This was the worst night sleep I had in any hostel. Firstly the lockers and beds are so loud and squeaky so even when people try to be quiet there is lots of banging. There was only 1 bathroom for the whole floor (1 toilet and 2 showers for female) and one of the showers didn’t have a door. It also smelled badly like drains. Finally, I know this is not directly the hostels fault but the people in my room were so disrespectful and kept me up all night talking at full volume until 4am. One man woke me and asked me to get out of bed at 2:30 because he dropped something down the bed. The person next to me was having sex and I woke up with two people in the bed next to me. This wouldn’t be the hostels fault however when I complained about the problem they said they were aware of these people staying here and that they are disruptive and problematic.

That's my story here. I am in charge of one hostel in Barcelona. We had a overbooking, and I gentle booked this hostel for our guest. However, at the moment of the reservation, some system error happened, and the reservation had booked twice. I contacted the Hipstel and explained the situation, and asked for they charge just one reservation at my credit card, because there was no meaning for a booked two beds for the same person. And the answer of the manager it was "no exceptions". So, even I proved that it was a mistake, they charged me twice for only one guest that stayed only one night. Maybe that's the reason my hostel is 9.2 from 1.210 comments against them, that are 8.7 from 758 comments.

I don’t recommend it. They refused to let me in when I arrived late with my flight while my booking was indicating the hour of arrival ?!

Initially we were 4 people in a mixed dormitory. The dormitory was very small and everyone had their belongings thrown down, you could not even pass. No one was wearing a mask anywhere in the accommodation. There were three more beds available while we had a prepaid reservation for 4 people and the manager of the accommodation was trying at the last minute to find us and clean a bed. The bathroom was extremely dirty and there was no paper in the toilets! Totally disgusting ... For sure, they don't know the word hygiene. Finally, we didn't even stay there, luckily we found another hotel and spent the night there. I do not recommend it. The only good thing was the location.

Avoid this place at all costs. 2 stars for good location and friendly receptionists, but overall pretty bad hostel. Couldn't stay there longer than 15 minutes, lost the money on my 2 night reservation because i couldn't stand the dirty and smelly bedrooms and bathrooms. Lost a whole day in Barcelona just looking for somewhere else to stay. Pretty disappointing

This place was amazing honestly. When I saw the critics here I was really scared but I have no idea why they are so bad. The staff is AMAZING always nice and helpful. They clean everything two times a day, rooms once per day. The bathrooms were always clean and smelling good and the shower was super good with a lot of hot water. The kitchen was also very nice and the terrace too. The rooms are small but they have all the commodities, lockers and sockets for every bed, just bring your own locker (it need to be the big ones). Everything was super clean. I don’t understand these opinions, but probably it’s from people who never been on an hostel and are not used to bunk beds.

Worst hostel ever. Filthy rooms. A fight at 6am between two people. We were obliged to leave two days earlier because of hygiene and lack of professionalism. Worst experience ever.

The place is not as it is shown in the pictures, it’s completely filthy and run down. The single room (which is the only one they have) had a floor with gaps full of grime. The shower is uncomfortably located since when you open the tap the whole toilet floods. It is no surprise the tiles and the floor are rusty and mouldy which is dangerous if you step on it because you can get cut. The toilet paper I got was already started (half used). The trash bags were emptied and reused (you could see how filthy they were). Under the beds there was dust and the drawers were dirty. The noise at night and in the morning was unbearable which made it impossible to sleep, plus the doorbell rang super late at night. I had to leave and find somewhere else to stay unfortunately. I asked the receptionist if it was possible to get a compensation or refund but she said I had to contact booking customer service. Im really disappointed on this place and how they lie to people. Please do not stay here, if you are doubting please DON'T STAY.

