat. So sadly to say it was a disappointment. So therefore 3 stars is being fair.

If you want great dishes with seafood, you have to come here. But only for that, don't expect anything from the soup or side dish (like potatoes). We first tried the Spanish Gazpacho and Vichyssoise, which are both cold soups. We were not a huge fan of them, as we've had better. The Traditional Paella was very delicious and scrumptious, definitely get this if you come. It is cooked to perfection. Then we had the Octopus with Poor Man's Potato, the octopus was perfect, but the potatoes were not balanced at all and didn't go well with the octopus. It had some super salty parts, some cold and some hot pieces. The Crema Catalana was OK, but not the best I've had in Barcelona. Some of the portions are a bit big, so you might wanna take that into consideration when ordering. The waiter was full of energy, which also came with negatives: he forgot what we ordered and forgot to bring toothpicks when we asked twice. I asked another waitress to bring us some and she did promptly. The staff inside were great, even if we didn't have a reservation, they kept a table for us that was about to be cleared.

Supposed to be kinda “upscale” Catalonian Restaurant, we where missing the “upscale”. Everything took quite a while an required repeatedly reminders, some dishes they forgot completely, starters and main courses got mixed up. Nevertheless, taste and food quality was good. However, price-experience-ratio was average.

Food was very good and service too but my paella with lobster came without the lobsters and when I complained they said the lobster was chopped in the middle (when all the others the tails were on top of the paella and very visible), which was not the case, but I didn't want to make a scene so I just let it be. Great sangria though, one of the best I've tried.

This restaurant must be one of the top 10 in the world for bad service and attitude . They kept us waiting for one hour in the line, eventhough we had an confirmed email reservation. I observed several tables waiting for at least 1 hour to give an order. This was the worst restaurant experience in my life. Avoid ,avoid at all cost .

The food here is not good. The paella was so oily. Only 1 small lobster and dry cut up fish. The octopus with potato was soggy and the sangria was very bitter. The prices definitely do not reflect the quality. Overpriced. Much better luck in other places…. Avoid avoid avoid.

Founded in 1836 as a cafe, then converted into a restaurant in 1929, 7 Portes has a grand setting beneath arches, and exudes an old-world atmosphere with its tiles, mirrors, beams and plaques naming luminaries – such as Orson Welles – who have passed through. ( At my table dined John wayne ,Actor ). Warm welcoming and friendly staff, ambiance is amazing, food is outstanding and paella is out of this world, best paella I ever tried. Highly recommended and definitely will visit again one day

Recommended by many as the best place for incredible paella. Right away I knew it wasn’t going to be a stellar experience as the maiitre d was annoying we arrived for lunch. We were tucked into a booth that Woody Allen & other famous stars had their names upon. The 2 waiters that ran the floor were just as enthusiastic as the front door man. Guessing someone hadn’t shown for work or they just didn’t have enough people to serve- it took hours for our lunch & truly it wasn’t worth it. The paella was good but we’ve made & had better & definitely in a friendly atmosphere.

Decent paella but the service was horrible. We reserved an early-ish spot and even when it wasn’t crowded they were neglectful. We had to go in and get a waiter after waiting a long time to be served. Even the cold starters were late and the sangria came in way way into the dinner. All in all it was an okay experience, would not really recommend it though. Especially price-wise it really was not worth it.

A very classy restaurant with experienced and well organized stuff that makes you feel cozy. The food is traditional to its core with generous portions and dull of taste and nice quality. Must visit if you are in the mood for traditional paella. A nice touch was the piano session that made us feel like we were in a movie

Absolutely loved our experience here! We got tapas and two different paellas and they were incredible! Their recommended paella was the absolute best paella I’ve had in Barcelona! Attentive service, beautiful ambiance, incredible food! Definitely a must visit! The only thing I would change is soften the lighting just a bit, it was a bit bright in the restaurant, a bit darker would create such a stunning ambience making it more romantic.

