Kowloon was great disappointment. We had heard and read so ma y raving reviews about this place. We came to dine in with huge expectations. We were heavily disappointed. The food lacked flavour but we still had hope from the dessert. Alas that turned out to be worst disappointment. The fried ice cream was not fried at all. It was a frozen ball of vanilla ice cream coated in broken corn flakes. I still.xant believe this was served to us in an Asian restaurant!. Please see attached photos to believe!

Had some friends in from LA and wanted to give them the Kowloon experience. It was okay. To be fair it was Xmas Eve and packed and madness. Food was lukewarm and drinks were a lot weaker than I remember from years ago. An ongoing money making machine. It was fun to visit. I'm good now for another 20 years.

My daughter came down for the weekend and my son bought us Kowloon's for dinner. The chicken fingers were the best we have ever had. I returned yesterday and bought take out again! Love Kowloon's! My neighbor posed for pics! 🙄

Came for an event that was supposed to be outdoors but due to weather, they moved it inside to their comedy room. They were still able to accommodate everyone and had room for a Lion dance as well. Food was buffet style so everyone had plenty to eat. Seating was a little tight due to last minute moving event indoors but was still able to move around. Very attentive service and kept tables clean.

Kowloon is a landmark in Massachusetts. This was our first time dining in - I can honestly say that Kowloon's atmosphere is worth the visit. The decor is fun and the interior of the building is massive with multiple dining rooms. Make sure to make a reservation on weekends or prepare to wait. The drinks are STRONG! My White Mai Tai hit the spot after a long week of work. In addition to Mai Tai's, they serve various tiki drinks. The food is just average, but some signature dishes are worth ordering. Their menu is massive and includes Chinese, Japanese, and Thai food. The Crab Rangoon was fantastic; not greasy and stuffed with crab meat. Unfortunately, our entrees lacked flavor. Prices are reasonable due to the portion sizes. Overall, Kowloon is a must-visit in the area to experience the atmosphere.

This is my favorite Asian cuisine restaurant that I have been to and for many reasons. To the people who care about small business It's a family owned restaurant that has been passed down for generations which is rare, that alone gains my respect especially since it's been around since 1950! The building's mid century design and architecture is great, each room has a unique theme as well. It's a welcome change from the bland modern day chain restaurants most people go to that have absolutely no character. The staff here is friendly and the meal came quickly even when the place was packed. The food is delicious with big portions so it is a great value for what you pay, I was impressed. This establishment is a real gem in a world of boring restaurants with poor service and overpriced low quality food that seem to be taking over everything now, but I digress. If you want to go to an authentic old school Chinese/Asian restaurant with a fun atmosphere, incredible food & service for a fair reasonable price then you really need to come here. This place will sadly be closing some time in the near future and it will be lost to history. Enjoy this place before it's gone because all that Saugus will have left is chain fast food garbage and miles of ugly apartment complexes, this place is the only reason I come to this area anyways.

Kowloon Resturant is a great place for food and drinks. The ambiance in this place is amazing. Great service! In my opinion, the food is as good as Paul's Kitchen in Downtown Los Angeles, CA. If you're ever in LA, visit that place. Highly recommend a visit. You won't be disappointed!

Such a fun place to go for a comedy show and what an amazing dinner we had. The quality is really good and the pricing is very fair. Sure the building is a little dilapidated, it’s all part of the charm. The servers are great, the ambiance is great, the food is wonderful - what more could you want? Love this spot.

Not being born and raised here we had never heard of this place. Not surprised it has lasted 70 years. Owner is the one who seated us, food was out in 10 minutes, and we watched him help bus a table while we were enjoying our drink. Always awesome when a one of a kind family owned place can do so well.

They now have an outdoor area, but I got there too late to experience it. They have a comedy show, Fri-Sat, that I'll have to check out. The inside is very nice, a little nostalgic, and that's fine. The food... the food was good, I had a scorpion bowl, and it was OK. I had the pupu platter for 2, and it was so much food (pumps fist). The crab Rangoon looked as stuffed as a pregnant woman holding triplets. I didn't give the food 5 stars because the scorpion bowl was ok, you could hardly taste the liquor and I had pork fried rice that tasted so bland it was as if I were eating white rice, there was just no flavor plus it came out at room temperature. The service was great so take the family and friends.

Such a classic restaurant from a bygone era. This was my first time and it somehow felt nostalgic. I'm glad it's still around. The food was great, the service was super fast, the drinks were delicious.

My friends and I joke every time we come here about how fast the food comes out. This visit we ordered about seven entrees and five appetizers and it took a total of 12 minutes after ordering. It's baffling how fast the service is The mixed drinks were great and they gave us a free ice cream for our friend's birthday, who we took for her first time to celebrate. Amazing ambiance and friendly staff. Clean restrooms

Always a feeling of nostalgia going to Kowloon's. I love the decor and the vibrant vibe, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. The food is good & staff is friendly. I felt a little bit rushed by our waiter, but it was closing time so I can understand that. He was attentive and did come by and refill our waters after we paid which was a nice gesture.

