Over the past weekend, I had the opportunity to explore La Sonajhuri, an exquisite destination. My experience was marked by a profound sense of admiration for its scenic beauty and captivating ambiance. It was with considerable astonishment that I came across a handful of unfavorable reviews concerning this establishment. During my visit, I had the privilege of engaging with the proprietor, a gentleman whose demeanor exuded refinement and sophistication. His distinguished background is punctuated by a lengthy tenure in Silicon Valley, California, spanning over four decades, which bespeaks his wealth of experience and erudition. Regrettably, the establishment's reputation has been inadvertently marred due to a series of unfavorable feedback. One pivotal aspect contributing to this predicament pertains to the recent displacement of the managerial personnel, a development that transpired approximately four months ago. The pervasive presence of the former manager's contact details, even prominently displayed on prominent platforms such as Google's official website, has inadvertently led to a state of disarray. The establishment's online presence is entangled in a labyrinthine configuration, resulting in a notable deterioration of its digital assets and resources. In summation, my visit to La Sonajhuri left an indelible impression of its intrinsic charm. However, the disconcerting feedback and operational challenges encountered underscore the exigency for a strategic realignment, particularly concerning its digital representation and administrative facets. I recommend everyone to call the number from the resort's website!

Over hyped and over priced. Rooms a not too spacious. There is no definite booking system. Service is very poor. Dinner was served at 11.45pm. There is not coordination. Complementary breakfast was not properly served.

I had booked over the phone. What I did not know was that there are rooms that face the lawn and there are others that face the extension building now under construction. These were rooms on the second floor falling to your left as you walked in a corridor. The rooms to the right had windows opening out with a better view. However, our rooms were better in the sense that they were more spacious, one of them could be converted to a 3 bedded one without any inconvenience. The food is generally good, BF being complimentary. There was apparently a lack of communication between the person who took our booking call and the person at the front desk resulting in some initial confusion though we had booked almost about a fortnight before our scheduled arrival. We rented a car from Kolkata to Santiniketan. The car was parked just outside the hotel in a parking space meant for guests of the hotel. There was provision of night stay of the driver in the hotel dormitory. The Sonajhuri Mela region was about 4 minutes away. The service was ok but the rooms had no intercom to call for service. But morning tea was served in the rooms in cups from flasks carried by their staff. We arrived late as the railway gate between Burdwan and Ghuskura remained closed to road traffic for a very long time as trains passed on a very busy route. Though lunch time was over, they cooked lunch for us. Here also there was a lack of communication. However the overall experience was good.

LA Sonajhuri Resort is located at the very end of Sonajhuri, boasting an expansive and beautifully decorated property on the outside with ample parking space. However, my stay from September 9th to September 10th, 2023, did not live up to my expectations. Despite having visited Sonajhuri on four occasions, including this one, I had never encountered such a disappointing experience before. It was particularly disheartening to have brought friends along and faced such a situation. Let me summarize my overall experience. The resort features an impressive exterior and a spacious property. Unfortunately, the interior did not match up. The rooms were quite basic and lacked cleanliness. Notably, the TV and internet did not work, and the cabinets had no locks. Additionally, the positioning of the AC was inconveniently far from the bed. The absence of toiletry kits meant guests had to provide their own. On a positive note, the toilets were clean and functional. However, ongoing construction work generated disruptive noise from early morning, making it difficult to sleep. One significant issue was the strict policy against bringing outside food. When we declined the hotel's lunch offer to dine at Shakuntala, a preferred choice in Sonajhuri, we decided to bring some light snacks for dinner as were full with the heavy late lunch, such as MOMOs and chips, not available in the hotel's kitchen. To our surprise, we were stopped by hotel staff upon returning to the property, with the assertion that outside food was prohibited. This rule had never been communicated to us during booking or check-in, and the food we brought was not part of the hotel's menu. The manager's attitude was confrontational, necessitating a call to the owner to resolve the situation. At one point, it felt like a threatening situation as multiple hotel staff members gathered, exhibiting intimidating body language. Manager's remarks (in Bengali): The language of manager(In bengali): "Apni kano jigesh koren ni j bairer khabar ami allow kori kina" "Chips/Lays allowed but baki kichu allow nah" - No where mentioned Chips are allowed and MOMOs are not "Ami apnake dhukte debo nah room khabar niye ja iche kore nin" "Chaile sara raat baire bose thakun icche hole" Another inconvenience was the hotel's breakfast policy, which dictated that breakfast order would not be taken before 9 AM. This meant guests had to endure hunger until then and were not permitted to bring food from outside. The hotel staff acted as if we were unreasonable for expecting breakfast at 8 AM, despite the absence of any facility to serve us at that hour. In conclusion, if you are planning a vacation with family or friends and seek a peaceful experience, I would advise against choosing this place. LA Sonajhuri Resort may shatter your mental peace, subject you to unexpected confrontations over minor matters like bringing snacks, and result in an embarrassing situation in front of other guests,friends and family.I have been to Cristallo Resort(Situated near this resort) two times and never had to face this kind of things, It was a big mistake from my side to book this place.

