Visited here on Wednesday and surprisingly discovered that it’s free for Wednesday night. But the musical instruments part will be closed at night, I didn’t check the time so I missed it >< Before we talk about the museum ——— you need to know that this museum has a FANTASTIC shop. If you’re a tourist like me, you can find everything you need here —— they have a lot of interesting toys, stationeries, cards and souvenir. Another fantastic thing is they also sell vintage postcards! I want to send my big thank you to the museum shop lady! She’s super friendly and professional, I didn’t get a chance to ask her her name, or I would like to write a thank you letter to the museum for their amazing staff:) I spent a decade there to go through all these interesting cards. She replied all my questions and even shared some fun fact about German culture with me! I kind of feel I’m also in an exhibition of the museum haha. Highly recommend to visit the shop! For the museum itself —— It’s 10 mins walk from the main train station, super convenient! There’re a lot of food near by. All staffs are super friendly. Toilets are clean, the cafe is adorable. The museum has a lot of interesting thing! My favorite part will be the memorial shield… the design of Nuremberg’s memorial shield is so different from other parts of Europe. The museum building is also super cool, I took tons of photos on my Instagram.

I had very low expectations when I entered the museum, thinking it might be just boring and dull. But I was happy to admit I was wrong and was positively surprised. The museum exhibits so many great items and you don’t even need to try construct a narrative in order to enjoy them. Instead you will be deeply moved by the beauty of the ancient sculptures, classic and modern paintings, and all the historical artefacts, as if they were objects with lives and they’re still alive, telling you stories of their lives. The museum cafe was very nice. Clean and tidy and the staff very nice and professional. I had a cup of tea and it was very nice. As an added bonus, they even have edurom WiFi in the museum. Things couldn’t be better.

The Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg is a remarkable museum that offers a comprehensive exploration of German history, culture, and art. Its vast collection spans millennia, encompassing artifacts from prehistoric times to the present day. From industrial innovations to artistic masterpieces, the museum provides a captivating journey through Germany's rich heritage. Given its extensive size, you should allocate at least two hours, or more, to fully appreciate the museum's treasures.

If you're visiting the city, you should definitely stop here as it is a well curated museum with lots of history and lots of things to see. Many of the recreated and/or historical artifacts are remarkably well preserved or presented!

This is a magnificent place to slowly enjoy every single piece of historical items inside the museum. It is segregated into several sections, so you're likely to know where to go after each. I guessed I was so immersed that I might have taken more than 2 hours admiring the various "story". Take a quick rest at the garden and continue again. Everything was really an eye opener for an Asian like me and it takes me back to imagine how medieval life was. I like the pharmacy representation of the unicorn & also the "modern" instruments back then for medical procedures. Really worth the visit.

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately the instrument and toy museum was closed, well the virus and the summer. Quite understandable. Brilliant the churches / monasteries. Only the project is called Germanenmuseum. Unfortunately nothing from Teutons. There is no time, yes, on a few display boards, otherwise the focus is on Christian Germania. Misnomer? Somehow. Still very worth seeing. Fehlbenennung? Irgendwie schon. Dennoch sehr sehenswert.

The presentation of the art and history of Nuremburg is beautiful. I'm disappointed I didn't come here sooner. Recommend watching Rick Steve's video on this museum and other videos to get acquainted first to make sense of it. My favorite is the folk art area, as it has great home decors! So underrated!

A huge museum full of all things German. I spent hours wandering round the whole collection and my only regret was not getting an audio guide. I did have fun finding the items highlighted on the map tho.

Personal sehr freundlich.

(Translated by Google) In an hour, you just can't get around. A very nice and pleasant museum. There is a free luggage room, cafeteria. After 17:30 the entrance is paid. And so 8 €, for Nuremberg pass 2 €. There are interesting exhibits of weapons, and Roman-era things. It is worth going once to get a deeper understanding of the history of Germany. I recommend. 2 €. Germanisches National Museum is one of the best historical museums in Germany. It represented thousands of artifacts telling you story of German lands since Ancient times till XIX century. Collection of medieval art, arms and armor is splendid. This museum is "must see" place in Nuremberg. Visitors are allowed to take non-commercial photos without flash light and tripod.

