Authentic Bengali Cuisine !!!!! Bengali food is one cuisine which would suit any taste bud. Its light on stomach & heavy on flavours, which will make you crave for it again & again. The list of delicacies in Bengali cuisine are across boundaries. On our recent trip to Shantiniketan , we planned to pay a visit to "Borishaler Ranna Ghar" on 31 Dec 2021 for lunch, which is quite famous for its Bengali food. It was approximately 15 kms from Goalpara where we were staying put. The visit was definitely worth it & we thoroughly enjoyed our food here. Heres what we ordered :- 1. Veg Thali : Comprised of Plain Rice, Ghee, Dal, Shukhto (made of veggies including Bitter Gourd, Raw Banana, Pumpkin, Potatoe, Masala Vadi), Dhokar Dalna (made of potatoes & cubes made of Chana Dal), Tomato Chutney, Aalo Bhaja (thin strips of Potatoe deep fried). Each dish was a treat in itself. The thali was sumptuous & Shukhto & Dhokar Dalna was full of flavours. Food was very light on stomach, but no compromise on taste there. 2. Mutton Kasha : A preparation of Mutton which is dry in texture. The dish was extremely flavouful. The mutton was very tender & cooked perfectly. Delicious indeed. 3. Bhetki Paturi : A variety of fish named "Bhetki" fillets prepared with mustard & other condiments & wrapped in Banana Leaf, which is then steamed. Unique flavours & tasty enough. The Ambience too was nice & dinky. The owners have made an endeavour to give the restaurant a village touch, with the dining hall replicating a mud house with rural paintings on the wall & thatched roof on the ceiling. It was pretty pleasant. A special mention of the service. Only ladies serve here. We were being served by a lady named "Tulsi" who was so congenial & warm. She made sure that our bellies are filled to the brim. Excellent hospitality. Loved the service here. They have displayed few local artefacts & other items on sale just outside the dining hall, which the ladies would love to shop on. There's a Sweets counter as well, which sells Bengali Sweets. Since, our stomachs were already spilling, we were not in a position to try the sweets. Overall a memorable experience. Since we went on 31st Dec, it was slightly crowded & hence, there was a waiting period. Do visit here. Its strongly recommended. Hope the review helps. Regards

Quality of the food is very good. It's is bit far from main city. You have to call and pre book the food items and timing. But it's totally worth it. Price is reasonable. Service is good. Village atmosphere. Newly started AC seating is also available by paying extra Rs.10 for each person. Recommend.

I had a mixed experience here. We reached this place at 2 PM on a Sunday. Apart from Mutton, 1 plate of chicken and 2 plates of Desi chicken was left, all other non veg items like prawns and all categories of fish were not available. The Veg Thali was moderate, Mutton was excellent. Well cooked and good quality Mutton. The behavior of the staffs were okayish. A significant delay was observed in serving the food. It's located far away from Bolpur. Frankly I am not going so far again for this quality of food.

A good rural style restaurant situated amidst greenery is worth a try. You need to book early and might need to wait for quite sometime. But, the wait is worth it. The food served on shal patar thala is lipsmacking. And please don't miss the ghee and pithe(in winter). You will remember the taste for long and would surely love to get back. The little stall in the 'uthon' will give you a chance to do a bit of shopping if you want.

If there is a option of negative rating, I would choose that option. We have ordered Veg thali, Posto Bora, Chingri, Egg kosha well in advance on 02.12.23 for our lunch on 03.12.23. When we reached around 3.10pm, we have to pay for the food in advance. Then we seated in a table and waited for our food for 30 minutes. After that they told us we have to wait 20-30 minutes more as they have no rice left and they will again start to prepare rice!!!!!!!! They didn't have posto bora and Chingri also!!!!! Then we had cancel our food order and leave the restaurant around 3.50pm. From the incident we have realized few things about this restaurant----- 1. Don't book your food well in advance because that doesn't guarantee your food will be served by the restaurant. 2. There is a total mismanagement and chaos at weekend. People are generally visited BANALAKSHMI first which is famous for their food , but when they heard that without advance booking a day earlier food can not be served, they rushed to nearby option available Barishaler Rannaghar which accept to serve food without knowing their capacity and quantity of food they have cooked!!!!! Which resulting harassment of people. BANALAKSHMI is far better food & well management system. You have to book your meal a day earlier or even on morning of the same day. Food prices are also lesser in Banalakshmi. So try to avoid Barishaler Rannaghar for your lunch because they can spoil your trip!!!