Historic, well appointed paella restaurant. Service was OK without being overly attentive. Paella dishes were reasonable and sufficiently tasty - we tried four varieties across our party of 6 - but I was not overwhelmed. Meat and fish paella had both in plentiful supply, while starter options were as expected.

(Translated by Google) We went for lunch on Saturday and we won't be back. In the room they put us in, the covid safety regulations were not respected (there was a party that occupied 3 tables and they did nothing but change tables between them). They also made a ruckus that they wouldn't let you even hear the person next to you. We found the food very expensive for the quality it had. We were very unhappy with the site, we did not expect something like that from a restaurant where you pay on average € 50 ppers.

The food is good but our experience wasn’t the best. For an upscale restaurant like this, we were expecting service to be friendlier, more attentive, and faster. It always seemed like servers were prioritizing other tables and annoyed at our requests, even for simple things like asking for the bill.

In a place with thousands of places to eat..... 7 Portes (7 doors) belongs easily to the top 3 places to eat in Barcelona. The environment, attention to detail, food preparation and presentation its at the top. This place is more than a restaurant, its over 180 yrs of family tradition, and culture that you can actually taste and enjoy.

We have ordered the Paella and a spinach Pasta. Both were like 8.5/10,, paella beans was a bit hard for me and salty but overall it was nice. They also have in the mean like a Bread stick appetizer its was really delicious. The Staff are vary helpful but sometimes the service is slow depending on the occupancy

First time leaving a review because I really do not understand what did I do to deserve such terrible subtle hostility. I had a booking for 1pm when they just opened and the restaurant was 90% empty, yet me and my partner was being seated right next to the main entrance, away from everyone else. I do not think I smelled or have dressed inappropriately to deserve such treatment. However, I did notice that we were the only Asians within the restaurant. I had experience working in hospitality as well so I always treat others with manners and respect, knowing how hard it could be serving customers. Therefore I really do not understand what I’ve done wrong to deserve being treated this way, not like I was being rude to them. Just when I thought I was being too sensitive, when more customers filled up the restaurant, the waitress moved a serving table (trolley) from the other side of the door right next to us. When we looked over to the other side, a European couple was sitting at the table where the trolley was next to, once they were seated, the waitress pushed the trolley next to us instead, and piling up plates next to us. I don’t understand why they had to shift the table, perhaps it might have caused the other couple inconvenience, but maybe not to us? Not to mention the waitress kept urging to collect the menu, while I told her at least three times that I wish to continue to read the menu and to order more. The food was fair but overrated in general, I’ve had better paella else where with better price and treatment. The croquettes were overcooked on the outside, burnt on the outside but only warm (not hot) inside. Moreover, it was not fried properly either, with undercooked spots (as shown in the photos). I just wished someone could explain to me what did I do wrongly to deserve such an unfair treatment and silence aggression. I paid for my meal and I treated others with respect, do I not deserve equal treatment?

I have reserved for a table for 2 dinner. When I come I was being seated at a table near the entrance. I saw another table at the corner, so I requested to move inside. Waiters seem to be little bit racist and sarcastic. We ordered Lobster paella, a small seafood platter and 1L of Sangria. Seafood was fresh, Sangria was serve chilled and tasty. Paella was good too but a little bit salty. The environment was poor. I mean the place is spectacular, nicely decorated with piano background music. But the hygiene was really bad. We are surrounded by a dozen of flies thoroughly the whole night. See my photos. We kept annoyed by those insects and they were disgusting. Can’t imagine such a nice place with poor hygiene environment. Not recommended with this pricey food. P.s. and my girlfriend vomited on our way home

Dinner tonight is delightful. Good service. If you are to be seated at the main dinning area at the main place, there’s live piano music. Decent portion of food. I ordered the mixed grilled fish and seafood for two without salt and it’s delicious. The paella is on the salty side. We enjoyed the food very much in general.

Local favorite, nice ambiance! Great great service! Ordered the famous paella and it was so very flavorful, fresh ingredients. A bit on the salty side for us old folks and rice was a bit on the soft side. Delicious regardless! The monk fish was also excellent! Enjoyable lunch!

