A great museum with a lot of worthy exhibitions. And many things for children to join and play. The only pity is that the language choices are not many. For foreign children, only German and English are not enough, at least Dutch audio guide should be available there. But in general, it’s great. Worthy to take 2 hours inside, even it’s not a very big museum, though.

Nice place, it's more for the kids but the elders having an interest in the history would love this. The museum entry ticket is 11 euro for adults but for Children and students it's discounted so much better to visit when you are a student 😀 Overall I just roamed around the outer area and liked the creativity. Good place but better for history fans.

Toller Aussichtsturm. Beeindruckende Sonderausstellung zu Grönland. Tickets sind online günstiger.

Beautiful Museum an hour away from the Düsseldorf city. It provides very good overview for the history of the humans and the people working here are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended to visit. It is one of the must visit places. This place has some very interesting items to see and the user experience is absolutely amazing. The narrative provided for the visitors are very informative and interesting. This museum is very comfortable and disabled friendly. I could only say good things about this museum and highly recommend others to visit (specially good for kids). Cheers and wish this recommendation would be useful for others.

Great all-round experience. The walk from the station is so quiet and beautiful - visit between May and November for the best woodland vibes. The architecture of the museum itself is very innovative - the entire building takes you along a gentle upward slope, so there are no stairs throughout the entire permanent exhibition. The only stairs are at the very end, but there is a lift. Good for low-mobility visitors. The displays are meant to be interactive to greater or lesser degrees. Great place to bring children, but if you are looking to play with the displays yourself, I recommend visiting during the week between 16:00 and 18:00 if possible - then you don't have to compete with the children 😂😂😂 Informative and fully bilingual. Entry is a steal at 9 € for the permanent exhibition, 7€ for the special exhibition, 11€ for both and a long list of potential discounts. Restrooms and storage closets in the basement. Enjoy a hike in the surrounding areas or a meal at the nearby country restaurant - the local cuisine is hearty in winter and refreshing in summer!

The museum is very nice for everybody, but especially if you like the human prehistoric. Includes descriptions in both language German and English, but also if you go with a kid is very kid-friendly, and easy to find parking and also by train (even if it is a bit far from the station). For me, it makes it very special to the fact that the museum is located very close to the Neander Valley the place where the Neandertal was found. However, from my point of view, the museum is a bit small, and going there so far only for the museum maybe it is a bit disappointing. But if you include the outside activities like the hiking route that takes you to the Neander Valley, or the park for the kids, it is quite worthy.

Very informative outing. The museum has a lot of interactive displays and some great looking examples of Neanderthals. I was surprised to see all of the research that has gone on over the years. My own DNA indicates that I have 87% more Neanderthal in me than the DNA participants in the study I’m involved in. Please be advised; parking is a gamble. Just wait for someone to leave along the road and race to get it!

Visit the museum and you will and your children will spend a great time. The audio guide is really nice idea and my family and I really loved it. The statues are in real height and are wonderful. We spend a nice time in the museum.

(Translated by Google) Very interesting, also for children. There are extra audio files for children here. If you cannot find a parking space directly in front of the museum, a free shuttle service runs from a parking lot about 2km away to the museum. But only on weekends, mine only on Sundays. Opposite is a nice playground and around it there are plenty of opportunities to buy something to eat or drink. 👍🏻

Excellent place for people curious to know about the evolution of man. Neanderthal named after the Neander region & Tal ( Valley) near Düssel River in Germany. Where the first fossils and bones of the Neanderthals were found. Takes about 3 to 4 hours to fully go through the entire museum. Lot of information in a precise & crisp way. There are audio guides in both German and English. Special mention to all the voice artist on the audio guides have tried best to capture the attention of the visitors and make it all sound very interesting. Small cafe with few saft (juice), coffees, cakes. The Kellner (waiter) was very patient and good at service, who also speaks English. If going with family take the Familien ticket which will cost 9.35€ per person. Opposite the museum next to the parking lot there's a open park for children with slide and swings.

Well worth a visit, particularly for those fascinated by the origin of the human species. I would imagine that kids would particularly like the museum, given the wide variety of activities available for them. Parking is a bit of a problem, so be prepared to search for a bit to find a free spot.

Really well done interior. Interesting displays and nice voice acting. I loved the educational aspect. Giving it a 4 star due to the kerfuffle of parking (small parking lot with not enough spaces) and unclear on the lines for online tickets versus purchasing tickets on-site at the entrance. Also, the kids audio was only German despite English headphones. My son was able to listen to the adult version in English, but I’m sure it wasn’t as exciting. 3 floors. Kids excitement sprinkled in such as boring into wood with tools and a small excavation sandbox. Cool gift shop and very nice outdoor playground. Please note there is nudity. Tasteful of course and wasn’t an issue for my 8 year old son.

Interessantes Museum.

I have only.heard about the Neanderthal genetic variation of the human species. But visiting this museum gave me an opportunity to understand the life style and the every day activities of this animal hunting nomadic human beings. This museum has arranged the history and evolution of this species in an exemplary way. Comparison between the various human species and the animal world also gives us the evolutionary biogical continuity of humanity.

