I stayed at the hostel for 8 nights. While I wanna manage my expectations considering that this is just a hostel, I also think it deserves some scrutiny, considering the high prices. Some negatives: - I booked two beds with my friend, but they split us up the first night, even though we had booked months beforehand. We spent our first morning trying to sort this out, and while the staff was friendly and we ended up getting a room together for the rest of our stay, this whole process took hours, meaning that we couldn’t really leave the area for the first half of our first day in Barcelona. - The shower ceilings are completely covered in mould. - There is no kitchen and outside food isn’t allowed, meaning that besides paying a lot for your accommodation, you will also have to spend money on eating out for every meal. - There is only one very slow elevator for the entire 8-storey building. - Every item you buy from reception (locks, towels, etc) are poor quality and immediately fall apart. On a more positive note: - The rooms are generally very clean (besides the shower mould), as they are cleaned every morning. - It’s conveniently located. - Staff is friendly. - The rooftop is a nice hangout area. My stay was enjoyable enough, but next time I’ll be opting for a similarly priced AirBnb or hotel instead.

Spent about 5 days here. The overall experience is positive. Some issues faced by me, though minor, have also been pointed out by other reviews repeatedly. - The room key sometimes stops working and you have to go to the desk to have it fixed. They say not to put it with your phone or magnetic surfaces but it still randomly stops working. - The elevator is indeed the slowest in all of Europe. It was so much more time efficient for me to climb four floors to my room and back. But of course that is exhausting especially after a long and busy day. - Housekeeping just barges in at 9:30 somedays making a lot of noise. Other than that, the room was very clean. The bedding was clean and comfortable as well. The toilet, shower and sink were good and served the purposes. One thing I would like is maybe extend the time that the roof stays open. It closes at 10 PM! It is a great place to spend time and just relax after the day so it would be nice if we could sit longer there.

The hotel has a young adult vibe and is a chill place. There is a bar in the lobby, three swing chairs, a game room floor with a pool table, and space to sit on your laptop. The rooms were nice and has space, with a desk. The shower and toilet room was small but doesn't affect the score. The breakfast was plain but there are breakfast locations in walking distance. The metro is close and the best churro place is less than 5 minutes of a walk. I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again next time.

Where to begin... Generator Hostel in Barcelona was an absolute nightmare. I cannot express enough how much I regretted my decision to stay there. First and foremost, let's talk about the exorbitant price of €91 per person per night. It's laughable to think that this hostel could even dream of justifying such a ludicrous price. The rooms were nothing short of a sauna. Sweaty, suffocating, and utterly unbearable. I've never experienced such discomfort in my life. It felt like being trapped in an oven, slowly roasting away while desperately searching for a breath of fresh air. Forget about a good night's sleep, because all you'll get is a sweaty, sleep-deprived nightmare. And let's not even get started on the so-called "common areas." There was absolutely no atmosphere whatsoever. It was like walking into a ghost town, devoid of any life or energy. It felt like a deserted wasteland, where any hope of socializing or meeting fellow travelers went to die. I might as well have been sitting alone in my stuffy room, for all the joy the common areas provided. Oh, and did I mention the lack of food service? Not a single bite to eat could be found within the premises. I don't know about you, but I expect at least some basic sustenance when staying at a hostel. It's a basic necessity, or so I thought. But apparently, Generator Hostel believes that their guests can survive on air and dreams alone. Dreadful breakfast in the morning which you had no other choice to eat because they wouldmt even let you bring in food from outside. One staff member seemed as though they had mastered the art of apathy and indifference when they spotted us. It was clear that they had no interest in providing even the slightest bit of service or hospitality, just pure pain. To sum it up, Generator Hostel is an overpriced disaster with rooms that would make a sauna feel like a winter wonderland. The common areas were devoid of any life, (which i assume was sucked away by the staff). Save yourself the agony and stay far, far away from this wretched place. Edit: prepare to hit 50,000 steps a day because that elevator is useless