Are here with the family last night. The bread at the start was excellent. The vegetable starters were not very good, rather quite bland and lacking texture - very mushy. The paella was really good, the best one we’ve had in Barcelona. It was the the only one that had a socarrat. The steak was also really good, it tasted like it was cooked over real wood. The French fries that came with the steak were also very good. The lamb was pretty good too. Well cooked yet not dry. The vibe was really good too. You feel like you time traveled to a better time with great service and live music. Definitely come here in your visit to Barcelona!

Honestly, it was whatever. Compared to all the other amazing places I got to experience in Barcelona this was the least impressive. Seems more of a tourist trap. Didn’t hate it didn’t love it. It’s just, meh. But the one thing I was happy they had were the sea snails! Yum! Would recommend maybe just getting a bottle of wine and a snack here.

Amazing classic place who brings you back to the 1836 when it was established. The atmosphere is traditional and relaxing, thanks to the live piano music. I had an amazing dinner here, with delicious traditional Catalan food and wines. The service was nice and they were really kind with us (they let us in even if we did not had a reservation.. always better to have it by the way..). I really enjoyed that dinner and I will certainly go back.

Falty Towers in Spain ! Excellent food, old school interior like you could still meet Franco. The bill was cheap compared with the excellence of the food. But then the waiters, we laughed our lungs out. They were so friendly but somehow (maybe just then) very unhandy.. I would go back tomorrow. Enjoy

This place is an institution in Barcelona. Several people recommended this place for paella, and it didn't disappoint. Very tasty and easily served two people. We also split an appetizer, and between that and the paella, we were comfortable full. The atmosphere was very pleasant, and we enjoyed the live music. Note that there is a dress code posted on the door (no shorts, I think), but that didn't appear to be consistently enforced. Definitely worth a visit for the paella if you're in Barcelona!

Nice decoration and very friendly / attentive service. This oldest restaurant in Barcelona opens from 1 pm to 1 am everyday. Very tasty and I wish I have the appetite to order and try a few more dishes ! I would have given it a five star if the food was less salty.

We had a lot of different dishes. The grilled vegetables in olive oil were good. The Mussels in Marinara were amazing. The cannelloni although very fattening was great. The Paella was a bit salty, I agree with some of the other reviews on that but it was very good. The atmosphere takes you back to the 1920s when it was opening. The service was great where the waiters literally wait on you. Changing plates and utensils in between dishes and really doing what they can to make sure they are doing a great job. it is for sure a place to experience when in Barcelona. You don't have to get the Paella either, it is all authentic old school recipes.

20min waiting for menu, another 15 to order, in total 2.5 hour for one starter and one plate! Service is awful, lacks of attention to clients. Food came almost cold and taste is not exceptional, just normal. We got menus for desserts, noone came after 15min, we ordered a bill, saying we need to go, noone came after 20min! I do not recommend this place to anyone! If you want to eat nice, go to some smaller place, not in the city center.

Un dels únics restaurants on pots demanar menjar casolà autèntic.

The restaurant wasn't too full but we (and several others who had also booked) on tables the furthest away from the main restaurant. It wasn't a real concern, we were there to dine, not chat with the waiters. It was a little noisy with traffic but that's because it is right alongside the main road. Food was good, when the ordered meal arrived, was a pity as me and my wife were supposed to be dining together but I had finished my starter before hers arrived. The octopus and strangely named 'poor man's potatoes' was perfect, octopus tender and not at all chewy, a delight. We might return but when there are so many good restaurants in Barcelona I don't think we will. It is a shame as the staff were courteous, all except the security guard overlooking everyone that came in, maybe they should dress him like a waiter as he wouldn't look so intimidating. We could hear the pianist but he was too far away for us to enjoy the performance, another disappointment but at least it partially added to the olde world charm and ambience.