I booked this hostel without reading the reviews so of course I arrived feeling a little bit anxious. To be honest? I think that most reviews are unfair. It’s your regular low budget hostel: beds are not the most comfortable but you can definitely fall asleep, common areas such as bathroom and kitchen are cleaned everyday by the staff but OF COURSE the level of cleanliness depends on how the people staying there behave; for example, it’s not the cleaning staff’s fault if the girls sharing the bathroom leave their hair everywhere, right? Overall I found it a pleasant experience: staff was super duper nice, location is P E R F E C T (you’re close to pretty much almost any single landmark + it’s basically the tapas neighbourhood), building is nice, cleanliness is fine. Ps. Don’t trust all the 1 star reviews, I believe most of the people expected something more glamorous or whatever - you get what you pay for

The biggest barracks I have ever visited. It was horrible, we booked for 5 nights but left after one night because it was impossible to sleep without getting waked up by some other room-members, who checked in at 2am or returned to the room at 4am. The room-members were very weird people, who slept with their shoes on and had food-leftovers in their locker. Therefore the smell in the whole room was terrible as well. All in all the place was more similar to a prison than a hotel. Would not recommend to normal people to stay there.

The hostel is perfect for the price. We stayed there for 4 nights, the dormitories are a bit messy but we got used to it very fast. The hostel also features a great and cozy terrace on top of the roof. Kitchen is also great for making quick breakfasts. On top of all, the location is perfect, a bit of lack in the staff as only one actually spoke English but that didn't mind us at all.

I would not recommend this hostel. If you just need an accommodation for one night, it might be an option. But if you want to stay longer I would recommend looking for another hostel. It’s very sticky in the rooms, the beds are dirty. It’s a very nice area but it’s almost impossible to sleep because of the noise. The air cooler didn’t work and the wifi neither. You don’t have any privacy in your room and the common area is very dirty as well. The people in the hostel don’t care about the covid restrictions, nobody is wearing masks. So : if you are visiting barcelona as a backpacker for a few days and want to meet new people, take a look for another one. There are way better options.

Didn't enjoy the experience... As I booked for the Pentecost weekend, the demand for hostels in Barcelona skyrocketed as well as for the price... I only booked this one as it was the only hostel left when doing my research and the charged price was going way too far. This hostel worth no more than 15€ per night, but I had to booked it for 5 times higher... for a bed (without curtains !!) in a 12-bed dormitory room, that's just over excessive !! The place isn't clean, the lock of our door was half broken and the bathroom was smelly and so humid. I only knew when arriving that it was shared by the whole floor and not only by our room... Knowing that there were 5-6 rooms and that each might be similar to ours which has 12 beds, I let you do the math... Anyway, big lack of hygiene here. Fortunately for me, I didn't have to sleep there as I found another hostel meanwhile (didn't get any refund of course), cheaper and so much better than this one, it's like night and day. It is called the Yeah Hostel which I totally recommend.

I wouldn’t even give it a one! Very dodgy place! So many people had stuff stolen from the hotel, the lockers look like people have tried to open them even with locks on them, the pictures are so Deceiving. The place is not clean, the bedding was dirty, when I lifted up my mattress it was sooooo dirty in the grooves of the bed, I’m pretty sure there’s bed bugs as I got bit and so did other people. They also kicked us out a day earlier for ‘being loud’ when we were just sat talking in our room. I think they were actually overbooked and used that as an excuse to get us out as our room was full of people that same evening and we didn’t leave until around lunch time.

+ The location was good. It was easy to find and located near some restaurants and the main street of La Rambla. + The staff was excellent and very friendly. The staff and my interactions with them were the highlight of my stay. We even went out together one night. Vibes. +/- I enjoyed the rooftop terrace but wasn't a fan of how early it closed.. + Beds were comfy enough. + The facilities were clean and cleaned daily. - On the day of checkout, the reception was supposed to open at 8. No one showed up until 8:40 and this tardiness caused me to leave the hostel later than anticipated thus actually making me miss my flight out of Barcelona. - laundry was still damp when it was given back to me - wasn't the greatest place to meet other travelers. i was with my friend but idk if id recommend it to solo travelers.

Service was friendly and fast. Rooms were good, only minus one star for some beds having too small lockers to fit fullsize backpack in and for not having privacy curtains on beds. Area was nice and close enough to train station and harbour to be able to walk.

