This landmark is popularly called as Carzon Gate, in the name of Lord Carzon. The Gate is located in the heart of the city and Bijoy Toron means the victory gate! Lighting at night make it look more beautiful. It has been well maintained and a must see structure whenever you are in Bardhaman.

One of the greatest architectures in Burdwan district. Maharaja Bijay Chand gifted this to the viceroy Lord Curzon. This is a place with full of traffic, lots of shops of various items, fooding outlets and groceries. Lassi of Ramprasad is very famous all over the town. That is exactly under the corner of this gate. Previously known as Curzon gate, local governing body renamed it as Bijay Toron in honor of Maharaja Bijay Chand. A must visit place in town Burdwan.

Located at the crossing of Bijoy Chand Road and Grand Trunk Road, it was built in 1902/1903, on the occasion of the coronation of Maharaja Bijay Chand Mahatab  as ruler of the Burdwan Raj. The former royal palace is located 1 km from the gate. The pomp and grandeur of Load Curzon's visit to Bardhaman in 1904 established the name of the gate as Curzon Gate. The gate arch is supported by eight circular columns. Three female figurines, with swords, boats, and sheaves of corn in their hands, on the arch signify progress in agriculture and commerce. There are twenty-one circles with twenty-one illustrations at the top portion of the gate. Due to presence of stars in the gate it was named as 'Star Of India' gate at the of inauguration. The structure was constructed by masons from Italy. After the Bardhaman Raj was incorporated into the newly independent India, the gate was referred to as Bijoy Toran, but it is still popularly known as Curzon Gate, with the Bengali pronunciation – Karjon Gate. Since 1974, the gate has been maintained by the Public Works Department of the Government of West Bengal.

✨The Curzon Gate is a prominent landmark in Bardhaman.Located at the crossing of Bijoy Chand Road and Grand Trunk Road, it was built around 1900, on the occasion of the coronation of Maharaja Bijay Chand Mahatab as ruler of the Bardhaman Raj. In honour of the viceroy the gate was named as Curzon Gate and was reffered as the Star of India. . . . . ✨Today the Curzon Gate is heavily encroached upon, with buildings barely inches away. Goods from the nearby shops are piled up at the base making the beautiful stucco work almost invisible. A mesh of wires and traffic kiosk makes photography extremely difficult. The Curzon Gate is beautifully light up during evening providing creating a grand spectacle. Heavy traffic flow almost at any time of the day makes this one of the busiest places of burdwan.

The Curzon Gate most iconic landmark of the historic town of Bradhaman, it welcomes visitors entering the town from the Grand Trunk Road (GT Road). The gate was constructed to celebrate the coronation of the king of Bardhaman Maharaja Bijay Chand Mahatab in 1902. Lord Curzon (George Nathaniel Curzon), the then Viceroy of India was invited to inaugurate the ceremonial gateway on March 1904. In honour of the viceroy the gate was named as Curzon Gate and was refereed as the Star of India. Later after independence the gate was renamed as Bijoy Torn (বিজয় তোরন), literally meaning gate of victory, but the old name stuck. The gate consists of a giant archway topped with colonial styled statues. The main arch is flanked on either sides by minor arches topped with lion statues.

It's so good The gate was built so long ago around 1902... And named after it's founder the former king 👑 maharaja Sri Bijoychand Mahatab. It's also known as the Curzon gate. This is the landmark of burdwan or you can say the heart ❤️ of burdwan. Located on the crossing of BC road and grand trunk road. I visited on weekdays so it was as usual a bit busy. The lights at night are tremendous. The streetlight during Christmas ⛄, and other times with a bit blue 💙 were looking good back then. Many stores are there with obviously many stories and many people living the lives of a story. At last to summarise, it was a great experience

The monument is well maintained. The most popular landmark of the Burdwan town. And that's about it. The area around is not that scenic with all the dirt and random advertisement/ political hoardings. The shops, buildings and cables around ruin the view but I suppose people need space to stay and to conduct business. The traffic police try their best to maintain traffic around the area, but most of the time it's a hot mess. I just wish people were more disciplined, didn't spit in various colors and textures on the road/walls and the govt focused a bit more on improving the scenic nature of the ancient art and architecture around the town. For those who want to visit this place from outside, plan your parking and know that it's just a huge but good looking gate. There is no need to buy tickets. It's free for all and the area around is teeming with big and small shops of all kinds.

Curzon Gate is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Burdwan and this historical monument is located at the very centre of the town at the meeting point of the Grand Trunk Road and B.C. Road. Erected in the year 1903, the resplendent and imposing structure of the Curzon Gate was erected upon the orders of the King of Burdwan, Maharaja Bijoy Chand Mahtab to greet and receive Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy of Bengal at the entrance of the town of Burdwan. The monument was named thus in Lord Curzons honour and is also known as both Vijay Toran in Hindi and Bijoy Toron in Bangla. Curzon Gate was built following the architectural design of the Gateway of India in Mumbai in Maharashtra and was worked on by an Italian sculptor. The pillars of the gate and the sculptures of the lions on the sides, the cornice, the three fairies at the top and the decorations which are gradually wearing away are one of the finest examples of sculpting. The former name of the gate was the Star of India which was later changed. Tourists who visit the gate are fascinated by the spellbinding architecture of the monument that is prominently visible in the two side arches as well as in the main arch of the gate. The Royal Palace, wherein the kings and the queens resided is at a mere distance of one kilometre from the gate. A beautiful painting of the memorial was done by A.F. Hugh and was gifted to the citizens of Barddhaman

It is a very good looking architecture but the joke is that earlier the name of it was "Curzon Gate" but later the name was changed to "Bijay Toran". Recently the statues of erstwhile King and Queen were setup in front of the gate. But how can you change the history. Only people with bird brain can think of that.