This museum is so huge that almost lost in this labyrinth. It took me at least 3 hours to quickly glimpse through the whole exhibits. Really regretted not going a little earlier before it close. Just the building itself is magnificent. Do not miss out this one. IMPORTANT NOTE: there is another section of this museum about Toys in another building included in the ticket.

Very beautiful place with a mixture of ancient, contemporary and prehistoric arts and handicrafts. You will not get bored visiting the museum halls enriched with vast knowledge in the field of arts. The regular visitor fee is 8 euros and is to be paid at the front desk. No bags are allowed inside and if you have any then it has to be kept in a separate locker room. The staff was friendly and informative. This is a highly recommended place to visit in my opinion.

4 hours and were not enough to see everything in this amazing place. Very well organised, staff were very helpful with the only negative being that many explanatory notes were only in German, nothing Google Translate can't handle. Definitely worth visiting again.

A huge museum of Deutsch finds, art and antiquities. They have many many things to see and be prepared to lose at least 1 hour here. A mandatory passage in Nuremberg. I liked the little rooms about medicine and alchemy but also the Medieval weapons&armors room was interesting.

Can't give a real Review. The kind of is not my favorite. But as a Museum for History and viewing collected items from Germans it's great. You can spent dozens of hours there. A painting with the Germania is show on a unrepresentative place on a downstairs end instead at the origin Frankfurt Paulskirche place. I enjoyed a beer an Nürnberger sausages at the museeums restaurant.

Expansive, educational, entertaining- definitely worth the visit. There is something for everyone, whether you are new to Nürnberg, just visiting and want to devote a day indoors, or have been in Deutschland your whole life! Spend as little or as much time as you want, but be warned- there is a lot to see and learn!

Nice museum You can leave your stuff in the locker room it's free. You have historical pieces and artifacs from paleolitical and neolitical till 20 century. I reccomend, also inside the museum is the oldest globus in the world. The ticket is 10 euros per person. The museum is in the old center of town.

Like any other national museums, it is endless. You simply need 1 whole day to see all the things, and if you want to read about each one you need several days. It has the first earth globe build. Which doesn't include America as it was not discovered at that time. Pretty remarkable if you think about it.

It has a lot of interesting pieces to see and most of the exhibits are in both German and English. It was quite difficult to find your way round the museum as there wasn't a straight forward route to follow and rooms and exhibits were all over the place. It is worth going just to see the oldest globe though.

One of the best museums in Germany, one can spend the whole day from opening to closing time there and still not see everything. Huge collection ranging from archeology to XXth century art. Many unique items and good guided tours make this museum an absolute must see. The applied arts section offers a very different style of items to the rest of the museum, including a full samurai armour.

Absolut Sehenswertes Museum.

(Translated by Google) From prehistoric times to modern times, pretty much everything is included. It is strongly recommended to use the museum map as a guide, otherwise you might run around in circles or miss one or the other exhibition. It's also nice that you can have a coffee in the basement in between. For one or the other exhibit, I would have expected more detailed information, but overall very informative. Easily accessible on foot, by subway or by car.

(Translated by Google) We got the impression that the museum rests on the fact that it is the largest. The exhibits are boringly exhibited, very dry at the beginning of Germanic history. We lacked multimedia museum culture! Other museums try harder. The time in Nuremberg can be used better.

The most interesting museum in Nuremberg, for me. And the biggest. You can easily spend a half a day here, even more! There are a lot of things to see:weapons from Stone Age or from Middle Ages, paintings, including some signed by Albrecht Durrer,A lot of marvelous old watches, sundials, compasses, old surgical instruments, religious objects, old furniture and many more.

A great place with an impressive collection. I thought I could only spend two hours here. I absorbed art in this beautiful place for several hours with delight. It was a really beautiful experience. The museum building itself and its incorporation into medieval architecture are also impressive. Nice and professional English speaking service.