This place has become the nightmare for any tourist. All the authenticity and novelty are gone... it's now become a fully money making machine. The rates are on the higher side and the food is on the inferior. They don't even serve water ..instead charge for a bottle of water beforehand while booking, without even asking the customer if they need it or not. Disgusting!!!

Heard very good reviews about the property. But not satisfied with food quality & taste. Quality of rice which didn't like at all. Price is moderate compare to other restaurants. Car parking available.

Very Authentic Bengali Home Style food The restaurant could be mistaken for a residence as it does not have any signage that announces its presence. It is a very Humble and Homely styled restaurant with very basic furniture. The structure is made out of mud and bricks and roof is made of of Tin. The inner side of the roof is lined with dry crops. There are hand drawn paintings as the only decor in the place. The food is served in simple plates and there is not much of fuss created with cutlery. Then what makes this place interesting is the Exquisite taste. It has gained popularity by jsut word of mouth publicity and there are times when you may have to wait for an hour to be accomdated. They serve fish, chicken , mutton and Vegetarian dishes. There are also some very traditional sweet dishes that are served. Felt very happy to be here.

The best bengali cuisine served at Borishaler rannaghar which is just 15mins drive from bolpur Shantiniketan. We need to prebook the menu and pay once we are there. The must try dishes are postor bora, ilish, mutton, chingri and kheer patishapta. The food is overpriced but the taste and quality is top notch. Parking place is available. Once you are there don't forget to buy ghee from Banalakshmi which is adjacent.

The most overhyped place. It seems like they have paid enough to the YouTube hosts to hype this place. The food and the ambience is below average and is god damn 9km away from Shantobitan. We had ordered for 3 thalis, a plate of mutton, a plate of katla, fish paturi and postor bora. All of them were below average and a total waste of money, energy and time. (Also note that there’s mobile network issue as well. I will not recommend anybody. B.S!

Good friendly staff. Village ambiance. Clean and hygienic. Food taste and quality is just awesome. All food served hot. Overall, a must visit when in Bolpur. I had ordered 2 veg thali with 2 plates of chicken and one plate of chingri. Cost me Rs. 820. So I would say that the food is decently priced, nothing out of the ordinary. Portions and quantity is a good. Very satisfying. The only drawback is that they are open only for lunch. No dinner

Food is good. Especially the fish 🐟 preparations. Don't go for mutton as it's overhyped. My recommendation is posto bora which is something really amazing over here. 😍 They need to do something for the dogs 🐕 as they roam around near the area.

Pathetic experience!! We shall never go again. We were forced to take two veg thalis in spite of repeated requesting that we two won’t be able to eat that much. On top of that I don’t take veg food. Fish was good though the cooking style was average. Mutton was so miserable that we couldn’t eat. Our kitchen at home delivers far better quality than this. All the pieces were full of bones and skin fats, inedible at all. Even the veg preparations were not served at full quantity, served only when it was asked for. We had to sit for half an hour with only rice and daal before we were served with other items, even the veg. Extremely poor management and lack of flexibility ensured that we don’t go back.

I would say one of the best place to have your lunch. It's a bit far away from the main bolpur market. The taste is very authentic, you won't regret the miles you travel. Most important is you need to place your order in the morning itself. Whatever you wish to eat you can place the order early. If you directly visit the place most likely you won't get all the items, as they prepare items as per the order.

We went for Lunch on 13th Aug. Knowing there would be huge rush , I booked the menu before hand. We ordered Veg Meal , Mutton Curry , Pabda Fish and Payesh . Waiting time was around 30 min. We went to the AC part of the resturants and food was awesome. Th veg thali included Rice , dal , jhuri Alu Bhaja , Shukto , Dhokar Dalna , chatnee and papad. You can get 2nd serving as well. Mutton curry was having great taste , it was juicy and bit spicy . It is bit far off from the city. However you should try the food here. It is opened from 1 PM till 4:30 PM and if you don't pre book your lunch then you may not get all the menu items available.