This is a resort managed by fraud people. I booked 4 rooms here for one night. Just before 2 to 3 days they called and suddenly cancelled my booking saying that they lost their manager and they couldn't provide any service to us. It was a all women group trip. They all were in deep trouble. Fortunately we found availability in another resort and booked there. Surprisingly we found that La Sonajhuri Resort was all working with full of guests on that day on which our booking was done and they cancelled it. I don't know why they do this to us, may be for some more money. This is very cheap.

The manager is extremely rude and arrogant. The resort is not at all kids friendly but, they allow unmarried couples. Awesome!! We went over there over the last weekend and feltvvery much humiliated due to his(manager- Biswajit) rude and unwelcoming behavior. If ang guest speaks against the service then he uses 'slangs' and 'curse' words not just to the adults but to little children as well. Price is too high and not worth of the service or the room conditions. Total worthless and it was the worst staying experience in a resort like this.

One of the worst resort.. Worst behavior of the owner.. Never ever go to this place.. Hated this place.. Specially the manager.. Fist he said that drivers room will be for 300 then he started insulting me in front of my driver saying why can't you pay 200 rs extra to give him more comfor but when I agreed to this he again said one more driver will share the space or else I have to pay 1500 for the room.. He attacked me. One of the worst manager never ever recommend this resort to anybody if you don't want your experience to get spoiled.. If minus was an option I would have opted that rating

I went on d last weekend wid my family. It was a nice trip. Staffs behaviour in d resort was familiar.. resort ambiance was good n peaceful..food quality in d restaurant was also good n sufficient in quantity from my side .. n Sonajhuri hut is just 5-6 mins walking distance.

Recently I visited La-Sonajhuri Resort from 16th to 18th December. The Ambiance of the Resort is very beautiful , lots of greenery and space.. Food quality and quantity is very good. Rooms are little small but can be easily adjustable. Staff and Managers behaviour is so nice. Love to come again.

Yes, this hotel Location is good as near sonajhuri which attracts us the most for selection .But Rooms are not up to the mark as per the rate 2300 ... positive part is the bengali food and taste is good. But main issue is that very poor hospitality, poor management behaviour which I had never seen from any hotel ever before ...

The issue with this resort is that everyone managing this resort is inexperienced in hospitality but has huge egos. There were other guests with us. We had ordered chinese for dinner, and we did not like it. The chicken smelled old and the dinner didn't taste wholesome. Next morning I went to the reception to give feedback and the person at the reception said "Other rooms did not complain". Wow. Quite astounding. Moreover there were no sheets in our room. And this guy in the reception tells me "Why didn't you ask for it?" I told the person that when you are charging 2300 per night, the person staying will have expectations. The bare minimum you can do is also keep sheets in the room along with the towels. Some hotels look good but are not managed properly. This is one such hotel.

Mr. Kishore Chatterjee, probably the owner, has an attitude that'll make you feel that he has done a big favour and honour to you in allowing you to stay in his lousy property. He is a big fraud in a way such that he keeps a fantastic exterior of the hotel that serves as a colourful wrapping paper while the interior view of the rooms are like public toilets. He roams around the hotel premises throughout the day and teaches the guests about do's and don'ts of his property and after sunset he is under the influence of alcohol. We had booked La Sonajhuri for 22nd to 24th December. We had 4 senior citizens with us and one of them is a regular insulin taker. The learned owner is so strict that he did not hesitate to order us to leave his hotel within 15 minutes at 11:30 at night just due to some difference of opinion. Needless to mention he was fully drunk during that time. My recommendation to all will be to avoid this property at any cost. It will be a waste of money and I'm sure it's beneath as our dignity to stay with this arrogant and mindless person.

