Well, this museum is located in a very Nice building, a mix of old and new but didnt find IT worth playing 10 euro. Last hour before closure you can visit the museum for free. Kids would pay 7 euro but Will find IT boring.

Disappointed, it was too minimalist, 2 dimensional and dull. Beautiful dresses but no information, no details about the cut, how they achieved the textures, who wore them and how they were made. All housed in a enormously underused building. A missed opportunity to have something stunning in this beautiful town.

The museum is a nice building by itself. With a modern look to it, mostly inside 👍 I was there with my girlfriend who did a course about fashion design. Even tho' she really likes the exposition, the amount of pieces displayed weren't enough compared to the amazing work Balenciaga produced 🙄 I'll still go for it if you pass by Getaria but I would'nt do a stop just for it.

Great museum. Worth a visit . Good access for wheelchairs & pushchairs. Nice toilets too! It's right at the end of the harbour & is a lovely walk along. Lots to see, mostly people watching.

The museum itself may not be huge, but it's incredibly interesting. The exhibits are exceptionally well-presented, making it a must-visit for fashion enthusiasts and anyone looking to appreciate Balenciaga's legacy.

I was so happy to find out about this museum, when I planned my trip to Bilbao and San Sebastian. I cannot say you must come here if it is not on your way, but if you are in San Sebastian, or passing this area, it is definitely a place you want to visit, if you are fashion fans or not. The story of Balenciaga is very inspiring and his creations are art by every criteria. The building itself is one of those architecture monsters everyone with money likes to make, but it is attached to an amazing old house of the area architecture (Gateria) with significance to Balenciaga's life (watch the 23min movie at the entrance). The display itself is pretty modest (funny that they have all that space, for 6 medium size rooms of display - maybe it's a metaphor for his airy designs..?) Some features are very clever, like they have some replicas you can try on, and some that show the process etc. The originals are mostly stunning, but I was missing some of the iconic designs (maybe 2-3 of those are in). It is a beautiful 1-1,5 h visit, that enriches you with a local success story.

The Museum building is very beautiful and also the exposition. The only small issue is that it's a bit monotone and flat.

Very, very expensive (€14) for a visit that will take most visitors under an hour to complete. The new building is a monstrosity. Enormous and a sore thumb amid all the wonderful old architecture. And yet despite its size, the collection is surprisingly thin. There is very little about the artist himself. No personal belongings, no texts, nothing about his family or upbringing despite this being his hometown. And for such a new space, there's a glaring lack of multimedia and cutting-edge displays. It's also sad (though I guess not surprising?) that one cannot buy any Balenciaga clothing in the gift shop. Not worth going out of your way for this museum, but if you have time to kill in Getaria (esp during the last hour of the day, when it's free to enter), it's an ok stop.

I recommend this museum. The architecture of the building and the exhibition are good. There is a 20 minute video at the beginning of the exhibition which gives you an overview of his life. The rest takes about 45 minutes to walk through.

(Translated by Google) Even if you are not a fan of Haute Couture, it is worth visiting this museum and learning the story of one of the greatest dressmakers of all time. A collection of dresses and personal items from her entire life. A beautiful building. You cannot take photos. (Translated by Google) Large building, with a design at the height of the tailor. The rooms are large and well lit. All explanations are given through a mobile app, so I recommend wearing headphones, as there is an audio guide (there is also a written explanation). They have different discounts for different groups, so it is good to ask if you belong to one (teacher, student ...) Todas las explicaciones se dan mediante una app del móvil, por lo que recomiendo llevar auriculares, ya que hay audioguia (también está la explicación por escrito). an outstanding museum the size of Getaria city itself, dedicated to an artist who revolutionised fashion and design, and the museum itself is an architectural masterpiece, constructed of steel as you do in the Basque Country.

Really beautiful building and interesting story. The only downside is no cafe. And that you walk through the historical building next to it, without knowing about it. Would be nice if they would implement the old building in some other way

Not as many gowns as I had expected. Quite dark inside although I expect this was to protect the fabric. A coffee shop would have been nice.

The museum provides background in the form of a biography and historical facts before taking your through the clothing models he designed. The pathway is well designed. It provides explanations in English as well. The inside of the building itself feels very closed and small. There is no cafe inside and no parking (only street parking).

(Translated by Google) When I began to study fashion design I got to know the world of Cristóbal Balenciaga; It was at that moment that I set my goal to visit the Balenciaga museum in his native Getaria. A very beautiful town full of colors and tranquility, which is interrupted from time to time with the arrival of summer and the use of its beaches. The museum does not disappoint, the dresses and the collection presented will take your breath away as you progress through its different rooms. The conservation and care of every detail are felt in each garment. Inspirador.

Stunning museum with well laid out displays of Balenciaga's work from a few decades. I walked through several air conditioned pods displaying works in glass encased rooms in each pod. With the positioning of the mannequins, it gave me a good view to see the pieces from multiple angles.

Expected more of it than just plain dresses in white light. After you had seen Gucci Garden or any Dior’s museums this one stays way behind them. Wouldn’t recommend going to Getaria just to see this museum - it’s not worth it in my opinion.

The facilities where the permanent collection is exhibited are modern and full of emotion because they are attached to the palace of the Marquise de Casas Torres, Balenciaga's patron. The collections on display allow you to discover the life and work of Balenciaga. Some pieces are masterpieces of 20th century fashion. Essential to know the work of the master of haute couture masters. Amazing experience and made me emotional to see Balenciaga’s own clothings. No line for the entrance and escalator inside and outside the museum. 30-40’ visit maximum.

  • 4/5 Akash K. 7 months ago on Google
Extremely beautiful museum which explains the history of the brand and most importantly throws light upon the founder, Cristóbal Balenciaga who hailed from the town of Getaria. The museum does a really good job of showing the evolution of Balenciaga's designs over the years. The museum has everything explained in Euskara, Spanish, English and French which is really nice for the tourists. The entrance fee of 12€ is a bit steep though hence the reduction by one star.

An architectural gem. Great Danish design in the porch. A beautiful museum that gives a living proof of Balanciaga's influence on fashion.

7 months ago on Google
Museum is well planned and organized. But in my opinion may be interesting only for those who are interested in history of moda in general and Balenciaga especially. For others it is just to have a rest on extremely hot or rainy weather and to point out that there is nothing new in moda at least since middle of XX. Only dresses, nothing of leather. There were very few visitors. The staff is terrible, unfriendly and unwelcoming.

(Translated by Google) Huge disappointment. Horrible building, black without any grace, being able to have done it in the house to which it is attached that is closed, and not spend a fortune in building that horror. . The collection that is presented seems to me very scarce, few pieces, I miss more sketches, fabrics, personal things from Balenciaga, photos, how was his workshop, etc. The exposure of the suits prevents you from seeing them from the front and the back, more importance is given to what surrounds the suit than to the suit itself and there are very few. I would like to have known who the costumes were, who donated them, the explanation of the models is very simple. The accompanying texts are very simple and also cannot be read because they are in the dark. Come on, a big disappointment.