Long post alert!! We went there with 5 members and a 6m infant. We waited for more than 45mins, during this time my baby started crying so on our turn requested them to allow 3 of us and me and my husband will have food later. We were blatantly told that these requests cannot be entertained and we have to eat together. The food we ordered was Veg Thali - Dal,alu bhaja, sukto, dhokar dalna Bhetki paturi Mutton Kasha. To our surprise the food was horrible. The dal served only had water in it ,with no sign of pulses in it. They offered dal and alu bhaja first. Then came ghee and sukto. Bengalis usually have sukto first!! They claim paturi to be of bhetki but it was some other fish. The dhokar dalna was the worst of its kind nd immensely hot nd spicey..it was difficult to have it even in small quantity. The mutton was undercooked and rough. The rice used was far from basmati but local ration quality were used. Overall we could not eat even half of it. The food was horrible, worst of its kind. The staff were rude, unpolite. The place is overly hyped. There are couple of homestay nd resorts just on the same road of this hyped place, which serves amazing dishes. Please refrain from visiting barishaler rannaghar who runs business with insensitive rude people and horrible, under quality food.

Food was awesome and the price was reasonable.veg thali 150/- consists of rice, dal, alibhaja, echor, chutney, papad, rosogolla. Additionally vetki paturi - fish quality was fresh, chingri malaicurry - fresh and gravy was tasty, finally mutton - perfect kosha, not very thick gravy, properly boiled, juicy. Pticewise - paturi -300/-, mutton -220/-(4 pc), chingri -350/-(2 pc)..quick service. Overall highly recommended.

The restaurant is located at the outskirt of Bolpur. Vehicle parking area is enough. Decorum of the restaurant is typical bengali style. Quality of food served here are awesome and tasteful. You'll find the major bengali cuisine as a menu here. Behaviour of the staffs are decent enough. But the management is quite worse. The restaurant become full of customers on the weekend and holidays. So, better you come here on working day if you want to taste the food peacefully or you reserve your launch by ordering over phone. Although they have another restaurant just opposite their plot.

Food was tasty but quantity wise it is very overpriced, the simple veg thali costs ₹160 which basically gives you items worth of only ₹80. The desi chicken plate consists just 2 pieces and they charge you ₹220 which is highly overpriced. Taste and quality were very good although and the service was also good.

If there was an option to rate it higher than 5 star I would have rated that. The food is extra ordinarily good. The cooking is done by ladies and the management too. Highly recommend.

Food were good but the way it's been served were not good at all. Communication gap was there. We didn't get Hilsa but people who came after us got Hilsa after they faught. Overall very poor experience. Few people were good but one man who was serving was very rude, didn't have time to listen to customer and behave poorly.

Used to be an excellent place, with food quality much better than Bonolakhhi. So much so, that we used to have our consecutive lunches there whenver we were in Santiniketan. However this time found the quality has gone down appreciably, and hospitality is nowwhere near what used to be. Hope it turns back to be better next time.

Treat your taste buds with authentic food from Barishal, Bangladesh in this quaint little eatery at shantiniketan. Fantastic food. Awesome ambience. Lacks the pomp of a modern day eatery. It is like having a lunch at home, prepared by mom. That for me is the stand out. The fish are exceptionally well prepared and is freshly cooked. So is the chicken curry. The veg thali is just awesome. You have to order ahead to avail mouth watering dishes at reasonable price. Try out the lonka bata. It's a must.

It is an excellent place to have lunch if you are staying in Santiniketan for a couple of days. The place is located in Ramnagar, around 12 kms from Santiniketan near Illambazar. They serve authentic Bengali thalis alongwith mouthwatering fish, mutton and chicken preparations of your choice. Remember that you have to order your meals one day in advance. There is a small boutique shop adjacent to the dining room which sells traditional items of Birbhum. Authentic Bengali Ghee, Patali guur (jaggery), Bori, Honey, Incense sticks are also available.

Things that you'll like: 1. Clean and hygienic environment (tables, cutlery) 2. Well cooked food with unlimited servings on Thali items 3. Not too oily food and not too rich to have 4. Fast and responsive service 5. Similarly priced along with it's peers 6. Homely environment 7. You don't need to prebook to avail food Things that needs improvement: 1. Hardly anything to mention here. But it's hard to find out, so better direction arrows and billboard would help