Everyone knows that Route 1 features a wide variety of famous landmarks. From the Hilltop Cactus to the Leaning Tower of Pizza, visitors come from far and wide to experience what this little stretch of Saugus has to offer. However, nothing stands out more than the Kowloon. My buddies and I have been talking about journeying to the palace for a while now, and the other day we finally made the trek. Pulled up at 5:00 PM on a stormy Tuesday evening and the parking lot was already full. I knew we were in for a treat. Were welcomed with open arms and seated immediately. Menu is expansive, but not overwhelming. Ordered Crab Rangoon, the Naruto Roll, Orange Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, and Lo Mein. Finished with fried ice cream. Everything was delicious and portions were huge. As full as I’ve been in a while. Certainly not inexpensive, but ranks strongly in my price per bite metric. But what really sets Kowloon apart is the service. Felix was incredibly nice and conversational. Nobody in our party ever had an empty glass of water, as he was constantly there to refill our cups. It’s places like this that make me proud to do what I do as a Local Guide. Kowloon is a must-go if you like eating food.

Just dined in after many, many years. The service was awesome and the food was good. Chicken wings and chicken teriyaki, a little too dry, to be honest. I got take out a couple of times and it was the same. Otherwise, everything else was tasty. Place still looks 80's! But it was a good time, nostalgic.

I have been going here for years and have never had a bad meal. They know what they're doing with New England style Chinese food. Some of my favorites include the Hot and Sour Soup, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, Saugus Wings, Tangerine Beef, I could go on.. The atmosphere adds to the vibe. Very well decorated, has dimmer lighting that gives you that old school feeling. I had the pleasure of being here for an event during the Chinese New Year! Oh yeah, you can get fried ice cream for dessert!

2/18/24 Update: We dined in again and it was the total opposite experience as last time. The waiter was impatient, short, and bothered when we asked questions. He didn't ask us what we wanted for drinks - just asked if we were ready to order. We were brought water with our food. An item that was on the 'build your own combo' menu - pepper steak - was apparently "no longer an option" even though it was clearly on the menu. Chicken fingers were larger than previously, which made the breading around them soggy. Unfortunately it was such a bad customer service experience that we won't be back for a while. Photos attached to this review were from the 10/28/23 which I reviewed below. 10/28/23 5-Star Review: Food is delicious, hot, and fresh. I've had both take-out & more recently dined in. Our waitress was fantastic; welcoming and attentive. The menu has a ton of variety and I love that you can create your own dinner combo. Generous portions - you get what you pay for.

A blast from the past that consistently has amazing service, a delightfully campy space, and good food! Great for lovers of American Chinese and American Sushi dishes. They have movie events, comedy, and other fun stuff going on throughout the year!

This place is phenomenal. There are many reasons that movie stars come here. It could be the atmosphere. It could be the staff going above and beyond to make the visitors feel loved. They even offered extras at the end to help serve leftovers the next day. And yes, it seems that there will always be leftovers. The plates are giant and we over ordered. The folks that run this place are super welcoming and have a lot of information to share when asked.

Wanted to eat here before it is demolished. The food is alright, but a bit too greasy for my liking. We came mostly for the atmosphere and the novelty of it. Our server was amazing and very attentive! Make sure to stop by the gift shop before leaving! We got 2 Kowloon t-shirts as a souvenir of a Boston landmark.

Classic building and atmosphere. But the drinks are weak and not classically/well garnished for true tiki drinks. The food is ok, nothing to write home about, except for the ribs in the pu pu platter, which were great.

It was ok. The vibes are great but the food is a little bland. I have been going here since I was a kid. Visiting my hometown so I decided to pop in and take my fiance' for his first time. He has a palate like mine - we love food, so he wasn't impressed but also wasn't upset about it. On the good side, the alcoholic drinks were delicious! I do remember this place being much more flavorful, change is inevitable though. The best way to explain the food: It was very American-ized asian food. Enjoy !

Bobby was wonderful at the front desk and told us a lot about the history of Kowloon. He's been there since 1975. Good choice of lunch and specials, food was pretty good, and service was reasonable. The atmosphere inside was wonderful and apparently the restaurant seats about 1200. Rumor is it's going away in the next year or two. I probably hadn't been there since the time Hilltop was open.

I'm impressed with this restaurant... it has a very unique design/decoration; the place is huge; the menu has so many options; the food was amazing; the service was fast... It's a great place!

Solid menu of American Chinese, Thai and Japanese dishes. The Mai Tai’s never disappoint. I enjoyed the gluten free shrimp and I can’t miss ordering Crab Rangoon every time I eat here. Staff was attentive and the kitsch atmosphere keeps me coming back. This is a great place for engagement parties and large groups.

Kowloon is a beautiful restaurant with a very friendly staff! The food is amazing as well! I went at dinner time when it was very busy but was seated very quickly and was tended to quickly as well! It is clean and has a gorgeous decor style! I ordered the shrimp pad Thai and was very pleased with it! Pad Thai is one of my favorite dishes and Kowloon 10/10 knows what they’re doing! Highly recommend visiting this restaurant!

Lunch prices were pretty good. Chicken wings were amazing. The rice wasn’t really hot which is my only complaint otherwise solid experience.

Drinks are good. Staff is friendly. It did take some time to get a waiter over to help us order but overall, i’d give the experience a 4.2/5. Food was fresh and the setting was nice. Definitely recommend going for a party or large event. -Benjamin P.
