The staff is super lovely and funny, the beds super comfortable and housekeeping does an amazing job! Did not use any of the facilities. Went to the Sky Bar once and felt overwhelmed, no member of staff even looked me in the eyes or said Hi when I walked through - so I left... Vegan options would be appreciated on the room service menu. The rooms could receive a refurbishment because they look outdated but overall a good experience. Juaquin and Roberto at the desk were great!

This was our fourth stay at the Axel and it was a wonderful experience once again. Jorge at the reception desk was extremely helpful, courteous, and polished. Also, Ramiro at reception was pivotal in ensuring a smooth and quick checkout, and had a taxi waiting for us. And without doubt, Serge is always a welcome sight as the superlative host of the restaurant at breakfast each morning!

The room and location were great especially considering the rate I paid. I checked in on October 9 in the afternoon for 1 night and the front line staff was friendly and helpful so my following complaint was not directed at him. I checked out on the morning of October 10. I received a note at the bottom of my door letting me know that the front desk had important message for me, I enquired about this when I tried to check out. The staff that helped me became hostile when I asked for confirmation of his response. I believed there were some communication issues due to language so I asked a few more questions to double check if I understood him correctly. He became impatient and kind of hostile towards me and even raised his voice. Please note that it was unfortunate that this was the last impression Barcelona and Spain had on me before I returned home to Canada. As people who work in the hospitality sector, I believe they represent their city and country, or at least the hotel, and should always treat guests with courtesy and warmth. I understand that Europeans and North Americans have different expectations for customer service but it was clear that this staff did not treat me with the kind of attitude that is required for by his role. Your hotel advertises that it is a safe safe for LGBT members and that it is inclusive for all. As an Asian person in that community, we already face enough discrimination from the predominantly white dominant LGBT community in the West. Your brochures and advertisements have most included muscular images of white gay men. This plus the treatment I received by the staff during check out has made me to wonder if your hotel really live up to your slogans of a welcoming space for all, or should undesired member of the LGBT community such as one who does not fit your hotel’s image of what is considered attractive need not apply? I hope the management of the hotel should train this staff and all staff in terms of cultural sensitivity and treating guests with the respect and courtesy that we deserve.

Good location. There was a queue at reception when I arrived. There was only 1 person on the reception desk and for such a big hotel this is inadequate at busy check-in times. The receptionist was doing his best to process people people and working efficiently but he was overworked by the hotel. The pounding music in reception added to the stress - i know the intention was to be trendy but its just the wrong location for that music and it does makes the long check-in experience too stressful. Once i got to the front of the quiet the receptionist was super friendly, charming and helpful. Terrace bar was excellent although I didn’t need to be a guest to access it so no real added guest benefit. Sunbathing area was adequate although pool is positioned in a corner and hard to get past peoples sunbeds, also too small to swim in really. Room was clean but felt very claustrophobic and only had a small window overlooking another building. Bathroom was good although shower had poor water pressure. Price point is way too expensive for this standard of room in my opinion. Plus sides to the hotel are the great location and friendly staff but the negatives out-way the positives i’m afraid.

Great location and amenities. Loved the well equipped gym and spa which allowed to get some great workouts in while it rained in Barcelona and just to detox overall. Only downfall is that it doesn't open until 10am. Guest services were amazing and appreciated their friendly staff.

Front desk was welcoming, friendly and efficient. The room was clean and comfortable. The pool bar staff were also very friendly even though it was very hot. They kept on smiling. Since my last visit the rooftop bar scene has changed and I admit it's not as charming as before with the canopy day beds, etc. I'm sure the bar scene below makes more revenue and it was enjoyable too so I understand that as a businessman. The breakfast crew were on top of their game and were attentive and quick with coffee refills.