The rooms are OK, Not recommended during Summer season specially during the noon time. The roof is made of Aluminium and inside there is false ceiling which gets very much heated. AC positions is not appropriate and it doesn't cools down the room quickly. Food is very good and taste 👏. Room service is also good 👍 Suggestions to hotel owner / administration kindly change the position of the Split AC. It's not necessary to have it on top of the bed. The AC should be in a longest wall in center so that it can cool the entire room. 1 ton AC is not capable of cooling the entire room taking into condition that the roof is of Aluminium and False ceiling inside. Apart from that I found few permanent structures being developed in the front, ride side of entrance. Hope after these rooms get ready the issue with heat will come under control. During our stay there was issue with AC but it was promptly addressed and resolved 👍.

Good place to stay. Close to popular Shanibaar er Haat but far from it's chaos maintaining your privacy. Foods are good. Staffs are excellent. Owner is very cooperative. Only negative point is its approaching road.

They have renovated and the new building is quite good. Few aminities are missing,which they are implementing soon. Food quality is very good. Staff behaviour is good as well. This place has a secured parking too.

Rooms were clean & big but not well maintained. So were bathrooms. Very pricey as per other hotels. Location is good, because it is near Sonajhuri haat. The main problem is Owner & the staffs' behaviour towards customer. Service is very poor. They misbehaved with us & used fowl language because we forgot to pay only Rs 60/- for packaged drinking water.

I will share you the detailed experience. Pros: Only thing is the location. It is 2min walk from sonakhuri hat the main attraction of shantiniketan Food is good but costly Cons: Service. The worst part. We had requested to provide us for barbeque but it was horrible experience and after complaining also they did not bother Manager Behaviour is very bad. We had requested for 1hour extension as we had our train late but this is the first time where we did not get a 5min extension to use the washroom. Everything we asked for any service they are charging money and that's not acceptable. Overall it was very bad experience staying in this resort when we are paying a lot for per day

For the exorbitant charges of 2300, the service is pathetic. No toiletries provided, no bed sheets, 1 tonne ac does not cool room with aluminium roof, food average and limited menu, breakfast option is also very limited, water is charged, manager (Biswajit) and owner (Kishore Chatterjee) behavior is as if they do people a favor by letting them inside their resort. People are paying and need to be served. That attitude to serve the customer or make it a memorable stay is totally missing. So this resort is best avoided. There are much better resorts.

It was a sudden trip to Shantiniketan and luckily enough, we got a room in this lovely resort set amidst the Sonajhuri forest on the outskirts of Shantiniketan. We had booked the room for 3 nights, and we were totally satisfied. The ambience is awesome, since the only thing you hear is the call of the birds. That will wake you up in the morning. If you are a quiet loving or nature loving, you will love this place. You can take a book and just sit under a sitting place, made of wood and hay, and just laze out the afternoons. The food is love. You might get a bengali thali, and you may also get western dishes like stew. You will also find Chinese dishes in the restaurant. You will be served tea in little earthen pots that art lovers can keep for future use. If you come on the weekdays rather than on the weekends, you will hear nothing but birds in the mornings and afternoons, and crickets in the evenings and nights. This place is very near to the Sonajhuri Haat, which happens on all days in the afternoons, and starts from the morning on Saturdays. There is also the Sonajhuri forest, which is a good place for taking photos. On special occasions, you may ask Biswajit Da, to organise a Baul Song evening in one of the evenings. It is worth staying in this Resort for some time just to relax, unwind and get oxygen for a break from the hectic city life. Also worth mentioning are the help of the Resort, led by Sourav, a lad of around 19-20 years of age, will take care of your every need. If you have any problem, just ask them and they will fulfill it with a smile. Just one small request to all in the end, there are a lot of dustbins all over, so kindly throw your trash in them, and not all over the place. That just shows your taste, and not class.

We stayed in La Sonajhuri during last Puja from 23rd to 26th Oct. If you like a quick break from city life then this is a must go place..The hospitality of every one was amazing. The food was excellent. The reshmi kabab blew my mind. Mr.Biswajit arranged for fish Fry as well (though we had an advance request). He was very humble, very cordial and very helpful Arranged for a Baul performance for us on Nabami night which was excellent. The staffs took great care of us with a smile always. I would definitely recommend this place.