It was the worst Hipstel I ever visited. The beaming light was the whole night on without the possibility to switch off. The sanitary was stingy and dirty. Rooftop and the location were great (the best on that trip in that area). Please, guys, rather do yourself a favor and visit the Hipstel in Gracia. There they are so sociable and friendly

Wanted to stay there for 5 nights with some friends… we were in a Dormitory with 2 other guys, who just slept all the time and were really smelly. Its just impossible to sleep in such a room because we had to keep the windows shut cause there where people outside screaming around all night…this resultet in an extremely unpleasent smell. There were also plates with food leftovers in the lockers… all in all the hipstel is an uuu huara Rotzschabracka that i dont recommend to any normal individual

Booked for 5 nights, left after the first. Dirty bathrooms and chewinggums next to the beds. New guests arrived independently at 00:30 and 02:30 and 04:00 in the night. Our roommates were very strange people. They went out at 2 in the night, retuned at 4 and slept for the whole rest of the day with ther cloths and shoes still on. A plate with bolognese was left in the locker and the whole room smelled. All in all I would recomend you to stay away from this hideos place.

Smell like someone is dead, disco all the night so impossible to sleep, lockers without padlocks, at least I was rejected to have one. Bathroom is dirty and smelly, also water pressure is low. Overall: slightly worse than shelters for homeless

I booked but was not able to make it to my reservation so I went to cancel and they charged me my entire stay to cancel??? I understand a cancelation fee but to charge 100% what I payed to stay is very excessive. In the end I had to pay twice what I would have payed if I had been able to make it. You can request to have it reduced or wavered but of course, it wasn't approved. Change cancelation policies please.

Loved the hostel! The staff was great, the location couldn't be better, and there are so many program options nearby! The rooms have beds that were kind of loud when someone moved too fast and the unlocked lockers opened and made really loud noises during night. Still deserves the 5*!

At very convenient location! The people here are very warm and welcoming I loved staying here, my solo trip was more happening as I could meet other solo travelers! They had an amazing kitchen facility. Washrooms can get pretty busy and occupied but rest is all good 😊

Positives : - Each member of the staff was great - professional and kind, from the cleaner to the receptionists! - We had booked the only private bedroom they have which has a private toilet as well. - Location is perfect, right around the corner there is the only street in Barcelona serving pintxos ( a Basque traditional finger food) , you're 3 mins walk from a central metro line and plenty of buses to go around. If you like walking, in 25 mins you're on the beach, in 15 mins you're in The Gotico , in another 20 you're in placa de Espanya. There is also a beautiful Palazo de la Magia just nearby! - Kitchen was cleaned every morning, also both kitchen and terrace have a curfew which we appreciated as the double room is right between the kitchen and stairs to the second floor. I would say there wasn't too much noise at night, also bedroom has double glazing so noise is reduced ( unless the trash truck comes around at 3am and sounds like a spaceship). Things to improve: - the hostel building is definitely run down and needs work. Internet router fried within our first days so we had to ask to get access to our bedroom to the staff and using a shoe to hold the door open if we were in the terrace/kitchen - In 1 week stay I'd say it would have been nice to get our room clean at least once or some fresh towels. The dorms and communal toilets were cleaned every day we felt a bit left over. - Cleanliness on arrival seemed superficial as there was dust inside drawers and on skirtings. - Something that weirded me out was to have given a duvet without any cover. Truly unhygienic - but hey, we didn't really need to use them so fine. - Pipes smell, we had to ask for a room fragrance to bare with it since the sink is inside the bedroom. - The entire bathroom needs rework as there are signs of black mould in the shower plate and it looks like it's all falling apart. - One fridge for 3 floors hostel it's too small. We struggled to find space in the fridge without squeezing thru. Generally the kitchen is also a bit run down and needs all the cupboards redone. - Terrace is only partially open and has only a LED strip to light up at night which is a missed occasion to create a cozy space The staff is the highlight of this place, and most travellers were quiet and not your classic rowdy party heads. If the owner could spend a bit of money to refresh it I'm sure there would be much better reviews!

