The hotel delivers everything you'd expect it to. The location is excellent and if you don't mind walking, you will not need to use public transportation at all. The interior is very nice (lobby is outstanding) and I strongly recommend the Superior room (the one on the front, Rambla side). Bathrooms are fitted with bathtubs and quite spacious. The staff is exceptionally helpful and accomodating. Breakfast offered a nice selection of food (no live cooking though). SPA area is a nice touch. Overall very much recommend. A few tips to fellow visitors (does not affect my overall positive review, but something to keep in mind): 1. The selection/quality of toilettries is rather limited. Better to bring your own, especially that I found the pool water to be quite irritating to the skin and hair (chlorine). 2. The rooftop pool is not really wheelchair accessible (in theory it is, but the lift was blocked by rubbish bins and didn't look like it was working). Interior pool is accessible (access is a bit fussy - there's a lift in the gym - but it works). 3. We visited in October - very much recommend it. I don't know how things look in the high season. 4. Swimming pool/saunas are nice and welcoming, but guests are hardly encouraged to use treatments. There's no SPA menu in the room and we never saw anyone at the SPA reception. If you would like to book something (prices are on the higher end), I would recommend to arrange it upfront and be proactive about it.

This hotel is absolutely great! Our room is quite comfortable and always clean when we return from a day of sightseeing. The employees at the front desk are ALL pleasant, polite, helpful and very professional. Be sure to visit the rooftop terrace. It has great views, wonderful drinks and a nice menu both for snacks and a lite meal. But, again, it's the employees who enhance the experience. They are ALL so very friendly and accommodating. If you are looking for a hotel in Barcelona, look no further than Hotel 1898. You will have a MOST enjoyable stay.

The service at this hotel is amazing. They are warm, hospitable, and so helpful. After a long flight from Utah to Barcelona, upon arriving at the hotel, I realized I had accidentally booked our room for a month later than our actual arrival date. I had booked a very special suite, the Colonial suite with our own pool on the balcony. It wasn't available, but they did everything to get us a room so we could get some sleep that night. And the next day, they moved us into the Colonial suite and had champagne and fruit for us in the suite! Gabriella and Roche were particularly kind and lovely. We are so grateful for the service they provided. The hotel is in the most perfect location- you can't do better. As far as I can say about the room, if you can spring for the Colonial Suite, you will not be disappointed. My husband and I had a blast.

Had an absolutely fantastic stay at hotel 1898 for my husband's 40th birthday. Arrival and check in was quick and smooth, hotel room very very clean with toiletries for us, the breakfast was delicious with so much choice and the staff were all amazingly polite and friendly. The breakfast team hosted by Ana were incredible, they sang happy birthday to my husband and presented him with a mini cake and a personalised message. We also had a bottle of fizz in our room when we returned that evening. The location for seeing Barcelona is perfect, we used the metro from the airport which was super easy, the hotel is then walking distance from all the main areas. I can not recommend enough, it is a fantastic hotel with incredible staff! Thank you to all the staff for such a memorable stay.

This place is amazing! Stayed here for my wife's birthday weekend and these fine people offered us a complimentary bottle of champagne with a lovely note. We didn't tell anybody about her birthday but they observed this from our id upon check-in. House keeping and staff are incredible.

This hotel has everything you're looking for when spending a few days in Barcelona. The building is beautiful from the inside and the outside and is very centrally located on La Rambla. The staff are friendly and very willing to help with any request. The bar has a nice atmosphere. The spa is very cozy, a perfect spot to end the day when you're tired from walking. Bathrobes and slippers are complementary. Breakfast is abundant. The rooms are clean and up to date. The bathroom is luxurious. I highly recommend this gem.

Amazing hidden bar, with only 1 elevator that takes you to the roof top where you get an amazing view whilst having a cold beverage in your hand. Highly recommend visiting for an escape from the hustle and bustle

This was a perfect choice for the first part of our honeymoon. The location is great, right on La Rambla and very easy to navigate from. The restaurant was excellent, the spa was amazing (if you're reading this... Go there and book a couples massage, they have some very talented masseuses). We had a colonial suite and it was also perfect - with a lovely rooftop deck all to ourselves. The service was very good, they accommodated us arriving extra early and stowed our luggage and gave lunch recommendations. Whenever we were coming and going, reception would check in to see if they could do anything to make our stay better. The rooftop deck is a lovely little oasis of peace in a busy area. The only thing about the whole stay I would have changed would be to have the rooftop bar open while we were visiting.