We had a great and lovely experience staying in this place. We went there on 22nd feb 2020 to spend our 1st year marraige anniversary weekend. The room as well as the bathroom was clean. The staffs are very well behaved. Mr.Biswajit Paul had arranged for a Baul performance that Saturday evening. The snacks and dinner served was in buffet for all the guests staying there that night. We opted for food+room package. Wish to visit Shantiniketan again and stay in this place which is very near to the Sonajhuri Haat.

Staff was good. Food was okay. Location is nice. Rooms were clean. BUT A HUGE DRAWBACK IS THE MANAGER. HE IS VERY RUDE. HE MIGHT CALL YOU AT NIGHT 3 AM AND ASK YOU TO SLEEP EVEN IF U ARE JUST CHATTING WITH YOUR FRIENDS :/

Amar kuthir is a shop located on the banks of the Kopai River in Shantiniketan, Bolpur. It is a cooperative society for the promotion of arts and crafts. Attractive products made of kantha stitch, leather, pottery, dhokra, wood and cane are available here at very reasonable prices. A must visit for local handicrafts.

You get to see the making of leather items at the factory, making of batik items as well. The place has a nice restaurant called "Hensel Ghar" which serves traditional delicacies. And while going to the store, you need to cross a red soil road (ranga matir poth) which is a beautiful experience of Shantiniketan.

The road this resort can be challenging during monsoon but once you make it, it's quite pleasant with great food and friendly people.

A beautiful place to stay and amazing food especially our Bengali thali with Mutton curry and breakfast with luchi and sabji I personally liked it a lot. We ordered Chinese at night and the cool thing is Chinese served as expected with a touch of Bengal. So don't judge it's taste good and quantity is enough for two. Fish curry little disappointing but I guess that is for quick service. Location: Just 3-4 mints walking distance from Sonajhuri haat. Rooms: Not that fancy rooms normal rooms with almost required items. But don't forget to carry a brush and paste or if you are a coffee lover they don't provide any kettle inside the room. You have to carry yours. Distance from Bolpur station: It's almost 6km from Bolpur station in a toto it will take 20mints to reach Bolpur station if roads are clear. Overall a great experience for me and my wife staying in the resort. Staff is very well behaved but that varies upon opposite side attitude toward them as well. For me, I got a very friendly welcome well-behaved behavior from all the staff.

The rooms are shoddy even though from the outside they look great. It is certainly very pricey. The food quality was good but again much costlier than other places. The worst part was that they even demanded that the bottled water in the rooms be charged!! This was unusual as hotels generally provide one or two bottles of water as complimentary and charge only when extra is requested. Overall the staff was friendly but the rooms were just too bad.

Just few minutes age i called sonajhuri resort number which is mentioned in Google to know about the accommodation and want to know about pre weekding photoshoot,,. Also about the lunch but the concern person was so rude and cut the phone telling me that he allready read my mind ... And what type of mentality I have.... It's is so bad experience for the first time for me... Never expected...

Only the food was good.Stay is pathetic.Service is pathetic.No basic amenities provided.. AC was not working..No intercom..fine even if intercom is not available the numbers provided should be workable..but no1 was available..the host is rude..pathetic experience ..I fell ill for the conditions..Also when I wanted food the manager was literally like "12ta nagad ke breakfast kore" and he didn't even care to take the order...few things can be considered,but misbehaviour cannot be..

Very rude mannered manager pretending to be very gentle. After spending time one can realise the flaws and problems in different respects.

Nice atmosphere, staff behaviour is good, nice garden and food quality is nice.

Perfect for people who are looking for a quite and cozy stay in shantiniketan away from general humdrum. Really beautiful property, top-notch in maintenance and cleanliness, delicious food and extremely helpful staff.

Neat and cleaned hotel. Service is very good. Location is near Sonajhurihat. Resturant also good. No water purifier provided in the hotel. But purified 20 litrs jar water is available. Staff are very good.

Rooms- over priced , not up to the mark as per price. Service- nothing special. No such entertainment facilities found there.miss guided to clients. Not even clean the rooms and bathroom next day. Location- Interior but nearby to Sonajhuri haat Food- so so.. but definitely over priced with respect to quality and quantity. Overall- outside the room, the campus is too good and fully decorative.

