Beautiful waterfront park, free and open to the public, located in Cape Elizabeth. It's most well-known for being the home of Portland Head Light, but it's actually a huge park with an old fort, a cliff walk, a shell of a house, a playground, a picnic area, a huge green space and lots of parking. Beautiful views of Casco Bay and Portland across the harbor. There is a well-known food truck Bite Me, specializing in lobster rolls, but it's also a popular place to bring a picnic or to grill. Portland Head Light is a gorgeous lighthouse with a beautiful attached keeper's house, the most iconic lighthouse in Maine. Highly recommend a visit. Bring your walking shoes and explore this gorgeous park with a picnic lunch and stay a few hours taking in all the views. 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was a very pleasant experience, the views are some that if you arrive on a beautiful day with the sun shining you will be surprised! Plenty of parking, but it is not free so keep that in mind. There are no restrooms at the lighthouse itself, but there are some near the parking lot. Plenty of space to spread out and take some great photos of the ocean and the sailboats.

Such a beautiful place to spend time by the ocean. The forts are cool and fun to explore. Portland Head Light is one of the best lighthouses in the state and is a must see! Highly recommended stop if you are in Portland for the day

Absolutely beautiful grounds with the Portland headlight lighthouse, center, plenty of cliffs that you can walk out to enjoy the view, a beach area, Some ruins, and a lot of grassy areas areas where you can enjoy a picnic or leisure with the family. Plenty of parking and pet friendly. This is something you need to be sure to see if you're in the area.

Picturesque park situated on the rocky coastline of Maine with the ruins of an old fort scattered throughout, featuring one of the world’s most iconic lighthouses. While Portland Head Light is what brings in all the visitors, this park would honestly be pretty cool without it. Anywhere along the Maine coast is beautiful, but this stretch is particularly breathtaking. There are also a few open fields, some lightly wooded areas, a plethora of trails, a good selection of food trucks, and even a (somewhat) sandy beach. It’s not the biggest park, but it combines many of the coolest aspects of Maine: the rocky coast, beautiful views of the ocean, a bit of history, and (of course) a magnificent lighthouse.

Absolutely stunning! A must see! Hard to describe in words. Definitely make this part of your trip while in the Portland area. You won’t be disappointed! Plenty to see and do even if the weather is subpar! Check it out!

It was much more beautiful in person than it was my dreams! Literally took my breath away. It was stunning! It wasn’t so crowded when I visited it October of 2021 maybe due to pandemic and I liked it that way. I could take pictures without having to worry about the crowd. There were lots of parking slots and toilet cubicles (though not so clean).

What a beautiful park!! The walking paths, water views, gorgeous lighthouse. We absolutely loved our visit here. Also, heard that this was the most visited and photographed lighthouse in the country! Definitely recommend coming here on a nice day and enjoying the ambiance.

Most beautiful place! Was told it was one of the most photographed places in America. You will want to snap a photo so be sure you take your camera! Be sure and go over to the right side of the building and see where the famous ship wreck happened, very interesting , the whole crew survived, Annie McGuire story. Most beautiful light house I have ever seen and I have seen several lighthouses up and down the Easter coast. WOW don’t miss this!!!

This light is a beautiful place. The place is so picturesque that you don’t feel like coming back. The views are fantastic, it’s almost gave me a feel of coast line drive of California. A must go place in Maine visit.

This place is a gem! Awesome children's garden with fun things to explore (tunnels, climb trees & crazy slide). The playground was also a hit. The main attraction is the lighthouse. Great views. Plenty of picnic tables for lunch or you can find a place on the lawn. Free parking if you don't mind walking from overflow lot.

Very beautiful place. I was in awe for the first time having never been to Maine or New England in general. I came back three times before leaving the area. Make sure to check everything out the park has to offer, not just the light house. Definitely get some lobster rolls and look at the view!

Great spot to see the water as well as the lighthouse. Best part for us was being able to climb down on the rocks near the water to get very close to the water. Great pictures and really beautiful to look at. We didn't go to any of the other lighthouse spots so can't compare them, but everything was great about this place.

