an archeological site that shows Barcelona in different stages from 1700 onwards, developed in a former market hall, currently a cultural center where various cultural events take place. objects, jewelry and other things that were found following the archeological excavations can be visited for the amount of 3 euros. the entrance to the hall where the archeological site is free, there is information in several languages and it is a pleasant experience if you want to know the history of the city.

I love the way this is being preserved. We didn't go on to the ruins floor as they is booking only, but by being above you can see everything. Lots of multi language information boards to read. The time we happen to walk through they were doing radar/x-ray 🤷🏻‍♂️ work.

Beautiful building. We stumbled into the cultural centre coming through El Born! Beautiful building and wow - when you walk in there is a full ruin below that you can see for free, or pay to access closer! It was incredible and such a historic piece of Barcelona! There was lots of information and history available in Cat/ Esp and Ing. We were very lucky to stumble across a concert while there- 2 amazing singers on guitar and piano and their voices echoed through the ruins and museum. Really incredible! There are also bathrooms / toilets available to the public which are kept very clean!

The building is awesome! Very very beautiful and imposing structure. When you go inside a nice surprise! You can find a huge area of the Roman Empire very well preserved! It’s free to get inside and admire these constructions. There’s a paid area, but i didn’t go inside! This is another must go place in Barcelona

What a neat center! Pristine and clean inside. Obviously a cool buildup around/atop the ruins! Informative and sleek. I’m a big fan. Bathrooms were on point as well. Was there Thursday afternoon and it was nearly empty.

An ancient restored market where the remains of the city can be sold! We went to see this beautiful exhibition in homage to the director, artist, poet and painter Federico Fellini on the occasion of the centenary of the director's birth It can be visited until January 9, 2022.

Old beautiful market building that held a piece of history underneath. The building itself is amazing, if you add in the ruins, you have a must see! Free to visit!

The venue is free to enter and look around from the top level, we did this as we were passing and just popped in. Ended up staying for about an hour. Fascinating.

Kind of museum of the ancient ground settlement. Interesting but not amusing. I think this kind of exhibition is more of a wasting tax payers money, because tourists don't pay for it. The entrance is free. The space is clean and quiet. Maybe for an history enthusiasts it is more exciting. You can stop here coming along, but don't worry if you miss the place.

Amazing Cultural Center on top of an excavation site of Barcelona in 1700. Worth a visit for the historical importance and excavation, very well maintained site. Entry is free but ticket to visit museum & for guided tours. Old town was well connected with canals from rivers in 1700.

What an interesting cultural centre they had these amazing costumes made up and I was drawn in and the excavation of the lower floors showing off the stonework was amazing. The costumes were amazing colourful and so detailed. The free exhibition was great loved all the historical finds which made me want to slowly look at everything. I really enjoyed looking at all the exhibits. Such a nice find.

Awesome place. The foundation has old excavations of the old market. And there are always lots of events held there. When i was it was about Catalan history and oppression during 1700-1800. Must visit and outside lots of bars to choose from to get a drink. Enjoy.

Just stumbled upon this place and so glad we decided to do the tour - 90 minutes of history and a deep dive into Barcelona’s social and political history. Totally worth the entrance fee and more. If you have time, definitely do the tour - our tour guide was super knowledgeable

Beautiful Old iron food market (supposedly was going to be) till the ruins below were found again. They built this on top with beautiful views of what the market did look like from back in the day. Free entrance (to view) though there are guided tours available to go downstairs and know more about it. Definitely worth a visit or even a stroll around while in the area.

Good place to visit and see what Barcelona was like before the Romans changed it to what we see today. Download the 3D app which shows you the wondrous place in full colour but ensure you aren't just flying through as it firstly takes time to download and secondly once engrossed you'll be there all day. Some magnificent storeys to be found here, very interesting!