This is a good hotel in a great location to be within walking or a short trip by public transport/cab to all the most popular places in Barcelona. The rooms are ok, maybe looking a little dated now, bit kept very clean and have comfortable beds. The air conditioning in my room stopped working in the middle of my stay, so highlighted this to reception - nothing was done so then complained as it was too hot to sleep. The reception staff offered a change of room next door thankfully, but not ideal to have to do this late at night - then get a call at 2am as they needed the original room keys back (I thought as it was so late and I'd had to move all my possessions, I'd take them down first thing...so not an ideal situation, I know they have processes to follow but though they could have cut me some slack here). The pool and bar areas on the top floors are good, plenty of space and I could always get a sunbed when I wanted one and fresh towels are available at the bar. The bar has a decent range of drinks and friendly service. The lifts to any floor seem to take forever, so could really do with highlighting where the stairs are as an alternative. The hotel has a good gym apparently...I didn't use it as anyone who uses a gym on holiday should be sent straight home :)

Check-in staff were lovely and very helpful. Room was well appointed, spacious and clean. Only used the bar as a shared facility, but again it was very nice and the staff friendly. The 3 things that let me down were 1) arriving by car, no apparent way to drop off bags and get instructions as to where to park, I found a garage around the corner, but only by chance; 2) the room was overly fragrant with something, I needed to open the window for a good hour to air out the sickly sweet smell, 3) the fact that there is no loyalty programme or acknowledgement that I have stayed in Axel properties 3 times this year alone, you are really missing a trick on loyalty here.

I was amazed by seeing such service at these affordable prices. I really appreciate the services provided by the staff they were so conscious about my preferences in food and what facilities needed the most.they provided it very early and timely. The room was also very good ,nice interior to compliment architects. The room has a very good fragnance and cleaned. It was my visit to Barcelona and it was worth staying at Axel Hotel

The hotel is good and the bar has a nice view and is a lot of fun. Just ask not to be put in one of the improvised rooms they have in a patio on the first floor. They are not very comfortable and nice.

Great hotel. Good standard. The reception team are super helpful with advice and Bel was really friendly when I checked out. The sky bar was better than all the other bars around. I loved the drag queen show! Thanks hotel Axel and all the team.

A big thank you to the Axel Hotel Team! Due to a flight cancellation my girlfriend and I spontaneously booked the hotel. Roberto welcomed us middle in the night and we instantly felt home! The room was very spacious and comfy, clean and with a big bathroom area. The breakfast was good and the staff was outstanding! Would definitely come back!

I stayed here for three nights in Barcelona at a friends recommendation. A lot of people had said it was really good so I was excited. Location If you have come to Barcelona to party with the gays, you’re in a good spot. All the gay bars are very close!! You can stumble home every night like I did. At the moment there are major roadworks happening right out the front of the hotel. I didn’t really hear it and I had a street facing room on level 6. But it’s just something to be aware of even if it’s outside Axel’s control. Didn’t really affect my stay. Hotel The lobby is pretty cool. The lifts are a bit dodgy. The decor is a little tired and could do with some refreshing, especially in the hallways which also smell a bit. The upstairs bar was fun but the area for the drag show was a bit odd. Drinks are a bit more expensive than other bars surrounding the hotel. Service The reception was friendly and checking in was easy. I had a problem with checking in online because they had me down as two guests and I couldn’t delete the second one, I had to enter my details twice. I requested an iron and just had to go down to reception to get it. Room I was disappointed in the room. It felt dated, fairly small and not a lot of storage to put clothes. I was quite surprised that drinking water was not complimentary given the quality of the tapwater. Some of the power plugs didn’t work which was very frustrating. The shower was lovely, one time I did have some issues with water pressure. Price There are probably better options out there for the same price. I booked a premium room so was a bit surprised at the quality of my room. I doublechecked online, the photos they are using are from their sister hotel down the road, which is newer. So their advertising is a bit false. Summary Overall, it was an average hotel in a good location. I enjoyed my stay, but if I came back to Barcelona, I would stay somewhere else that’s more modern for the same price.

Daniel at reception was excellent and we really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Facilities were good, location excellent, breakfast good and staff were all very helpful Room was very clean and well maintained Only issue was being on level 7, we had the nightclub music very loud from Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Also could hear people standing around near the elevators when coming or going and was very loud. Maybe the door that is near the passage way to the 3 rooms should be allowed to be closed

Such a nice hotel with great amenities. Would highly recommend to stay here as it’s close to all the gays bars. What made it even better was the service from Eric was amazing, he’s super charming and handsome. I would go back to just see him again.

Recently visited Axel Hotel with friends and must say there top class service will make you keep going back to them. The roof top was my favorite. Thanks to the hotel staffs we were able to ensure a comfortable stay and have fun. The food there is another thing you absolutely can't miss. Will definitely make sure to come back .