Do not get carried away by the pictures of the resort. Manager does not care about customer comfort. After booking this hotel, it spoiled our most excited trip and the image of Shantiniketan.

Very good resort to hang out with friends and family, if you can ignore little blemishes in the rooms. Service is excellent. Garden is beautiful. Loved the stay.

Short Review of La Shonajhuri Resort - Shantiniketan La Shonajhuri located at Sonajhuri Shantiniketan , is a very unique resort I have come across . Not only It boasts to have more than 50 well maintained rooms with a sprawling lawn , neat and clean ambience, very well behaved and equally helpful staffs, it provides some extra which any guest will agree. Entering the resort one will get mesmerised by the colourful flowers lined up and welcoming each guest and the beautiful melodies of Tagore at the background, but it is more surprising to know that all staffs and members are involved in growing up and maintaining the flowers which shows a rare cohesiveness among staffs and management which is a rare example now a days. Rooms are neat and clean with ample ventilation and light , washrooms are maintained and most importantly one will experience a positive vibes as soon as he enters the room. Foods are very delicious and tasty which is served in a spacious, well-lit dining room and served by friendly staffs who are there always to help and cater the needs of individual customer. In the entire resort and in every nook and corner one will feel the essence of cleanliness and proper maintenance. The small pond where ducks play is also maintained in a very proper manner on regular basis. Having lots of trees and greeneries in the resort , there are special trees in the property like Raktachandan and more which needs special mention. In the night the Resort takes a glamorous look with all lights lit and one would feel and understand its another side of beauty which is too good. One aspect of the resort really drew my attention and that is fossil of pieces of trees trunks which turned into stone and the process takes at least 50 K years for the transformation. Seven such masterpieces are kept in the entrance which itself tells us the artistic taste of the person who took extraordinary venture to collect the same from different parts in and around Birbhum. LA Shonajhuri , is a venture of a NRI who loves his country to the core and is different from others. The statuette of tagore with a caption “ LOVE YOU BOSS “ is very interesting. Three idols of Shri Ramkrihna Parmhansadeb , Shri Sharada Maa and Swami Vivekananda kept at the entrance needs special mention. The resort in every aspect is special and more special because it has brain and artistic sence in all minutest detail which is rarely seen. The resort is in itself falls under different category which is beyond conventional star rating as one would feel that it is a home with style and proper sense of art with deep rooted respect towards our culture and tradition. LA shonajhuri in Bolpur is a perfect match with the background and ambience of Bolpur and it is worth to experience the stay in the resort in the land of Tagore. Stayed in the Resort from 23rd Jan to 25th Jan 2023.

Finding out a stay during the vacation at Shantiniketan was not tough as my family members (Mother and wife) had done lots of research in youtube. Then we found the address of La-Sonajhuri Resort. We decided to stay there on the 1st interaction with the owner(Mr. Kishore Chatterjee) over phone. After reaching there we realized that our decision was not wrong. We wanted a homely environment, no compromise with that, and we were satisfied. Food quality is upto the mark. Staffs were very helpful, caring and humble. They took proper care of my Mother, Mother-in-law and specially my kid. Ambiance is too good which we were looking for. Thanks Mr. Chatterjee for providing us the wonderful and memorable experience during our stay from 23rd Oct'23 to 25th Oct'23. We would wish to visit you again!!! Thanks.

We spent a very quality time while our stay at La Sonajhuri Resort which is situated amidst the greenery of Sonajhuri forest. The 'shonibarer haat' is within the walking distance and the resort has a quite good and soothing ambiance. Rooms were quite good and maintained. Even room service was good. We also enjoyed the food there during our stay. In totality we had a very very nice stay at La Sonajhuri. Thanks to manager and all staff for his excellent cooperation during our stay over there.

In nutshell , the hotel is not good. Hotel owner is arrogant. Room Photos in the website are FAKE. The rooms were very small and not well equipped. Our stay from December,2023 was ruined, while clearly owner was drunk. He misbehaved over minor disagreement and ruined our stay in Shantiniketan. The hotel is unreasonably expensive, and dealing with the owner's arrogance feels like we're lowering ourselves. Positive reviews are likely from biased sources (mostly from his own people). This place is not worth the money or the hype —better to stay away. Again , the room photos in the website are FAKE. Please be careful.