(Translated by Google) A perfect place to learn about the history of Barcelona in the 1700s. The archaeological remains are in good condition and the explanatory videos help you get an idea of what the city was like back then. There are guided tours where they tell you interesting stories. We attended a black chronicle and discovered situations and crimes from centuries ago. The guide explained everything very well despite the rush, since the visit is only half an hour. The exhibition halls usually have interesting things, the biography of El Perich is highly recommended. (Original) Un lugar perfecto para conocer la historia de la Barcelona del 1700. This ended up being one of my favorite tourist attractions, and I just happened to walk in on a whim. I came back twice after finding it, once to spend more time and the other to join a tour. The old Born market, a cast iron and glass masterpiece, was being excavated only to reveal ruins from the 17-18th centuries. They offer tours where you can walk through the ruins once a week in English, Spanish and Catalan.

  • 4/5 Mike H. 2 years ago on Google

Good display and history of 1700s life here. Good digs with explanatory signage. Wasn't offered a guide but stumbled into that. This did allow a trip down into the ruins themselves. Worth a couple hours to visit!

Great spot to stumble upon when we were walking around! To see the ruins is free. This is something very unique about the city that you'd totally miss if you didn't know about it! We spent a good hour walking through, looking, and reading about the history. There is also a clean bathroom if you are out and about and need one!

Very significant place to better understand the past memory of Barcelona. There are two tours one at 5pm in Spanish and another at 4:30 pm in English . Took the 5pm conducted by an extraordinary historian. He has the historical knowledge and the experience in Barcelona. He has the ability of communicating 2000 years briefly and in detail. I do strongly recommend the tour.

  • 5/5 Larry N. 2 years ago on Google
We are staying nearby, and have walked by numerous times….finally popped in and did the English 4pm tour. So worth it!! We walked around the balcony and read all the display signs, so when we did the tour, it tied it all together. A great Barcelona history lesson. Makes the street we are staying on even more interesting than before.

Lots of amazing history! Some parts of this site were operational all the way up until 1910.

A cool museum like space for a peak into Spanish history. This reminded me of Finding Treasures of Rome, discovering the lifestyle and how Spaniards’ daily life was like back then

It gave us literally the history of Catalan and my kids truly enjoyed the place and were amazed how that portion of the city was preserved.

Very interesting to see. It is free, if you want a tour on the site itself, you need to book the tour and pay. If you walk by, definitely take a look!

Now that's history, salute to the homeowners had to destroy their own home during the secession war 1713. Oh, the pictures are not all related to that ;-)

Old iron food market built over ancient ruins of part of early medieval Barcelona and thankfully preserved. It's very interesting and free to the main hall. Get off the R2 train at Estacio Francia and walk straight ahead, can't miss it.

Although I could not successfully download the audio guide and no staff were available to help, the whole site is well laid out with informative descriptions. The key message is that citizens can succeed in keeping their architectural heritage.

Great history found at this market. They found an ancient roman city ruins below and now preserve it as an archaeological site. To enter is free and there are a few exhitibitions that are free. But go visit the exhibit 1500 if you can very informative but it has a cost.

Very interesting place to learn about the local history. It is for free and the guided tour is only about 4€. You need at least 1 hour to digest all the information.

Interesting combo archeology and history museum - you can read about the complicated history of this section of Barcelona while looking down on an extensive excavated section of the old town

This is truly a magnificent place to visit and see. It's a historical site of Barcelona and really shows how the city was built in the early days before the war on Barcelona. If you are interested in history this is a very good place to visit. Enjoy your day there.... give it some time because there's a lot to see.

Interesting free “museum” about the history of Catalonia. Free public toilet inside in the East corner.

Very well restored and a nice time travel. You can see a lot of interesting details from above and a lot of plaques show the historical context and talk about what some of the buildings were or some details of life back then. Only 4 stars because I would have wished there were even more information and illustrations about mundane life and what each building was. Bringing the ruins more to life. And at the time there was an art exhibition all around the walkway that was a bit weird and very unrelated. But it's free entry and very interesting if you're into history so don't miss out if you are nearby.

A interesting place to visit, it explains the history of the site and the surrounding area. There is an exhibit that showcases the things that they excavated from the site but you will need money to view it. There is also a guided tour that allows you to enter the site itself, that will also cost you a few Euros.
