I'm American, and yet I found the navel history of Germany fascinating. I could have spent the entire day simply reading the signage (in English) and watching the brief films inside the museum. But then I went outside. And WOW! Walking through a naval submarine and a destroyer was fantastic! I had been through a sub before, but this tour seemed to be much more thorough. There were a couple of other spots I simply did not have the time to evaluate! This was a well-done museum. Thoroughly enjoyable!

(Translated by Google) In itself a very nice museum that is definitely worth it, but the staff at the cash desk has not yet heard much of friendliness and respect. (Translated by Google) Always worth a visit. Anyone who comes with a baby should take the carrier. The only drawback: we were here for the second time and the lady at the front desk was just as rude and sloppy as the last time. Caution: nothing for handicapped people or wheelchair users (Original) Immer einen Besuch wert. (Translated by Google) The museum is beautiful, the ships are very interesting. The receptionist was very unfriendly, if not disrespectful. At first, she did not want to accept IHK trainee cards because it was not a student ID. As an apprentice, you don't have a student ID but an apprentice card! After some discussion we were charged the reduced price. The discussion was unnecessary and the way you talk to is very harsh and unfriendly. Unprofessional! This treatment at the cash register spoiled the mood at first. You can also stay friendly and don't have to be puffy right away. Shame, the museum was really nice.

Awesome tour. 14 euro to enter. Really nice layout inside covers the history of the German Naval command. Well written in both German and English. Outside is terrific with the tour of the U-boat, destroyers others. Lots of weapons around on display outside as well. A must see if your in the area, great for all ages. Near the coast with great walking trails. Cheers 👍💯

Indoor history museum. Since we visited in April 2019, four months ago, they have created an additional room show casing the last 150 years in Wilhelmshaven. The weather wasn’t so good for the ship exploring. Although we did spend over an hour going through them all slowly. Just a warning; but sometimes there are some really funky smells! Totally do-able with children too. The ships sometimes have steep ladders so it can be a challenge. We had our 1 year old in a baby carrier and it wasn’t too bad.

  • 5/5 Christine H. 3 years ago on Google

Very good and interesting museeum, it does not look big and the inside exhibition is rather small, but the ships take some time to visit and the information is very well laid out , unfortunately not everything is translated to English so you need to understand German to get full enjoyment, especially so on the Mölders (the biggest of the ships)where there are no information in English, the other boats as well as the exhibition inside are almost completely translated, the boattour around the harbour was very interesting and well worth the extra 6 euro, but is only available in German , Parking around the museeum is about 6 euro, but in the approach before the big apartment buildings there are some free parkings with a 15 min walk

A piece of German History. The museum is build up in two parts: 1/ Indoor, concentrating on the development of the German navy 2/ Outdoor with the visit of a submarine, a Fregate, and a minesweeper. Interesting for young and old. Take a few minutes in the submarine... fascinating and scary at the same time. My respect to all service -men and -women.

Great place for some knowledge and some fun with the kids. I recommend you do not bring kids younger than like 5 in the boats. Very dangerous.

Great museum with a lot of information about Germany's Marine history, there are several ships you can check on the inside and a huge submarine on display outside!

Easy to find and great fun wondering around looking at the historic information. I really loved the model ships in the museum building. Outside there are more modern ships, real ones this time. We spent a pleasant morning here, cafe was good as well.

Very interesting museum. Well set up with lots of neat exhibits but the best part was getting to go in a submarine, fast boat and the other ships. You really get a sense of how the sailors lived and worked and it was fascinating. The kids tried out chairs around nav consoles, admired the sleeping bunks and just how cramped the areas where to move around. There is a Cafe on site where you can get hot/cold drinks and food.

Great Museum! Very interesting and nicely displayed information. They've adapted well to the covid regulations needed. Sadly this means all the interactive things were not available but that is understandable given the situation. I found the information on the day to day things the most interesting, gives insight on what it was like for people in the past. Also the round tour of the ship at the dock was also fascinating! Definitely worth to check out! 👍

Really interesting to see how it was in the past and how everything in the Marine evolve, see all the different types of warships and all the history behind them. The most impressive thing is that you can go inside a submarine and other warships, that's really impressive, if you are in the area is really good and worth it.

Excellent informative museum explaining the history of the German Navy. Indoor exposition relatively small, however, well presented. Exposition outside of naval ships and submarines well situated near the historic bridge so that also nice pics can be taken.

Absolutely brilliant museum if you are into military history. First time I've ever been able to walk around a missile destroyer, mine sweeper and patrol sub. Only when you are onboard do you realise how cramped these vessels are. Claustrophobic is an understatement. The museum is well laid out and the staff are very helpful Unfortunately I picked a day that was in heavy rain. All the same a fantastic experience

If you're into this sort of thing, it's very interesting and a cool experience to walk on and through the submarine and ships. It also has a regular museum part covering the history of the German navy.

A great experience for warship lovers. Enigma can also be seen... . Currently the entrance price is 14 Euros. I also recommend it with a subsequent walk along the coastal promenade.

Really interesting and enjoyable tour. Amazing for families and kids.

The ships alone are worth the trip! Museum is more traditional, focus on timeline, and lots of text. Much audio didnt work. I still havent found a museum that tells the story of the great sea battles in ww1 and 2. And this also failed to do so. But its easy to forgive with such mechanical splendor

Fun to clamber on the ships there but I was sorry the destroyer and U boat we're undergoing restoration

  • 5/5 Philip S. 3 months ago on Google New
The information in the displays was thorough and with an excellent English translation. The English guide book is excellent. The only problem wasthesnow and cold weather, which reduced access to the ships, but then that's winter in northern Germany.