Didn’t have the best experience here. No social vibe at all, it definitely doesn’t feel like a hostel. The staff were not very friendly. At 9:30am one morning in the middle of my stay, the cleaners came inside our room and had the door wide open and began changing sheets etc. Some girls were still sleeping… i thought it was really rude. We could not use the bathroom all morning… don’t understand the timing. It’s also quite expensive for what it is. Overall the place is clean and it’s in a pretty good location… would recommend checking out some other hostels before booking here.

it was a really good experience staying here. the location is good, it's close to the sagrada familia and there are at least two subway stations (from different lines), and bus stations as well. the hostel has a lot of facilities and good people. the only complains i have is regarding the rooms, that were kinda small for 8 people, but we got lucky to get nice roomates, so we worked it out. also, the elevator broke, but we were lucky because we were on the 2nd floor, but they still hadn't fixed it when i left (even befeore it broke it was always full and it took a long time for it to arrive). also important to mention that they besides these small problems, it is also not allowed to cook in the kitchen, so my friend that was staying there for a month and wanted to cook to save money complained that it is not possible. besides that, i totally recommend staying in this hostel, with friedns, alone or even family (they have hotel rooms as well)

Dear Sir or Madam, I am sorry to say but this has been the dirtiest accommodation I have ever been to. When we got our first room, it was dirty. There was hair on the bed and there was some kind of fluid on the bed sheets and on our small closet beside the bed. When I put my clothes there they became sticky and dirty. Also my girlfriend arm and fingers were sticky in the bed. When we complained for the first time we got a free breakfast and a new room and it was promised that it is going to be clean. Please see the picture of the hairdryer and the toilet how they looked like in the second room. There was again hair on the bed, blood on the wall behind our head and there was pee in the toilet. It was not flushed and cleaned. When we complained for the second time they gave us cleaning equipment to clean our room by ourselves. Who does this? I pay around 350 euros for a service and I am supposed to clean my own room as a guest? After the last complaint we were again moved to finally clean room. We were promised that our entire stay is going to be refunded but no one has contacted us yet nor the money has been returned. I would kindly request the staff members to reach out and finish up the process that they promised. Thank you for your assistance! Kind regards, Norbert Molnár I

The rooms were very dirty and the furniture was only slightly damaged. The smell from the hostel will haunt me in my nightmares for a long time. The neighbours were very talkative until early morning hours. Definitely wouldn’t recommend it. Sleeping on the streets is the better option here ;)

Even though the location was excellent and close to lots of touristical places, we rented deluxe private room and it was so weak as the materials that must be inside of the room. Like soaps, towels, shampoos, hair dryers so on. Even you pay more for the experience as if you stayed in hotel, certainly the facilities offered could have been better.

Very bad and prejudiced welcome. Very bad service. As soon as I came, I was judged by my clothes, outfits. I talked to them in English and the employees were speaking Spanish to each other and one of the employees said to show me only the hostels room and tell him we don't have private rooms. She said me that we don't have private rooms. Then I insisted on the private room and i was leaving because i was interested on private room and not hostel. She said wait, we have a private room and it costs 139 euros. I answer ok ,I will take it. Again they were speaking Spanish. They wanted to send me away and told me that we only accept bank card payments. I paid by bank card and got my room. They changed theirs mind because at first they judged my outfit. Very weak WiFi. There is an interruption in the Internet. Slow elevator. Paid 139 euros and nothing included. Only teo bottles of water in the room. I do not recommend this hotel. Barcelona is beautiful and there are also other hotels that welcome you.

I stayed just one night here. It was very comfortable well I had quiet roommates too. The lobby was full of noisy people at 1am even though the receptionist tried controlling them. It’s a very comfortable hostel though. Will return if I need to

We booked a deluxe king room. The customer service here was very nice and the staff seemed alright. Besides that nothing was what we expected. The king bed was two mattresses put together. So we spent the next 5 days pushing them back and forth the whole time. This made the whole sleeping experience no fun. The bathroom has a timer on and it and will turn off while you are showering so you have to start waiving you hands around or opening the shower door. Now hair dryer was not functioning right and had paper stuck all over it. We never saw any complimentary toiletries with our room. They ended up giving us a complimentary breakfast (normally 7 Euros each) This included just cold food with cereal, some messy meats, and yogurt. For 3 Euros more you could get a bagel and eggs. We enjoyed going out for breakfast and saved money doing so. For the price that we paid for the DELUXE KING we both were expecting better accommodations. For a little more you can stay at hotel with better conditions.