WORST SERVICE EVER!! Even though I made a reservation and showed up on time they kept us waiting for 40 MINUTES, without an apology, or offering a seat to relax (especially that I had 3 little children with me) or even an estimate of when we will be seated. Even though they had several empty tables that we could see. Eventually we just gave up and left, not that waitress cared or anything.. she just watched us leave like it didn’t matter to her! I would NEVER come back even if it was the best food in the world!!

Come here for their paella and other rice dishes! I had the Squid Ink Rice and it was the greatest I have ever had. It was packed full of flavours from the sea and the rice had the perfect texture. The Galician Clams were also amazing as it was so flavourful. The clams were fresh and meaty. We had a cold tapas which wasn't impressive. The service is what you'd expect at this price range - attentive and polite. The dining room was beautiful. I would definitely come back to try other rice dishes. Make sure you make a booking otherwise you might need to sit outside.

Overall a good experience at a restaurant with a great history of Catalan cooking. We tried a variety of Catalan dishes and it is close to the city centre. Pros: cannelloni pasta was amazing. The paella was perfect to be expected. Very interesting and well prepared tapas and salads. Cons: service could have been more attentive (we were seated outside). The monkish and scampi dish was a bit one dimensional. Price is expensive for what you get. A good restaurant for the history, traditional Catalan cooking and location.

A restaurant we visit every time we come to Barcelona. It has an extensive menu. Although it is a place mostly visited by tourists, it is also possible to come across cheerful Spanish customers. There is a website for booking and it works. Since it is a large venue, you have the chance to find a seat during non-crowded periods. The pianist at the venue will make the gesture of playing a song for you if you give him the notes. In my opinion, the most important difference compared to new generation restaurants is that it does not put the service quality it provides to its customers in the background because it serves good food and has a proven reputation.

Nice restaurant with a diverse menu and super professional staff. The location is in the city center and there are a lot of bars close by for an after dinner drink. Paella was really good! Price are in line with service. In terms of areas of improvement, I think that the mise en place and overall furniture could be improved, still keeping the Catalan/Spanish style that it is characteristic.

a historic restaurant and perhaps one of the must places to visit when in Barcelona. make sure to have a reservation because it gets filled up quite fast we went there for paella, and had two variants - one with lobster and seafood, and the Manolete paella, as well as some croquettes the paella were delicious, and as good as we had in the city. the best thing frankly was the fact that we could try two different paellas without having to commit for the min. 2 person portions which is the most common thing at most restaurants service was pleasant, and prompt. atmosphere calm and friendly. pricing was quite reasonable for a place that could charge whatever they wanted to!

One of my favorite spots in Barcelona, and top 10 in Spain. The paella de langosta con marisco is great. The croquettes are deliciousness. It is a fancier place to visit, and stuff are more expensive. If you want to take your partner to a nice dinner, this is the place in Barcelona.

Went around lunchtime and didn’t have a reservation but they accommodated us easily🙌. A good variety of well cooked fish dishes and traditional Catalonian paella. This restaurant has a lot of history and was nice to see that we sat where John Wayne had previously eaten at. They do add a tip automatically to the bill which I didn’t realize until later, but the wait staff was charming and we had a good time. A bit pricey, especially if you’re not allowed to share the paella dishes. One portion would have been enough for us to share and it was bit of a shame to waste that food.

Best vegetable Paella I’ve ever had! I love this restaurant, it’s one of those places you just need to visit whilst in Barcelona to get the real Catalan experience! The service is so good, the waiters all have great recommendations, especially with the wine list. The best thing about this restaurant is that you can order a Paella for 1 person (almost every restaurant in Barcelona has Paella minimum 2 people on their menu)

Loved the restaurant's elegant ambiance. We had a glass of sparkling wine and a glass of white vermut, and both were absolutely amazing! It was the best paella we have ever eaten. The ambiance of the restaurant is very impressive. We got a starter and drank wine before paella. You should definitely give it a chance. The price is a little higher than other restaurants in Barcelona, but it is definitely worth it. Also, be sure to make a reservation, otherwise you may not have the chance.