(Translated by Google) You can easily spend 2-3 hours in the museum and you still haven't heard or read everything afterwards. A wide spectrum spans from the discovery of the Neanderthal man to world religions. The audio guide is somewhat unusual. You only get headphones that you have to plug into the respective exhibit - this can mean that all the seats are sometimes occupied and you have to wait or hear something else.

This was such a let down. It doesn't deserve to be called a museum. Just some puppets and very little actual fossils or skeletons. It's more of an educational exhibition for kids. If you visit here. I'd just visit the place they discovered the neanderthaler An take a walk in the area. It's beautiful there. The "museum" is not worth you time or money in my opinion.

Really enjoyed it here due to the variety of different ways to learn. You get the headsets which you plug in to the different stations and listen to the information in english or German. Lots to see and read about too and seemed to be good for kids with lots of different things fkr them to do. Great gift shop too at the end.

(Translated by Google) We liked the way the museum was set up, that the figures looked fascinatingly real (with hair on their skin!) And that many stations (unfortunately not all of them) offered extra information boxes for children! Also nice are the many discovery offers for children, where doors and drawers could be opened to discover interesting things. The cafe is made with a lot of love. The new playground across the street shouldn't be missed by any child! Negative: On the one hand, people were hysterical about wearing the masks correctly, on the other hand, there was nothing to disinfect hands at the entrance (in the cafe at the end of the museum), although a lot could be touched and should even be touched explicitly! I cannot understand this logic.

At the end there is an exciting playground waiting for the children. The circular route is not necessarily barrier-free, i.e. Also not suitable for prams. But it is an absolute must for those who enjoy movement. Playground and enclosure are free of charge. (Original) Der eiszeitliche ist toll für Familien. (Translated by Google) Online guided tour through the aforementioned Lego special exhibition. The Zoom Meeting started punctually at 2 p.m. Many Kita children took part. The museum pedagogue did not seem to be aware of this, because she did not adapt her speeches to the age of the children, as she lectured too many technical terms (Inuit and about Greek mythology, etc.). Otherwise it was a welcome cultural alternative during the lockdown. Perhaps you will catch another speaker who takes better account of the age of the participants (Original) Online-Führung durch die genannte Lego Sonderausstellung. It was really full. No trace of corona regulations. It was very hard to keep distance. The museum is very interesting and nicely set out. The audio guide is great. The information posters are all bilingual English and German and there are a handful of English Audio options at the very end of the museum. I've only taken stars off as it was so incredibly full. Visited during the kids school holidays during the week.

Perfect for one day trip including visiting the museum and a short trail hiking. There is a good design for children to explore (need to buy a package with some tools), and it's also good for adults to know more about the evolution of homosapiens.

The special exhibit OTZIS was all in German which inconsiderate of the management of the museum. One more thing the managers should consider is the kids who don’t speak German. There were some English narrations however most of the stuff kid would be interested are only in German which is a pity

Top class museum, visited with two young kids. Gave a lot of background on the Neanderthals and how they lived with interactive parts. Also the surroundings of the museum with the playground were great fun A small point of feedback is that for non-English speakers are nor greatly accommodated (no guided tours or children activity).it didn't hinder our visit, but would be great if it was added

Nice anthropology museum with focus on neanderthals. Audio Tour with headphones is german only, there might be different languages available at the register. Best suited for children aged 8 or up, younger kids have little activity other than the great playground across the street.

The museum has lockers available for visitors to drop off their items for 0.5 euro, and it takes about 1.5 hours to explore all the exhibits. There is a cave outside the museum, but I do not recommend visiting it because it is artificial and not satisfying. Overall, the museum has some interesting features, but the cave(Fundstelle) may not be worth the visit.

  • 4/5 Holy S. 1 year ago on Google
The museum is small and you’ll see mostly wax cavemen and replicas of stuff. Their parking is small and chaotic. The people working in the cafe certainly are not very thrilled with their work and have zero charisma.. Overall, a nice attraction for little kids. Cheap tickets and a bunch of nice souvenirs.

A nice collection of recreations, and explanation of human evolution. I had hoped to see the real neanderthal remains, but no, just casts. The overlook site marks the location where the remains were found, before the area was fully blown up by miners, but you cannot walk into the cave where the discovery took place. The train was down, so bus required, and not explained well - the museum should do more too explain this to potential visitors that are unfamiliar with German buses.

Every time I go here, something new is happening, and the exhibition has always been interesting. Now they have lockers in the basement with power outlets inside for phone charging. Next to the lockers, they have kindly provided bottle warmers and a bottle heater for parents with babies. The archeological dig site (a sandbox with a partial skeleton to be discovered at the bottom) is the biggest hit with smaller children, and the scale of time and human evolution is discussed in ways that are engaging for older (probably school-age) children to adults. The current special exhibition about Greenland provides a relaxing space with bean bags and views of the scenery on projector. In the walk-through part, my daughter and I enjoyed learning about the different animals that live there, including feeling samples of their fur. Most museums don't charge entrance fees for children under 6, but Neanderthal Museum does. However, regular visits pay off for small children who want to run through quickly and direct attention differently each time. In this case, a Düsseldorf art::card pays for itself after the second visit, and one can be bought on site.