Overall good place and helpful people, but two things brought it from 5 stars to 2. 1. Some of the bedding showed signs of not being clean. 2. They charged us extra to (10 Euros) to replace our towels after we’d been there four days. On the positive, you can meet plenty of other travellers, and the front desk can provide you with any info you need about the city.

Arrived to a cramped and dirty dorm room - bin was full, empty beer cans all over the place and a dirty shower. At least the beds were comfy. We booked for 3 nights - but got checked out of our room without being told after the second night!? Retuned to our room at midnight (our keycards still worked) to find all of our belongings had disappeared and there were other people in our beds. Had to dig our stuff out of bin bags at reception to move rooms at 1am. At first we were told it was our fault until I showed them them the booking reference and they admitted to an error on their end. the staff were very nice and offered us a free breakfast and late checkout which was nice, but honestly should have been refunded for the third night as it was a stressful and unpleasant experience - and none of the plugs worked in the new room so we had no charge on our phones for travelling the next day. We were also told our new room would be empty but 2 random guys showed up at 2am who the hotel had no idea about. Didn’t feel at all safe - the staff had no idea what was going on or which room anyone was supposed to be in. Utter chaos. Generator hostels are severely overrated. At least the breakfast was nice.

Giant hostel with many people so it's good if you're looking for meeting other travelers and socializing. Cool lobby area and a beautiful rooftop. Seems like they also organize happy hours and nightly events for those interested. The only thing I found odd were the high number of higher school and middle school students staying here, but maybe they have a contract or agreement or something with the hostel. Overall, a positive stay and I met some great ladies at this hostel.

First of all, my reservation got cancelled for some reason (a reason they didn't know) but I didn't receive any information about it. It was quite the shock when I arrived and they told me that I don't have a reserved place and there were no spesific reason for that although I received an e-mail saying that my booking was successful. Lucky enough there was empty places and they booked me a place. They charged me with the current price, not with the price of the time of my original booking, even though the time and price of my original booking was visible!!! It was 1 euro difference, so I didn't make a big deal out of it at that time but this is a really bad attitude towards customers when something fails because of your service and you don't take responsibility. The attitude of the staff is quite good. They were very helpful for check in/out and cafe services. Kitchen only had microwave as the staff told me, at the time of my visit, so not the best hostel if you want to cook yourself. Apart from these, it was a reasobably good place to stay. Bed was comfortable, has charger for your phone, only one outlet per bed. Cleanliness was good. There is a lockable compartment under the beds. I will try other hostels the next time but this hostel is not bad, but not the best either.

It was one of the dirtiest hostels I've ever stayed in. The rooms are not cleaned properly, they supposedly clean the rooms but only 8 people stay there, the cleaning they do is very superficial. While the cabinets under the beds were broken, the windows of the room were also broken and we could not close the windows. There are almost 10 rooms on each floor and it is a 7-storey hotel, but there are only 2 elevators on each floor and you wait for the elevator for minutes. The corridors smell very bad and are not cleaned well enough. I really regret staying here and if you have some budget for your holiday then, definitely do not stay here, it is a regret!!

I believe that they are charging alot of money while the facilities are not up to that standard. The room was exceptionally small with 6 beds , the beds was so close to each other that if one person is standing on the way other can't cross. Same as the washroom and toilet was so small . I don't understand on what basis they are charging that much amount

Great location, it was convenient to most tourist attractions. It was clean and service was amazing. Big shout out to Surib, Jenny at the reception and their manager, Xavier. They were always ready to go the extra mile! Well done team and thanks for making my stay comfortable.