Amazing staff, incredible facilities, super comfy bed. The location is amazing and the view from the roof bar/lounge area is breathtaking. I have genuinely not stayed in a better hotel than this before. 10/10 would do again.

Customer service was the highlight for me. The reception team thought out of the box when I made a request about celebrating my mom’s birthday on our stay. Spa is inclusive for hotel guests so we got to enjoy sauna, steam and whirlpool, as well as gym & rooftop pool. The rooftop restaurant is beautiful with great views and breakfast was quality. Plenty of comfortable lobby seating to wait, lounge and even work in. Taxi stand is right at the entrance. Everything was just so convenient and comfy! There IS noise from the restaurants behind the hotel though which is nothing the hotel can do, so prepare ear plugs if you need silence to sleep. Will definitely stay again!

I was blown away with the quality and service at Hotel 1898. The staff were friendly and helpful, and our stay was so great! We were traveling for our honeymoon and our room was amazing. We had a balcony overlooking a bustling street in Barcelona and got a bucket of Champagne and a dessert with a really nice message from the staff! The rooftop pool and bar are incredible, with views of all of Barcelona. I also loved that our room had the ability to play music from a hotel station, it really set the mood! This is by far the best hotel experience I've ever had. We didn't even get to try the spa but that looked awesome as well. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Barcelona and would love to stay again!

The staff at this hotel take your experience seriously and they want it to be memorable in the best way. The breakfast buffet is robust and the spa offers the ultimate relaxing experience. Their rooms are spacious and the bartenders at the bar are so nice. Get a mojito at the bar! 😍 I loved it here and I will be back.

Top, top, top. First of all, the terrace. Best part of the hotel. Very relaxed and clean, with decent food and good service. The hotel itself was beautiful inside. Rooms were clean and well equipped. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful stay in this hotel for 5 nights. We were upgraded and given one of the best rooms, but despite being influenced by that, I would rate the hotel very high. First, its location - right on the La Ramblas and hence right in the thick of activity. Because of its location, it was also extremely safe.The restaurant here has relatively limited choice, but then there are several restaurants serving cuisines from all over the globe in the immediate vicinity. The breakfast served in the morning was quite generous and had excellent options.It was also very easy to get taxi for my early morning airport drive, as the taxi stand is just next to the hotel. There is also a provision of free evening tea, - a very welcome gesture, though I would suggest addition of some vegetarian sandwiches too. Staff was quite courteous and efficient..

Hands down one of the best hotels I’ve stayed. Central location but quiet and felt like being outside the City each time you walk through the door. Enjoyed the roof top pool after long walking days. The spa is unbelievable, including sauna. Staff very helpful. This is a quality hotel with people that care.

We stayed here for our honeymoon in Barcelona. From the moment we arrived it felt special. The indoor pool, you just make an appointment, it’s wonderful. The staff is welcoming and my husband and I had an amazing couples massage! Our room had such a deep tub it fit the two of us for a nice relaxing bath.

Great location, amazing SPA, very comfortable beds and rooms in general. The one thing I'd point out is that breakfast staff apparently didn't know what a poached egg was when I asked for it - despite it being on the menu on every single table - and some were very loud and rude. I'd say breakfast staff need some training.

Lovely hotel in a great location. Spotlessly clean and excellent staff Personally I think its overpriced but the reason I've not given it 5 stars is the fact the rooftop bar and pool is currently closed as is the steam room. I understand planned maintenance is necessary at times but we should have been informed of this when we booked which was only a few days before we arrived so the hotel knew about these issues

Our first visit to Barcelona and are so glad we chose H 1898 for our 3 night stay. The staff was attentive, the room was spacious and wonderfully clean and appointed well. The public spaces including the breakfast area and lobby were open and well lit. The proximity to La Rambla was convenient for our sightseeing trips. We would stay here again.

