This place is near to Mainamiti Regiment, Cumilla. It's a graveyard of second-world ware. Maximum buried people are Christian. Seven hundred thirty-seven people’s graves are there. The area is neat and clean. There are some centennial "Krrishnachira" trees. Besides, the authority plants different floral trees throughout the year and nurtures them. So, the area looks pretty.

This war mausoleum is around 7-9 kilometers away from the city. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission formed the graveyard and is in charge of it now. No entry fee. There are 737 graves in the cemetery. There are inscriptions on the grave that show their names, dates of birth, and deaths. This location is well-kept. A variety of floral flowers have been planted. It was a peaceful experience. There are several "Krishnachura" trees that are over a century old. One can take pictures and enjoy the wonderful surroundings. You can go with family and friends but should maintain silence. No washroom and no smoking zone. Children can go and play. Has wheelchair access. Parking is available. To visit this place, take rickshaw from Comilla Sadar and come to West Forezpur. Cemetery is open now on it's regular time, 7 am to 12am & 2pm to 5pm. An annual prayer meeting is conducted here every November. One can attend that as well. Shalban Bihar, Itakhola Mura are nearby attractions.

The Maynamati War Cemetery is a solemn and significant historical site located in Comilla, Bangladesh. This cemetery serves as the final resting place for soldiers who lost their lives during World War II. It is situated approximately 8 kilometers from the center of Comilla city. The cemetery is beautifully maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and is a tribute to the sacrifices made by both Allied and Axis forces during the war. It is a serene and peaceful place, with well-manicured lawns, rows of white gravestones, and lush greenery. The Maynamati War Cemetery is the burial ground for over 700 soldiers from various nationalities, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and other countries that were part of the Allied forces. Each gravestone tells a story of a life cut short in the pursuit of freedom and peace. Visiting the Maynamati War Cemetery is a poignant and educational experience, as it offers a glimpse into the historical significance of Comilla during World War II. It serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought for a better world and stands as a symbol of international cooperation and remembrance. For history enthusiasts and anyone interested in paying their respects to the fallen heroes of World War II, the Maynamati War Cemetery is a place of reverence and reflection.

A historic place. It is a war cemetery and a memorial which is established and maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. It contains 736 burials of the 2nd World War. It is situated in the Comilla Cantonment area, which is also a quiet and beautiful place. It reminds me of the destruction caused by the war and the sacrifices made by the innocent lives. Due to Covid restriction the cemetry is now temporarily closed.

"Soldier, rest! thy warfare o’er, Dream of fighting fields no more; Sleep the sleep that knows not breaking, Morn of toil, nor night of waking." Sir Walter Scott. One of my favrouite place in Cumilla. Soldiers who lost their lives on the Bengal front during the Second World War (1939-1945) are interred at the Mainamati War Cemetery. The Cemetery is located a short distance after the Cantonment Military Hospital, 1 km down the road leading from Comilla to Sylhet. At the crossroads, there is a C.W.G.C. road direction sign. The distance between Mainamati and Comilla, which is on the railway line that connects Dhaka and Chittagong, is around 7 kilometers. To honor those who gave their lives in battle, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission constructed and maintains it. A modest hill with a flat top dominates the area. The Christian cemeteries are located between the entryway and this hill, and the Muslim graves are located on the opposite side. The Cross of Sacrifice is located on a terrace about halfway up the hill, facing the entrance. On the opposite side, a shelter looks over the Muslim graves to a view of the surrounding countryside that is framed by trees. There are currently more than 737 graves in this cemetery, among them those of soldiers from many other nations, including the USA, Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan/India during the time.

I recently visited the Mainamati War Cemetery in Comilla, Bangladesh and was struck by the serene and peaceful atmosphere of the place. The beautifully maintained cemetery contains the graves of soldiers who fought and sacrificed their lives during the Burma Campaign of World War II. The cemetery is a solemn and fitting tribute to the brave men who served their country during this tumultuous period in history. The staff at the cemetery were courteous and helpful, and the grounds were immaculate. If you are in the area, I highly recommend a visit to the Mainamati War Cemetery to pay your respects to those who gave their lives for our freedom.

If you are looking for a place which is quite, peaceful and neat and clean, you should definitely visit this place. But if you visit here, please be mindful of the graves of the soldiers. Dont do anything that disrespect them. If you take your kids with you, share the story behind this graves. They might not understand, but a sense of respect will grow in them.. this is called wisdom.. give them that. Your kids deserve it from you.