Amazing place and service. If you are looking for an hostel where to spend some days in Barcelona i would recommend Hostel Generator 100%. The rooms are really cleaned and well organized, not to mention the kindness and willingness of the stuff. I am really satisfied

Unfortunately I had a bad experience in this hostal, the first night I wasn’t able to sleep at all. I stayed in a 6 bed dorm and seemed like all the people there were drinking heavy so they were all making a mess in the dorm the entire night. Smelled like public bathroom literally there was pee everywhere and they were turning in the light all the time even at 5 am. The last drunk dude came at 7 am when I decided to get out of that room. I talked to reception since I wanted to leave so they would do a refund at least so I could go to another hostal and try to get some sleep but they only offered to change my dorm. Anyway… this place is very dirty in the room and the bathrooms are disgusting. The restaurant area is fine… please try to improve your service in the dorms and hire more people to clean at least 2 times a day. I would say it’s a party hostal so don’t expect to get some sleep here.

I want to start by saying that the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the location is fantastic, the breakfast options are yummy, and the room size is just right. Everything that I went to and did was easily in walking distance or able to get too by train/bus/taxi. The atmosphere was positive, upbeat, and the decoration was stunning. I love the "bohemian" style interior design. The small breakfast room with the lamps is gorgeous. I highly admire hanging lamps like that. I do NOT like to give negative reviews but I truly am disappointed... There are a few complaints, especially for the price given with a hostel, that I must say: 1) I had a two person room reserved, they contacted me DURING my vacation, even though the reservation was made several months prior, to tell me that my credit card was not going through for some reason. I was travelling by train and frantically calling to figure things out. I FINALLY got through to someone who said that my room was still secured. Thank goodness! **I also even sent emails out during that train ride and later received replies while I was already 2 days into my stay at your establishment** Communication is NOT key at this company. 2) I get into my room and find that the breaker box is open (which I later found out was not supposed to be open) and the ceiling lights are not working. So the bathroom light, entrance light, sleeping area lights, and balcony are all NOT working. I go to the front desk, tell them my situation and they came up, saw the breaker box open and would do something about it, I thank them, and.......nothing was done about it. So all the light I had was from 2 dimly lit hanging lamps and a lamp that was plugged directly into the wall that I could move around with a clamp already with it. **This was a HUGE inconvenience when needing light in the bathroom and in the sleeping area. Like, seriously? I shouldn't have to complain about simple lighting.....** 3) The room was dusty. Especially underneath the bed. It looked like it hadn't been swept in several days, which makes me wonder about the cleanliness of the sheets and towels.... With being a little over $600 for only a couple of nights, I would assume that the accommodations might be a /bit/ better than they were. I want a partial refund for this, but with how the communication was prior, I doubt anything would happen.

The hostel itself is very nice. Great atmosphere and well kept. The staff is NOT friendly at all. They were extremely rude on multiple occasions. On the first day we got there the cleaner entered our room with us in it and started cleaning. One of our roommates was sleeping. She didn’t say anything to us. They gave us a room key to a room that was full of people and had us sit and wait an hour in order for it to be resolved. We ended up being late to a tour as a result of this. They were very disorganized. The front desk staff was not accommodating or polite. At one point, we had to leave our bags with them and the guy at the front gave us attitude. We did not appreciate that considering everything that had already happened. Will most likely not be coming back there again.

Really cool hostel with great common areas with a quite chill vibe. Beds are a bit small, and there is no kitchen facilities if you want to prepare your own food. Found it a bit hard to meet new people. Bar / cafe had limited opening hours.

My bed was not ready at till 21:30! I remind that 2 times but it doesn't work. Staff is not helpful, and friendly. Rooms are not clean. Room card have problem to opem doors , i went desk 3 times for fix it again You can leave luggage for 3 hours, 9 euros. Check in time 10:00, for staying till 12:00 you need pay 5 euro. Also design of wc is weird. You need to wash your hand inside of room.