It's beautiful, a must see, and the onsight museum is pretty cool. You are not able to go up into the light house, it is still in operation but the waves crashing and the great photo ops should not be missed. And actually there are 2 lighthouses here

Love love love this place but definitely need a weekend or multiple trips! This is so much more then just a day trip 😍 from Forts to mansions, lighthouses & that beautiful coast line ❤️ Pay for parking & lunch trucks if your hungry 😀

FYI not a free park. Costs money to park. $7 for 3 hours. HOWEVER, it has many paths, and an off leash dog park area for your pups which got me to change my 4 star to a 5 star. As long as that parking money goes to maintaining the park. I still wish they would not list it as FREE on their Google bio. We spent two and a half hour here, and I really enjoyed myself.

Visiting Fort Williams Park was a great and memorable experience for me and my wife. Seeing the historic and iconic light house (Portland Head Light House) was a real treat. Unfortunately, our visit came during a time when the museum was not open. Despite this, we still had a great time and will definitely visit again during the summer when everything will be open. We will also visit the other light houses nearby.

Wow! There are few places on Earth as beautiful as Fort Williams. A must see when planning your trip to the area. There are spaces to sit and enjoy the view, grill out, sit on the rocks, enjoy a swing, the lighthouse, trails to walk, spaces to swim, historic sights to see, and even a great little food truck that sells lobster rolls most of the time. There is plenty of parking and friendly faces. Make sure you take some time to stop by and view the beautiful houses in the area.

Beautiful! We stopped here on a New England road trip up to Acadia, and it was totally worth it. I love that you are able to explore some of the old ruins, and the views are spectacular. There are seating areas to eat and places for kids to play. If you are in the area and have the chance to add this into your trip, I 100% would. One thing to keep in mind is that the parking is paid. I was not expecting this, but it was worth it.

The best attraction in the Portland area. The views of Portland Head Light over the crashing waves are priceless. The park is expansive and has plenty of parking. There are also many trails, including the Cliff Walk, which you can enjoy.

  • 5/5 Hathan D. 6 months ago on Google
Beautiful area. Parking is free during the off season and it's nice to come down ans just watch the waves crash. Not a lot of options for beach walks, but it's a gorgeous location all the same, and an amazing spot to have a small picnic or quiet outing. A lot busier during tourist season and parking costs then, so probably only worth the visit for a local during the fall and early spring.

Fort Williams Park is a true gem offering breathtaking coastal views and historic charm. The park's expansive greenery and well-maintained grounds make it an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll or a family picnic. The iconic Portland Head Light, located within the park, adds to its allure, providing a picturesque backdrop. Whether you're exploring the historic structures or simply enjoying the serene ambiance, Fort Williams Park is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike.

If you really want to be mesmerized by nature, this is the place to go, please go and spend a day because this park is just absolutely beautiful and amazing! Very well maintained and beautiful location, plenty of parking and lots of seating and at the end of the park they have dog area where they can be without leash! We walked more than 15k steps and I think it was not enough!

  • 4/5 Shawn S. 11 months ago on Google
The scenery was breath taking, almost not real. We visited on the long weekend and it wasn’t packed or crazy busy. We were able to find parking easily. The park is dog friendly and we wee able to walk our pups everywhere. The food trucks were the busiest part, we decided to go to an off park location for our lobster rolls. If you are in the area , stop by and take in the view

This Park is absolutely beautiful. Love the Lighthouse! The View is Spectacular. They have food trucks too. My favorite was Cousins Maine Lobster Food Truck, their Lobster Tacos were delicious one of the best I've ever had. They also had vendors selling jewelry and other items which made it all a great visit.

Absolutely beautiful! A must visit when in the Portland area. Dogs allowed on the grounds (please help keep this place and accessible for pets beautiful by cleaning up after your pet!!), Passport parking app for the paid parking areas or use the pay kiosks, ample parking a food truck (seasonal) and much more. Plan to take your time as there is a walkway around the grounds - making for plenty of opportunities to get photos at different angles and there is much to explore. History buffs will appreciate the old WWII and earlier military history of the park. Don't skip this iconic lighthouse when in the area. It is worth the time!