Maynamati War Cemetery bears the signature of the martyrs who had laid down their lives in the second world war. Due to the Barma war in WWII, many soldiers from various continents sacrificed their lives. They were then placed in this scenic place as their last place. Commonwealth countries look after this cemetery. This cemetery has the nice aesthetic views along with the good maintenance. Cemetery remain closes from 12 PM to 2 PM.

If the phrase "Rest in Peace" had a visual representation, it must be something like this place. You will get a sense of calming, peaceful environment as soon as you enter to this place. Besides this being a place of historical significance, this is one of the major tourist attractions in Cumilla. Sadly, many people and group coming to this place treat it like a picnic spot and totally ignore the fact that this is actually a cemetery of fallen soldiers of WWII. Everyone coming to this place should pay their respect to the deceased and remember the sacrifices of so many young souls.

Such a historic place! Bearing the mark of second world war for many decades. This is mainly a graveyard of the soldiers who died during the war. This place is so well maintained. Flowers of variety are planted in between each grave. I was planning for visiting this place from last few years and finally it happened. Today's weather was best as you can see in the photos. It was a sunny day but the intensity of sun was not that much. You need no entry fee to visit this place.

A well maintained place just by the Cumilla - Sylhet highway. Even though it's a cemetery, by no means it is a calm and silent place. Instead of mourning people have made it a place for gathering and taking pictures!

There used to be a British military base in Cumilla and the burial here is mostly of the soldiers who were hospitalized during the second world war. In total there are 736 burials in this cemetery mostly British soldiers and also from Canada, Australia, Japan, Africa, and many other countries. This graveyard was created by the Commonwealth War Grave Commission, and still, they're maintaining it. This cemetery is one of the most well-maintained cemeteries I've seen. The whole place is full of grass and flowers. The grave ledgers are clean and clear. It's such a tragedy that most of the soldiers died at a young age. Though this cemetery is supposed to be a peaceful place, during my visit it seemed to be a park where locals gather and have chitchat. I think some regulations need to be done. And a museum on the history of this place would be amazing. ◼️ Wheelchair is kinda accessible if you have a helping hand. ◼️ Parking is available.

This place remind me a poem of Rupart- "If I should die, think only this of me: That there's some corner of a foreign field That is for ever England. There shall be In that rich earth a richer dust concealed; A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware, Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam, A body of England's, breathing English air, Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home. And think, this heart, all evil shed away, A pulse in the eternal mind, no less Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given; Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day; And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness, In hearts at peace, under an English heaven."

This is an unique experience for me to have a visit on a christian cemetery. During the Second world war British soldiers had taken a strong position in the then Bengal. Bengal became a frontier both for the Britishers and the Japanese. Several small and large scale battles had fought between the archrivals. Both British & japanese soldiers have been buried here, specially the japanese war prisoners. The place is open for all..From 10 am to 5 pm visitors can go there.

This is a second world war cemetery where soldiers from different regiments of different region are rest in piece. The cemetery is well decorated and you can find the different rank system of that time of second world war. You can find muslim soldiers grave yard on the back side of the Cemetery which seems to me racism.

The Mainamati War Cemetery, also known as Kumilla War Cemetery, is a war cemetery and a memorial in Kumilla, which contains graves of those, who sacrificed their lives in the Second World War from the nearby areas. The cemetery contains 736 Commonwealth burials of the war. It was established and is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), to pay tribute to those martyrs of the Second World War. The cemetery is located in the Kumilla Cantonment area. Before the war, Mainamati was a hamlet of a few dozen huts. However, during the war, a large military camp was established over there. Several ordinance depots and a number of military hospitals, both British and Indian, were in the area, including Nos. 14 and 150 British General Hospitals. The majority of the burials in the cemetery were from those hospitals. The Army Graves Service and the Commission further moved graves from isolated places nearby and also some from as far afield as Burma into the cemetery. They even felt necessary to transfer some graves from small cemeteries of Dhaka, Faridpur, Paksay, Saidpur, Santahar and Sirajganj, where they could not be maintained. The cemetery was initiated by the Army and laid out by the garrison engineer. The beautiful cemetery is adorned by a small flat-topped hill crowned with indigenous flowers and evergreen trees. Between the entrance and this hill, the headstones of the Christian and Muslim graves lie in rows on different sides. Majestically a shelter looks over the Muslim graves to a tree-framed view of the countryside beyond. There are inscriptions written on each grave stating the name, date of birth and date of death of the martyr. (Translated by Google) I heard before the Comilla Tour here that boys and girls are banned from traveling together, But when I was going to the Queen's Palace, I wished I could see it a little and I and my bandhubi would turn around separately. But after going in, no one said anything, so the two went around together. Here lies the Christian warriors who were martyred during World War II. The atmosphere was very beautiful.