I'd like to congratulate this museum for having an interesting descriptive text for most items and with English translation. It s one of those museums where you spend quite a while reading the items descriptions because they are so interesting! Highlight: having worlds oldest surviving World Globe from 1492

Amazing collection, definitely need to go there at least one more time. Besides the great collection, the monastery that was kind of "merged" with the museum is a great differentiation as you can also walk through some halls, corridors from the old monastery which has a beautiful architectural design

For most of my visit I was confused about how to get around, it's by far the most difficult to navigate museum I've ever visited. Upon asking the staff why closed areas aren't marked as being closed I got the response that they're probably re-opening them in a month and a half anyway, so they couldn't be bothered. In addition, there appears to be no effort whatsoever in presenting the exhibits in a modern and Innovative fashion.

I love this museum! It has a lovely footprint and you can spend a lovely day. The cafe is nice as well. All the staff is friendly and helpful.

You'll need at least 2 days to cover in-depth...there are plenty of English transcriptions, if you get the audio guide (3€) it gives further explanations but not really required. My favourite was the treasure trove of musical instuments! Museum staff were friendly and helpful.

This museum is huge. Use your plan to find the way and to choose what you really want to see, otherwise you might get lost in the middle ages. Lots of great pieces on display. Maybe the disadvantage of this museum is, that it is just to big and has a bit of chaotic set up. My favorite part of the museum was the area with 20th century art that has a good set up and collection.

  • 5/5 Deb S. 1 year ago on Google
Loved it! So much to see but just enough in every subject/time period to keep it interesting. Some exhibits were closed but still plenty to fill our afternoon. Very creative how the museum wraps around and through the church and old abbey structures. The old world globes were the highlight for us! A must visit when in Nuremberg!

As a History A-Level Student I am a bit picky with museums but I loved the entire museum . They had an exhibition to about everything that I enjoy about history. Some exhibitions were sadly closed ( due to a staff shortage I believe) but it was so worth it. And if you're a student, you pay a smaller entry fee sooooo

My first to visit, and not enough time! Very rich and detailed facts about German history all the way from bc times going forward. I highly recommend, but definitely go on a Wednesday when it opens - you will spend the entire day getting a refresher. A very nice gentleman, Wirl, who has worked here for 40+ years has a lot of knowledge - find him and you will feel energized and refreshed to be a history nut!

So much to see! I love the museum! Rich history, and a lot of great art pieces! They even allow you to use the ticke for the entire day. You can go out if you feel need to have lunch then come back again. How lovely!

Quite loved it! Was much bigger than I had expected. Even four hours was barely enough. Though tbf, my inclination of trying to read every plaque didn't help. Was €5 for students I actually especially liked the 20th century section.

There is no chronological order and there are flaws in the flow. There are no directions and it's a pretty big place. It is quite difficult to navigate. Entrance is 8 euro, it's worth it for such a big place but getting inside gets harder with time.

One of the best museums I've been to yet. Budget at least a full day to get through *most* of it. This is an easy walk from the train station. There are lockers for €1 deposit on site. Also the Cafe here is really good and the gift shop has some great stuff.

Museum is massive. It took us over 4 hours to really absorb everything. The staff was great. Suggest the headphones that explain some items in greater detail than the plaques. Had a lovely lunch in the basement restaurant and a much needed glass of wine. Downside...the lighting could be improved in some areas..hard to read. Musical instrument room was amazing albeit too warm.

Everything was in German and English and it has a few rotating exhibitions as well as a number of set exhibitions. The museum itself was a monastery at one point and has since been added onto until it's the museum you can find today. Beautiful atmosphere and items. Many interesting facts and pieces can be found here!

A truly amazing museum for lovers of history and well worth spending time here. This museum contains the oldest preserved globe, as well as one of the four Golden Hats, and many other treasures besides. The exhibits go from the Stone Age, through the Bronze Age, Roman era, Wandering of the Peoples, the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Reformation, and into the early Modern Era. It is a very impressive place indeed.