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Italianni's, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The restaurant exceeded my expectations in every way, and I can confidently give it a five-star rating. First and foremost, the ambiance was warm, inviting, and authentically Italian. The interior decor created a cozy and romantic atmosphere, perfect for a memorable evening. The soft lighting and rustic furnishings added to the overall charm of the place.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Axel Hotel Barcelona, and I must say that my experience exceeded all expectations. From the moment I stepped foot into the hotel, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism by the friendly staff. Here's why I believe Axel Hotel deserves a glowing five-star rating: Impeccable Service: The staff at Axel Hotel Barcelona truly went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was perfect. They were attentive, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist with any request or inquiry. Whether it was providing recommendations for local attractions or arranging transportation, their level of service was outstanding.

Great experience at the Axel Hotel! Reception staff were all super friendly and willing to help. The hotel's location is convenient to many of the city's sights, many within a reasonable walking distance. There were plenty of food options nearby and a supermarket right across the street. Looking forward to another stay in the future!

It has excellent service. The staff are friendly and helpful, and they go out of their way to make sure guests have a great stay. The hotel is also very clean and well-maintained. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Barcelona.

This was my first time staying at this hotel and I totally loveeeeedd it!!!! Every single detail they had in the room and the welcoming pack with a nice cava glass on the house. We had a problem with our room because some weird smell was coming out from the pipes. The moment we reported it to the reception, they were super sweet and change us to another room. Definitely will repeat the experience in this hotel. Love it so much!!! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

Room was pretty, but badly designed. The bathroom had no towel rack or hooks to hang towels. There was no luggage rack in the room. It felt like the designer had never spent a night in a hotel. The room was designed to look good in a magazine, but not for a comfortable stay. Many basic details were annoying. For example, the bathroom had a huge sink (which was pretty), but no space to put out your toiletries. The open bathroom concept seems cool and provocative, but it's just not comfortable. My boyfriend and I are close and intimate, and used to being naked together, but everyone wants a few moments of privacy such as when we're showering. I understand that an old, urban building has limited space, and I understand that the small room requires some compromises, but that doesn't excuse design choices that ignore basic functionality.

We had a really nice stay at the Axel Barcelona. Highlights included: - free room upgrade on arrival (because we had stayed at the the Axel TWO before) - amazing location in the heart of the Gayxample and in walking distance of everything you need - very quiet room on the inner courtyard. Couldn’t hear any other guests. - very clean - very friendly reception and bar staff Some things I noticed that could improve: - certain areas are probably in need of redecorating. The floor and walls of the room showed quite a few scuffs and signs of wear, and the pool area is missing a few tiles. The lobby and bar areas are much more up to date, so I think this is probably work in progress. - I was a bit disappointed by the hotel breakfast, which we paid extra for. We arrived around half an hour before the advertised finish but the staff seemed keen to get home. No one came to us to take a coffee order or replace missing cutlery, and they started to clear away the buffet before the finish time and without any warning, so we felt a little rushed and unwelcome. I seem to remember the Axel TWO having a much nicer selection and atmosphere. - a little warning: the drinks in the sky bar are lovely but essentially twice the price of any of the bars nearby. It’s a hotel bar so that isn’t unusual, but it’s worth bearing in mind.

Excellent hotel, superior room was cute, clean and spacious, delicious breakfast. But best of all was the massage at the spa. Super friendly, very professional and relaxing. Overall the hotel and its team were fantastic.

Amazing experience! The hotel located perfectly in Barcelona so we had no use of taxis during our vacation. The hotel staff was lovely, nice, helpful. Our room was BIG and had every equipment we needed. The hotel has an amazing rooftop bar and they have amazing bartenders who knows how to make an amazing cocktails. Hotel has a very big GYM compared to other hotels and a nice SPA. The place is gay friendly. I would go back there.

Fantastic location in the middle of the gay neighborhood. Hotel has a really nice rooftop bar. There is also a small pool and jacuzzi there. The staff is nice. The rooms are averagely good. Breakfast is a bit basic. Overall recommend it!

Great location and friendly, helpful staff. I have restricted mobility and staff went out of their way to help me avoid using stairs. The pool is beautiful and the bar on level 7 had a nice terrace with views of the surrounding buildings. The guest rooms were stylish and ultra comfortable.