I have say that people are talking trash about this place for no reason. Maybe it used to be bad but me and my friend just stayed there and it was really nice, and totally worth the price. We were quite worried because of the reviews we read about it but it was more than fine. Beds are comfortable, toilets and showers are clean, and the location is amazing and close to a metro station. There are also Many bars and restaurants around. The staff are super nice and helpful, we highly recommend!

First time at a hostel and this was a very good start! Very cheap prices and you pay for what you get in terms of bunks but the experience and hospitality was priceless. All the staff were so welcoming and so great! They serve a family dinner every night and try their best to include everyone (very helpful if you’re a solo traveller). They also do group activities everyday and there’s something for everyone. In terms of cleanliness I was also very surprised and impressed, for what we paid I didn’t expect much, but was impressed. They cleaned the common areas and washrooms all the time. If it was messy or gross it was definitely because of other guests staying not cleaning up after themselves. Every morning is was nice to go have a shower in a clean looking and smelling washroom. Everyone staying was also really nice and it’s very easy to make friends. Very social hostel, while it may not be for everyone, still a great place. Would say a party hostel but that wasn’t an issue for us. If we didn’t want to go out we just didn’t and it got pretty quiet after 11PM. All in all very happy we chose Hostel One Hipstel

The reviews tell mostly the truth. Let me start with the perspective - me and my friends (a group of 25+ y.old) came to stay for 12 days for the Primavera festival. We didnt expect much, the reviews gave us proper vision of what the hostel might look like. When it comes to positives - there were helpful good people among the staff. The kitchen was well equipped, and the floors were swiped and cleaned regularly. We were allowed to leave our stuff safely before checking in. Now, the room we were living in was for 14 people (actually it was two rooms connected, the one in which we stayed had 4 bunk beds) was ok but not for a 12 day stay. The beds were wobbly and the mattresses causing back pains. The temperature inside the room almost non stop causing you to sweat (to the point where you were wet - top to bottom). AC in our room wasnt operating during our whole stay. To produce any airflow we were opening the windows which on the other hand caused increased noise (this wasn't the major problem for us since we came with noise stoppers for the festival, we didnt know how handy they will be during our sleep :) ) The main causes of noise were motorcycles, scooters and people partying in the bars nearby. (Again not a major problem for us) A single "wardrobe" (its already an exaggeration) for 8 people and lockers that could not fit much inside. For the lockers you needed either your own lock or to buy one for around 2€ No place to leave your suitcase (which served as our wardrobe eventually) - they didnt fit under our beds. The beds in the room connected to our room had some additional lockers below the beds, but our beds didn't have such. It was hard to fall asleep. Staying in the room caused you to cough and we have no idea from what but leaving the place helped immediately. Our guess is mixture of mold, dust, lack of fresh air and humidity. There was one shower inside the bathroom on the 2nd floor that had mold all over the ceiling. The lock in the other was really problematic to work with. You needed to push very hard and bend it to lock the door to the shower room. The toilet was hard to stay in - the ventilation only worked together with the light inside the room and the light was turned on by the motion sensor. Additionally the vent was all covered in dust. On the positive side - the staff kept the bathroom well equipped all the time (toilet paper, paper towels). My overall experience was not that bad but i got sick for the last couple of days and the illness only reinforced all the bad sides. It is impossible to get well inside this place. To sum up - ok for a single day, 3 at most, cheap but messy, with a lot of room for improvement that doesnt need much work. Not a pleasant stay to say the least.

At the reception out of 3 shifts only one knew what to do. They guys let everyone in the hostel without control, didn't give us receipt (but later asked for it) and so on. The girls were helpful, and at least they could speak English! My room (and the bathroom) was clean but it was way too small for this much people. Location is good, but there is a pub at the same house, so prepare, that it will be noisy :)

  • 5/5 R K. 3 years ago on Google
A very nice stay! The hostel is like no other, every day, there's a new group activity set up by the staff and a chance for you to meet new people staying within your hostel. They even get a nighttime activity planned, which includes visiting landmarks and nights out with free entry into popular clubs included within your stay.

Good hostel, placed in a quiet area not so far from the Rambla and the city center.
