The
house
is
breathtakingly
beautiful
at
the
first
view,
when
the
car
stops
at
the
gates
of
Aparajita.
On
a
quiet
road,
tucked
away
in
Purbapally,
in
the
heart
of
Santiniketan,
this
homestay
offers
a
peaceful
getaway
and
yet
a
fantastic
location
in
the
heart
of
Santiniketan.
From
there,
it
only
goes
downhill.
Extremely
rude
and
unhelpful
staff
stood
by
while
we
ourselves
carried
our
luggage
out
of
the
cars
into
our
respective
rooms.
We
arrived
at
around
12.30
pm
and
were
discourteously
refused
to
be
served
any
lunch.
We
had
3
very
senior
citizens
with
us,
and
rather
than
venture
out
again,
we
requested
them
to
at
least
prepare
rice,
dal
and
alu
bhaja,
which
one
assumes
is
always
available
in
any
kitchen,
even
upon
the
shortest
notice.
But
we
were
flatly
refused,
saying
that
it
was
our
fault
that
we
had
not
informed
them
about
lunch
in
advance.
Here,
I
feel
the
owners/booking
agents
are
at
fault,
as
we
were
never
told
that
we
need
to
give
prior
notice
for
lunch.
In
any
event,
the
caretaker
Gopal's
wife
was
cooking
in
the
kitchen
when
we
requested
and
yet
it
was
refused.
Ultimately,
we
had
no
option
but
to
go
out
again,
taking
the
elderly
with
us,
and
look
for
lunch
elsewhere.
I
happened
to
request,
immediately
upon
check
in,
for
soap,
as
there
was
no
soap
provided
in
my
bathroom.
Mrs.
Caretaker,
rather
than
provide
me
with
soap,
made
a
big
show
of
disbelieving
me
and
actually
said
that
she
will
give
me
the
soap
only
after
checking
whether
one
has
been
provided
or
not!
This
really
left
a
bitter
taste
in
the
mouth,
as
we
are
hardly
likely
to
lie
about
a
small
Rs.
2/-
bar
of
soap,
which
in
any
event,
is
unlikely
to
suffice
for
2
pax
x
2
nights.
Forget
2
soaps
-
one
for
handwash
and
one
for
bath
-
such
a
fuss
was
created
for
providing
a
single
tiny
bar
of
soap!
Thank
goodness
I
had
carried
my
own
soap,
so
I
was
spared
the
ignominy
of
begging
for
a
second
one
on
the
next
day!
As
if
this
was
not
enough,
when
I
said
the
AC
is
not
working,
I
was
asked
to
explain
by
Mr.
Caretaker,
as
to
why
the
remote
was
not
in
its
place!
This
was
really
a
limit
and
I
had
no
choice
but
to
engage
in
a
war
of
words
with
this
person.
Ultimately,
a
mechanic
had
to
be
called
and
the
AC
was
made
to
start
working,
but
the
remote
was
never
found.
By
this
time,
needless
to
say,
our
entire
holiday
mood
was
totally
destroyed
and
we
could
never
really
relax
and
have
as
good
a
time
as
we
had
looked
forward
to.
In
the
evening
when
one
of
the
elderly
asked
if
tea/
coffee
would
be
available,
the
immediate
response
was
Rs.
10/-
per
cup!!
This
attitude
stinks!!!!
Rooms
appeared
to
be
clean
at
check
in,
but
the
bathrooms
were
not
cleaned
properly.
There
were
pink
stains
on
the
bathroom
marble
floor
(after
holi
the
previous
day),
hair
on
the
taps
and
towel
racks
and
in
the
drain,
dirt
around
the
washbasin
taps.
The
rooms
looked
clean,
but
after
seeing
the
bathrooms,
I
was
no
longer
sure
whether
the
sheets
had
been
changed
after
the
previous
occupants
left.
Towels
were
provided
and
were
dry,
but
mine
was
torn.
I
didn't
want
to
show
it
to
the
caretaker
couple
-
I
may
have
got
blamed
for
that,
like
the
AC
remote.
The
rooms
were
swept
the
next
day,
but
then,
the
medicine
cover
shells
in
our
dustbins
were
found
to
have
been
thrown
out
on
the
open
terrace
on
the
first
floor!
Food,
when
provided,
tasted
good.
Again
at
the
end
of
our
stay,
the
caretaker
couple
simply
stood
around
watching,
while
we
ourselves
brought
the
luggage
out
and
loaded
our
respective
vehicles.
They
bid
us
goodbye
without
so
much
as
a
"Abar
ashben"
(come
again).
Which
is
just
as
well,
because
I
have
absolutely
no
intentions
of
ever
staying
at
Aparajita
again.