Really lovely hotel and location. Clean rooms. Good breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay. The spa was good - we booked a couple's massage which my husband enjoyed, me not so much...I've had better massages. Facial was great though!

Just stayed here for a long weekend. We had a great time in Barcelona and didnt use the hotel much although still a great place to stay. We had room only as we enjoyed getting up and exploring the city from morning till night. The room was great, very quiet, large enough, lovely bathroom with Shower. We used the pool as well, although i found it a little cold for November, but that might be just me. Not giving it 5 stars as the Steam room was out of action so only had the pool and Sauna, and the rooftop was out of action as well. I know these things happen but 1 star off as we would loved to have used these. The location is amazing, its quiet but still in the heart of the city. And it is also very clean. Would stay here again if i came back to the city.

Spent 4 nights in this beautiful historic hotel. Perfect location in walking distance to the sea side, major attractions and the best food. The spa was top teir and relaxing. Truly a standout. Breakfast had everything a person could want and a great way to start the day. Rooms were spacious, quite, well decorated and the balcony we selected was an added bonus. Staff were professional and very helpful with directions and suggestions. If your going to Barcelona this is the place to stay.

The hotel is quite okay, especially if you're just passing through. The room wasn't particularly impressive, but it serves its purpose for a brief stay. However, I must commend the friendly staff, particularly the waiters/waitresses. They were extremely accommodating, which made the stay more pleasant. The food was decent, and the sauna area provided an adequate relaxation space. Overall, it's a decent stopover option despite the average room quality

Fantastic hotel. Very safe. Great location. Gorgeous spa!!! We slept very well! Rooms are a little bit loud near the elevator and because of the older building set up, but we found it to be completely fine and slept like rocks! We loved our stay there!

The overwhelming amount of positive reviews unfortunately don't reflect our experience at Hotel 1898. The hotel lobby and spa are absolutely wonderful and by far the highlights here but unfortunately everything else was quite shabby for such an expensive stay. Our experience began with multiple emails asking us to check in before our arrival but even after checking in online these emails continued to arrive. Upon arrival we had to repeat the process rendering the online check in a complete waste of time Our room had electrical wires with exposed ends hanging down from behind the TV which we discovered while trying to locate the soucep of a loud hum which was emitting from the TV for the entire duration of our stay. The natural light to the room was incredibly limited and you could only see the sky from our window through a dirty exterior skylight. Even with interior lights turned up we struggled to get enough light into the room for my partner to apply her makeup The bathroom in particular was showing signs of it's age. The shower tap cover hung loose and the shower took minutes to warm up. The corners of the room were also black and generally in need of a refresh. Overall, the hotel fell short of our expectations. Despite the lovely staff and great spa.

Amazing stay. We got our room upgraded for free which came with our own patio which was huge. Our room itself was large and had custom light settings. We stayed in 3 hotels in Barcelona and this one was my favorite. The staff were all extremely nice and helpful. The lobby is chic and aesthetically pleasing. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Hotel 1898 is outstanding. First off, the staff is absolutely amazing. Very friendly, and accommodating! So grateful to be in a hotel where you are truly valued as a guest ! I will certainly be staying here from now on when visiting Barcelona. I’m Even considering extending my stay to just enjoy another pleasant day at this wonderful establishment. Stylish & luxurious. Everywhere was spotless the staff were all really friendly & helpful. The food was lush, best buffet breakfast I’ve seen by a country mile. Central to all locations, would definitely stay here again.

Amazing staff. Never been at a place where everything is just there and perfect. Beautiful old rooms and interior. The heated pool and spa is wonderfull. We felt very welcome and will definetly come back when we have the chanche. And watching a sunset at the cool rooftop is also highly recommended

Beautiful, classic and classy hotel around the Gothic District. Friendly and professional staff, all the amenities a 5 star hotel offers Rooftop lounge and pool with a lovely view of Barcelona. The price was affordable and the value high. If I am ever in Barcelona again, this is where I will be staying.

Have been staying in the hotel many times over the last 10 years and have stayed here for around 4 weeks in total over the summer months this year and the experience has been outstanding as always. All the staff are super friendly and provide a first class service. Simply wonderful !! Can’t wait to come back !