Solo female traveler here. Honestly, overall it was an okay stay. I have two complaints. The second (at the bottom) is the reason for the two stars. The lockable drawers in the rooms had locked padlocks on them. When I (and the other girls in my room) asked the front desk if we could be given the combinations for the locks, they said they were unable to unlock the drawers and were given a locker downstairs. So we were able to lock up our stuff, but it was really inconvenient and slightly worrying to not be able to stay in the same room as our stuff. The shower, toilet, and sink were located in the room itself so I suppose you may be comfortable leaving some stuff unlocked since you don't have to leave the room to go to the bathroom, but still. I wanted to be able to lock my stuff in my room and not five floors lower. My second complaint is that my key seemingly stopped working... It let me into the room the first time, but when I had to use it the second time (after lugging all my stuff down five floors to lock it up at 11 pm) it kept giving me the red light. One of the other girls heard me struggling and let me in. Admittedly, I did not complain to the front desk because I was only in the hostel for less than 10 hours and honestly just wanted to sleep and then leave.

  • 4/5 Horea P. 6 months ago on Google
It was a pleasant stay. The place could be cleaner - the floors in our dorm felt like they weren’t mopped in ages. My bedside light never worked which was quite a bummer. The staff is super responsive and friendly - we had a complaint about the loud people in the neighbouring dorm and they handled it quickly! The atmosphere also felt really social and enjoyable - the rooftop terrace was amazing!

  • 1/5 Emily C. 9 months ago on Google
A complete rip off, the hostel operates a floating rate according to demand and while advertising to give you the best rate, this actually locks you into the rate at the time of booking. This contradicts the small print. The room is filthy, with greasy hand prints on the door, hair in the bathroom and in the bed.

  • 5/5 Fi S. 1 year ago on Google

The hotel is very nice: clean, new, well furnished and comfortable. The location is strategic 10 minutes from the Sagrada Familia. I found the staff very helpful and ready to satisfy the requests we made of them, qualified staff are capable of communicating in various languages. Large breakfast (sweet and savory). Good value for money! I would recommend it!

I was here a few weeks ago with a travel group and I had an okay time the majority of the time until my last day. My last day I decided to walk around and grab food and go to the beach (there weren’t too many vegan options on their menu, so I decided to get vegan food elsewhere and explore the city). I come back from my day out around 6:00 pm for a few minutes before heading back out. When I came back around 9:30, my leftover food was completely gone. Other people in my room had snacks and food, but the food on my bunk completely disappeared. I was excited for the food because it was delicious and the next day was going to be a travel day so I was fully prepared to get back home. I go to the front desk to ask what their procedures are when cleaning someone’s room because my food was gone. I was told that they’re not supposed to touch anything outside of the necessary items that need to be tended to. They told me to check the shared fridge, and it wasn’t there either. I was told that there was no access to the cameras or money to reimburse me for my food. My tour director also asked them about it and they explained the same to him. They never got my information to contact me, and I have attempted to call several times since I have been home. I would probably avoid this place due to being faced with an issue like this and receiving no help both in person and away.

I stayed in a four-bed room. Room was clean, service and staff were pleasant. But no privacy in the room: there were not curtains on beds, and no closets or lockers. I was there for three nights and it was overall positive experience.

Nice hostel for the price. They have some really cool events for guests and groups. Very good vibes and the place smells great. I took off a star because the showers are so tiny you can hardly use them if you’re a bigger person. They have a very good breakfast but it costs extra, so do towels.

  • 2/5 ellis h. 9 months ago on Google
Don’t let the looks fool you, this place is a glorified dorm room where travelers are stuffed into small closets of rooms. The bathrooms are caked in mold and the pillows are nothing more than the idea of a pillow. What is more, they will pinch every euro from you, they charge 5 euros for a towel, they charge store your luggage and the restaurant/bar are incredibly overpriced. Traveler beware.