Great hotel, situated in Gaixample. It has good connections to the major landmarks, and the neighbourhood is great as well. It is right next to several well known Tapas bars. Staff were friendly, kind and polite. Breakfast was tasty and helps you save around 50€ per day, which is great! Would definitely recommend.

Room was nice and big, however bed was hard as a plank. When I asked for a mattress topper to make it softer. Reception looked as though I was asking for the moon on a stick. Slept terribly for 5 nights. Breakfast is decent could use a bit more variety. Gym was good for a hotel gym

  • 2/5 Enda M. 2 years ago on Google
Good location and comfortable bed. If you are looking to use the spa facilities at the “Axel Hotel Barcelona & Urban Spa” you’ll be charged €15 per hour. This was not outlined during the online booking process and was not explained during the check-in process. The spa is open for 8 hrs per day and at a cost of €240 for the weekend (two days), it’s excessive. There are no clean towels, no soap and half of the jets in the pool do not work. If I had known that the spa wasn’t included, I would not have booked this hotel - very very disappointed.

I had a great stay. It was a last minute trip for my birthday and the reception a gentlemen called Daniel noticed it and offered us a premium Room so that I can enjoy my stay even better. Additionally I got free drinks at their bar and a small gift together with a happy birthday letter. I could not be happier with the hotel and specially with Daniel who seemed super friendly, professional and positive at all times.

Lovely hotel.... great bright and airy room decorated very nicely with a balcony overlooking the street. superb powerful shower in modern bathroom A roof bar, pool and jacuzzi plenty of sunbeds and towels provided overall a great stay only negative was the water level dropped in the jacuzzi over three days and wasn't topped up didn't eat in the restaurant as I didn't like the look of the menu

I enjoyed my stay despite a tough work week and luggage that never arrived from a terrible journey. The front desk associates really demonstrated the true meaning of hospitality. They took it upon themselves to try and find a real person at Iberia to talk to to try and track down my luggage and spent a big part of their morning doing so. Even though it didn't find me the luggage in the end it was very very appreciated and will ensure I stay at Axel again. The facilities are great, including one of the best hotel gyms I've seen, but the rooms, reception and hallways need a updating.

  • 5/5 Mark C. 1 year ago on Google
The staff and rooms here were great. I can’t recall his name, but our main guy every morning/afternoon there was so incredibly helpful at the front desk. From holding our luggage to getting us early room check in’s and even room extensions, he always seemed to work his magic. Everyone was friendly, upstairs bar and pool area were very nice and the room views were wonderful. Super walkable to everything and cabs were easy to get. Would absolutely recommend and stay again!

I had a great stay in hotel axel. Very clean and stylish. The stuff is very helpful and friendly. Especially bell, the receptionist. Such a sweet and friendly dude. He even managed to get me a black tea at 4 clock in the morning. I will definitely come back again! Thank you

The hotel is in a great position, is well maintained and the staff friendly. The breakfast was amazing. The best buffet I have come across in the Axel hotel chains that I have stayed in. No hesitation in making an oat milk flat white. The room was comfy and spacious and, for once, toiletries were replensihed daily.

  • 4/5 Ron A. 2 years ago on Google
The hotel is OK. It is rated as 4 stars but I think it is 3 1/2 stars. The rooms are small and the rooms facing the courtyard do not have much sunlight. The mattress could be more comfortable. The work desk could be larger. There is no proper coffee machine in the room either.

I had a wonderful stay at the Axel. The staff was professional and friendly. I was fortunate to get upgraded to one of the rooms with the balconies. Just beautiful. Great location in the heart of the city. I was only here for one night and already had a dinner date so I was unable to get to the rooftop. I'll have to return and take advantage.

It took 15 years for me to get back to Barcelona and under Axel's roof. Unlike many other places, Barcelona and this hotel have not lost any of their charms. The Axel in its room and ensuite bathrooms have been conceived of with a care to details - rainshowers, mirrors, mini bars, in very livable beige on beige on beige colors. Hotel staff couldn't be nicer. This hotel is a must for visitors to this fair city. Reasonably priced, "adults only", which simply means - no children. YES!