A beautiful park with amazing views of Portland Head Light, old Fort Williams, and ruins of a once stately mansion. It’s all perched on amazing rocky cliffs that afford great views of the water and the lighthouse. Fun for the entire family.

A must see Maine costal view of Portland Harbor area. Climb down to the sea on the rocks, view from a trail along the cliffs or from the base of the lighthouse. The park is well maintained and has lots of nature and historic buildings to see and plaques to read about the history. Places to picnic on the grass and relax or eat from the food snacks serving great food. Lots to see. You have to walk a lot and it’s up and down hilly terrain. Parking is in provided in parking lots for a fee.

The lighthouse is a true gem that shouldn’t be missed. Nestled in a picturesque setting, the lighthouse offers breathtaking views of the coastline and the open sea. It’s the perfect spot for both locals and tourists seeking a peaceful escape. I was captivated by the beauty of the lighthouse itself, as well as the stunning sunsets that paint the sky in hues of orange and pink. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a photographer, or simply looking for a serene place to unwind, this lighthouse is an absolute must-visit. Highly recommended! 🌊🌅🗺️

Such a wonderful location! I was there twice and hoping to come back to explore even more. It's a home to Portland headlight and museum, a lot of trails, ruins of marine and history importance like Goddard mansion, fort william. It has a very nice picnic area with tables and grills and a beach. Several food trucks and porta potties. Entrance fee: Just pay parking, card only.

Such a beautiful area to visit. It was so lovely at sunset. There are picnic tables on the hill for you to enjoy a meal and a couple food trucks are there as well. This lighthouse is a fabulous one to see in person up close.

Nice park, lots of parking. Free to get into park, but parking does cost. Plenty of space for pets and kids, benches and a nice small beach. Did not get to see lighthouse because dense fog came in right after the pictures.

So much to see and do!! The lighthouse did not disappoint and was beautiful with the peonies that had bloomed. Even with winds at 25 mph it was gorgeous. The battery is really beautiful. Stairs on left side are well worn but right side was easier to climb. Love the mansion and of course the light house. We went on a Tuesday right from the airport. Plenty of parking at about 3:15. It wasn't too crowded. Beautiful wide open area for families with several grill areas. There are several food trucks in the area as well.

Visited on a cloudy misty day, brisk breeze, but the view was still breathtaking. Gift shop was not open yet, light keepers house was not open to the public. There's a walk up the cliff along the granite wall. Beautiful!!

The main attraction of this park is the Portland Head Lighthouse. Also noteworthy is the Bite into Maine food truck featured of Better Feed Phil show. Park staff are very helpful and there is a small gift shop next to the lighthouse. Parking is paid at kiosks, rates are reasonable.

The lighthouse is well maintained and worth a visit with family and friends. Beautiful area with a nice walking trail along the ocean. Parking is $5.00 for 2 hours.

Incredible views of the light house. The park has easy walking trail that let everyone enjoys the picturesque landscape of the charming Maine coastal line.

Gorgeous view. Loved the sea and cliffs surrounding the lighthouse. A bit breezy but sunny blue skies made this day a wonderful trip to Portland. The trail around it was a nice little hike

  • 5/5 MK C. 1 year ago on Google
A visit to Maine is incomplete without witnessing its amazing and beautiful coast line. On its coast filled with amazing sites, there is perhaps nothing more iconic than Portland's Head Light. While you cannot actually climb the lighthouse, you can walk around it and take pictures from a number of vantage points. There is also a nice museum sharing the history of this and other Maine lighthouses. Other than the lighthouse, the park's grounds include the remains of Fort Williams and the Goddard Mansion and a nice paved trail, maybe about a half mile, that extends north of the lighthouse. Vendors on the park grounds sell lobster rolls and treats such as whoopie pies, blueberry soda, and gelato.

One of my favorite spots in Maine to bring the family for a day full of fun. Bring the kites, pack a picnic lunch, take a dip in the cove and take in all the beautiful scenery the Fort Williams have to offer! And don't forget to check out the Children's Garden, my family's family spot in Fort Williams 💙💙