  • 3/5 Megan 1 year ago on Google
Not the best hostel experience, but also not the worst. Did have higher expectations though, considering the price. We booked a private double room, but we may as well have slept in a dorm because we were right next to the shared bathroom for the floor and got minimal sleep, so the private ended up being pointless. It was very difficult to fall asleep to slamming cubicle doors and hand dryers for 4 nights. They also don't have a shared kitchen space, or even anything as simple as a microwave, so be prepared to be eating out. It would have been considerate for the private room would have been a "do not disturb" sign for the door. Our flight was ridiculously delayed and we ended up getting checking in in the early hours of the morning. Being woken up by housekeeping barging into the room at 10am when we'd barely slept was not a great experience. The daily cleaning is nice, but it's very hard to try and explain to someone that you don't want/need your room cleaned when you don't speak the same language. We used the stairs our entire stay because the lift situation was ridiculous. Overall it was bearable, we just feel a little let down given the price point.

This is best hotel to live, very neat and clean, staff was good and most of all the breakfast it's very premium type brakefast. You can pay 5 or 6 euros at the reception and enjoy it, I stayed 1 night before leaving Barcelona. But bit far away from city centre, you have to talk 3 km to go to catalynia.

The rooms were ok. My friend and I stay in one room, but it wasn't clear from the description that it would only be one bed. The location was a bit far from any attractions and in a quiet area. Other than that it was a standard hostel atmosphere but a little better. The bar was cool and it was easy to meet other travelers. Very fun time in Barcelona!

very nice generator hostel. we stayed in a 2 person room with balcony. room was nice and clean, a bit small but with the balcony perfect! only 1 lawnchair for a 2 person room tho. breakfast is basic, better to get breakfast in one of the many breadshops and coffeerooms. perfect connection with metro and next to the main shoppingstreet Ramblas. also a few blocks from the Segrada Familia. i liked the hospitallity and am ready to book again soon!

Very good hostel I've never seen more friendly and helpful staff . Was my first time staying in a hostel I was nervous at first but it was good everyone was friendly and it was safe and clean . The social areas are good and there's plenty of places to chill and relax . Only issue was the elevator is so slow lol you have to wait a long time for it to come

Enjoyed the stay. But the problems began at the foosball table... The table was incredible, craftsmanship was great. However maintenance has not been kept up, goalie alone has endplay of 5.0mm over factory specification. Found 14 of 22 players in similar condition, would recommend technician verify torque on all 22 players.

Positives : Helpful staff, modern interior, nice social and study areas, very close to bus and Metro (just 3 stops to Liceu), plenty of nearby marts and great restaurants Downsides from my experience (I stayed in a private room): The hallways are unusually dark, the smell of the city sewage would randomly make it's way into my bathroom despite being on 7th floor. The floors were dusty. The setup of the shower in the bathroom is very awkward and gets water all over the floor and toilet. The king bed is actually two small beds pushed into one so you can't lay in the middle of it or the beds will separate. No gym. No organized activities (COVID restrictions have loosened and bars/clubs are open til 4am so no excuses) Amenities: very modern locker system that you can use to hold your luggage if you need to store securely (3 different sizes), washer and dryer 3.5 euros (coins only) to use each machine once , there is a very nice terrace up top go to 8th floor and take a small flight of stairs If you are looking for a gym ( amazing pool, free weights, organized classes, spin room, treads, many machines) eurofitness is 2 mins away and does day passes for 12 euros I was satisfied with my visit but the place is on the pricier end I hate to compare but the curio Alexandra cost me only 10-15 euro more per night

Really fantastic experience. I stayed in a private room and it was clean, spacious and well maintained. Highlight of the stay was the super friendly and helpful staff at the front desk. Morning coffee or a sundown drink at the rooftop is a must.

Such a great experience. Our room was cleaned every day. The vibes are super positive. The ATM in the lobby has the cheapest fees (use it). Jose and Gloria in the bar made us feel like family. ❤️ I will be back

When I first came in it was super overwhelming. It is not a small institution at all. Not what I expected to be honest. It took forever to check in and they make you leave at 10 am. It’s like they really don’t want you here. There was also a vintage fashion shop going on too so there were a ton of strangers going in and out. There were a lot of kids too. When I finally got to my room the bed was unmade. I had to go somewhere so it was fine. I went downstairs and asked the front desk about it. They said they would fix it. I came back 5 hours later and they still hadn’t made the bed. I went back downstairs and asked the front desk. I just find this very disorganized. The room was also incredibly messy with other peoples things who look like they actually live live there. I wouldn’t suggest this place as a hostel but I’m sure it is nice when you book your own room. The plus is that the beds are comfy and the room has good air conditioning. The downsides is that the bathroom is tiny and you might wake everyone up if you come back late and decide to shower.