The worse experience ever, the receptionist was rude and cancelled my booking while I was still there and then requested for me to leave in the middle of the night with the force of the police all because of a misunderstanding. Now I'm being refused a refund after I was never even hosted for the duration of my stay and I had to find another hotel which cost me another 230 GBP to be hosted for my duration in Barcelona. I tried to escalate this further with the manager at the property but they do not seem to care. The receptionist marked me as a now show, then changed and said I was refused to be hosted for breaking house rules. This from the receptionist was a way to excuse his outrageous behaviour towards a paying customer. I've spoken with booking.com and they cannot do anything, I've asked the booking.com agent to get the manager to contact me and until now I have not heard anything. I now have to get matter sorted with my credit card provider to get this payment reverted because Axel hotel did not host me and refused to refund me. I will be speaking about this further until matters are solved to my satisfaction because I'm left unhappy with the treatment I received for my first stay at the Axel hotel.

From start to finish the Axel exceeded expectations. We were quite happy with it. They really understand how to make travelers feel and home and truly there is not a brand of hotels out there with better staff. As someone who travels for a living, I will always prioritize staying in an Axel whenever possible. Very happy with them as a brand overall. Don't miss the chance to soak up their property.

The hotel is nicely located, and very central. You will be greeted very friendly by all the front office staff. They were very helpful with all of my questions. The rooms are basically very nice and clean. For a premium room I was expecting a lot more to be honest. Here are some points I’d like to submit regarding the room: - mini bar was not free of charge - no bath robes and slippers in the room - no welcome amenities (fruits, chocolates …) - cheap toiletries supplies - cheap coffee brand, no coffee maker just a kettle Regarding the facilities and services: - spa use 15€/hour?! Not listed on the web page. At least I didn’t see it! Should be free in any case. - roof top pool falling apart on the edges, broken sun umbrellas, broken sun chairs, - staff constantly on their phones, not attentive - breakfast staff not attentive, I wasn’t greeted in a welcoming way. All of them not very friendly, not efficient at all, long waiting time for coffee, had to get up and ask for it at the bar. Asked for some crispy bacon. After my request the cook came out to see who ordered, and the waiter was finger pointing on me, then I was told it’s not possible. Which was probably a lie. Over all I must say that I enjoyed my stay very much, but have to say the reputation of the hotel is overrated in my eyes. The service is nice, but there ist quite some improvement possible to make the guest experience even better.

The staff were not friendly or helpful, there were several incidents in the hotel that didn’t involve myself directly but put me off because of the clients that were able to gain access to the hotel. Stuff happens I get that, but there were too many little things and when someone in our group had a bag with a laptop and personal items stolen right from underneath him in a part of the hotel that was more secure and secluded that was it. Then it was a slap in the face when the response to this was ‘it happens all the time” and they wouldn’t file a report. Aside from those things the hotel is nicely located to a lot of great bars, restaurants, and shopping. Plus easy to get to all the usual touristy places to visit as well with very quick taxi service or transit rides.

Our stay was very good. We arrived hours before the check-in time but the hotel was able to accommodate us (with extra charge). Reception was very friendly. It’s also really nice that we got to stay at a gay hotel so we felt safe. The hotel is close to a lot of cafes, bars, and restaurants. We paid extra for the premium superior room with the colorful glazed balcony, which I thought was worth it. In between our itinerary, it was nice to relax on the balcony with a glass of wine and look out to the street.

Top Service! Me and my girlfriend spent 3 days in the hotel. The receptionists were so kindly and helpful. They help me to buy a couple of thing for my girlfriend birthday's. Daniel was so kindly leaving a nice present for her birthday in the room. So i recommend this hotel to everyone and we will be back for sure.

Located in the heart of the gay neighbourhood… this hotel is a Gem ! Surrounded by some of the most fun gay bars and drinking spots in Barcelona , you are only a stone’s throw away from a great time. Within the hotel also lies a plethora of amenities: great breakfast, rooftop pool and bar, large gym, rooms with balconies, and more. We found the bed and bedding very comfortable, good water pressure in the shower, several places to store clothes within the room, etc. The staff was FIVE STAR remembering our names, super friendly, and well informed of the surrounding area.

Welcoming staff as always, received an upgrade (thank you), lovely room, and I always love the vibe in this hotel. We booked a massage and spa this time. The massage was good to very good, but I feel the spa area should be refreshed and made somehow a bit nicer.