Had a great stay here! The service was great and the team made great recommendations, were very generous, and it was great value for my money. Biggest plus: the location and the rooftop pool with restaurant and bar! I’d easily come stay here again next time I’m in Barcelona!

Revolting place. Feels more like a run - down din in the red - light district. Despite all the outer glamour: stay away from this place.

Would have rated this 5 star but two things let it down. Everything is of high quality except the toilet roll. Think school quality! Also the eco credentials of the hotel leave a lot to be desired, plastic straws, no option for towels not to be changed daily etc. Staff here were amazing and so helpful, spa swimming pool is lovely. Breakfast buffet was great quality and loads to choose from.

Nice hotel in great location! The rooftop and spa are pretty nice. The lobby is very welcoming and luxurious. The downsides are the parking which has a sharp downturn making it difficult to enter the parking if you have a bigger car. The other disadvantage was the noise from the trams at night. For the price still good value for money though !

I was expecting a bit more for the money that we paid. The terrace bar was closed despite the website was saying the opposite. At spa the steam was not working. The staff service was very nice and warm. The room was quite ok. The only issue was that despite it was known that guests will be coming, the heating for the water and the space was not on and it was taking a while. Breakfast was amazing and full of variety to choose and the staff was on it to replace everything.

We were pleasantly surprised that our stay was very relaxing and is everything we could've asked for. We stayed for 2 nights as part of our honeymoon pre-cruise and the hotel staff were very friendly and offered us a little surprise in our room because it was our honeymoon. Thank you Hotel 1898. We'll be returning again 100% during our next visit to Barcelona. Pro: - comfortable, spacious, clean rooms - indoor spa is way better than any other hotels in the area including 5 star hotels that we stayed at - love the pleasant smell of the hotel/room - great location Con: - at nighttime, we were able to hear some noise level from the streets - not much of a view (but we are out pretty much the entire day).

The hotel is in a good location (close to the market, gothic quarter, el born) but a little overpriced, pictures make it look nicer than it is. The bar looks really old. Upgraded to Superior room but is was quite small for the price and the balcony was only enough to stand on your toes and no chairs were provided. Overall I was comfortable staying here but the hotel def needs more spirit. It’s quite gloomy in there.

Great hotel and very well located. Nice rooms and staff friendly and helpful. Only downside was a poor shower - lacked power and located so that it was hard to get under.

It’s mediocre at best, I expected a lot more for the price. The bedrooms are tired, the hot water takes forever to come to the tap. Great pool and classy place but needs updating.

Only issue with the hotel was the noise. We had a room by the elevator and at times we can hear voices from the hall so we'll it would almost seem like they were in our room. Besides that the hotel was beautiful the lobby felt rich and classy. The terrace was amazing and the whole staff was very friendly. Taxis right outside the hotel all-day. The best part of it all was the location. Great hotel if you want to be by everything and don't mind the noise.

Nice hotel with great decor, friendly staff and central location. The spa and gym look good but the rooftop pool is more like a large bath. The rooftop restaurant is to be avoided. Food was terrible. We had to send both meals back to be redone and in the end were still charged full price for both. The fish wasn't cooked and the pork ribs were 80% fat - including the replacement meal. We ended our evening getting some great dumplings down the road!

Very good hotel and amazing staff. Super friendly. I used restaurant for breakfast, lubch and dinner and the waiters and waitresses were really gentle and attentive. The spa was not so good and the water was not warmed up at all. The two sauna were good though. The gym is small but clean and with a big tv to watch the news while working out.

Prime location on la rambla. Most aspects of the stay were very premium feeling, the spa is a great amenity. -1 star because we had some issues with the staff. Checkout was slow and we were presented with the wrong room/bill, and poor attitude from one of the receptionists. Also there was an argument between 2 restaurant staff during breakfast which was a little too loud and long to have in front of customers. Parking is convenient but troublesome as you have to call the front desk to have them open the garage door, which can take 5+ minutes if it is busy. Otherwise I would recommend and stay again when I am in town.

Superbly located hotel. Very attentive staff. And the beds are fantastic. A 4 star Hotel that deserves a 5 Star review. The rooftop area is a great spot to chill and relax. Especially if you are flying in from overseas and your check in isn’t until 3 PM. Highly recommended! 👍👍