I stayed a few days for a company event, nicely decorated and the rooms are clean and comfortable. It is also right in the middle of the Barrio de Gracia. From there you can go wherever you want. Food was delicious, I ordered a burger. Juana was so kind. I will repeat.

The hotel itself is terrible and poor planning on their part split up one person from our group even though we booked the whole room and they refused to correct it. The only good thing was the bartender José at the bar, he was great and such an awesome bartender. Make sure to stop by at night and try his ‘Tropical Paradise’ drink. May be the best drink I’ve ever had.

I stayed at the Generator for most of my time in Barcelona, 7 nights total. Id been staying at an Airbnb before and had an alright time, but hadn’t met anyone. Staying at the Generator, I met so many kind people from all over the world. I was traveling solo, and felt very lucky to have not felt unsafe at any point during my time here. One of the first people I met was my flat mate Josef (Jose). He was a friend right away. He also worked at the Generator’s bar and made some incredible cocktails. It was an unforgettable stay at a centrally located hostel filled with warm and welcoming staff and bunk mates.

Alessandro, Jose, and Gloria were all wonderful bartenders! Blen and Kenya were equally as wonderful at working the front desk, and showed me around the city personally. I had a great time here! The staff is exceptionally friendly. I cannot recommend a stay here enough.

Really happy with our stay! We stayed for 5 nights, everything was clean and worked well. The hostel is in a really good location and it has a really nice rooftop terrace with a view of the city. Would definitely use Generator again!

Honestly the best way to start your trip around Europe! Everyone (staff and people) here are so friendly and welcoming! The rooms have everything you need, and are cleaned daily! Have had a blast making friends and just going down stairs to enjoy the amazing cocktails (thanks Jose!) and music. Can’t wait to come again!

Fantastic hostel and great facilities. Highly recommend it. Javi was really nice and caring. It would be good to add some vegan options to breakfast - I know there are some vegetarian ones - but not vegan unfortunately. Overall my stay was pleasant and comfortable.

They clean the rooms every 5-7 days. This is really not hygenic enough especially for the shared rooms. No ventilation as well. Also not very safe, as strangers are allowed to enter the hostel and go to the rooms if they want. Good things are the breakfast area which is very comfortable and suitable also as a working space, and the staff is friendly too. Good prices and good location as well in most possibly the best area of Barcelona (Gracia).

We had a bad experience. When almost asleep, a stranger got in our room and layed down in our bed. We rented the full room. Apparently due to an error in the hotel booking system, the person was booked in the wrong room. Really unacceptable. Also the AC was blowing hot air, bathroom and toilet are really small. Bathroom needed maintenance. The hostel staff could not help us well with these issues. The thing is, we don't expect a lot, but the place should be safe and maintained well.

Staff were really friendly and spoke English which was great. But on our third night our room was changed without us being told - we arrived in our room at 1AM to find all our things missing with no idea where they were. Turned out they’d been stored in binbags in reception (mostly - we still had to collect some things from our old room). In future we could be sent a text or email about the room change as we seriously thought all our things had been stolen. We were told that our new room would be empty, but found that there were actually two people staying there. It was worrying that the staff seemed not to know who was in the room. The stairs have a key-card lock but the elevator doesn’t, so we wonder if they snuck in? The plug sockets didn’t work in the new room. Also, if your skin is sensitive to biological washing powder, don’t book here. I asked whether they could change the sheets and they couldn’t. I ended up sleeping on a towel and in my clothes to limit the reaction. The staff are lovely. But there is a lack of organisation that ruined our stay.

A shame. Checkin is supposed to be from 2pm, we have been asked what time we were arriving and informed them we would be there at 2:30pm. We arrived and the rooms got ready after 2 hours only!!! no solution offered for a group of 30 people and very bad customer service at front desk
